Seek & Find: Will you visit J.Crew this Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopping by a J.Crew store this weekend to take advantage of what's left (if anything) in the winter sale or to see some new Spring/ Resort arrivals in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

P.S. I noticed that many of you have already been reporting sale items (and in which stores) in other posts which by the way "thank you!" :) I really appreciate how helpful we are for each other!

  2. Nothing for me this week...or the next..or the next...I have spent far too much on Jcrew! Good luck to everyone looking for their treasures :D

  3. I have to go to JC tomorrow to pick up my ivory Maggie - I asked JC to shorten the sleeves (I bought Tall size). So if I see anything interesting at the store I will report.

  4. I may go to the after-hours event they are having on Sat. Anyone else going to their local b&m for it?

  5. I'm trying to find the cashmere capsleeve tee (the one with the rolled edges, not the new one) in black, size XL. It was in my final sale bag last week, and then it was gone! If anyone sees one at a store (or gets one in the mail they end up not liking) and feels like being a kind stranger, would you let me know? My email is gouiram (at) scc (dot) losrios (dot) edu.

  6. Everything is so boring right now. Come on, jcrew...get your act together already!

  7. Report from New Haven, CT:

No giraffe shorts, one cotton linen aubrey in navy (size 10), and tons in papaya, garden lace shift dresses in all the colors, henna tees, and short sleeve cardis.

I really want to buy the jubilee dot flip flops, sanur dress, printed embossed halter audrey dress, and canvas totes (when they go on sale, of course :)).

  8. I am looking for the giraffe shorts in a 6. Has anyone seen them?

  9. I will probably go this weekend to return my SO-not-celery-green Harper sweater, and sateen pencil skirt with a split side seam that I didn't even wear yet. Geez!

The other blog has a letter to M.Drexler about JC's declining quality that is interesting. Maybe a little too sarcastic to be taken seriously, but the points are completely true. They are using so much chiffon this year, which leads me to believe that it's a guarantee on their part that the pieces won't last more than a season. Notice a bunch of the descriptions say that the chiffon will fray over time for a 'vintage' look - however, most of this stuff is already frayed in the store. Is it really that hard/expensive to make things of better quality?

  10. I am looking for the Penelope Spectator Peep Toes in Graphite, size 10. I know it's a long shot, but if anyone sees them in their B&M, or gets them at a TJ Maxx, please let me know. THANKS!!!

  11. I agree the letter is to sarcastic, and I doubt she will get a reply back, it is too bad because the points she made are true.

Old Navy has some nice styles this season, Gigi Gone Shopping blog has shown a few, and I have seen some IRL, and there is very little difference in the quality, but a big difference in the price!

  14. What a poorly written letter on the other blog. (I am an English teacher.)

I agree that JCrew's quality is going down....but...wow...that letter???

    ReplyDelete
  15. I agree with the letter...as to JCrew's serious decline in quality. I used to spend between $1,200--1,500 a month there. Now I spend $300 if that. This month nothing so far. The choices are either poor quality or boring. Such a shame. I am glad my love affair lasted for 7 years. Maybe it's the 7 year itch. I am off to greener pastures...will still check JCrew out every now and then but my big purchasing days are over.

I cannot believe the defective and already worn garments that JCrew sells to customers. I respect myself more than that to continue to spend my hard earned money with them. I mean, I have had my own share of "horror stories.

  17. I'm headed to my B&M tomorrow to return a black double cloth tulip coat (unless anyone here is interested in buying it? size 0, $115 shipped) and maybe try on some of the new spring items. I still have all my xmas gift cards to use, but I'm so disappointed in Jcrew lately so that kind of sucks the fun out of gift cards.

Does anyone know if the sale spring items in the stores are considered final sale? I ordered the lattice Camilla dress yesterday and was suprised to see on my order confirmation that the dress is final sale. I mean, I know it's listed as final sale on the website, but I assumed that only applied to the old winter stuff and not the brand new stuff. Anyway, I sent an email to CS and all I got was one of the pre-written cut and paste responses. Blah!

So......on that note, any ideas when final sale on the website will be over? Or is it, gulp, here to stay?

    ReplyDelete
  18. Amy: last week the items on sale were not final sales, at least not in NYC. On the other side, no additional % off. I guess that if they're going to add a % off this week they will be FS.
BTW, if anyone who visits a store in Manhattan today could report if they are applying a % off the sales it would be much appreciated (also please let me know if you see the pleated chiffon cardi in XS). Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  19. Yeah, going in to RETURN stuff! Maggie that's too narrow in the shoulders, ect. After seeing the spring stuff online already, I'm not even psyched to browse the spring roll out. For spring and summer, I mainly focus on dresses, mainly knit or linen/ cotton, and tees. I got the Sara dress in black which is a LOVE and the parlor knit in the red which I am in deep like with. I'd have more love for it if it was wearable without a cami underneath, but as I am large of chest, it would be vulgar. My other returns are things that I'm wicked glad that they weren't marked final since they'd never get worn if I had to keep them.

    ReplyDelete
  20. amy, if I had to guess, I'd say that this final sale may be permanent until the Christmas season. I think that the final sale stuff should really be priced to move, though. I'm sure we JCA's have talked about it before, but they really need two 'tiers' of sale stuff, the same season, non-FS stuff (hmmm, I guess those would be 'promo' items?), and the last season, price-slashed, FS stuff, although I think that catalog/.com only merchandise should never be final sale (especially given the declining quality issues).

    ReplyDelete
  21. Thanks Silver Lining - That was one of my points to CS; catalog/website only merch should not be FS because we've never seen it in person to try it on, determine if we like it, make sure the quality doesn't suck, etc. I think an item should be only listed as FS once it has reached it's FINAL price! Not this "list it as final sale two weeks after the item comes out and then continuously drop the price every week until it sells out" crap.

Ok, I'm done ranting for now.

  22. I'm off to Easton Town Center to return a Maggie that looks like a giant square box on me. I haven't been there for a while as it's about a 35 minute drive out of the way for me. I have no intention of buying anything unless I LOVE it and the price is REALLY right. I'll let you all know if I find anything of interest.

    ReplyDelete

  24. amy: I received a Spring item last week that was marked FS when in fact it was not, CS told me it was a mistake, call CS to see if you could return it.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Amy,

I have to agree with you on the loosely used term final sale. I ordered a bunch of tees, hoodies, and a $188 jacket from Lucky Jeans for the kids last week because they were all marked down to $9.99 and they were final sale.

