20% Off & Free Shipping on Jewelry!

"Thanks!" to many of you, including GigiOfCa (in this post), who let us know about J.Crew's most recent promotion.

J.Crew is offering 20% off *and* free shipping on Women's Jewelry (click here to shop online). This offer expires 7/5/10. The fine print of this promotion includes:
*Prices as marked. Offer excludes FENTON/FALLON™ and Miriam Haskell®. Offer cannot be redeemed for cash or applied to previous purchases. Offer valid on jcrew.com only through Monday, July 5, 2010, 11:59pm ET on Internet orders shipped via regular shipping (4 to 7 business days). Free shipping applies only to online orders of women's jewelry. Free ground shipping on women's jewelry is applied automatically at checkout. Offer not valid on phone orders.
Love, love, love that they are offering free shipping too. Great bonus! Also, "thanks!" to Chrissy (in this post), who let us know that her local brick & mortar store is offering 20% off jewelry too. This probably means that other B&M stores are carrying the promotion as well. {yey!}

Will you be taking advantage of this promotion? Are there any pieces you are interested in? If so, please share! :)

  2. The price on the necklace I was contemplating actually went up by $18 today and still costs more with the 20% off than it did yesterday without it...looks as if I won't be getting it after all.

  3. FFM: That is terrible (on J.Crew's part)! To raise the price of an item "on promotion" more than it was at regular price... who does that?!? (I guess, J.Crew.) :(

    ReplyDelete
  4. That is devil! To raise the price and then discount... I've seen other stores doing that. Like in Target, they'll put an on sale tag covering the original price but they are all the same price.

The jewelry are still pretty expensive. I'd buy more if that was extra 20% off... but I ordered the crystal patch earrings $54 after tax :'(! I guess I can return them if price drops again. Got sucked in by that video :P

  5. That is quite awful that they would do that! I thought it sounded fishy that they would offer free shipping without any catch like they usually do by having a minimum $150 purchase.

  6. Alexis and piccione: It's the Layered Link Necklace . It had been $50 for the past couple of weeks and now that this promo is in effect it went up to $68 (which is 20% off of $85). Of course I wouldn't have known if I hadn't been watching it all this time...guess that's what they're counting on.

  7. The fine print should include: sale price jewelry excluded from the free shipping. I tried a mock order, including the milano crystal bracelet, which is on FS, and did not get the free shipping.

  8. I wonder if you place your order via phone, and then add it in? I just did that last week with the tee promo.

    ReplyDelete
  9. FFM - I wonder if it is legal for them to do that. It seems unethical at best. 20% off a price we jacked up just for the sale? That's not right.

  10. Ugh, J. Crew, stop being evil!

I wish it would apply to Fenton/Fallon and Miriam Haskell. I'm realllllllly crushing on the giant pearl ring ($250) and the jaws earrings ($88) and probably would have bit with 20% off on at least one. But I doubt they'll ever go on sale, which won't be a bad thank for my bank account....

  11. Wow, thats so wrong! I bought the prism necklace on Wednesday for $58. Today it is on "sale" for $78.

    ReplyDelete
  12. FFM: I purchased that necklace a few weeks back during one of the 20% off promos, when it was still $50. How terrible of J.Crew to arbitrarily raise the price like that! It had been on sale for $50 for at least a month before they raised it up. Shady business..

    ReplyDelete
  13. I noticed that too about the prism necklace-it's been in my shopping cart, and now I see the price is raised.

It is also ticking me off that in store it's 20%, but online we pay the "full" sale price. why punish us online shopper?

  14. This is totally OT, but I know there are a lot of NYC shoppers on here, and this serves as a reminder to inspect, segregate and wash new clothes prior to wearing!

  15. wow, the Crystal Patch earrings I ordered this morning are all gone. @@ Looks like I'm not the only person who got sucked in by that video. Commericals and pretty models are eeevil~~~ $54 so expensive T___T

  16. Texas has the "Texas Deceptive Trade Practies Act" which JCrew might be in violation of by raising the price in order to promote a discount on the current jewelry promotion.

