Seek & Find: Will you visit J.Crew this Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopping by a J.Crew store this weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SALE, or to see some NEW ARRIVALS {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

P.S. I noticed that many of you have already been reporting sale items (and in which stores) in other posts which by the way "thank you!" :) I really appreciate how helpful we are for each other!

  2. Hi! I've been missing from the "crewniverse" for weeks now. Just haven't had time to visit a store or browse online. So I have two wish listed items that went on sale and are sold out in my size online. I'm looking for the washed chambray dress (with the black/white trim) in a M or possibly a L and also for the Lillian patent low wedges in the nude color in an 8. I will watch for pop backs next week but was hoping someone might spot either in her local sale section. Thanks and hope you all have a great weekend!

  3. Off topic but someone (I can't remember who, sorry) wrote about looking for a caftan and being practically ridiculed by a sales associate. I came across this article and thought you would appreciate it. Apparently, you were ahead of the trend. Here's the article: http://nymag.com/thecut/2014/05/how-to-get-your-body-caftan-ready-for-summer.html

  4. I need to return some things soon, so I'll stop by. Probably won't buy anything though (famous last words).

  5. Lauren...HA! Now that's my kind of diet! Hee! I was the person who had the "pleasure" of meeting two sales people who had no idea what a caftan was and proceeded to make me the stupid one. Uneducated I don't mind, but rudeness I can't tolerate. Sadly I've had a few bizarre (and rude) sales people experiences lately. Basically people working with clothing don't know crap about clothing. Don't know fabrics, styles, design, cuts, how anything fits, etc. etc. I've had a person wanting to argue with me about exactly what length a "midi" skirt was (umm....I wore them in the 70's and 80's and this kid was about 20 years old), I had a saleswomen off handily tell me that a "good" bra would "fix" a bust line that was too big for me. Rude and incorrect. Only a good tailor good fix that problem. Or a plastic surgeon. I've been threatened that if I didn't put a item on hold it wouldn't be there when I came back for it. This tactic really makes me mad. If I REALLY wanted it, I would buy it. I understand that retail sales are taking a beating, but courtesy and good old fashioned customer service would go a long way to getting me to release some dollars from my wallet. Rant over. I'm going to put on a caftan and relax. And eat something fatting.

    1. Straycat,i had a really bad experience last week too at jcrew. The SA was rude and i thought very uneducated too.
I had bought the charmbracelet with the coral charms two weeks prior for $22 ( original price $78) and the color of the coral charms is coming off after wearing it three times. The SA told me that its only costume jewelry and "you dont expect it to last forever,do you". She said to just take a sharpie and paint on the white spots. I literally didnt know what to say:(

      Delete
    2. Ina that is horrifying. I'd write to corporate - surely they don't want their SAs suggesting to customers that their jewelry shouldn't be expected to last long & to color it over with a Sharpie!! (Next for Winter '14 - J Crew Bejeweled Sharpies, only $29 a pen.)

      Delete
    3. Ina, I would definitely contact customer service. They have helped me when I've had bad experiences at the SA level, and seem to be trying a little more with customer service.

    4. eek, I have and cherish the JC enamel "nautical" flag charm bracelet from -- maybe 2006? help me out here, someone -- and the enamel is in perfect condition.

Actually it must be a historical vestige of a bygone era, because this summer I've had JC sales help insist it couldn't be JC. Well, maybe it's not your JC, but it's certainly mine!

I think I'll wear it with my caftan and boat shoes when I stop by Straycat's yacht for that nice snack.

    5. I think i will contact customer service,because even at $ 22 its not a throw-away bracelet.
@tayloradaly LOL at the bejeweled sharpie:)
@wellfedfred. The color that came off was not enamel,i think it was just a painted bead.

    6. Hi Ina, I'd run this by the store manager or some one in corporate. I've gotten much more bold in dealing with this kind of thing (I'm old....seriously it's the BEST thing about getting old, you don't care anymore what anyone thinks and you start speaking your mind....hee). If I'm getting some kind of flack or not getting the answers I need from a SA, I stop talking with them and ask for a manager. It's the managers job to deal with problems. I'm sure you would have gotten a better response. If not, then go higher up the food chain. No retail store can afford these kinds of stupid antics....they are all struggling with sales. Seriously, the consumer holds all the cards now. Speaking of cards.....Bunco and Caftan party at 4 on the yacht today....nosh and swig provided!

    2. Anthro Blogger, I bought a pari of the Citrus Line Sevilles a few weeks ago for $19.99 after 50% off sales items (so $39.99 sales prices) at the Michigan Avenue store in Chicago. I think the black Sevilles are more expensive right now as RCB noted, as they just went on sale.

