J.Crew Email: In stores only. Up to 30% off. Spring Break Event.

"Thanks!" to many of you, including Elizabeth, Lesley & Marietta, as well as HeidiG, Beth, & Anon at 8:20 AM (in this post),who let us know about J.Crew's recent promotion.

They are offering up to 30% off "tees, shorts, and flip-flops" for women, men, and kids. The only catch: this promotion is in-store only. ;) It is also unclear how long this promotion will run.

Will you take advantage of this offer? If so, please share! :)

  1. From JCA reports so far, this seems to be a bit of a bait to get people in the store. Once in the store, there's not much on sale, and what is on sale is UP TO 30%. Not all of it is 30%. I'm sure lots of non JCAs wil fall fall for it and end up buying stuff that's not on sale. This is basically a roundabout way of getting shoppers into the store to see the new releases. The timing is spot on, and I'm sure they'll sell lots of non sale merch.

  2. Out of curiosity I have just called my local JCrew to see what's on promo; SA stated that the promo is UP to 30% off(meaning it's less then that on many items) and mostly includes basics (tanks, painter tees and such). Seems like pretty spring tees ( zebra, bugs, fishes, and such) are not a part of the bargain.

  3. If the 5" chino shorts are on sale, I'll bite.

  4. Does anyone know if the slub ruffle tees are included in this?? They just came out, so I doubt it...

  6. SS - No the slub ruffle tees are not on sale. I did purchase one in navy and white in S, normally wear a M. Think I will be keeping the navy. The white seemed a little to sheer for my preference. The ruffle is sweet and seems smaller than the pic on website.

  8. Anyone know if the railroad shorts are on sale? (They look like seersucker). I live about an hour from B&M but I just got them in the mail and if they're on sale I might make a trip down this weekend to price adjust (I paid full price because they were almost out of my size).

  9. Also, I probably will get yelled at for this, but has anyone had any experience returning something and buying it back? I bought the Aubrey Linen Jacket for 80 and a few days later it went down to 50. I didn't have time to make it to the store (an hour away) to price adjust, but would they let me return and rebuy since it is still new and I haven't removed the tags?

I wouldn't normally do that but I haven't worn it and it's a big price drop.

  10. I just return the item and have my sister or friend buy it for me.

  11. My store had not even seen this promo but did show me a list of things newly on the "up to 30% off" list. Nothing exciting at all.... and the mall was dead....

  12. There is no reason you shouldn't be able to return something and then buy it again.

Also, I was in the store today and was dissapointed in the sale - really just saw plain tees on sale.

  13. I plan on visiting a b&m next wk so I'm glad there is at least one promotion going on(I was hoping for a % off).

If nothing else I'll stock up on favorite tanks because I *love* them :)

  14. I went to the store after work and the only things on sale were a few men's winter items. What a disappointment. Not even a sign in the front window. :(
I would have been better off going the the web site and checking out the sale section.

  15. Well, I think everyone should go this weekend! I had the best experience...I was in the dressing room trying on clothes and my SA knocked and said he wanted to show me a zebra tee. Turned out to not be the white/orange zebra tee or the bright orange zebra tee,but THE GRAY SEQUIN one in the lookbook!I almost snatched it from him! Then I got a 15% discount plus my Teacher's discount--I paid $57 instead of $68.I also got the white matchsticks for only $66 from $98!

  16. I'm Anon 7:22 and I am telling you it happened just as I stated. Those with teacher/student discounts will verify that they usually accept those discounts on top of store discounts.
I am so sorry you are such a bitter person,Liar! said (the name says it all).

  17. Sorry about the confusion. I am Anon7:22 and a person named "Liar!said" responded to my original comment in a very impolite manner. That is why I sent the second comment, if you're wondering what I was responding to. I guess that comment had been deleted, which it should have been.

  18. Not much on sale. And the new stuff is HUGE! Seriously. I went in looking for the pique knit dress with the u-neck with the ruffle. Fabulous colors but its HUGE! The u-neck was so deep that I would have to wear a tank top with it. The arm holes were huge too. No point in buying it. I am a 0 so there was no way to size down. So if your looking at this dress size down. Also the slub cotton ruffle tee is also running big. So if you can order down or don't order at all.

  19. jj -about price adjusting
you don't have to make it to a store to do a price adjust
even if you bought something in a store, if you call CS within the 7 days they can give you a price adjust over the phone.
that would save you from doing a shady thing like returning and re buying :)

  20. I'm nowhere near my spring break . . .

  21. Anon 8:58 PM - Thanks for the info. I liked that ruffle slub tee online and now I know I probably can't wear it...it just doesn't make sense business-wise to size out a part of their clientele. I guess it's a good thing since my wallet will be happy.

  22. Returning and rebuying isn't shady - I was once returning an online item because although I liked it, I didn't like it as much as I liked $150. The store manager was processing my return, and he OFFERED to resell it to me at a lower price. That was my first experience with returning and rebuying - it was totally his idea.

That said, they should be able to do it over the phone to save you the trip to the store.

