J.Crew Offers An Additional 20% Off Online

"Thanks!" to many of you, including Kittykat, Suilove, & Jackie, as well as Catie (in this post) & Anon at 2:02 AM (in this post), who let us know about J.Crew's latest promotion. J.Crew is offering an additional 20% off sale items with promo code EXTRA20. {fantastic!} This offer expires 2/26/09.

I wonder why all these recent promotions (which I am happy to see) last for such a short time (e.g. 2 days). I remember them lasting a bit longer. ;) Hopefully the sale section will be updated with new merchandise too! :)

Do you think you will take advantage of this offer? If not, are you waiting for a better offer? If you do take advantage of this offer, please share with us what you purchase (we love to know!) :)

  1. Alexis,

Thanks for the post. There is nothing I want in final sale. Even if it is updated I would not buy b/c items are returns and could have been worn or be defective this late in the game. I am speaking from past experiences... 6 in fact where I had the above happen: worn, defective, wrong item in bag so I don't want a repeat experience as it is very frustrating.

I wish this was a more global promo. including new items but will continue to hold out.

  2. I plan on getting the velvet ecole jacket. I've been eying it for a while, hoping for an extra % off. There is not much else in final sale right now, so I will wait to order until the restocks go in, hopefully I will find a couple other things to add to the order :)

  3. i have mostly refrained from buying final sale, but since it looks like it might never end, i might get the claudine crackle toe pumps and the giraffe print cardigan...

  4. No. 20% off is just not good enough. I want the tall Marie coat but, eh.

  5. Blah all returns, who wants them.

  6. If it was 20% off Spring Sale instead of 20% Final Sale I would definitely bite. I just can't handle the hassle of Final Sale anymore. So until FS is over I am holding out!

  7. I have been hemming and hawing over the Lili cardi, and thing I will finally take the plunge. Every time I decide to do it, my size and color disappear. Plus, I start my no-unecessary-shopping tomorrow for Lent.

    Thank you, Alexis!

(And thank you Slastena, for the tip on how to check # items left.)

  8. Heidi G,

That is an excellent point about lent. I was going to give up sweets but giving up shopping would be better and harder for me so that would be a better thing to give up! Thanks for the comment!

  10. I might spend some money if they'd update their sale section...

  11. ^ ditto. I hope they update today. They didn't yesterday.

Thanks for the heads-up on the 20%!

  12. I finally got an olive velvet ecole in my size that I missed months ago.

Any reviews for the Grenada cami? I'm really tempted with the price, but that's still a lot for final sale.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I purchased few things using the 20% off code - the Grenada Palm Cami and another Cashmere Jackie Cardigan in putty, and I re-bought the Merino Melanie Cardigan in Putty since it was cheaper than the one that just arrived in the mail yesterday (which will now be returned). Nothing else was really jumping out at me. I'm ready for some more new arrivals. :)

  14. I just bought two Elizabeth halters using the 20% off, super excited!

  15. Can anyone comment on the width of the Claudia metallic heels? I need something wider than the narrow Alessia heels. TIA!

  16. Soon to be PHD: Did you size up in the Ecole? I'm normally a 4 and I purchased a Tall 4, which is still too snug across my back.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Nope, that would be a bummer if it's too small. Maybe it will show up on next week's exchange ;)

  18. woohoo! huge restock this morning, but it disappeared fast!!

  19. Stay strong!!

And if you are on a shopping ban it's best to not read these posts!

Must peek...afraid I'm going to 'miss' something...even though I'm not after anything. So sad!

  20. Did anyone else notice that final sale items are now highlighted in red in your shopping cart? Is this something new?

    ReplyDelete
  21. I used the 20% off code for the Snow Leopard Cardigan I've been wanting! Yay!

I purchased a size small and medium because I'm tired of guessing on FS items. A tad crazy, yes, but I will offer one to JCA at the 20% off FS price. We'll see how that works out for me. :)

  22. I have a few things in my shopping cart (though I probably won't buy anything), and only one of them says final sale... hmm.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I stayed strong. I looked but did not buy:) I am proud of myself! Yeah! Getting a head start on lent:)

    ReplyDelete
  24. Elle,

I saw the cardigan too and in my size large but I am on a shopping ban. I also prefer leopard in more than two tone. That will be nice of you to offer up your other one to someone here:) Cheers:)

  28. Most of what is being offered is the same as what they have been trying to get rid of over the past month or so. I can never seem to get the color or size of the item I am looking for. They must be cleaning out for the spring arrivals which I heard are due online on Thursday.

  29. So excited! Just ordered the Cotton Cady Claudine in Deep Atlantic for my college graduation in May. They finally got my size back in stock...although now I'm a little worried bc it says it's sold out. So either I got the last one or it's going to be one of those dreaded canceled orders...
It also was not marked as final sale in my shopping bag while other things were - interesting!!