I went back a week later to see if there was anything else marked down too and all of the items I bought were marked up at least by double and the hoodie was 4X what I paid.

I have no idea how that price increase can be justified for non-returnable final sale items.

  26. I stopped by my B&M at Pentagon City and yet again, was treated with indifference by the sales staff. There were literally only 6-7 customers in the store at the time. At least two SAs walked by me without greeting me or even so much as acknowledging my presence. I'm not asking them to grovel but a "hi, how are ya?" or "is there anything I can help you with?" would be nice. A little customer service goes a LONG way, especially in this economy.

Alexis, maybe you could post a thread about customer service at the B&Ms. I know there has been a lot of discussion about the online customer service. I've been to the JC in Friendship Heights and have had similar 'snooty' experiences. Could it be because I shop almost exclusively in the sale section? Who knows... I'm sure there are good SAs out there but the awful ones really sour the shopping experience. Maybe, just maybe, the morons in JC management will take notice. (big sigh) rant over...

    ReplyDelete
  27. Agree that the 'final sale' is confusing. I have bought winter final sale things and newer, spring final sale stuff online, and I'm happy to say that not a single thing has been marked 'final sale' on my actual invoice.

  28. silver_lining - how was the fit on the Harper Sweater? I liked the cut but was afraid to order because some of their cuts like that are enormous, while others are fairly TTS.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I stopped into the Copley Place store in Boston last night. Slim pickings, but I did spy a pair of giraffe shorts in size 0. I know several peeps were looking for them! That store's number is
    (617) 236-5950 if you wanna snag them! Enjoy. :)

    ReplyDelete
  30. HeidiG, here's my review of the Harper from earlier in the week:

Cashmere Harper sweater: beware ladies, this is tent-like! I ordered my usual S because the description says "Fitted", but I think what they mean by this is "Fitted in the shoulders ONLY". The rest of it ballooned out, but hit right at the hip so it wasn't gigantic, just very A-line. I don't think sizing down will help because then it will likely be too snug in the shoulders.

Also, the color "crisp celery" did not look anything like pictured on the website - it was much more yellow-based, almost a softer "key lime". Don't pick this if you're looking for a minty green, as you will be disappointed. There are lots of these sweaters left, after noticing the problematic fit, I'm not surprised.

    ReplyDelete
  31. B&M Rant,
I totally agree! I wonder if I get ignored sometimes because I KNOW what I'm looking for, already know my sizes, or because I go STRAIGHT to the sales section to scope it out first. It doesn't mean that I don't have the money... it's just that I'm going to find a deal first before I decide to throw my money away at full priced items. It bugs me that they in a way "profile" their shoppers but I guess I've gotten used to it.

And when you get to the register and they ask "oh did anyone help you with your purchase?" my usual answer is " no, i found it on my own.. but some lady opened a fitting room for me."

Yes, that's the usual extent to the help I get... someone opening a locked door which i have no key to.

In some instances, I've asked a few questions about what I'm looking for and when they see that I know the names of certain items the SA's are 1. either more inclined to help me or 2. they are embarrassed because they have no idea what i'm talking about and I know more about JCrew than they do.

    Anyone have similar experiences?

    ReplyDelete
  32. HeidiG,

Silverlining already posted yesterday the that sweater was HUGE around the body on her and A line shaped.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Well, I am heading to my B&M to return the Icon trench (size 2 if anyone is interested for like $280 shipped) which is sad because I love it, but just too similar to another trench I have.... so, I'm hoping the sale section will be replenished. The last time I visited there was no % off sale... which meant it wasn't final sale (yea ;) and made me think they were getting ready to put a bunch of good stuff in it! We'll see!

    ReplyDelete
  34. musthavejcrew: Darn! I'm looking for those too (but in a 7!) and I know I saw a pair at the TJM by my (like 2 weeks ago!) in a size way too big for me (guessing around a 9!) and I stood there with them on my feet for like 20 minutes because I really wanted them to magically work for me, but there was just no way!! Bummer! I knew I shoud have just bought them!! I keep checking back for them, but the lady in the shoe section bascially laughs at me!!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Soho (NYC) had no extra % off sale. Has anyone seen the Ruffle Henley tee in-store?

  36. I'm not going to J.Crew this weekend, but I am going to BR to try this tiered silk blouse in turquoise, one of my best colors.

    http://bananarepublic.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=16814&pid=629242&scid=629242002

and this shift dress in gray that my friend recommended for me.

    http://bananarepublic.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=42233&pid=619169

The dress doesn't look great in the front model shot online but my friend insists I try it as I just got a pair of Fluevog Audrey pumps in gray and she thinks they would go perfectly with this dress on my tall frame. We'll see.

I've been so disappointed with J.Crew's spring line so far, it's time to branch out a bit.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I had an awful experience with customer service. When I was rather new to JCrew, I started visiting the b&m and customer service was very nice. A couple weeks later I returned with my 2 small children. I received NO customer service, and it was clear I was not the customer they wanted to help that day. So sad. It turned me away from JCrew for a year. I still resent them for that experience.

I do love their fashion, I'm skeptical on their quality and highly skeptical on their pricing. It's their sales that bring me back.

    ReplyDelete
  38. To Ashley and anyone else talking about bad customer service: Yeah, the SA's may only open a fitting room for you, but keep in mind that they inevitably have to clean up the giant pile of clothes you left on the floor, all of which are turned inside out and unbuttoned.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Has anyone noticed whether or not TJ Maxx is restocking? I am in the Boston 128 area, I've been to the Waltham, Bedford and Woburn stores a few times in the last week. Nothing has been added. There are only a few espadrilles, wellies, sandals and sneakers left. Wonder if this was a one time purchase for TJ Maxx or if it will be ongoing.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Anony@9:03

Seriously, are you trying to start problems???

I was raised with manners and I ALWAYS and I stress Always hang my clothes back up on the hangers correctly and I have even put them back out on the floor for the SA.

Also, for others...I have a child and have always received excellent customer service from all 3 MN JCrews I go too. My daughter is very well behaved (and I have been told so by the SA's) They used to give her little treats when we went in...at least once a week. Now she is in school but when she was 3 and 4 we had great experiences.

