  1. They got me this morning I finally placed an order since a lot of the pant styles I wanted to try are no longer final sale. However I opened up an email that said I could've saved more so I need to call for a price adjustment. J.Crew card holders will receive an extra 40% off sale with CARDSFIRST.

  2. Very bummed that the Collection Chunky Cashmere sweater is excluded from the promo, especially since the promo says it includes items never on sale. Perhaps Collection items are never included in promos?

    1. Collection items generally are never included unless they are already on sale.

    2. Thanks! I never pay attention to Collection items, so I wasn't sure. Looks like today a lot of collection items are included, including cashmere, but not THE sweater I want. Seriously. I did end up ordering it at full-price yesterday, as the color I have my eye on started selling out in the afternoon. Lord help me... I've never spent that much on a sweater!

    1. Fred, I thought about you this morning. "Your" jacket (the multcolored sequins) is available for preorder. For $1100 ;-)

    2. Ha! I saw that and thought the same thing.

    3. Oh, good, I've been hoping to snag a well-priced basic ...

    4. LOL.............yes, it's an overload of buffalo checks.

  4. I don't see much I'm interested in this time around, except for the Shawl-collar long cable cardigan sweater, and possibly the Midnight crystal chandelier earrings. The earrings are very pretty, but I'm wondering how heavy they are. When Jenna wore them for her interview on The Social, they appeared to be pulling on her earlobes quite a bit. As for the sweater, I'm curious about the quality and fit. You can get a similar one from Aran Crafts for less $, and I know from personal experience that their sweaters are excellent quality. Has anyone had the chance to see the J.Crew sweater or earrings in person yet?

    1. I am, however, considering another pair of the Vintage Pajamas, and may get them monogrammed this time around, too.

  5. The 2015 Pocket Date Book is down to $11.49 today after applying the promo. It started at $28. Divide that by 12 months, and it should be priced at $2+ for one month of use. So $11 is still 5 times more than they should be selling it for at the end of November.

In better news, I ordered the waffle tee and the Yeti pajamas!

  6. I'm with WFF on the plaid. Enough already. The sequin jacket? Crazy.

I do like the cable sweater. No acrylic to be found, surprisingly. I don't need that in Arizona. The fair isle tee though? Kind of weird looking.

Okay, I am loving the dolman dress. The dusty cedar looks like a warm, rich camel color and there's actually a bit of a sleeve. I wish it was not double serge wool! If it had been super 120s, I'd have bought all three colors today.

The collection wool cutout back top is gorgeous. Not sure why they say cutout since the back is solid, but whatever. It's still gorgeous. Perfect seaming, minimalist design. That may just make it's way into my cart. It was a bit jarring to see it. It's so un-J. Crew.

    1. I agree with you on the wool cutout back top, Desert Flower. It really is gorgeous!

    2. Agree on the wool cut out back. Beautiful and would be great as a suiting piece layered over a blouse. The cut out back description is strange. I looked a few times and no cut outs to be seen (thank goodness).

      Delete
    3. The entire look they have styled with the top is beautiful. I definitely would not mind having that calf hair clutch, either.

      Delete
    4. I checked with live chat. They tell me the cutout back top is a light wool flannel. She described it as not heavy, and as soft and smooth. We didn't get into why they're calling it cutout back, LOL!

    5. okay that's so crazy. I glanced thru the new arrivals this AM and that top IMMEDIATELY caught my eye and I thought it was gorgeous. When I read the title "cutout back" I moved on and didn't even LOOK at the back. I just thought "oh they ruined another nice top with an open back". crazy that the back is solid! going back to look again----

    6. Love that top. Best item in the rollout IMO.

Ongoing sad trombone about the boot offerings this season. Uninspired to say the least.

    7. For those who ordered the cutout top, did you order your usual size?
I ordered my usual size but wonder if it is very fitted? Thanks! I

    8. That is top is nice. More items like these and less tacky easter colored fair isle sequin covered nightmares. Thank you JCrew. Less is more sometimes.

    9. I also feel like j.crew is obsessing over fair isle/Buffalo check/plaid a little more than usual this year. I was in a store recently and an entire wall was dedicated to plaid/check shirts interspersed with excursion vests (I like those). My boyfriend commented that he thought he was in the men's section.