    ReplyDelete
  30. I don't know if this is news to anyone, but I just used the code on two "sale" items, but apparently not "final sale" because they do not end in .99.

    ReplyDelete
  31. 20% off is not enough to entice me.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I ended up buying the velvet ecole jacket in navy and the merino turtleneck sweater in light brown. The total was $60, so the extra 20 exactly covered the shipping. Oh well, I'm excited :)
I agree with rosie - huge restock! My heart started pounding! But they disappeared fast and the things I really wanted weren't stocked in my size. Oh well, oh well

    ReplyDelete
  33. So the code can ONLY be used on final sale items but not sale items. Poo on that.

To the person asking about Claudia, I have had a heck of a time with this shoe. I am generally either a 7 or a 7.5. I ordered a 7.5 and it felt quite big - almost like an 8. So I sized down to a 7 and it was too small. If I ha known I would have stuck with the 7.5 because it was workable. Err on the side of larger and you won't have any trouble with width I don't think. But just know that they are a bit wonky size-wise.

  34. Sorry to post again, but I got an email from J.Crew responding to what I wrote in my survey! I posted the full thing on my blog, but the main point is that they offered to refund my shipping costs. I think that is really great customer service - especially in response to a survey! :) :)

    ReplyDelete
  35. glad i waited until the restock later this morning to order -- managed to snag the yellow french serge day coat for $80, in addition to the claudia pumps and giraffe sweater, although i have to cross my fingers that the coat won't be cancelled :/

  36. I just ordered three things I had looked at a few times. I had a rather upsetting morning and needed the pick me up, what can I say. I ordered a yoga hoodie in navy, the ruffle trim favorite tank in the saffron, and a beach cover up for a trip my husband and I are taking next month.

To j pearl: I really hope you get the dress. I ordered it a few months ago in the plum to wear in a wedding- I am the only bridesmaid and that's what my friend picked for me. You will love it. It is the prettiest, most beautifully made dress I've put on, aside from my own wedding dress!

  37. Does anyone know if B&Ms are offering additional percentage off sale? Since it's final sale online, I'd like to try a few things on before ordering. The sizing has been so varied lately I have no idea what size to get.

    ReplyDelete
  38. No extra % off at the J.Crew in Orlando and no Final Sale, either.

  39. I got 2 pairs of the BIstro pants, they are still a little high but are perfect basics. I wish I had seen the snow leopard cardigan, I'm stalking them at this point.

  40. wow, a candy tweed jacket showed up on the website. That's going back a while.

  43. I finally snagged the black bubble necklace! yippee :) And a bunch of super cheap sweaters, etc. for my boyfriend. I will teach him to like argyle if it's the last thing I do!!

  45. off topic, but I was holding out to buy the rosette t-shirt in shell on sale. I just checked the inventory and it is saying there is only 1 left in my size.

Do you think they will do like normal and dump a huge stock back in a couple of days for spring or do you think they are coming to the end of the inventory?

Obviously nobody will know this for sure but I know a lot of you are really good at following inventory and the patterns of restock so I thought i would get your input

  46. Alee-
Congrats on the black bubble necklace but check it carefully when you get it because I returned one a couple of weeks that was missing a bubble : ( I hope they don't sell that one again.

  47. Good morning. This is an email I sent a manager at j.crew today regarding the myriad of problems I've been having with them. I have been a loyal j.crew customer for nearly 10 years (I'm 25) and am just really angry today. Here goes:

I wanted to email you because I tried to reach you today regarding a new matter that has come up between myself and j.crew. I had placed an order last week and bought a skirt in navy because the yellow was unavailable at the time in my size. The item I was looking to purchase was 10584 sz 10 in light chartreuse. I placed two orders this morning on j.crew.com because your website is constantly updating which I love but can make placing one single order difficult. You are currently running a promotion for free shipping for swim. I wanted to place an order for a swimsuit and a skirt that was part of final sale. Had I placed these two items I would have had complimentary shipping and 20% off my final sale order and no problem. Unfortunately I was unable to locate the skirt at the time of the order. I called back this morning practically as soon as I noticed the chartreuse skirt was available to add it to my order. I was told I was unable to do so since the order had been finalized already which I understand. I then asked them to just cancel the order I had placed and hour before so I could replace it myself online with the skirt and they would not. I then asked to locate the item in a store for me since I had this problem ordering online today. I work in Manhatten. I am unable to go store to store (to all 8 stores) to look for one skirt. I was told they would not even extend that courtesy for me since it was a sale item. I then tried to buy a jacket that I had wanted with the sale skirt in question which would have satisfied both coupons (20% off final sale & free shipping on $150+). I have called before and been told “no problem you can use more than one code you just have to call because the computer cannot do this”. Today I was told a different story (that I would have to place two orders to use each code). That is ridiculous. I have placed 8 orders since Friday, February 20th, 2009 totaling close to $600.00 in addition to multiple other orders in the past few weeks & months. I did not ask for anything extraordinary today. If I had been able to place the order for the skirt and bathing suit this morning there would have been no problem. I’m sure you’re aware that now with the economy it is not a great time to be shopping. I’m sure you understand that customers are looking for a little extra loyalty at this time as they are showing you by continuing to shop with j.crew. I just cannot fathom that I asked for something this simple and had to wait on hold for a total of nearly 40 minutes to be told no. I’m sorry but I just don’t think this is fair. That’s why I had asked for you on the call after because I really need it explained to me why this is such a hardship. I know I have been granted free shipping in the past, I did not ask for that today. By the end of the call I merely asked to be able to combine two coupon codes that j.crew had sent me to fix a problem with ordering today which they have done in the past. I have to say, it really makes you feel pretty disgusted that j.crew falls all over themselves to do whatever you need when they mess up (items going out of stock after orders are placed, a website change that caused more problems than I can write) but when you ask them to fix an error on your end you are met with nothing. I really hope there is some way to clear this up.

