"Looking to VENT" with J.Crew

This is the weekly "Looking to VENT with J.Crew" post, a place to share our not-so-stellar experiences with J.Crew.

If you have recently experienced a frustrating situation with J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including poor experiences with purchases & orders, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. This is my vent/PSA for the day. Dream sweaters are back. CFS says, "The only problem with this piece is deciding which color to get." Oh, CFS, "if you only knew..."

If you're not familiar with them I'm sure you could search the JCA and read a lot of feedback from the past 5 years, but I'm going to save you the effort - they are CRAP. The yarn is absolute garbage. It used to be nice at one point but since 2007 these sweaters become pilly, raggedy messes after one wear. They often look terrible just hanging on the rack in a B&M!

I know every year they come out with some nice colors, and yes, that caramel Dream cardigan looks cute in the item pic but they will NOT hold up. I'm 99% certain that they have not changed the blend and that it is no better than previous years. Every year I read comments from JCAs that are regretting their Dream sweater purchase. I'm just trying to save you some money.

    1. I bought a dream sweater in 2009 n a beautiful deep green ("golden cyprus" maybe?). True to the above warning, it was completely unwearable after less than 5 wears. I put it in a paper bag and mailed it back to J. Crew with a note expressing my deep disappointment in the quality of the product. They sent me back a gift card for the purchase price of the sweater.

    2. Dream sweaters are indeed awful. I wish they would discontinue them.

    3. The only year they were good IMO was the first year they came out; from there it has been downhill. I don't buy wool sweaters from them anymore.

    4. Hi Genny - I think you're right on that. I have a navy dream hoodie from 2006 that still looks nice. I don't know if the proportions of wool/nylon/cashmere in the dream blend changed, or if it's because their cashmere's not great but this particular blend cannot hold up to basic wear.

    5. Hi silver lining-Yes, I think that year of 2006 sounds about right as that is when I lived in MN and shopped Mall of America. I remember the salesclerk, who knew me by name, telling me all about the NEW Dream sweater fabric that was fabulous!

  3. I loved the lightweight merino v-neck sweaters 3 or 4 months ago. Now they're a pilly mess. That's too short of a life for a sweater in my closet.

  4. Just got the crepe cap-sleeve dress (purchased online) - it arrived on a pants hanger. I purchased the origami bow dress and the silk taffeta Lexa dress earlier this summer and both of them came on pants hangers as well. Anyone else?

    1. Me either. I had to go into the store to get one. Ridiculous.

  6. Ditto on the dream sweaters. I can't believe they are still selling them. I bought one two years ago and while wearing it for the 1st time, the hem fell out out! It was a shapeless mess with pills. I purged all dream sweaters and will never buy one again.