  7. Not much love for me. The only thing I wish listed is a stripe shirt with sequin on the collar. There are fun Collection pieces but nowhere fabulous to wear it to...and oh must not forget the $$$$ tag! *sad trombone*
I like the Aran sweater, but wish it wasn't a turtleneck.
Also wished the waffle t's came in solid not just stripe.

I ordered the Sloan flats in black/gold stripe with the obi bow, size 5 and 5.5. I've never tried a Sloan before...we'll see how these look IRL, and how it fits!

    3. Wha?! Probably sold out already since it was only $90.

  8. I ordered the crimson tartan tuxedo pants this morning since I got shut out of the blackwatch plaid ones. Also, ordered the cap sleeve sequin dress as I like that it appears to have a waist and isn't sack-like! Also, ordered the Lace Panel dress. So tempted to order the buffalo check sequin pants but fear they will turn into a museum piece. Hmmmm.

    1. I was debating the same two pants but I do have the blackwatch so I took the plunge on the buffalo check sequin pants. I won't get to wear them a lot but I think they will be great for going out and maybe even for work if I style them conservatively....

  9. Hideous, all of it. Well, except the pants, which look spectacular on the models but routinely make me look shorter and wider. Bad bad bad. The only thing I want on the entire website right now is the lady day to replace my one from 2008 that I still wear, but I have no idea what size to order, don't want to order 4 different sizes and get four different boxes. The lady day, even with thinsulate, is a spring or fall coat in Boston. Cannot wear once the temps dip below 40.

Argh! J.Crew holiday used to be the best!

    1. I agree....here in Canada they are spring of fall at best. check out the melton toggle coat...the sleeves are super thin.

      Delete
    2. Hey fellow Bostonian - I wear my Lady Day all winter and usually stay toasty! True, it is cut in such a way that I can't layer underneath it, but I'm usually okay. The wind in the financial district can be brutal though...

    3. Maybe the thinsulate has improved - my coat is from 2008!

  10. A bit OT: I've shared numerous less spendy alternatives to J.Crew and other retailers in my Shop It: The Real Deal or The Real Steal post today. Never ceases to amaze how close the copies are to the real thing these days.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I love those crazy plaid pants but again ONLINE only! GRRR!!! Not familiar with the cut so I'm guessing on size.

    ReplyDelete
  12. IMO....I have to put this one up there in the worst ever holiday roll out. I am hoping everything looks better IRL.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I ordered the collection "cut out" wool top as well along with the stripe obi bow Sloans, collection wide leg trousers in snow (on sale) and the gold cut out ring in the sale section. I'm hoping to recreate the look with the top with the cream trousers and black heels. I also reordered the contrast lace skirt in a size smaller than I originally tried - the one I have in my regular size is a little loose so I wanted to try a size down to compare.

I think I've had my plaid fill and while I like a lot of the sparkles, I always get carried away with that stuff and hardly wear it. I snagged the glitter Elsie pumps on popback last week, those are going to be my sparkle fill for holiday :)

    2. Ordered that top too and the waffle tee in blue & red. Bought a similar style of top last year by Helmut Lang in black and vein when they went on sale. I wear those tops tons. They work great as separates and are very versatile. So, hoping this one works too with the patio wool pant in chartreuse that I ordered when they went on sale. The pants are on UPS truck today, so hope they look great. Saw them on an SA in store and made a mental note to order them.

  14. OT but I had a pair of collection loafers (from yesterday) in my bag that have suddenly disappeared from the site completely. Was I dreaming? I hate it when Jcrew makes me question my sanity!

    2. I was eyeing the cropped flannel pant (E6891) and they too have mysteriously vanished from the website. My size was not even on "only a few left" status yet as of last night. I'm sure they will miraculously reappear at midnight.

  15. I am.a bit surprised by the lack of enthusiasm here, just wondering what the JCAs that are disappointed were expecting? I actually like this rollout (and the last one) a lot and for the first time in forever I keep putting stuff in my cart and then to deleting to bring the $$$ down. The only thing missing from the rollout is a cute holiday tee but then there are so many places to look for those and I am always complaining about short sleeve tees in winter that personally I don't miss them.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Hi Ema - I was hoping for a pretty dress or two and maybe a lovely print. That's what I've been missing of late (okay, a couple of years), although in general I think JC is heading in a better direction.

