Weekly Share: Other JCrew-like Retailers

This is the weekly "Other JCrew-like Retailers" post (similar to the "Off On A Tangent" posts), where we can share our finds from other retailers that have offerings similar to J.Crew (like Anthropologie, LE Canvas, Gap, BR, Talbots, Ann Taylor, and the like.)

If you have recently encountered items that are similar to J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including experiences with certain merchandise pieces, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. Last week I mentioned ordering the Ann Taylor flannel jogger pants in grey and black. They arrived and I'm happy with them. The black were unfortunately sent in the wrong size and had to be returned. The paper hang tag had the correct size. The cloth tag sewn in the back was correct, and about 4 sizes away from what I ordered! Ann Taylor customer service immediately sent me out a new pair and I popped the other pair in the mail with the return label. Great customer service.

Now on to the pants. The flannel is wool and polyester. I am quite a polyester hater normally. I think in this case it will serve several purposes. First, they are not lined and not itchy. The poly smooths the wool a bit. They're light weight, and they're not going to wrinkle badly. Lastly, I'm planning to wash them on delicate/cold cycle even though the tag says dry clean.

Fit is large, size down one from your normal Ann Taylor size. They come in regular, petite and tall. I ordered regular and have the ankle length shown on the model. They're the perfect combination of fitted and slouchy so I can see wearing them to the office with a sweater or silk blouse, and with a sweatshirt and flats on the weekend. I love the side pockets. There are back welt pockets which makes them look more tailored. Right now they're 40% off so you can get both colors for just over $100. Highly recommend.

    1. Thanks for your review Desert Flower! I had been eyeing these in grey but I'm afraid they are a little too dark for what I was looking for. Online they appear almost charcoal - do you find the color is true to what is shown online? TIA!

    2. Violet, I think they are pretty close to the color you see on the website, at least on my monitor. I wish they were a bit lighter but I like the color. It's one of those "melange" colorways which means it isn't solid.

  2. On a separate note, I'm looking for nice fitted white button downs and would love recommendations. I have five Victoria's Secret cotton/spandex button downs that are beginning to show age. I like J. Crew perfect shirts but would like to know if anyone has other options to share.

    1. I am in the market for new white shirts too Desert Flower. I may try Banana Republic as I have rewards to use. I think they still have nice low wrinkle, mostly cotton shirts.

  3. The Kate Spade Surprise Sale is on (you have to log in with your email and zip code). I ordered the Cove Street Airel bag in pillbox red. I was thrilled to see the red color offered because I have this same style in a dark camel color and love the size and utility of the bag. IMO the price is very good: $169.

    1. Hi. Do you know if the pillbox red is a true red or more orangey-red? Thanks so much!

  4. I gave Reformation a try the other week, and have a review on my blog here.

Also tried the Bento Box from MM LaFleur - it's similar to services such as Stitch Fix, in that they send you a box of clothing, but their clothes are designed for wearing to work. I recommend it! Review is here

  5. I shared a bunch of less spendy alternatives to J.Crew and other retailers on my blog yesterday: Shop It: The Real Deal or The Real Steal. Some really great look-a-likes out there now, and most are on sale, too! :)

Amazon is running their Black Friday Deals week again this year...lots and lots of great gifts at awesome prices. I do a lot of my shopping at Amazon, including Christmas gifts, birthdays, etc. I've shared more info here: Shopping Simplified: Amazon Top Black Friday Deals .

  6. I purchased the cashmere turtleneck poncho from Ann Taylor and it arrived today - it was 50% off, I ordered the charcoal color and for $120 I am very pleased. runs xs/s m/l and I ordered a M/L (I'm a size 12) and it is a very nice lightweight cashmere. We'll see how it holds up. I have a few older Ann Taylor cashmere turtlenecks that I love - this isn't as plush as those but being as I get warm easily, I'm ok with this being a little more lightweight and I wanted to try a poncho without feeling like I'm buried in sweater. I'm planning on wearing it for Thanksgiving tomorrow with a striped long sleeve tee, jeans and boots.

  7. Boden's offer this Black Friday/Cyber Monday appears to be 30% off. And that is only on regular priced items, not including the Icons line. Well, okay then. Not super star spectacular, but can be decent if you want something that is close to selling out. I dissected it in more detail at the blog.
