"Looking to VENT" with J.Crew

This is the weekly "Looking to VENT with J.Crew" post, a place to share our not-so-stellar experiences with J.Crew.

If you have recently experienced a frustrating situation with J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including poor experiences with purchases & orders, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. The fact that J.Crew have been promising to add shipping to Australia for 6 years and still hasn't.

International Shipping is available to a lot of other countries and Australia has no import tax for personal shipped items, so I don't see the problem.

I'll just keep giving Anthropologie my money in the meantime...

  2. I know this has been said a thousand times before but I wish their sizes had some consistency to them. I bought a Minnie in my usual size 0 and after only two wears it has stretched out at the waist band and is more slouchy, (read droopy diaper bottom) than I'd like. Maybe it's the fabric or cut? I don't know. I just know that I'm not a size 00, but it looks like I'll have to buy another in that size.

  3. Alex- my family in Australia uses my PO Box over here as there personal shopping service :). J.Crew would make a fortune out of Aus I know that!

  4. I know--the sizing is all over the place anymore. I used to order online with confidence but not anymore. I don't know what happened but that used to be something I could count on J.Crew for--consistent sizing. No longer:(

  5. If anyone wants the Wynter Sequin Stripe sweater in the black and pink- it is gone in a size small and medium both in store and online! Bummed out!

  6. I also posted this on the thread about the current 25% off promo, but customer service wouldn't honor the promo on a coat that I bought on Monday, even though they honored it for others.

  7. It's not just J.Crew but I am sick of cropped pants for fall/winter. They are not flattering (Tim Gunn backs me up on this) and I think they look silly with tights or socks and heels. the only way to wear them outside in cold weather is tucked into boots and why not have regular-length pants so that you can wear them in or out if you choose?

Some of the current colors and patterns are cute but I'm not buying winter capris. I wish they would just go away already and bring back grown-up pants.

    Rant over!

  8. I agree about the inconsistent sizing. Now we have to specifically ask for each item's measurements?

I'm still bummed that petites aren't offered in-store. I remember emailing JCrew about this a few years ago and their response was that I could always contact them about measurements and request the store manager to carry petites.

I'm fine with making a request to the store manager, but requesting measurements is still not the same as trying something on...

  9. I have to echo the concerns about inconsistent sizing. As I live in Canada, and nowhere near Toronto, the sizing issue prevents me from purchasing a lot of items like pants and dresses that need to fit just right ( I always size up in tops anyways so those are less of an issue for me, but I imagine a big one for many). If they offered free returns (from Canada), that would help too.

  10. Yes! I have to echo inconsistent sizing as well. I was so excited to receive my order this week as I'd been waiting and lusting after the Selvedge Chambray shirt for months. I am a 6 in J Crew and ordered the small . . .it is huge, as in falling off huge. Seams are halfway down my arms. Flattering as it might be to consider myself an xxs, there is no way I am that size. At least the Tartan boy shirt is a great fit. Should post that on the love side.

  11. I agree about cropped pants in the winter. I feel like JCrew is in a rut over Cafe Capris. I love them, they fit me perfectly, but I don't wear cropped pants with pumps in the winter.

Also, they need to get away from styling EVERYTHING with pumps. I want jeans, and when I wear jeans I am in mommy mode, not work, not cocktails, not wearing Monas. (oh, and please don't default to ballets or slippers with no socks ;> )

  12. Agree with Pathos, that jeans + pumps look = Daisy Mae.

  13. I used to buy something several times a month but haven't purchased anything since July. I don't know if it's me and I am incredibly rough on my clothes but I mostly bought sweaters and almost all of them end up with a hole in a weird spot within a few wears.

  14. Man guys get NO respect at this store! They shoved the guys clothes in a corner (Oak Brook, IL) and said they "reduced" their floorspace a few years ago. Back to Banana Republic I guess...

  15. Nooooooooo! Moths seem to have invaded my sweater drawer and ate my favorite Tartine sweater. I've found 5 different things with moth holes in the past week. Time to do a major wash/vacuum/steam of the wool items in my wardrobe.