  42. I was in the Towson, MD store yesterday and picked up a spaghetti strap eyelet beach dress that I had forgot I wanted marked down to 29.99. They had plenty of garden lace dresses on sale. Not a lot of anything else it seemed. Looking forward to seeing their new items. I tried on the meringue sleeve top, they had a ton of those, but it wasn't quite as blousy in the fit as I hoped. The light colors were lined though for a change. They also had a lot of the slub cotton crossover tees.

    ReplyDelete
  43. anon, 9:03

yes and that's their job and that's why they get paid.

    ReplyDelete
  44. tld51371,

are the meringue sleeve tops on sale???

    ReplyDelete
  45. I actually prefer SAs in a store not asking me "how are you?", "do you find everything OK?" so I can hang around freely. I appreciate what they do in a store. Just keep a welcoming spirit in a store is enough for me.

    ReplyDelete
  46. This comment has been removed by the author.

    ReplyDelete
  47. The meringue sleeve tops weren't on sale but judging from the amount they had in the store, I wouldn't be surprised if they went on sale as soon as the new items roll in. Lately I've noticed that some items have gone on sale within a couple of weeks, like the garden lace dress, which has only been out since the end of January or so.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Did everyone just get the up to 30%off on select pants e-mail from J Crew?

    ReplyDelete
  49. anon 9:20am,

I see what you're saying, it *is* their job to make sure the store looks presentable, and sometimes it seems like there's always that one person who is just obsessively folding/refolding everything in the store no matter what :), but it does seem kind of crappy to leave things inside out and rumpled and expect someone else to clean up your mess... could at least try to put it in a neat pile...

  50. Have any Boston JCA's been to the new Madewell on Newbury? Anon @ 9.07am I went to the TJ Maxx in Downtown Crossing this week and there was nothing left, definitely nothing new. I live in hope that this'll become a regular thing though.

  55. Re; Final Sale
I live in Canada and have place many, many orders from FS. It is never marked as Final Sale on the receipt, the bags do not have the FS stickers on them and I've always been able to return items. I imagine it is because there are no J.Crew stores in Canada so they give us the opportunity to return. Or I'm just lucky, maybe?

I purchased a FS item from one of the JCAs on this blog and the bag had a sticker on it: "Final sale items cannot be returned." I've never seen that on any of my ordered items before or since. Considering that most of the time it sucks to have no B&M around, if this is one perk then I'll take it.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I know this has been said before but just wanted to mention it in case there are any newbies:

When searching JCrew's site, you can locate items not displayed when navigating through final sale by searchiing on price point(s) or color(s).

    ReplyDelete
  57. I also noticed JCrew in a Verizon wireless commercial. The guy runs into his ex and she is asking him if he changed (something like that) while he has the Verizon team behind him. Anyway, she is wearing the swiss dot Fontana dress in navy. They're everywhere...like Gap.

    ReplyDelete
  58. gigiofca had a review of the garden lace shift dress on her blog. IMO this dress looks like something you would make if you were just learning to sew. cut front, cut back, add lace on front, make keyhole opening on back and stitch 2 pieces together.

  59. Hi everyone!

I won't be going to a b&m this weekend, but would like to ask a favor...

If anyone sees the cotton sateen gateau skirt at their store, I would LOVE to know what it looks like IRL and how it fits. THANKS!

    ReplyDelete
  61. I just used the "cancel entire order" feature for the first time and that's a handy little option once remorse sets in. 20 minutes is just enough time for me to realize I do not need another coat and should wait until a better promotion comes along.

  62. amy,

  63. OT - a JCA was awesome to offer her TJMaxx find of Penelope peep toe spectators in my size - size 10 and I missed them. Another lucky JCA got them first. No, it is not their job to pick up a dressing room mess. Manners go a long way. Too bad most people don't know about them!

  66. I think it's great that we are talking about quality. Mickey should address this. I thought the email gets to the point. I wonder what Mickey will do from there, besides answering her email.

  67. I received the 30% off pants online and in store email this a.m. Since there's no code the prices should reflect the discount. Don't they usually advertise the discount on the website too?

    ReplyDelete
  68. Some cute madewell stuff (I like the leather jacket if it weren't leather, lol), but I hope JCrew never makes those hideous onesies/rompers/ 'boilersuits' (see: are you kidding me).

    ReplyDelete
  69. I wonder if anyone can help me out? I bought a teal sleeveless silk sheath dress at TJM. Style # is 96143 from fall 08. I don't have any fall catalogs. It looks as if the dress had a belt, and am trying to find what the belt was like. Not sure what type of belt to use instead. TIA!

    ReplyDelete
  70. ...That onesie is actually not as stupid looking as others I've seen. urban outfitters and topshop probably have the most disastrous of the type.

    ReplyDelete
  71. I am going to hold off of more sale items for now. I did get a pair of white denim bootcuts that I LOVE. I have been trying to get them in my size and I finally did. Yay. And, yes.... I have done the "cancel order " thing too. funny. Have a good day all.

    ReplyDelete
  72. anon 10:33,

sounds like the hammered silk laura dress, the sash is supposed to be same fabric/color as dress. Very frustrating that sometimes at TJM the sashes/belts are missing from dresses and jackets.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Has anyone tried on the cocktail capris? I was wondering about the fit, feel, style. I'm kind of torn about getting a pair in the gray.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Unfortunately, I have no knowledge of current sale items.

I did want to comment on customer service. I personally have always received excellent customer service at my J.Crew store at Southpoint Mall in Durham, N.C. I feel bad for those that haven't. But, everyone there has always been helpful to me.

    ReplyDelete
  77. since the pants are on promo, and not on sale i can't still have them altered for free at the store!

    wonderful!

    ReplyDelete
  78. anon 10:33 + 10:42,

you could try another silk sash in a contrasting color (citron, purple, grey), or maybe a skinny leather belt in light pewter or a metallic or just basic black. A patterned scarf could also be a funky + bold option. not sure if one of the larger or menswear inspired belts would work... might make too many wrinkles with the fabric. HTH!

    ReplyDelete
  79. Heather -- thanks for all the great suggestions! I think the skinny belt is a great option for me :). I'm petite, and I don't want to break up the line of the dress too much, so a skinny belt should do the trick, especially w/ such light fabric.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Oh, hausfrau (love your name):

I must have read your mind. I did a review of the chambray cocktail pants yesterday on my blog...click on my name and look for the entry entitled Review of the Awesome Chambray Cocktail Pants. I think you can tell from the title how I feel about them.