I'm really hoping j.crew gets back to me...but I'm wondering...am I the only one who has these problems?

    Thanks,

    Laura

  48. Soon to be PhD - I ordered the Grenada cami about a week ago, and I love it! The print/colors are flattering, much more than the giraffe print cami, IMO. The fit is TTS, falls straight, and is not billowy at all. The bow in the back is awesome, too! I ordered a size 2, I am a 34C, about 5'1.5". Hope that helps!

    ReplyDelete
  49. Wow! I just picked up an XS Jacinda Jacket in Honey Glaze at TJM for $14!! I know this is OT for this post, but this deal blows 20% off final sale out of the water! I'm so pumped!

  50. I think that everyone should check out Martin and osa online.

They have some supercute stuff, and their prices are comparable to jcrews. The sale prices are great like a really cute cashmere cardi for $59.95!

All of their jeans are $50 right now and they look adorable.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Laura,

I have experienced the same thing many times. That is just what doing business at JCrew means. You are not allowed to combine both codes anymore. JCrew is really enforcing this rule. You may be able to slip by on occasion but those occasions are becoming far and few between. JCrew made the new system that way for a reason!

As far as items being available one minute and not the next that is the state of restocking. I do 90% of my shopping online and run into this kind of thing at many sites.

I have been ordering from JCrew for 8 years.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I dunno, ladies. I've been shopping loyally at J Crew ever since I earned my first babysitting money to buy clothes with when I was 13, and nearly 20 years later, I'm seeing more and more details heading downhill. The clothes are overpriced to begin with, lately of decreasing quality (even the pricier items like cashmere), often defective (I ordered the $295 vachetta tote recently only to have it arrive with one of the handles sewn crookedly - something the manufacturer HAD to have noticed before putting it in stock). Placing orders through the sale website is a nightmare and half, the regular shipping charges are outrageous, the promos and sales often of negligible value. Trying to get help with order problems via email I've often had to wait days for a response. I just don't know anymore. They take great pictures of great-looking models, but I'm thinking back to being a young teenager and pining for $48 sweaters in gorgeous marls - sweaters made so well I had them for a decade - and these days I'm feeling less and less loyal. Maybe I'm just getting crabby as I get older, but I'm having a harder and harder time justifying my loyalty...

  53. I did not find the grenada palm cami to run true to size; I am a 34 B and I got a size 8. I am 5'9" 133 lbs.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Susan: Thanks for the heads up, I hope it arrives intact!

Bekah: I sure will, though I'm not sure that day will ever come. I'm getting closer, though -- the other day I got up from my computer while I was surfing the morning updates and when I came back he had put $200 worth of stuff in my cart! When I met him he was wearing 10 year old free t-shirts and grungy sneakers, now he has a suiting vest and a light blue cashmere sweater on the way! I think the addiction is contagious.....

    ReplyDelete
  55. I don't know where to put this, but considering all of the talk recently about the Zebra tee, I thought I'd put my opinion up after trying it on today...

First let me say, I normally DO NOT like animals on my tees. I am 5' tall and I always feel like I'm dressing in garanimals when I wear animate objects on my chest. This is not a generization of all small statured people and how they should dress, it is just how these things make me feel and we all know that confidence is at least 50% of how something looks on you.

That being said, I couldn't wait for Thursday's update and drove to Easton Town Center this morning to see it all in person. I tried on a number of things, including the Zebra tee.

I have to say that I was pleasantly surprized at the heft of the cotton the tee was made out of. It's not too thick, but seems a bit thick for recent J. Crew tees. The beading it on a piece of fabric that is then stitched to the tee, so the beading has 2 layers of fabric behind it. The tee is truely gorgeous and it fits nicely. I particularly liked that the zebra didn't go all the way to the bottom of the tee, for us shorter ones who might want to tuck it in or fold it under.