      Delete
    2. I’m with Ema. IMO, I think that the rollouts keep getting better looking, but they’re still making missteps when it comes to cost cutting - another round of short sweaters comes to mind. It feels like they’re teetering on the edge where 1” in length may make all the difference - it is really saving them that much money if the sweaters end up in FS by the end of the year? There’s no reason that they shouldn’t be able to nail a perfect cable sweater, but they cut the neckline too small and made it too short. It’s like if they get the fabric right, they mess up the cut, or vice versa.

Other than that, I’d say the Holiday rollouts remind me of older ones (with the exception of the lack of tees) - lots of party wear, jammies, chunky sweaters.

      Delete
    3. I also like the last couple rollouts - I feel they are trending in the right direction. (Although, I must disclose that I am a complete plaid addict!) I added a lot to my cart and am also in the process of whittling it down to a less scary $ total. There are still fashion-forward pieces but they are highlighting the more wearable items in the styling, which makes it much more realistic.

My only concern is that while I am finding a lot of pieces I want to try, I'm still only actually keeping about 50% of what I order. (I sadly don't live close to a B&M anymore) The pants especially are an ongoing fit nightmare, and the short sweaters simply don't work on my 5'9 self. But, overall, I'm way happier with the Crew in the last few months.

      Delete
    4. Missing the lovely cashmere accessories - I think I saw one pair of cashmere "glittens," not sure about scarves/snoods/cowls. I can't comment on JC shoes or boots, the last time I shopped for shoes, I was told "these are not the feet of an earth creature" (no, that was not at JC! but the comment did seem to sum up my shoe problem.)

Re: tees - I used to buy the largest size kids' holiday tees, they were slyly witty and had long sleeves. The charging rhino was particularly appropriate for holiday shopping.

I love classic paisleys at Chrisrmas, and I wish they'd repeat the velvet tee.

All of that said, I think this represents a respectable effort. What is missing, IMO, is a sense of merriment.

      Delete
    5. "I am.a bit surprised by the lack of enthusiasm here, just wondering what the JCAs that are disappointed were expecting?"

To look like a fashionable person and not an actual holiday decoration. I don't feel like I'm asking too much. JCrew has always been preppy, but I don't think it's ever been this overdone.

    6. I haven't seen anything in person (or in catalog) yet, but I think it looks pretty nice online.

      Delete
    7. Well, thank you all for sharing. I was curious because this catalog reminds me a lot of 2009-10 which were my favorite years in terms of styling (not such a long ago I admit).
Speaking of Jcrew of yole, I wore a cable sweater from 2004 or 2005 yesterday that I haven't worn in a while (because it became a bit too short over the years but thanks to high waisted pants I can wear again) and after a while I was scratching like crazy and couldn't take it off fast enough. Not everything was good even back then.

    8. Agree with Wellfeedfred on the missing tees. Last year I bought a boy's long sleeve tee that I called the drunk moose--it had a sepia photo of a moose with photoshopped colored Christmas lights strung on its antlers. Also last year, a girls long sleeve tee with an old-fashioned sepia skating scene in NYC. Also missing--taffeta in beautiful colored skirts. Taffeta says Christmas to me as much as plaid does. Some pretty, festive print skirts would have been fun too and a rich paisley blouse or two. Dare I even say, without invoking the dreaded era of 2010, that I miss a ruffle or two? Would love to replace my white pleated ruffle blouse. Can't remember if it was called a Victoria or Francie or something. I do love the red plaid women's sweater, though I noted in my review on the website that it's for the small-framed only. My absolute favorite fair isle sweater of all time is this year's boys lambswool sweater. It's gray with cobalt, fuchsia and turquoise accents. So yes, I think the designs are improving but more in the casual and basics categories for me than in colorful, feminine work and going out clothes.

      Delete
    9. I think I'm looking for richer colors in the classic wool, wool/cotton, cashmere, cashmere/cotton blends. There are too many patterns for me and huge, mis-shaped sweaters (and I love oversized sweaters...just not so many of them!). No particularly cut or style is striking me as classic (except maybe for the wool cut out back top mentioned earlier - and even that reminds me of an Ann Taylor or BR top). It's not that J. Crew is missing the mark every season; I just don't find myself loving as many things. Where as I may have earmarked 10-12 items in the 2008 catalog...now I'm lucky to find one or two things. The things I do find, I love (plaid pom-pom scarf, wool back-zip sweater). My style may have changed too over the years. My closet is much more pared down, so I look for items that can do double-, triple-duty. It could be that when one's closet is full/complete, one becomes much choosier about additions :).