:) I wish they were part of the 30% off. I would buy five more pairs.

  81. On the topic of quality: I was browsing through the blouse rack at TJM the other day and thought to myself -- every JC shirt I come across is poorer quality (i.e. snags in the joelle, see through t's, etc.) than the majority of the others. It was disheartening because a side-by-side comparison to other brands didn't make JC look very good :(

    ReplyDelete
  82. Dina, thank you! I'm going to read your review now.

The best thing is that my husband's last name does contain "haus," so I'm a haus frau by name, lol!

    ReplyDelete
  83. Anony 10:11 actually I will wear the BR silk blouse with J.Crew. I plan to pair it with the white Bistro pant and for another look with a white pencil skirt from 2006, I believe. The blouse will also work with some of my suits. I think I can pair it with jeans to dress up a casual look.

My opera-length pearls quadruple-wrapped should look great great with this top because the neckline is somewhat open and the pearls fall nicely as a collar. I love the turquoise color, it is a fabulous color for me so I'm excited as I love brights and I love silk. Wish the J.Crew tunics came in some lovely bright colors.

  84. On customer service, the SAs in the Seattle stores have always been very nice. Not too pushy, not too distant. I don't like the locked dressing room policy, but maybe their theft rates are high, I don't know.

Here's a tip for pushing the relationships in the right direction: When a cash register clerk asks you if anyone helped you (and nobody really did), smile and say, "you did!"

    ReplyDelete
  85. Thanks for the link to the Madewell Lookbook JCBellemarie.

I see that Madewell has taken to giving it's items cutesy names similar to Antrhopologie: switchyard shorts, station skirt, boilersuit. Made me think of Anthro as soon as I saw the names.

  91. Thanks to everyone who suggested looking at Target for J. Crew-style jewelry. I got a great pair of "coral" earrings and a large, peach flower pin that is exactly (exactly!)like the flowers on the rose merino cardigan. It'll look great on a navy or pewter Jackie.

  93. Hi all,

Haven't been posting for a while put just wanted to put in my review of the Havona tank for anyone considering it.

I was hoping this would be my "special" piece for the spring. It looks beautiful on the model but unfortunately there are some execution issues.

The colors are a true aqua and the background color is very close to the golden cypress color that was available in some winter sweaters.

The silk is see-through with no lining. You will have to wear another cami underneath if you don't want your bra to show through. Most importantly, the flower on the neckline has a flatness problem. The petals look flat layered on top of one another so it just looks like a random flap of fabric hanging off the neck. It would require significant fluffling/pinning to get it to look like it does in the lookbook.

Fit wise, it is flowy over the body, kind of like the elizabeth halter, but slightly more fitted. No side zip. I wear a L in the Elizabeth and the 14 in the Havona fit well.

Unfortunately due to the see-through fabric and flat flower issue it is going back.

  94. Does anyone know if the Pasadena, CA store has additional % off? From looking through comments it seems that there are no additional % off to report :(

I'm going on a shopping trip tomorrow with my "girls"and will be stopping in to that store. I'm so excited b/c I usually have to shop online!

  95. I've used the cancel feature a few times myself. It's a great feature. Sometimes I'll order the item again the next day though. I'm indecisive I guess. I just snagged another pair of matchstick cords in a color I really wanted so I'm happy. I wish J Crew would make all of their trousers available with 31" inseams instead of just the standard 33". Not everyone is super tall or wears heels all of the time. 31" is perfect for flats.

  97. JCrew,

I am so happy you make your pants with a 32 or 33 inch inseam. I prefer the 33 inch inseam! If it weren't for you I wouldn't be able to find pants that fit.

Most places make Tall inseams WAY to long and the average inseam of 30 or 31 is WAY TO SHORT.

Cheers JCRew to your 33 inche inseam. Keep them coming! Every pair of pants in my closet is from you! (and that is a lot of pants!) When I was getting ready to move it was 75 pairs!

  98. That letter is obnoxious and I hope it doesn't get a reply. Mickey will probably hit "spam" and it won't filter anymore emails to his account. What a waste of his time. If you truly had an issue, I'm sure it would be addressed properly, but this is a joke.

It' just the classic example about how Leigh/Siv Lam/Rapunzel1921/etc, etc, is trying to get attention on her site, with low-class blog pieces. That chick will try all kinds of BS to get noticed.

    Haha. She's probably "MAGGIE".

    ReplyDelete
  99. Jenny: At 5'8", I completely agree that the 33" inseam is PERFECT! I can wear it with flats, and with heels if I want to show off how fabulous the heels look. I have been known to buy the "short" length of 31" to show off my flats if they are pretty (like the joelles I own in spearmint). I think other companies do just what you said..regular equals 30 or 31 inch inseam, tall equals 36 or 37 inch inseam with nothing in between.

I have no idea how J. Crew is for the ladies who are petite. I know they offer petite sizes, but am not sure of their inseam length. My stepmother is petite and she says she has a real hard time with pants. I feel for her because she spends a lot of time mending her pants to adjust the length!

  103. tld51371-

I stopped by the Towson, MD store last night. I was going to browse around, but I basically walked in and then right back out.

There is a particular male who works there that I don't care for. He was working last night, so when I saw him, I left. He has a crummy attitude and makes smarta$$ comments to me when I'm in there (he recognizes me). I much prefer the Columbia or Harbor place location- their SA's are sweet and super helpful. The tall blonde w. the southern accent left Towson and works at Harborplace now.

I'm only going to go into Towson when he isn't there, from now on.

  104. I have actually complained to J Crew several times over the years about petite sizing, I'm 4'11". The inseams used to be 28" and they have gone up over the years. Unfortunately, I haven't become any taller :-) I wish the petite tops had a smaller torso in addition to just length. I have pretty much found that the petite sizes are useless in pants since I'll have to get them hemmed anyway or wear capris as regular pants.

    ReplyDelete
  105. jbird-It's funny you said that because the first time I walked in (I almost always go in twice) everyone ignored me completely, even when I walked past the counter. When I went back an hour later a really nice petite girl with dark hair helped me. I do remember the blond and I'm glad she's working at the Gallery. I do know the gentleman you are referring to, but I never seem to have any interaction with him.

