  3. I try every day too, and I have never gotten three in a row. I force my DH to try too, and he hasn't either (he also might be lying and not really be trying). I think the promo about the passport covers has ended though, right? So if you do get three you won the big prize? Is that right?

And yes, I can't put a single thing in my bag right now :( I did take the opportunity to re-think and take a few things OUT though. . . that'll show 'em

  5. I think this shipping codes expires Feb 28 because I've heard from a couple of sa's that the website will have new items that day. Hmmmm

  6. Is anyone else sick of free shipping codes? A lot of online sites have free shipping as is without any special codes. It's annoying when there's a few codes out but they're all for different amounts like minimum $100, $150,$175. It's not like I'm going to make three separate purchases. if someone has a $200 purchase they can use any of the three codes.

I just feel like JC needs to have more percentage off deals and more incentives to frequent shoppers.

  7. OT - does anyone own the Shimmery python pencil skirt or reviewed it's fit? #99762
Any info would be helpful. Thank you.

  8. Bekah - I thnik part of the reason we're not seeing additional % off, is JC's attempt to re-train us to expect such constant and deep discounts, also the getting-used-to the lower value of their merchandise. Free shipping is harmless in this regard. Also, their inventories must be low enough at this point that they can afford not to push sales like other retailers. Just my opinion.

  9. Sorry, meant Monica not Bekah..

  10. No one will ever get three in a row. I don't think these contests are for real...

  11. anon 10:31: I have that skirt and LOVE it! Try searching for it on this blog or Google and you'll see some reviews of it! I personally think it runs pretty TTS (although it comes up higher on the waist than I normally like and hugs the butt pretty tight so I COULD have sized up, but didn't) I remember someone made a negative comment that it was a really thick material and possibly added too much fabric to the back-end area, but I didn't really feel that way for myself... but the fabric is very thick! HTH!!

    ReplyDelete
  12. Lindsey B. - thank you sooo much for your thoughts on this skirt. I was hoping it ran a bit smaller, may avoid alterations. But I am glad to hear that you love it and the fabric. I too don't mind the thickness of winter fabrics, I think it makes them interesting. Thank you again.

  13. Hi all,

I was playing the sweepstakes a couple days ago when lo and behold, when I clicked Stop, three of the same images fell into line! This was about 11:04pm, and I was so excited (as in jumping up and down, much to the dismay I'm sure of the ppl in the apt downstairs)! When I then went to click Next, however, my computer (server?) stopped responding and I ended up having to close all browser windows and reboot. I managed to save a screen shot, and called up JCrew who asked me to email the screen shot to contactus@jcrew.com and ashley.

    This was their response:

    Dear Jennifer:

We appreciate you taking the time to share your concerns regarding the J.Crew Instant Win and Sweepstakes. We apologize for any inconvenience you experienced.

Instant Win Game winners are determined solely on the basis of the time when their Online Entry is received and processed and not on the basis of the results of the spin.

The game is better enjoyed with Flash 8.0 or higher. You can download the current Flash player from www.adobe.com/go/getflashplayer

    Thanks and Good Luck!

If we can be of further assistance, please let me know by responding directly to this email or through my contact information which I have provided below.

    Best,

    Susan

    Dear Jennifer,

Thank you for your interest in Special Occasions collection. Ashley is not available at this time. I am happy to assist you as I am also a dedicated J. Crew Wedding Specialist available to help you with all your Special Occasions needs.

I do apologize about you having trouble with entering our contest. We have notified the company who runs the sweepstakes and they should be contacting you shortly. If you do not hear from them, please let me know and I will follow up to see what can be done.

Please let me know if there is anything else that I may assist you with. If you have any questions about a particular style, or anything at all concerning the line please do not hesitate to contact me. Also, if you would like to set up an appointment to talk over the phone, please let me know and I will be happy to either give you a call or you can call me at your convenience.

Thank you again for your interest in the Special Occasions Collection at J. Crew.

    Have a nice day!

While I appreciated Tammy's kind email, it was just such an utter disappointment. Maybe it says differently in the fine print (ie winners are determined...not on the basis of the results of the spin), but for God's sakes on the Sweepstakes page, they do advertise it as, If three of the same images line up in a row (horizontally, vertically or diagonally), you win a prize... so give it a try.

Does anyone know if people actually do win?

Just wanted to share my experiences, HTH!

  14. JennLC,

I'm so sorry that happened to you. It's like you're so close and then...it's very disappointing but I hope something works out for you : )

  15. Anon 10:31 - I have the shimmery python print skirt. I ordered in my usual size and had to have it taken in at the waist. I don't have much of a bum or hips but could not have sized down or it would have been too tight.

