"Thank you!" to Posey (check out her great blog here) who shared with us her review of these jeans plus several real-life images (how fantastic does she look in them!?!)

After reading your posting on the Madewell "Rail Straight" white jeans, I went to my Madewell store to check out some of their spring goodies. (My measurements for reference: 5'8'' tall, 24 in. waist and 31 in. hips.)

I tried on the white version of the "Rail Straight" jeans in a size 25 waist, which is my usual J.Crew jean size. They were too big in the hips and butt area. I was surprised to find that their smallest size was 24, but they were still too big in the hip area but snug in the butt area.

In both sizes the thigh area was kinda tight, but the denim was structured enough not to reveal any of my nooks and crannies. They were really low-rise. When I sat down in them, I had a sudden "crack-attack."

I talked with one of their associates and she said the best thing to do would be to size down because after a few minutes of wear they stretch out a lot.

They were OK jeans with a teenie-bopper feel, but I'm sure there are some skinny white jeans that are better suited for grown-ups. Hope this was helpful!

"Thanks!" again to Posey for her fabulous review! (Incidentally, I am loving her ballet flats in the images! Are they the J.Crew Salina flats?)

What are your thoughts on the Madewell Rail Straight Jeans (do you like/dislike the fit)? Are you considering or already have purchased this jean? Have you seen this jean in person? What are your thoughts on Madewell denim in general? :)

  1. HaHA! I love the line about "crack attack" LOL! Thanks for the info, Posey (and Alex for posting)...love how you look in them, just fantastic. Too bad I can't buy a whole new physique at Madewell!

  2. Thanks Posey! Since I'm not by a store I had thought of ordering some jeans via phone, but now I think I'll pass. I am almost the same size as you and it sounds like I might have sizing issues.

    Love your scarf/cardi!!

  4. Posey looks fabulous, and not due to the jeans. I hate the way the pocket lining seems to bunch up and really show under the fabric in the front. IMO this is not a sign of quality on any jeans, especially white jeans. They are not something I would buy for that reason alone. One little flaw usually ruins the whole thing for me. I would obsess about it and be annoyed the whole time they are on.

Thanks for the IRL photos and review Posey. Very helpful.

  6. The jeans look amazing on your figure. Of course, you are beautiful as well. J Crew/Madewell should hire you as a model. They could use some diversity. Hear that Mickey??

  7. White jeans that flatter me are so hard to find! I've been looking for a few years and have yet to find something.

I really love the gray jacket though, that the model is wearing!

  8. These look AMAZING on posey!!! I fear they wouldn't be quite as flattering on me, though. ;) Those who can wear them definitely should- they look great!

  10. Thanks, Posey. I can see your point about the jeans. I love the outfit, though, the "guava" sweater, beige tank, white pants and ballet flats.

A little OT, but do others think J. Crew jeans are growing over the years? A pair of 29s from 2005 fit about the same as a 27 now. . .

  11. Whoooo, those are some tight jeans. You look FAB. I will abstain, myself. No one wants to see my junk.

  13. You are a beautiful girl-you look like a model!

Those jeans though..... too tight for the light. Keep modeling stuff though. I'm sure you look good in 99.99% of all clothing.

  14. I prefer the JCrew white matchsticks. I think that they are less 'tight', which is better for a 40 year old! Posey looks amazing, however...

  15. I'm lovin' all the positive feedback! Wishing they were a better fit for a larger majority of women. Seems like they are trying to market toward another demographic..Oh well, I'll continue to anxiously wait for warm weather to break out my white version of the high-heel flare jeans. Perfection!

  16. I don't think they flatter your butt. I prefer the pockets to be right on the cheeks. And the visible front pockets are awful. Love the orange cardi and your cool hair, though. I would love to see the JCrew white matchsticks on you. I tried them on and I wasn't sure if I liked them.

  18. i've tried on other madewell denim and cords, and i find the fit to have similar problems. i'm also a size 24, and madewell's size 24 fits at least a size bigger. the lowrise is a real problem -- when i squatted in the fitting room, my butt fell out of the pants!

  19. I have noticed jcrew's sizes have changed since they added the 25. I used to be a 26 when that was the smallest size, now those are too big.

Also, my jeans are growing over the months. My hipslungs used to fit perfectly for 1-2 wears. Now, at the end of the day they are stretched out to the point of being baggy. Anyone else have this problem?