  106. tld51371,

I have posted so many times lamenting about how jcrew petite inseams have gotten longer over the years that I feel like a broken record, so I will just say as a 5'1" shortie, I feel your frustration. :) I no longer buy the jeans, but still get the cords b/c I love the colors. I hem all of them, or roll them up until they're hemmed. :P

    ReplyDelete
  107. dinagideon,

Glad you agree! I am 5'9 3/4" to be exact and the 33 inches is perfect for me to wear flat. (I cannot wear heels anymore!)

I do hope JCrew makes more pants with the 33 inch inseam. The 32 is just a tad short for me...kind of that ify area...

  108. J crew final sale re stocks are really just returns. I return items from final sale if they are not up to my standards in cut or missing a button or the fact that sizing has been all over the board lately. Final Sale is turning into a full price Thrift Store. Notice how one day they only have size 2, the next day sold out, the following day only size 14. My opinion same s&*#t, different day, slightly varying prices.

  109. Cass thanks for the info on the Havona tank. I had to look on the website after reading your post and is it ever see-through. Although the letter is super humorous and right on the money on many points, I REFUSE to contribute to that blog. I know newcomers are not aware how shady the owner is, but I was secretley hopeful she'd be ashamed of her dishonesty and will shut down her operation eventually. Seems like she continues to lure innocents with (occasional) interesting reads. I wonder if people never stopped and thought for a moment why is exactly her blog is sooooo dead!

  111. I'm 5'-10" and most of my pants are J Crew for reason: The 33" inseam.

For me it's perfect with flats, which, at my height, is what I wear most of the time. I hate the 32" pants, as they look flood-ish, and are only suitable to wear with sandals for a cropped look. If the pants are prone to shrinkage, I have to buy talls and have them hemmed, even if they start at 33".

In my dreams, J Crew would do what Lands End does, and let you select your inseam down to the 1/4". Of course, that is a returns nightmare for them, so it will never happen.

If it makes the short to medium height ladies feel better--ALL the coats and dresses that are not offered in tall sizes were designed for you and not me. Try being 5'-10" and finding a coat or dress that hits at the knee at J Crew.

  113. "Final Sale" items not always final...

Just thought I'd pass along a tip on getting around "final sale" items (if it works with your local store). On a few occassions I have called and spoken to my local store manager BEFORE placing my final sale order to guarantee that I can take the "final sale" item(s) back if I'm unhappy with them for any reason. Never had a problem, just gave the sales person the name of the manager I spoke with and viola, seamless returns!

My rationale: if I'm ordering Petite sizes, they don't offer them in store and I shouldn't be stuck with something that I don't have the option of trying on before purchasing. Same argument could be applied to Tall sizes or anything that's online/catalog only.

Also, I used to work at there in college and my managers always said that they "can't say no to a customer", so if you wanted to return badly enough, I'm sure they'd take back a final sale item regardless of checking it with them first.

    ReplyDelete
  114. pakcola, i have the glenbrae boots - flats and heels. was torn between the two, bought the heels on sale and was lucky enough to find the same size and color in the flats at tjs for $19.99. my most prized bargain from everything i got there :)

anyway, am loving the flats because of the side zipper. i don't know about you, but unless i'm wearing super skinny jeans, my pant legs seem to bunch around the knee in boots. but with the zipper on the boots, you can just tug the bottom of your jeans down and zip back up and no bunching!

i highly recommend the boots, looks great with jeans, skirts and casual dresses.

    ReplyDelete
  115. I'm 5'7 with long legs and the 33" is perfect! I would love if all their pants were 33". All the 32" pants I have gotten are just a tad bit too short. Ok with flats but there is no way I can wear the 32" with heels, even low heels. It just looks bad.

  116. Hiya,

Just got out of the J.Crew at the Shops at Liberty place in Philly - unfortunately I am a student on a tight budget, so I go more towards the versatile pieces and wait till the very last minute for some of the new things. I am not too keen on splurging on stuff that is delicate - I have been shopping at JCrew since I was 15 so I get a sense of what can go on sale and when so I'd rather much wait.

But what they do have if you are looking for something simple, classic and highly wearable are the short sleeve perfect tee, though the JCrew in Philly only had white, tea rose, navy, black, shell and tropical aqua; I picked up four @ $15 each! Also, the ruffle trim tanks are at $19.50 - other than that, there wasn't much.

I was really happy because the quality of the cotton on the tees is really nice (compared to when the Perfect T's first came out, so flimsy!) and I am already thinking of what skirt/short/cardigan combos they will go with

I did see the "Pearl Cluster Bracelet" for the first time - when it first came out I went into a tizzy because I thought it would go PERFECT with my wedding dress (I get married this October) and was torn between that and the current one I have (the Fireball bracelet in Cornsilk from Winter '08). Needless to say, I think that I will stick with the Fireball bracelet even though it is not a perfect shade of white (one of the colors of my wedding is yellow regardless); the Cluster bracelet looks so cheap! What a pity.

  119. Has anyone tried the Joley flats or seen them IRL? Looking at the zoom view on the website the soft seashell color has scuffs on the side, but it could have been just how it was stored/handled for the shoot. The footbed also has a mark where the shoe was clipped. Likely to a hanger or something, although that is how some cheap shoes like flipflops are organized for sale, hanging on the wall, clipped to hangers. Anyhoo, just wondering how they look IRL or if anyone has tried.

    TIA

i also forgot to mention how comfortable they are!

    ReplyDelete
  121. I have not tried the Joley flats but they do not look to be worth the price IMO. The zoom pic of stone color shows glue or something on the sole. No more purchasing plastic J.Crew shoes for me, unless they are $19.99 because that is what they are worth.

  125. For any JCAs in the Boston area:
The associates at the Natick collection are pretty awful with the customer profiling thing.
Nearly everyone at the Chestnut Hill store, on the other hand, are great. Especially Minor (probably spelled wrong).
I posted about my trip yesterday to the Wrentham, MA, outlet and what I purchased (http://the-violet-diary.blogspot.com/2009/02/bad-day.html). In addition, they had a lot of new stuff--short sleeved perfect tees, tanks, pants, capris, skirts, some flower chiffon belts, necklaces, Sanur dresses (though mostly Ms and Ls). Some things way overpriced ($69.50 (+25% off) for patterned Jackie cardis (polynesian print, light grey/white; giraffe print, oatmeal/white; and others--that's WAY too much), other things a total steal (tanks for $7, tees $10).