      Delete
    10. I'm totally with Silver Lining when it comes to short sweaters. I usually call or email customer service to give me the length measurement for any sweater now before I order. Sometimes I'm shocked to hear 21" but its described as a tunic vs a crop etc.
There is no way of knowing how petite the models may or may not be so the pictures are not a good indicator. Same with the "hits at hip" descriptor...whose hip?
I don't mind the roll out. A few nice and different pieces for sure. I feel like something special is missing though that should have been there in place of about 50% of the buffalo plaid and fair isle offerings. Enough already. There are other ways of doing comfy casual, and I wish Jcrew thought of that.

      Delete
    11. I am with you on the dreaded "hits at hip" description. I'm 5'9", which is not super tall, but I'm still taller than average and hate having sweaters that are too short. A simple length measurement is all they'd need to include.

      Delete
  16. I am liking a lot lately too. I bit today and ordered the stewart plaid perfect shirt, envision wearing it multiple ways this holiday season. Also got a holly lambswool sweater to try (no blends for me!), and a crosby suit waaayyy on sale for my husband. Tempted to try a few more things. Still intrigued by the super wide legged pants even with all these bad reviews (I'm only 5'4"). And very tempted by the metallic clip silk blouse. I think JC has given us a nice selection of separates for the winter and holidays. Has anyone tried the boys plaid blazer? I am usually a 0 in coats and blazers, thinking of a 14 or 16. But it's not included in the discount right now. Thinking of multiple ways to wear it, and I'm not usual crazy ga-ga over plaids.

  17. Did anyone see the cashmere turtleneck dress this morning with kangaroo pocket? I think it was a pre-order and said it was already sold out but now it's gone and I can't find it on Pinterest or anywhere..."sold out" never stops them from leaving other items up...maybe I was dreaming!

    1. I wanted that scarf too Lauren. Anyone that have any info or an item #? It is probably too pricey though: collection, woven with yarn from the soft underbelly of Tibetan yaks and embroidered with 24K gold. Seriously though I have wanted it since I saw it on the runway.

    5. It could be in one of the Collection stores. My store has the toggle coat shown in the slide #10 bit it isn't online. Even if I doubt it as I haven't seen it at the one where they have the special stuff. I have seen very few of the scarfs shown at NYFW...

  22. WAFFLES! I love waffles in all forms . . . any thoughts so far on the Waffle T-Shirt in Stripe?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I tried it on in store today and it's pretty thin. It has the waffle texture, but without the thickness and coziness of a waffle, IMO. The colors are pretty if you like a thinner tee.

      Delete
    2. Thanks MBaker . . . the thinness is a turnoff, I was hoping for something more substantial before I hit "Place Your Order" on the website. I may put this purchase off and try them in a store before ordering.

      Delete
    3. Ugh, really? I wish I hadn't ordered it now. Why do them insist on ruining the good things they've done well?

      Delete
    4. I tried the factory waffle henley and agree with the reviews - the sleeves are super tight and the knit is thin and chintzy. I'm sure that it would shrink in length upon washing. I could hear the underarm seam ripping as I was taking it off. I got some decent waffles from Old Navy last fall, but the ones I tried this fall are also thin and crappy. Waah!

      Delete
    5. I love my Old Navy waffle tees, bought boys size XXL and they are warm and soft, plus they were like five bucks on sale.

      Delete
    6. Victoria Secret (MODA) made the best waffle tee/henley. If I had known I would have loved it this much, it would have stood up to washing and wearing for 7 years (I still get compliments on it), and VS would stop selling clothes, I would have bought 20 of them. I don't even like long sleeves shirts.

      Delete
  23. Stopped by my store for returns. Someone was asking for a glitter Elsie in 8.5 and I returned them to Short Hills today.
I was hoping to find some of the black trousers but they only seemed to have the narrower leg style. I ordered several pairs of black trousers online, to compare with the wide leg which I love but are a little tight.

Nothing in the store really inspired me, since I got the glitter Elsies, I think the rest of my holiday wardrobe will be fairly subdued. I'd love a black plaid shirt but didn't love the perfect shirt in Stewart plaid on me.

I do like a lot of the plaid pants but I have two plaid pants with matching jackets and my lifestyle doesn't call for more than that!