  23. I have returned items to the store and explained that I later found the item online for less, or at an extra % off. I have never had a problem--in fact, the SA typically says "good for you!" or something like that.

Once I was returning something bought online and the store had it for less. They said they could not price adjust on the online item, but I could return the online item and buy the one in store.

(just found your blog a month ago and I adore it! Keep up the great work!)

  24. Hi I received a pencil skirt as a gift & I don't have a receipt and the tag doesn't have a price on it (looks like it was ordered online. Anyone think I can return it to the store at Chicago Michigan Avenue.

  25. Has anyone noticed if the railroad shorts are in fact on sale in the stores?

    ReplyDelete
  26. I do not have a B&M near me so (sadly) I will be unable to take advantage of this promo. One which I have been waiting to see online!

  27. they have the gray zebra tee here at chgo michigan ave.

  28. Gimmick with the UP TO 30% off. Anony@4:35 is right!

  29. I was able to get a price adjust on the keegan jacket three weeks after I purchased it. I asked if they could do it beyond the seven days or if I had to return it buy it again. The SA said she could price do the price adjust because they had a good supply of the coat still in the store.

  30. I went to the Biltmore Village b&m today (asheville NC) and was really excited to see all the new roll-outs. The new graphic tees did NOT impress me though. The one I was really excited about, the Tissue Spring Flower Tee, was also disappointing as it was pretty dang sheer. I tried on the navy, and you could see my bra through the navy part and my skin through the white flower part. Ick.

I loved loved loved the Gateau skirt. Very cute. LOVED the tissue ruffle cardi too. Went in excited to try on the scalloped tank, but it wasn't for me--it made me look too linebackery :)

I walked away with a white Wendy skirt (i got them to match the $29.99 online price) and 3 painter tees. Nothing special, but it was all i needed.

**Oh, and I found 2 Target pearl necklaces at the asheville store. See the most recent posts for more info**

    ReplyDelete
  31. I went to JC to see which tees were part of sale. I was looking for the rosette tees (which I found out were not part of the sale.) I bought a couple tees including the natural rosette (they were out of the shell.)

Speaking of target necklaces... I also went to JC to return a defective chipped primrose bracelet I received (I didn't want to pay for the return shipping) & a skirt I received as a gift. Instead I bought the pearl cluster necklace & the dangling pearl cluster bracelet. They are beautiful!

However I stopped at Bloomingdales while I was there & Carolee jewelry line has 3 different ones just like the one from JC for $95 silver with the pearl, gold with the pearl & one with the gray/silver pearls. Wish I had found them before I went to JC or even better had I found the one from target.
I also saw the grey zebra tee at the Chicago Michigan Ave. Store and a few giraffe shorts & sweaters. No big sale most of what I bought was regular price although I used my 10% email promotion discount.

  32. jj-

Railroad shorts are full price in store (you can always ask for price adjustments!) I bought some today for full price. Only two sizes are left - 6 and 12 at New Haven, CT.

  33. Is the rolling ruffles tissue on the extra sale?

    ReplyDelete
  34. The rolling ruffle tank is still FP.

The promotion was really disappointing. I have tried on the grey beaded zebra tee and although I liked I didn't feel like spending $68 on a Tee. The other new Tees were nothing special. I also tried the pavilion dress (the reason of my trip) and as another JCA already said, my boobs were completely exposed and it's VERY short. It is more of a beach cover-up than a dress that you can wear for a stroll in the summer. What a bummer, the color was beautiful (I tried the orange).

The item that I liked a lot and ended up bying are the cocktail capris. I had already tried them on last week and found them enourmous (I usually wear a 0) but I decided to give them another try. I found out that the chambray were as big as I remembered them (really, I was floating inside) but the solid ones are somehow more fitted and I bought the charcoal. If you plan on buying them online, you should definitevely size down (the have a 00 online and I will try to buy a pair in the pretty pink chambray when they go on sale).
    Hope this helps!

  35. AppGal,
How was the fit on the gateau skirt? It wasn't at my store so I couldn't try it on, but I loved it in the catalog and lookbook.

    ReplyDelete
  36. jaymie: I normally wear a 4 in skirts, and i tried on a 2 and it fit great. it sits lower on the hips but is really full so you have plenty of room. i found the shape to be a little more "out there" than the pic online shows--it poofed out a tad bit more, in other words. it was soooooo adorable (i even did the dressing room twirl), but I think i'll wait till it goes on sale.

    ReplyDelete
  37. If you phone and ask for the measurements CS will tell you the Chambray Cocktail capris are an inch larger than the Summerweight Cocktails. There was no need to size down.

  38. I went to the marlton, nj b & m with the intent of finding some basics on sale, per this email. I didn't find anything on sale enough to buy, but I did get the gray zebra sequin tee before they sold out from under my nose! There were 3 when I came in the store, and they were out by the time I left. It was a good purchase with my student discount and rewards card. They also had giraffe shorts, sizes 4 - 8, if anyone is still interested. No extra % off, though.

  39. Heading to JC Michigan Ave Chicago will check to see if there's anything in particular there everyone is looking for. Post and I'll check...