I'm still looking for Penelope peep toes or perfect pumps in dusty pink, size 8 or 8.5 if anyone sees them in a store or TJMaxx. I'll give my firstborn. :D

    ReplyDelete
  126. Gigi: after you have placed the order, navigate to the Order History and click on the link of the order. At the bottom in peach or pink you'll see a timer counting down and check box(es) next to the items. You can select individual items or all items to remove from the order.

I agree...my buyer's remorse kicks in way later than the little bit of time JC allows to cancel the order. Heck, I may even cancel it and then run right back and re-order it. I don't fool with it. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  127. Packola- I have the navy ecole and love it! I wear it all the time. Very nice color. I did not see the brown IRL or the burgandy.

Gigi- after you place your order go back to "order history" and look at your order. It will say "you have 20 mins. to cancel this order" It actually has time ticking down right there on the screen. Then you select cancel. They will send you an email after this confirming. I did it once because I was thinking....do I really need another skinny patent belt and so forth:)

  133. I received the JCrew Striped slub cotton hoodie, item 12577, in Navy stripe today. In my regular size S, the JCrew hoodie hits at bottom of bum. It looks more like it would work out as a beach cover up better than a top. (Notice how fitted it is across the back of the model's bum). I am sad to pass it up because I love the slight stretch and feel of the slub cotton. If the price goes low I may get it just to have it (isn't that terrible) but I really don't need another JCrew bathing suit cover-up.

The model's presentation is true to real life fit. Since this is so long you may need to size up if you are carrying any weight on hips/bum area. :)

  134. pakcola-
I wear a 6 and I got an 8 in this. The 6 seemed shrunken looking on me. I was worried mostly about the arm length. I have long arms. The shoulders fit fine. the sides fit fine...I probably could have it taken in a tiny bit, but I won't. My friends say it fits great and that I am seeing things. It looks best hooked in the front. Looks more tailored. (on me) It's my favorite thing from this past year of purchases. The fabric is wonderful! Neat lining details inside. I am happy with it. You will like it. I did get it in the olive color but it did not look good on me. Had to take it back. I bought my Navy one for 59.99, a steal for this pretty jacket.

  135. Pakcola, I have the flat glenbrae's in the dark maple color. I was able to find them about a month ago at my B&M for $100. For the price, I had to scoop them up. The fit is TTS. I have worn them all day in the office (super casual work environment!) and near the end, my feet do ache a bit. They can't compare to the Cole Haan Nike Air boots that I have, but the Glenbrae's don't bother me enough to stop wearing them either! :)

I sprayed the Weather Guard (?) on them that I use on all my other leather shoes. Not sure if that is helping any, but in general, these boots are VERY easily scuffed. Especially near the toe area- mine are already visibly lighter. I'm disppointed, but not shocked. If the price is right, they are a good knocking around boot. I just don't expect mine to be "forever" boots!

  136. I just returned from Easton Town Cetner in Columbus.

They had 1 pair of giraffe print shorts in a 10.

They had SEVERAL travel trenches, at least one of which was a 0.

They had a Primrose garden bracelet in that coral-like color for $39.99

They had 2 of the coral-colored bird's nest rings in a container on the counter with that bracelet.

Other than that, everything else was pretty much what is available online.

They said new items would come out this coming Monday and Wednesday with a roll-out online soon to follow.

A new catalog is still a a couple of weeks away.

I did not buy anything, only returned, but the SA gave me a 10% off card that has been mentioned in previous posts. However, it cannot be combined with the teacher/student discount.

  142. jbird: So sorry to hear about your awful encounters with the particular male associate at that location. I used to be an SA and I can't even imagine having the audacity to be rude to a customer, especially in front of my coworkers and managers! If his behavior is so bad that you don't even want to shop there, I'd email or get in contact with the store director (not just any manager--the store director will care the most that your complaint might escalate to Mickey). Most of the time the managers are aware or suspect these things but they never have a reason for reprimanding an SA unless someone actually sends in a complaint.

  145. I either shop at the Oakbrook IL b&m or North+Clybourn in Chicago. There is a huge difference for me! SA's are always nice and helpful at Oakbrook, they remember me, and are quick to start a dressing room with the stuff I'm carrying around.

However, at the North Avenue store I've had snotty comments made and noses turned up at me by two of the SA's, and so I only go there if I can't find my size at my normal store.

As far as shopping/dressing room etiquette goes, I am mortified that anyone has the gall to leave clothes heaped in a pile in a fitting room! Maybe I take it too far, but if I don't hang all of my items up perfectly and put them back where I got them in the store, I feel immensely guilty.

    ReplyDelete
  146. suilove, I have the double-serge in all the colors and found they all fit the same, except the bright blue, which was a full size larger on me.

I usually wear a 6 in J.Crew skirts but I ordered the double-serge in 4 or 6P and they all fit wonderfully, except the bright blue, which I had tailored to fit.

The only difference between the 4 and the 6P that I could find was the length. I like the 6P better because it is a little short and I like that look better than the to-the-knee skirt.

These skirts are beautiful and worth every penny full price. The fabric is soft and substantial and the fit is classic. The bronzed ochre is not a color I would ever choose but FFM had it in a few Polyvore sets that totally convinced me, one in particular with a burgundy jacket. I have burgundy jackets and sweaters and they look so good with the bronzed ochre. It is really one of my favorite looks this winter and I think of FFM every time I wear it.

Hope you get the skirt. If you can't get that color in your size, try another one. I started that way and now I have them and love them all.

  148. Urban SA's and suburban SA's are worlds apart. Usually in the city you are getting people who hate their jobs. They are going to be 'something else' someday, and think they're 'better' for that reason. In the burbs, you've usually got relaxed married women who are just there a few hours a week for some pretty clothes. I always get 'tude in the urban stores.

I have purchase a LOT of sale items since December, including some in the last few weeks. Except for a pull in one sweater back in December, everything I have gotten has been in pristine, new condition. I actually just received a Maggie yesterday in camel and it too was in perfect condition.

That is not to discredit any individuals who have had bad experiences, I'm sure these DO occur. However, I have spoken to the online SAs who have always told me that if a final sale item is recieved in less than stellar condition, they will always accept a return, despite the fact that it is final sale.

So, if you find something you REALLY WANT, get it. If it is less than stellar, call CS and you can return it for a full refund, including shipping.