The act reads "Making false or misleading statements of fact concerning the reasons for, existence of, or amount of price reductions"

    ReplyDelete
  17. I am definitely not defending JCrew here, but I don't think they are in violation of the law. I think the necklaces were on arbitrary promotion before today, but since they decided to offer 20% all jewelry, they just put the price up back to normal. Again, I am totally not defending them (I'm irritated a bracelet I was watching was affected too) but I don't think this is false advertising or bait-and-switch

  18. I have a random question, I hope its ok to post here. I just bought a suit from Jcrew. Wore it for a few hours and the pant hem has fallen. I didnt step on it or do anything else to disturb it. The thread is just hanging out. This suit cost 350 which is expensive for my budget-Id expect better durability. Anyone have any experience with this? Im relucant to try to get it replaced if their qualitly is subpar.

  19. I have a feeling the crystal patch earrings will pop back as people return them. I received a pair with one earring broken--the bottom disconnected from the top post part. Even if they hadn't been broken I would have returned them because they are SO heavy, I'd have to put tape behind my ears to hold them up.

    ReplyDelete
  20. w.o.

    So sorry about your suit.

I do feel JCrew quality has declined signifcantly over the past few years.

If the suit fits and is comfortable and you really like it I would take it to the store and ask that they have it repaired free of charge by the tailor that each store has hired. Hopefully you have a store nearby.

If no,t contact CS and say you are having it repaired yourself and would JCrew to reimburse you if you sent in the repair receipt.

Good luck. Let me know what happens.

  21. Hello all, I am new to JCrew as of a couple months. Its prices are WAY over my budget (everything I buy is debt!), but once I started looking at JCrew, many other stores seem matronly or worse. I had to comment about this jewelry sale. Being new to JCrew, I am always AMAZED at the prices they ask for what equates to cheap costume jewelry! That being said, I can usually resist most and get my fix at Kohls! But, I have been watching a certain bracelet for a couple weeks, and found it in the store but didn't buy it because it seemed a tad too large (size, not look). I know this bracelet was 39.99 in stores and online. Then this jewelry "sale" came, and now it's 60.00 AFTER sale. What a joke and a rip-off. Makes me question their ethics too. Now, I have to get back to resisting the scalloped zipper cardigan some more. UHHHHHH. I swear it will NEVER go on sale.

  22. Strange, I just placed an order with items that had previously said "final sale", and none of the items said "final sale". So I am assuming they are not. I even took a screen grab of the image just in case. It has to say it on the invoice for them to hold you to it, right? As I shopped (haven't slept yet tonight), the status of "final sale" on the item even kept changing. WEIRD.

    ReplyDelete
  23. AMy-
Let us know when you receive the items or invoice via email if it says final sale.

Also, what you noticed with the jewelery price going UP because of a sale is a common practice of JCrew. I noticed this all year when they ran other promos on tees, knits, etc.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Amy: I've ordered things during a stated "Final Sale" ... but as long as it didn't say it on the invoice/receipt that came with the items, I never had any problem or questions when returning to the store. HTH

    ReplyDelete
  25. Suzy - I'm in Texas too and I don't think I got this email. I wonder if that's why - because this practice is illegal in Texas?

But even though I did not get the email, they are still offering the "sale" on their website, where they DO make false or misleading statements of fact concerning the amount of price reductions (which are in fact price increases).

I don't like J Crew treating customers like chumps, even though of course we can decide for ourselves whether or not we think $68 is a fair price for a piece of jewelery.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Re: Final Sale or Not Final Sale, sometimes items come with a sticker on the plastic package that says, "Final Sale Items Cannot Be Returned". Are they still doing this, anyone get one of these stickers lately?

I'm curious, do those of you who return to the B&M keep the online order items in the shipping plastic when you return them? I suppose if it didn't say FS on the receipt but did on the plastic, you could just take it out of the plastic to return.

    ReplyDelete
  27. xoxo - I order online and return to the B&M all the time and rarely return the plastic bags.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I'm still burning on this promotion, anyone have Mickey's email addy? TIA.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Girlification of Jules, I have a "thank you from J.Crew" card that lists Mickey's email as

    Millard.Drexler@jcrew.com

I'm in a curious mood today. Has anyone actually contacted CS or their personal shopper regarding the price change for items that were cheaper before the promo? Might be a glitch that the price was updated incorrectly as part of the jewelery sale, the discount 20% from the original price may be overriding the previous, lower price. Just saying it could be a mistake, we all know how wonderful and consistent the J.Crew website is...