All of that being said, it did not come home with me. I didn't like the way my arm felt against the beading when I out it against my side, and I was not in the market for a gorgeous $68 tee that I could only wear under a jacket. I think the beading might snag a sweater. This one I would buy on sale, but I don;t think it will ever get to that if what my SA said about it's popularity is true.

I did, however, leave the store with the beaded beatle tee. I paid full price minus the teacher's discount. This is coming from an individual who passed up the rose tee, so you know that I must have thought this one was special. The beading on this one looks like you have a jewel on your shirt and I can't wait to wear it. I do not like orange, but the color of this shirt is not what I would think of when I think of orange. I have strawberry blonde hair with pale skin and this did WONDERS for my complexion.

The shrimp tee was VERY pretty too, but I was looking for color. The called it the crawfish tee, but none of the crawfish in our creek look anything like that jewel. This one was also a pass for me as the antena or feelers of the crustacean land right on top of your breast and I has issue with "feelers" on my breast all day.

I got to look at the new catalog, also coming out Thursday, and there wasn't much else I was interested in. There was a pretty ruffled short-sleeved henley in an aqua color that may be another purchase for me this time around.

I hope this helps those of you out of "store range" with your decisions.

    ReplyDelete
  59. anon @12:16,

I hear you, and have been long lamenting jcrew's decline in quality/increase in price, but every now and then I get an amazing piece (on sale, usually!) and have the same feeling I did back when I was 14-15 and first discovering jcrew. They don't happen as often, and I spend more time now looking + critiquing than buying, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing for me. In the last 3 years, I've probably only bought 3-5 jcrew items at full price, I just don't want them that badly.

    ReplyDelete
  60. 20% off final sale is insulting. Really J.Crew, who do think you are fooling? How long will are they going to promote their final sale as final sale? Why not call it what it is and price it accordingly. CLEARANCE at rock bottom prices. Clearly, they have massive amounts of inventory. So much that they are selling to discount vendors. We all know this does nothing for the high end "image" they are trying to create for themselves. I love J.Crew and will continue shopping there, but they need to offer better sales off current items and deeply reduce off season items. Plus free shipping. Nothing is worse than knowing they are trying to make a quick buck off us.

    ReplyDelete
  61. This offer is tempting but I probably won't take advantage. I'm looking forward to the new arrivals coming online soon.

By the way, it seems that many of the city-fit chinos are online only styles - does this mean there aren't as many of the city fit in stores or are the styles slightly different? I usually shop online so I had not noticed this before but I was hoping to snag some while near a b&m next week.

    ReplyDelete
  62. I agree with all who feel their allegiance to J Crew waning.

My disillusion with their quality started about three years ago when I noticed that they stopped using leather for the soles of their ballet flats and dress shoes. And maybe I'm the only one who hates this, but I really wish they'd stop with the City Fit pants. It seems like practically all their pants now are low-rise--all the cutest ones, anyway. I want pants that hit me at the natural waist so that I can tuck in shirts without them coming untucked every time I raise my arm, and not worry that my underwear (or worse) is showing, or that I'll be sporting the dreaded Muffin Top. I know there are a lot of low-rise fans out there, but that's not me, and J Crew used to offer more than just one or two Original Fit pant styles.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I just wish to drop a note and say Hi to everyone who like me, loves JCrew. This is wonderful to run into all of you who are just as crazy about JC as me. Now, I frequently checked in on this site, to check what's the buzz in at JCrew Town. I love the sale and discount postings listed here. Am sure I will always be checking out what's for sale...

    Tadah, everyone!

    ReplyDelete
  64. Laura, seriously, why do you think you aren't able to use two codes on line? If they wanted you to be able to do that, they would. It's one or the other - just like for everyone else who shops there. Get over yourself.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Paper Bag Princess, thanks for the info on the Claudias! I'll probably order my regular size during this promo, keep your fingers crossed for me.

  67. The code is working on sale items too, and they have added new items.

    ReplyDelete
  68. I just got a few t-shirts. In white, heather gray, light pewter and shell. I figured it was a good time to stock up. Nothing else screamed a great deal. Though I really liked the Melody dress. I just couldn't bite, even with the sale.

  70. anon at 12:16 -- we must be on the same wavelength. I'm 31 and have been feeling the same way. J Crew is marketing now to the college-age/20-something dating set (where they used to make more clothes for casual weekends and work, for gracefully aging adults of all ages), but their styles just don't have as much class (for the most part) as they used to. They expire the year after they come out. The cuts are strange (long-legged, low-waisted, small-chested), the materials are often really cheap, everything shrinks no matter how careful you are - it's designed to fall apart so we'll have to come back for more. Reading the catalog is more sentimental for me now than actual shopping. I wish they'd shift some focus back to the 30-somethings who like more serious colors and cuts. The Hutton cover last month got me thinking about all this: that's what I want more of!