Most people who bought it loved it based on comments on this blog in Dec/Jan. I found the metallic threads a bit much but my husband likes it so I kept it and have worn it a couple of times. The fabric is substantial and interesting and it is a quality, well-made garment. Hope you like it.

  16. Rule #5 of the Official Rules explains that "Sweepstakes" is separate, in effect, from Instant Spin Win. In any event, both seem to be further dependent upon a random drawing, not the spins. The spins are probably generating (they hppe) excitement/involvement. Of course, it is all confusing enough that this, too, could be wrong . . .

  17. Anon 10:31: I love the python shimmery skirt! Ifeel it runs to the size...very flattering!...But wasn't too comfortable wearing it to work...

  18. I was going to register, but I noticed that the page wasn't an https site, just http. I feel uncomfortable providing my full name and dob? If you do provide a fake dob isn't that grounds for disqualification in the unlikely event one wins something?

    ReplyDelete
  19. Anony 2:05 - why are you uncomfortable wearing the python skirt to work? Is it because of the metallic threads? They are pretty noticeable IRL, but I did not see that feature online and never connected the word "shimmery" to metallic threads. duh on me, I guess.

  20. That is good to know about the game in essence being false advertising. That is why I don't play them anymore. Waste of time.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I would not be surprised if they use the required birthdate to filter for potential winners who fit their age expectation of a bride. Who knows maybe they even google their potential winners to see if they're truly single.

    ReplyDelete
  22. ITA w. Monica, these free ship codes are kinda bogus ~ $175 is ALOT to have to spend to get the free ship. JC should just do a flat reasonable rate, like Ann Taylor of $6. That would be much preferred to these.

  23. The Zen of Retail Contests:
I don't think they care if the winner is engaged, married, or single. The value of the contest to the marketer is the consumer traffic it generates, from which purchases and interest are inferred. In fact, when you "win" a contest, you owe the IRS a payment based upon the retail value off the top--usually count on 25-30% of the retail value. Many of us can't afford that. Consequently, a lot of folks opt of the trip/appliance/goodies for the cash value [highly reduced, alas], pay the IRS out of that, and spend/save the rest.

    Still, winning is nice.

  24. OMG I got three in a row this morning and could not believe my eyes!! - then all of a sudden it changed. I know that I am not losing my mind and they had stopped and then started again-argghhh
Does anyone keep track of who ever wins these or do they ever post them on the site?

  25. Just wanted to share my review of four dresses I've tried (I'm on the hunt for a nice frock to wear for my university graduation). This is my first review, so sorry if I'm a bit vague! I've never done this before. :)

    Silk Chiffon Sophia Dress:
The material is so lovely and light! I got it in Tropical Aqua, which seemed a lot more green in person than on the website. It fit a bit tight across the bodice (I'm usually a P2 in dresses) and I actually couldn't zip it up all the way! I tried and tried, but in the end didn't want to accidentally rip the fabric, so I gave up. I didn't get to try this one sized up. For the record, I have a small chest, so I don't think that was the problem.

    Stretch Wool Daphne Dress:
I really wanted to like this dress, but it just fit strange. The top was too baggy and the skirt was too tight. You could see everything! I tried this in a P2 and P4, and both had the same problems. Also, the banding at the waist, which the website says is at the "natural waist," was well below my natural waistline. It was too high to be a drop-waist banding, but too low to be natural-waist. All in all, this was a pass for me.

    Lattice-print Slub-linen Camilla Dress:
I ordered this in the honey brown color. The slub-linen is beautiful! It's heavy enough to not feel fragile and hide all my unsightly lumps and bumps without being stiff. The print itself is not at all overwhelming, and I found this one fit TTS. I only sent it back because the way the shoulder straps were cut emphasized my broad shoulders (which I don't like).

    Cotton Cady Erica Dress:
This one is perfect! I got it in the spiced wine color, which went beautifully with my patent buttercup belt. It fits TTS, and the material is gorgeous! It was smooth, soft, and stayed where it was supposed to. But as with all strapless dresses, just be wary of slippage. The built-in support takes care of most of this, though.

  26. These $100+ purchase amount codes are a dime a dozen. I haven't purchased anything from Jcrew.com or a B&M Jcrew since early January, and surprisingly, I don't want anything either.

  44. This is OT, but has anyone seen shoes that resemble the Penelope canyon peep toe heels from another brand? I've given up on size 11 so maybe I should branch out and take a look at other places. Difficult to shop in stores since I'm busy with work and the kids, but if anyone spots anything that looks like them, please post. Thanks.