  30. Has anyone tried the freshwater Pearl necklaces, bracelet from JC?

My anniversary is coming up and I would like some of the finer jewelry and can't decide between the 2-strand and the 4 strand pearl necklaces. I would like something that is more versatile and considering I will be 30 this year do you think the 4-strands it will make me look more older?

I would appreciate some feedback on these. Thanks so much!

    ReplyDelete
  31. xoxo, I received a couple of "final sale" jackies earlier this week and the plastic bags did have the final sale stickers.

jcrewphd, I wouldn't buy JC pearls. For the prices they charge, you can get much nicer quality pearl necklaces
    elsewhere.

    ReplyDelete
  32. xoxo, I used to retain the plastic bags for returning items to the b&m. B&M said they don't need the plastic bags for returns. I also shipped items back to the warehouse recently w/o plastic bags and they processed the returns.

    ReplyDelete
  33. xoxo - I don't think it matters what the plastic bags say. If there is an asterisk next to the item on your receipt and it says final sale items can't be returned, the SA will see that when they open your order on the computer.

    ReplyDelete
  34. jcrewphd - I have purchased both necklaces to which you refer. Do not do it. They are way overpriced for the quality. The pearls match well enough, but the luster is terrible. To be honest, if you want decent pearls, try Ebay. You can get one of the chinese pearl suppliers to make an exact replica of either of those necklaces, with equal or nicer pearls, for much less money. I have had a lot of luck with Jack at pearloutlet. He recreated the three strand pearl bracelet for me and a six strand bracelet I had seen elsewhere. You need to tell him exactly what you want though. Which level of quality, whether you want it knotted between each pearl, etc. I have purchased six pearl pieces from him over the last three years and have been pleased with all of them.

  35. 20% off crap is still paying 80% too much for crap. And free shipping on crap is a waste for a company who will be getting that crap returned to them...

    ReplyDelete
  36. jcrewphd - please do not waste your money on the jcrew pearls.

  37. My daughter purchased the Twirled meal and Crystal necklace today at the Domain store in Austin. It was marked down to $19.99 . It is still $39.60 online and was $49.50 originally. Weird.

    ReplyDelete
  38. JCrew jewelry is ridiculous IMO. I have found the quality to be awful. Two of the 4 necklaces I purchased from them (on clearance) broke. The materials are usually resin/plastic and plated metal, and they charge upwards of $100 for what is basically costume jewelry.

    ReplyDelete
  39. W.O., the hem on my silk streamers top came out after the first wearing. I emailed JC and they offered to reimburse me for the cost of repair. Of course I got busy and lost the receipt from the cleaners for the repair cost, so I never actually sent it in!

    ReplyDelete
  40. jessie b. & suzy spellman: Thank you for your recommendations. I will check them out. I've decided to spend my $$ wisely since I'm sure JC is charging way more than what those jewelries are actually worth. ;-)

  41. this is how (gasp!) Target deals with the mysterious floating price tag situation -- the little clause appears on almost every item on the web site.

"Prices, promotions, styles and availability may vary by store and online."

I checked the jewelry and guess what? Entries tell you when the metal is nickel-free. Hmm. And some of the stuff is quite appealing. Not bad prices for stuff that should, after all, be temporary...

    ReplyDelete
  42. Mommy Dearest, it wasn't a sale on all jewelry, but "select" jewelry, I believe. Karen, will do.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Have none of you ever purchased ANYTHING at any other retailer besides J. Crew? How about gasoline, milk, eggs? Retailers change prices on goods all the time. Amazon changes prices daily - up and down. There is nothing illegal, unethical, wrong, shameful, shady or evil about it. In this case, certain promotions that had been running ended and another one took their place. For some items the first promotion yielded better selling prices than the second one did. For other items, the second promotion yielded better prices.

There is no guarantee that merchandise will only go down in price. If you are interested in the item and you feel the price is fair, buy it. If the price is not fair, don't buy it. It's as simple as that.