    1. Speaking of returns, I'll be returning the Collection Graphic Peony Skirt in a size 8 today or tomorrow if anyone is interested in that. Ordered up and it was too big on me.

  24. Nothing from this rollout that I really want to buy, but I do think things have been improving. I'm disappointed to hear about the waffle tees as my older jcrew ones are super comfy and cozy.
I did pick up the Peyton bag in light blush (the smaller one with tassels) and find it to be a nice size, roomy enough but not large like some of my oversize bags. I'll put it away until spring.

  25. The edged lace blouse (marine salt) is absolutely gorgeous. One of my first full priced purchases in awhile. The quality of the lace is superb, and i love that the collar and the cuff are made of a crisp cotton. The inner layer is also very nicely done as well. I would have gotten the navy as well if the threads weren't green.

    1. The one review on JC website suggested the blouse might run large. What do you think of the sizing? It is a stunning blouse! TIA

      Delete
    2. I usually wear 0 in most jcrew shirts (32C) and got this in the 0. It's a bit loose but I think it's more elegant that way, slightly draping when tucked in. I would not size down, but I never wear things tight to begin with. I got so many compliments from random people the first day I wore it!

  26. WAFFLE UPDATE! For some reason, the Reply button isn't working, so this is a new post. Popped into a store to check them out along with some of the jewelry. I'm a go-to Small and this seemed to fit in the shoulders and arm length. Thought the overall length was fine too - didn't think it was too short. I was pressed for time so I didn't have the opportunity to try a Medium. How do I say this . . . I'm not a chesty woman, but this shirt really hugs (and enhances) the curves. So form-fitting at the very least, and perhaps a bonus for some women. I found the weight to be fine - it's a tee not a sweater so I wasn't expecting something super-thick, but it had more heft than Perfect Fit or Painter tees. So Cate, perhaps you will be pleasantly surprised :-)

    ReplyDelete

    1. I had the black watch plaid version from a couple of years ago and I thought they ran small and narrow, especially if you want to wear thick socks. I sized up by half but if you have wider feet you might want to go up more. That's assuming they still fit the same now. Compared to the Sperry, my Bean boots are very roomy for socks, HTH

      Delete
    2. If they fit like the ones at Nordstrom, I bought and returned this year, they run long and narrow. I'm an 8.5 and I tried an 8. The length was fine, but they were too tight, especially when you consider how lined the insides are. Because my feet are slightly wide I didn't know if going to the 9 would have fixed it for me. I never exchanged them and found out though. The fabric Sperry's looked a lot cheaper than the Sorels I also ordered, so I kept the Sorels.

If you have narrow feet you may want to order TTS/order down for half sizes.

    3. Second the love for the Sorel. I have the Tivoli II. They are my favorite Winter boots ever. They are warm, have great traction and are so cute.
I order a half size up to accommodate thicker wool socks.

    4. I also own a couple different pair of Sorels and love them...very comfortable and warm.

  28. Chateau parka, why must you taunt me?! When will you go on sale?!

    1. It doesn't usually go on sale unless it's already February. The only time it might go on sale is when a particular color is not popular..

Who knows though with J.Crew, since this is the second fall/winter season that they've made this coat, the demand for it may not be as crazy as it was when it was first released last year.

    2. I purchased my chateau parka in grey and cocoon coat in sandstone last year in April for $175 and $165 respectively. Clearly well past the season but I tucked them away and were glad to pull them out when the weather turned cold. I know that's not very encouraging but that's how long I waited to get it.

  29. I am liking each rollout more, as well. It's nice to see some of the do-overs, particularly since my size has changed. It's so nice to see most of the drop shoulders and exposed zippers gone. The oversized cuts are fewer as well. The beautiful colors continue to be consistent. I've spent more time in the store this fall season.

I recently mentioned liking the textured metallic-dot dress. Here's the review.

    1. Great review Gigi! This is one of the better dresses this season IMO.

  30. I ordered the boatneck tee shirt in red and navy stripe, the gemma flats in velvet,(hoping they'll be more maroon than brown in person) and the perfect cable sweater in white and navy and the holly sweater in the rust color. All the sweaters were on sale yesterday, only 5 or 10 dollars off, but that means they were eligible for the 40 percent off sale. Looks like today they're back to full price! I also ordered the roxie glitter pumps to try on, they were an extra 40 percent off sale with my card; any jca reviews on how these fit? (does the glitter come off?)