    ReplyDelete
  71. Anon at 1:05 PM, how did you get that to work? I found a suit I like but it won't let me get the free shipping after applying the 20% off code for final sale stuff. I really don't want to have to place two orders...

    ReplyDelete
  72. I just tried to order a final sale item plus a swimsuit to see if both discounts would work, and they didn't. :( I was still being charged shipping.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Spring Forward, I agree with you. Final Sale was fine a year or two ago when it only came a few times a year and only lasted a couple weeks tops. I cannot believe that final sale now extends up to two or more months! I simply am not ok with spending my money online without the opportunity to return it if it doesn't fit or if the color does not look good in real life. I bet J Crew might actually get rid of some of this inventory if they just allow returns on the darn final sale!

OK, rant over :) I'll just keep praying the final sale ends eventually so I can start ordering online again!

    ReplyDelete
  74. The final section def. seems picked out. However, I did purchase a swimsuit (top and bottom-yay) for only 17.00 with free shipping! Can't pass up such a great deal!

    ReplyDelete
  75. I couldn't help myself and just ordered the Grenada Palm cami. The extra 20% took off shipping, plus some. I feel confident with the size I ordered after the helpful comments from other posters- thanks so much!!! Here's hoping it looks as fab on me as it does on the model and in FFM's polyvore set...

    ReplyDelete
  76. soon to be PHD,

I want the cami too but not on final sale. You are more daring than me. I don't know what size between 2 to order and for $100 I cannot risk it. So will have to wait for it to be about 1/2 that for me to bite.

    Truly hope yours works.

    ReplyDelete
  77. I think the free shipping only applies to the swimsuits -- so if you buy something else you are charged to ship that item -- similar to when you order full price and sale items from the red phone, and you are charged only to ship the sale items. Seems totally nuts, but there it is I guess....

Nothing like that to make me stop shopping in my tracks unless it is a true NEED. Scary economy! Anyone who thinks they are immune...hmmm....new housing price drops info. out today too.

  80. I'm so excited! I finally took the plunge and ordered every single thing (ok, not everything, but most of it!)that's been in my shopping bag for awhile now. The extra % off applied to every item even though the only item marked final sale was the foldover hipster swim bottoms. Here's what I just ordered:

1)Meldoy slub cotton-silk dress in Lavender
2)Meldoy slub cotton-silk dress in Citron
3)Meldoy slub cotton-silk dress in Light Pewter
4)Cotton interlock Ava dress in Navy
5)Cotton interlock Ava dress in Fuchsia
6)Solid twist front bandeau top in jungle green
7)Solid foldover hipster in jungle green

Anyone else tried these items? Comments?

I guess I have obsessive tendencies when it comes to clothing. When I like it, I gotta have it in every color. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I don't have to return a single thing as I've been stalking these items for weeks! Returns are so deflating, does anyone else agree?

I tried the Cashmere Swing Sweater, and unfortunately it was a return. There was just too much "swing" below the empire waist - as my sister-in-law put it, it sort of gave that "four-months-pregnant" look, which is not what most of us are going for, I suspect :-)

  82. twisterchick,

Were any items regular/full price that the 20% applied too? or all sale items and final sale items?

  83. Does anyone have the Melody swiss-dot dress, and if so, do you think it's long enough for a business casual (emphasis on casual) workplace? I love swiss dots, and I have a gift card burning a hole in my wallet.

  84. Does anyone know if I can use the red phone and tell the rep about EXTRA20? That way I can not pay for shipping...

Or should I call customer service and tell them about free shipping + extra20?

    ReplyDelete
  85. It is my understanding that if you use EXTRA20, you cannot get free shipping - if you use the red phone EXTRA20 will likely not apply because it's supposedly online only, but if the rep does apply it, the shipping charges will apply because they only free ship full priced items. Ah, how I miss the days of extra % off as part of the sale automatically, allowing you to use a FS code.

  86. Meredith: I totally agree with you about the city-fit. I always find myself pulling my city-fit pants up because they're always inching their way down, especially after you've worm them for a few hours and they've stretched out. I like the favorite fit because they stay put which is important when you are running after a toddler.

Stacey: I also LOVE Martin + Osa jeans. I have 3 pairs already. They fit great and the washes are done well. I have J Crew's matchstick in ultra dark wash and it looks AWFUL. It's super dark on the legs and faded from the kness up. I looks like I'm wearing 'ombre' jeans. It's no wonder they are on sale.

  87. Thanks Silver Lining! What a bummer to hear that.

  89. Sorry for the multiple posts today, I'm clearly working hard on my research ;)

I had to add a quick product review on a new spring item, not yet online. I bought the rumpled french terry cardigan (style #13658) at my B&M today and it's very nice. It's shaped like the library shawl cardigan, except it's a thick, soft terry sweatshirt material. Colors come in pewter (a darker grey, which is what I got), light beige, and white. It has a v neck with large buttons and two small front pockets. I know, I know, it's still a sweatshirt, but it looks cleaner and more classy than a hoodie. At $59.50, it better be!!!