  152. Stacy-Thanks for the tip about the Gallery J Crew. I hadn't been back there since the Towson one opened. The Towson store seems to stock more flip flops and tees than other kinds of clothes so it sounds like I should head downtown. I guess I'm lucky to have had little quality problems. My jackie cardigans have been beyond abused over the years and have held up. i think it's a little difficult to make generalizations. i know that where i live, it's the suburban stores that get a bad rep precisely because a lot of the SAs are (presumably) married women who are working for the discount, not to try to help customers. i won't reveal this area, but in the specific JCrews i'm thinking of, managers even dislike having to work with those associates, because they are a bit snooty and don't want to be treated like college retail slaves, which is what retail is i suppose primarily made up of. conversely, at the urban stores not too far away, and one i'm thinking of in particular, the staff gets lauded by Drexler himself, because so many satisfied customers write in to share their stories of great service. sooo...it's hard to judge, either way.

  154. I'm sure I'm not going to make any friends with this post, but I'm surprised people thinks it's rude to not hang your clothes up after trying them on. I hang up if I have time, if not I try to set them nicely, or at least not leave them in a heap. But let's be honest, hanging up clothes is a SA's job, which they get paid their hourly wage to do, not my job. And I've worked retail and as a server and still think this. I wouldn't scrape and stack my plates at a restaurant table even though I know it would help the server out. Same idea. Basic point, it's nice if you want to spend your own time making someone else's work easier, but don't call it rude when someone else has other things to do with their time (as long as they don't make a ridiculous mess of things).

    ReplyDelete
  156. KatyO - definitely agree with you about Natick "Collection" associates' attitudes. Can't remember Chestnut Hill. Ones at South Shore Plaza aren't bad. Have you ever been to the JCrew Factory Outlet at Wrentham Village? That place is so hit or miss. Some people are great, some are total snobs. This cashier the other day derided me for taking a cardigan out of my order, saying it was "the most basic piece" I'd chosen, as if I should have been putting something else back! Then, when I changed my mind, I was too embarrassed to go back because I knew he'd still be there, and instead went back the next day.

  159. Suilove, I think you should go with a petite 0 on the double-serge pencil skirt. I have the same problem as you, and wasn't sure which size would fit me better. I'm glad that I finally ordered a petite 0, because it fits perfectly. A petite 2 would have been too large.

  163. Its hard to be a SA at J.crew because some people love it when you talk to them and other people think you are being ingenuine and just trying to get them to buy something so they are rude. I had a hard time. My manager used to tell me to go talk to people but I would not always have the most pleasant interactions....

In my opinion/experience the best customer service means different things to different people.... Making it really hard to please everybody all the time.

I once asked this person if she was finding everything okay, and she said " yeah im just looking at socks okay want me to try em on and make sure they fit!?" I was so embarrassed because she said it loud right in front of her husband and friends and my manager.... I went to the back room and teared up a bit lol.

There are Bitchy SA and equally Bitchy customers. I guess thats what makes nice people so special.

I got the double serge ochre skirt in 0P and I love the fit of it. Normally I'm too tall for petite pants but the skirt is just fine on me. It hits a few (2-3") above knee and I'm 5'5"...with longish legs.

No no, of course you have a right to an opinion, as we all do. What you made was a generalization about all urban vs suburban sales associates. I'm not trying to set things "right" or "wrong"--there are no "right" and "wrong" opinions about most things--but just pointing out that it's unfair to make a sweeping generalization about any one subset of people. and THAT, my dear, is my neither-right-nor-wrong opinion.

Thanks for sharing. It's nice to have an SA's perspective. I've had good experiences at Derby St., not so much at South Shore (Boston). Just wondering, do SAs work on commission? I always try to remember names when I'm asked if I was helped.
    -S

    ReplyDelete
  169. @ 7:21:

As a current SA, we do work on commission--but it's not very much at all, so it would be great to be able to give a name at the register if you remember, or even describe the person, of course, only if they actually helped. I know a lot of our regulars who don't necessarily need a lot of help from us sometimes still give our names because they know, but of course, entirely unnecessary and not expected.

  172. I've worked in and visited many locations in the United States and always find the SAs at J.Crew to be wonderful, but often, so are the SAs at other stores. I mentioned this to my husband the first time we traveled to the U.S. together and he was pleasantly surprised. He is Canadian, I am European and the American retail staff are phenomenal from what I've seen. Canadians always say they are so polite but few will ever hold the door for others or offer to help someone with their packages, etc. They do not even offer an expectant woman a seat on the bus/train, which I find apalling. Well, I've seen women do it, but never men.

Americans have the reputation for being rude but it is so untrue. Not that Canadians are rude, but they are not the uber olite folk they believe themselves to be. They do apologize for everything under the sun, but there is more to politeness and courtesy.

We travel to the U.S. a few times a year specifically to shop and visit restaurants, attend shows. There are different stores sure, but we love the customer service and genuine nature that we find in the retail staff. Of course there are people who don't go the extra mile or maybe are having a bad day but come to Canada and shop and you'll love it when you get back home!

    ReplyDelete
  173. ^ Oh, and on my Canadian husband's behalf, I'll apologize in advance to all the Canadians reading my post.

  174. I used to be a SA (not at jcrew). I agree that it's their job to pick up the dressing rooms, but it's nice not to trash them. It's also really hard to figure out how to help customers. I personally like a friendly hello and then be left alone (unless I ask for help). Otherwise, I feel too much pressure. On the other hand, many customers want more attention. It's just not always easy to figure it out. Under no circumstances should a SA be rude, no matter how rude the customer is. I'd always mention it to the manager or even higher up. In these tough times, you can't afford to have someone like that on the staff.

I agree with a previous poster - becky in Copley is awesome.

  177. There is a male SA at the Market Street (Westfield) J.Crew in SF that is beyond amazing. He finds great outfits in perfect colors and always seems to have a few amazing deals for me as well. If there is a promo he will be sure it apply it on top of any other discounts. I don't know his name but he is shorter and has dark hair with a goatee. He's older, 40ish, so perhaps has been working in retail for many years and is a pro.

  180. Anony 8:44 - I always seem to get the older guy at Westfield, which works out great for me. My boyfriend looks for him whenever he goes in the store and says that if he makes eye contact, the SA is there like that *snaps* and will be waiting on him until he leaves the store, purchases in hand. It really makes a difference for my BF as he doesn't usually like to shop but the SA makes it effortless and fun. A real asset to J.Crew!