I happen to love J Crew sweatshirts and think this one compares in quality and style to last year's open sweatshirt cardigan with the tie waist. Love it!

  90. I decided to get the cotton eyelet dress with the additional 20% off. I'll give my two year old and slightly too small other J.Crew white dress a rest.

  91. Anyone know when they update the site? Used to be early, is it 9 or 10?
    Thank you in advance! :)

  92. I didn't see much this time around in the final sale. I love sweaters and the cashmere cardigans are at a great price with the extra 20, but I just bought too many sweaters over the xmas holiday!

I'm looking forward to seeing the new March arrivals whenever they get here!

  93. Does anyone else get their promotion emails late? i ALWAYS get mine late in the day. For instance the 20% off email came at almost 4:00PM. What kind of crap is that?

    ReplyDelete
  94. It doesn't even matter when the email comes sproutina, the east coasters get first crack at it anyway......unless you want to get up at 4am to compete for the best restocks.

  95. V-neck Sweater (97721), Tee (97705), ballet flats (11035), ... Was surprised some of the spring 09stuff went through at 20% off, didn't expect that extra discount! Great way to stock up on some of the great colors (love cantaloupe & lavender) in cotton and the cashmere tees!!!

  96. This is simply an honest question from an outside observer. I really don't want to start anything, so don't take this out of context or scream at me BUT:
For all of the complaining about J. Crew's customer service, website issues, discount policies, quality issues, fit issues, shipping problems, final sale policy, lame promotions, lack of good sales, etc. etc. etc.
Why do you all continue to shop there?
I was a J. Crew shopper for over 8 years, and after dealing with everything for long enough, I decided that enough was enough. I just don't purchase from them anymore. If you're so disenchanted with their policies and items (like I am, believe me) don't you think the best way to show that you're unhappy as a customer is to simply stop giving them money? I understand you like the clothes and hope they will fix things soon, etc. but as much bull$*#% as J. Crew pulls, I am amazed by how many of you guys let them get away with it. For me personally, there are so many other options and stores that actually DO respect and value me as a customer, and after all, they're only clothes.
Just my personal story, and I'm just curious about the answers.

    ReplyDelete
  97. I agree with K, I think somewhere in NYC Mickey and Jenna Lyons just sit and cackle about everything their customers let them get away with!!

  99. Can anyone comment on sizing/fit of the slub cotton puff sleeve tees (item 12668)? Thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Anon 7:31 - the slub cotton puff run on the large size, especially compared to the rosette tee. I have a Medium in the rosette tee and it is on the fitted side, I got a small in the puff sleeve tee and I am wishing I had gotten an xs. HTH.

    ReplyDelete
  101. OT, I was recently in a TJMaxx looking at JCrew supplies. I was looking at the pricing of other goods in comparison to JCrew and found it interesting that these bargain stores had priced JCrew stuff at the low end of the spectrum.

All the shoes were priced at $19.99and dresses in the $29.99-19.99 range. So, although JCrew may want to think they are better positioned in the market, their goods are placed cosiderably lower than DKNY, Polo, or even FCUK in bargain stores.

I regularly buy things from the Donna Karan line (pure dkny, etc) and find that when things go on sale, they are priced cheaper in the DKNY stores or department stores carrying the line. When the sale item goes to TJMaxx or Marshalls, they dont offer them at rockbottom/throw away prices.

But JCrew stuff was being offered at rockbottom prices when these goods were still being sold at considerably higher prices in their stores/online.

JCrew seriously needs to rethink its pricing strategies on sale items and what to do with overstock, past season stuff, etc.

    ReplyDelete
  102. I agree with lcsmom. The slub cotton puff-sleeve tee definitely fits large. I am a medium in most of their sweaters and usually buy medium or large tees and found that on this tee, an extra small gives me a nice tight fit. A small is a little loose but I ended up taking the small.

    ReplyDelete
  103. I didn't buy anything! Yay! I'm sure there will be some more reductions in price tomorrow since it'll be wednesday. For the past for additional % sales, i noticed that they offer the promotion on tuesday, they expect you to buy lots, and then wednesday there will be reductions and everyone will be upset that they bought it all today! Remember that happened with the so-called "PRIVATE sale" for cardholders?!

But for you ladies waiting for the restock, it USUALLY comes around 8:50 something AM eastern time. If you're ready to play that game make sure you're on your comp by 8:45 and just keep refreshing! Once it refreshes, make sure you get to your "GO-TO" items that you've been waiting for before they're gone! If you get to the refresh by 9:30, it'll probably be too late! Happy shopping!!! :)

    ReplyDelete
  104. Anon 7:31, I tried this on at my B&M today. I normally wear a 2 or 2P in JCrew tops, and the XS fit fine, so I would say the puff-sleeve tee runs a tad big. The slub cotton isn't as stretchy as the ringspun (I wear a small in that), so I think the slub cotton tees were cut on the looser side.