Where do you weigh in on the JCrew being in that new location on the Bloomingdales side of the mall? I really liked it when it was on the Nordstrom side--and it seemed bigger, too! Now it just seems to be an odd barbell shaped. No matter, I still frequent it, and yes, get great service!

    ReplyDelete
  182. I too... just this week used the "Cancel" option, but I was only trying to cancel one item and didn't know how to do it & missed my sizes as a result :(

Oh I just came from J Crew in Chicago on Michigan Ave...

& "thinking" wrote in the real simple blog wondering about the nude glass bead necklace the model was wearing. They're not sold online or in the catalog, however they have a couple and it's a double strand w/nice clasp surrounded crystals. It can be wrapped twice. It's gorgeous!! Check it out it's worth the price of $125. I bought one!

    ReplyDelete
  183. Anony @ 9:02 - I liked the old location much better. It seemed more open, better designed and definitely bigger. The new loc only allows you to see a bit of the store at a time, which isn't great when shopping with someone else. You can't tell if they are in the fitting room, another section, or waiting outside the store. Some of the items the SA brings to my attention I would never find on my own as they seem to be in odd places based on my pattern of browsing. I also found the lighting in the other location to be more pleasant, if that makes sense.

Westfield SF is still my favorite location as far as service goes, although the Palo Alto (Stanford) store is great for me too. I've read other JCA posts that find the PA staff to be unhelpful but they are wonderful for me.

  189. anon 6:49: You cannot make sweeping generalizations about the Canadian retail industry like that. I live in a not so friendly city and I find the retail clerks helpful, many know me by my first name, and they are never rude. I have also travelled across Canada as well into the US. I find the level of service to be about the same of course I love when I visit J Crew stores, which is not often enough IMO.

  190. Since I see some discussions about the double serge pencil skirts and sizing, I have a QUESTION:

I bought one of these (as well as the pencil skirt that was black with metallic gold flecks I'm sorry I don't know the name, it was from the fall). They were on a GREAT deal, I couldn't pass them up... However, I bought them in 4 when ideally I would wear a 2, maybe a 2P...

    So my question is this:
Have any of you ladies had these sorts of skirts from JCrew taken in (or shortened, I MAY need that too..) Is it possible, is it a disaster, should I seek out a special sort of seamstress? I know NOTHING about alteration or mending of clothes. I can't even thread a needle ;)

Any input would be SO very appreciated.

You can reply here or email if you want to for any reason.

It is not the SA's job to pick up after you. Basic Kindergarten lesson. Pick up after yourself and leave things the way you found them...on hangers if they were. Nicely laid out on the dressing room bench/chair/hook if no hanger. There is no exception to this rule. Plain, basic, and simple.

  192. I lived in IL--3 cities and MN--2 cities as well as TX. Now I live in the UK. There is no such thing as customer service here...basically. There are exceptions but that is the basic esssence here. I have meet many people that are from the UK and their spouse is American or they are from the UK and lived in America for a few years and are now back in the UK. They all comment on how the CS is so much better in the US. I feel very lucky to have grown up in America and know what we have. It makes me feel very appreciative.

  194. Jackie in SF - I did the same, I bought a P4 when I am normally a 0. I just took mine for alterations and will collect it next week. It was rather pricey... will let you know how it goes when I receive it back!

    ReplyDelete
  195. Jackie in SF - I had one of the double-serge pencils taken in as my regular size was too large and since I got it on FS with limited inventory I didn't want to send it back and chance not getting a different size.

It cost $18 to have it taken in by a professional seamstress, working downtown in a large city. Two ladies run the shop and they've done wonders for me before. The skirt turned out beautifully. I also wanted it shortened and they told me that they could do it, but it was designed to be that length and shortening it may ruin the look. It would mean either shortening the kick-pleat, which could ruin the look as they said, or moving the body of the skirt up under the waistband, which would require a new, shorter zipper and would shorten the darts, which could also ruin the look as it would change the fit. I decided to leave the length and I'm fine with it as it's a fall/winter item so a little extra length is OK. Depending on your height though, you may really need it shorter. Or not.

The waistband must be taken apart in order to take the skirts in, it's not just stitching them in up the sides. The lining on the waistband and body of the skirt must also be adjusted to accomodate the downsizing. The extra steps give it a professional fit, which is really important on quality garments that will last years, as these pencil skirts will.

To find a good seamstress ask your co-workers, boss, mother, friends, or try an upscale department store (their tailors do alterations on a multitude of garments for men and women, not just what a small boutique would sell). If that's not possible then try the yellow pages or online and when you visit ask how long they have been doing the job, what needs to be done for the alteration, etc. If they can explain the multiple steps in the alteration and seem to know what they are talking about, that is a good sign. If someone offers to do it for $5 - don't go there. They probably don't know what is involved and will ruin your skirts.

The old adage used elsewhere holds true here as well. Why is it so expensive to alter quality garments? Because it's worth it. You don't want to spend a few bucks and end up with junk. Rather spend a reasonable amount and have a well-fitting garment you will wear for years.

  196. casual-crew I stand by my statement based on my extensive experience and conversations I've had with others. This has been of interest to me since I came to N.A. in 1993 so it is often a topic of conversation that I initiate when I learn that people have spent time in both countries.

One of my husband's relatives works for the largest payment card transaction acquirer in NA as a Point Of Sale technician. He goes from store to store upgrading POS equipment and networks in Canada and the U.S. I was curious, as always, so had to to get his take on the differences. He said that hands-down the U.S. retail staff are much more friendly and courteous. He had horror stores of Canadian retail staff but when talking about the U.S. locations he visited he would mention fun facts about the locations, that were told to him by the staff making conversation. He said that the Americans welcome him into the store from the start, tell him they have been expecting him. The Canadians consider it a major inconvenience and he has been told many times that they were "Hoping you were canceled." Nice.

I realize that there are exceptions to every rule but you yourself said you live in a not-so-friendly city so what does that say? Some people know me by name in the stores in the city where I live as well but I'm more impressed by visiting a store where people DON'T know me and make a phenomenal effort. They have no idea whether I will buy or not and still treat me like a queen.

Canadians love to point out that they are different than Americans, and they are. They just don't want anyone to mention the differences that paint them in a less-than-favorable light, and courtesy is one of them.

I've also written to Rick Mercer on the topic a few times and strangely, he does not acknowledge my email. Of course, that topic would not fly on his show...