Personally, I didn't care for the puff sleeve, as I think it'll be problematic to layer under sweaters. There were a couple other cute slub cotton tees (not yet online) that I preferred. One was a wide scoop neck with pretty ruffle trim around neckline, fitted (not cap) short sleeves; in white, tangerine, lime green and slate grey (my description, not actual JCrew color names). The other was a deep-v neck with longer, fitted short sleeves, also slub cotton, in very pretty coral, lavander & blush colors. The only reason I didn't buy either of those tops is that the necklines were so low, that even a small busted gal like me felt overexposed if I even so much as looked down at my shoelaces.

  105. Hi all,

Well, chalk one in the plus column for JCrew customer service!

I had bought a 120s skirt a little over a week ago with my educator disc. Then I noticed that it went on a promo price just a few days later. I almost decided to call in for an adj, or buy & replace with the cheaper price. However, I figured that gas + time + trouble was more valuable than the few $$ difference in price. Then the 20% FS code hit, so I decided to give CS a call. They did point out that I was past the 7 day limit. Even so, the associate was pleasant & helpful annnnnd after a short wait, credited me over $20.

    Wooohooo! Yay Jcrew!

Of course, I'm gonna turn right around & spend that $20 on something else w. JCrew 'cause I'm an addict. Still, it was nice of them to make the adjustment. Guess it never hurts to ask!

Good luck fellow JCAs & happy shopping,

    Heather:D

  109. Just a note on the Grenada palm cami...I am usually a 0/2 or XS in JCrew. I took a 0 in the cami and I still had to have it taken in. It did not have much of a shape to it and was just billowy. I love the print though, and I had it taken in around the waist a little just so that it looked a little less like a potato sack, not to make it tight in any way. I LOVE it. I went for my "smaller" size and it's great. ONE caveat is that it was snug around the hips, so if you ever have that issue with camis you might need to size up. For reference I'm a 32C and I'm 5'5 1/2". I hope that helps.

  117. Y'all, today I got my Coralie light eucalyptus pumps, and I am...underwhelmed. I bought them during that 3 day window they were half price. The colour is very fab - but be forewarned that is truly a mint green. The website makes it almost seem like a blue tone. The pair I was sent had scrapes all along the inside and puckering of the suede on one side. The style is cute and they are comfy, but I doubt that I'm going to keep them. Like I said, aside from the cool colour, underwhelming.

If anyone wants to see the colour IRL, let me know and I'll take some pics and post on my blog.

  120. I gave in and bought a new navy cashmere crew tee after I ruined (shrank) mine when hand washing it! I got 20% off even though it didn't end in 99, but I'm not complaining! Also bought some rail road shorts because there were only 2 pairs left in my size.

    ReplyDelete
  121. Hey Kendra, I'm in love with the melody dress! I feel like Marilyn Monroe in it, it just hugs the curves in all the right places! That being said, if you're a B cup or below, I wouldn't recommend it. This dress is made for a larger chested woman. A refreshing change compared with the sophia dress, which is way too small in the bust.

  127. Kendra: LOVE the bistro pants, but they we just a touch tight (or maybe hit in the wrong spot) in the waist in my regular size, creating a bit of an uncomfortable muffin top issue... so as much as I love them, they are a no for me. I bought the Premium Chinos on final sale a couple weeks ago and I love their fit and they're the softest pants I've ever felt!! The bistro pants are such a nice fabric, though, too!

    ReplyDelete
  128. Well, I can't get behind those who say the J. Crew merchandise is poor quality. Or too young. Hate to confess, but 40 was a while back for me.

Just compare it to anything in its price range, like Banana Republic or Ann Taylor, and it outclasses all of them for fabrics or cut.

That said, the new (on sale, buy 1 get 1 50% off) straight leg trousers from the Gap are good quality, flattering cotton khakis. They run smaller than J. Crew's. A 2 in these is pretty much equivalent to a 0 in J. Crew khakis. The "mission tan" color looks sort of like the burnt moss in J. Crew's last year bermudas. The inseam lengths for Regular are shorter than J. Crew's by about an inch or an inch and a half. I'm always a "short" in J. Crews but more a regular in these. The pants are cut with a straight leg, very slimming to short people!

    ReplyDelete
  129. On the melody dress - I love the fabric, but the fit isn't right for me. I have a large bust (C) and slight shoulders, so when I sized up for my chest the shoulder part slips right off.

On the other hand, the syndey dress fits well and so does the golden roses dress.

Plus I think the style works for the younger woman not not someone in the late 30s or 40s.

  133. Jacqui, the Aubrey ran TTS for me. I normally wear a 4 in J Crew jackets and that's what I tried on in this piece. It definitely isn't a snug fit jacket, but in my normal size it fit as it did in the photos on the Web site... Good luck!

  134. Speaking of dresses, has anyone ordered or tried on the Stretch Cotton Sateen Daphne Dress? Can anyone share a review? Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  135. Last time I order items during 20% off promo, J.Crew canceled my order. But after 20% off promo finished, the same item was restocked. So I ordered it again at higher price than the price with additional 20% off. After I received the item, I wrote email to J.Crew to ask price adjustment because it was not my mistake, but J.Crew’s mistake. J.Crew adjusted the price and I got refund.

  138. I caved and bought some beautiful chiffon shirts. A little pricey, but didn't want to risk the chance of it running out in my size.

I think with the recent trend of celebrities wearing J.Crew the company will definitely make sure not just anyone can own J.Crew. I feel the company wants to retain a market of people who can and are willing to spend.

I am not sure if I am someone who can afford to buy J.Crew clothes, but I am more than willing to do so. :)

  139. suilove, I have last year's silk pop on mini - it has elastic just in the back and it's not that noticeable. Actually kinda nice that there are no zippers to snag and it provides a little ruching (very very minimum).

Got it for $30, sz 0 in the purple that was in the catalog/model shot, and think the other colors were around for a while at $25 so these may go on sale a bit more.

    ReplyDelete

  141. How do Jcrew flats run? I'm usually a 9, although I take an 8.5 in Clarks & Kenneth Cole Reaction, and also have a couple pairs in 9.5 and 10. My feet are flat and wid-ish (I don't normally buy wide with shoes, but they are def. on the wide side). Shoes tend to be too tight in the toebox for me, as the front of my foot is widest. Would you recommend a 9 or a 9.5? Thanks so much!

  144. "I Just Can't Get Enough"... cashmere turtleneck in bright papaya, fave fit chinos in dark slate, and fave fit stretch cords in aubergine all for $111. Plus my educator/student discount on top of that, whoo-hoo!

FYI: I have placed three orders with this extra 20% and already had that discount applied to two of them. So they are allowing the student/educator discount on top of the extra 20%. This adds an extra incentive making final sale quite the deal.

  146. Laura,
I certainly don't think that wanting to combine codes is an unreasonable request! :) Just this week, I purchased an order on the Old Navy/Gap/Banana Republic website and was able apply multiple discount codes AND shipping was only $7 for unlimited items. And recently Talbot's allowed me to combine a 20% discount and use a 15% Talbots credit card discount. I definitely feel those stores are showing that they appreciate my business, while J. Crew is focused on the snootiness factor and on elevating themselves to appear to be out of reach for the masses (e.g. recent focus on Robin's Red Carpet dress, Obamas, new Men's store at Liquor Store in NYC).
I hope that J. Crew recognizes you as a valuable customer and tries to make things right with you!

    ReplyDelete
  147. Thank you anonymous! The thing that really got me was that I originally wasn't even trying to use two codes. I purchased swimwear which automatically gave the free shipping so I should have been able to to get the 20% off the skirt with the coupon. Unfortunately the skirt became available about an hour after I purchased the swimwear! The fact that they were so opposed to every other option I suggested really was infuriating. Someone previously wrote yesterday that they don't see why we complain and keep shopping. The thing is I LOVE J.Crew clothes (just hunted down and FINALLY got the felt wool mini in black this morning after two months of searching yay...it better ship haha!) It's just that a little better customer service really goes a LONG way with me. I'm hoping I get a response today. I'll keep you posted.

Hi-I posted an email I sent to j.crew on Tuesday regarding the disappointing standards I felt their customer service has reached recently and I know some people were interested in hearing how it went. OK so I was told you CAN use two coupons when shopping under certain conditions: 1. you have to call j.crew. 2. both coupons cannot pertain to an entire order. For example if you have a coupon for 20% off sale and free shipping on orders of $150+ (which I did) you can use both. Or you can use 20% of sweaters coupon etc. but you cannot use 20% off an entire order plus free shipping on the order etc. At least I think that's what they meant haha pretty sure. Also, the woman I spoke with was really sweet and said she felt bad that I had to hold for so long without any end result. She actually located the skirt for me I originally had wanted to buy online in a store & is having it sent to me with the 20% off b/c it's final sale. Definitely way to go for J.Crew…restoring my faith in their customer service!

  167. The only semi bad experience I have had with JC items I purchase is piling. Well really I have this problem with most items no matter where I purchase if the fabric is wool and has constant friction/rubbing.

  168. I just got an email that I CANNOT combine student discount with the 20% despite just doing so in an order 3 days ago. I would not have ordered so much if I knew they weren't going to let me do it. I am livid. Jcrew really needs to be more uniform in their policy. Either apply it or don't but don't do it sometimes.