  9. Canadian JCAs, sale stuff will also be shipped out this weekend. I stopped by today and bought a navy Tippi for $20 after discount. They were marking more items down while I was in the store, but I didn't bother asking or checking prices. The SA did make a comment about the store practically giving items away. Lol.

  10. I went to do some returns today. There were a few very interesting pieces instore from the new collection: a parrot Tshirt, with studded detail, a merino ribbed sweater, which I fell hard for, the distressed boy jean. I tried on the Harper scalloped flats: they are gorgeous but were a full size too big on me. If you size up for Valentina flats, you will be fine in your regular size in these, I think. At any rate, order two sizes to try on!

  11. Went went to the Collection store in my area and found the CALIFORNIA POPPY BLOUSE a7938 on sale. This is the 100% silk tunic version, not the more flowy, less expensive, cotton one that is still around. I had wanted it even at full price but sold out so quickly I missed out. Lucky for me it was my size and regularly 188 down to 59$! I feel like I scored and because it's silk, and has some navy in it that I can play up in my outfits, I will enjoy it into the fall.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Did you find it true to size?? TIA.

      Delete
    2. I am usually a 4 in blouses, and took a 4 in this one. So I would say true to size. I find if I ever have to size up in jcrew tops, it is because of the upper arms being snug, though I don't find that as a "problem area" for me and it never is an issue in non-jcrew clothing. This top was fine in the arms.

      Delete
    3. Ooh-I hadn't noticed that blouse-gorgeous! Was the $59 before or after 50%, if you don't mind me asking? Appreciate the heads-up--and congrats on your great score!

    4. 59 was the final price after the sale reductions and the 50% off. It was 188$ regular price.

  13. Btw the excursion vest in herringbone is now at the Halton factory store. The factory dog intarsia knit sweater looked cute and really nice quality at the store. I'm not one for sweaters with animals etc on them, but, just wanted to call it out that it looks really good IRL and almost swayed me.

    1. This is OT, but I just received one of the Factory herringbone vests and am hoping to sell it--bought it final sale so I can't return. It's an XS. Email me at brady.jl@gmail.com if you're interested.

    2. For what it is worth, you should try to call them and see if they let you return it for a refund. It is not final sale now. Also when the roll out happened online I called them. There were a few new roll-out items on the regular jcrew site that were listed as final sale that I was interested in. When I emailed them about why, they removed the final sale and apologized, saying it was a computer glitch. As long as you don't try it often, I think they will let you return the occasional final sale item, if you are really unhappy. Call them first.

  14. Canadian JCA's...I had two coupons on the inside cover of the lastest style guide. Each were for 20% off with free shipping and returns ( its the free returns that got me)
I ordered the white endless shirt and the japanese crepe blazer in navy. They both turned out to be slightly cheaper than if I had purchased in the U.S.
I have used one and the other has been claimed.

  15. These have been in all the catalogues I have been getting with my online orders since early spring. I think they continue to run them to entice us to keep ordering online. Apparently there have been many complaints about the inability to return online orders to canadian stores and return shipments being at our cost (usually +15$ to return an online order to the us if you want tracking and the peace of mind that it will get there in time). It's a good compromise I guess until they make online returns easier. Their competitors like Banana and Zara seem to manage them, not sure why jcrew makes returns such a challenge for Canadians.

    1. Wow! I just went to see for myself. What condition are the items in you think?

      Delete
    2. That is the question! I will say that on a couple of occasions I've received FS items in less than pristine condition and have never had trouble returning, which is easy for me as I have 3 retail stores within 10 miles. Just make sure to call the website so they can indicate authorization to return on your order.

I ordered the leather mini skirts -- at 16.5 inches, it's not too short on 5'2" me. I'm so glad the website had reviews now -- I had never seen these in store nor have I seen any jca reviews. I am a 2 in pencil and 4 in higher waisted skirts -- based on reviews it sounds like this runs like the pencils.

  23. Since we're talking service, etc. Get this....Recently,I placed an online order from Anthropologie. The mailman (it came by USPS...GGGRRR) doesn't leave it on my porch, but leaves me a notice to go the the post office to get it. WTH? So I go, wait forever in line to find out there is POSTAGE DUE on the package. I say "Impossible. They charged me shipping!" Postal worker tries (in vain) to explain why....explanation didn't mean a thing to me....I pay the postage due then call my local Anthropologie. I explain. And I explain again. Response of repeated claims of "I've never heard of this happening before". I say, well, you have now. She tells me to to call Customer Service. I call, explain again. The response I get angers me to no end. The customer service person was so baffled and so stupid that she asks me "do you usually have to PAY to get packages from the post office?" I say "Of course not, unless there is postage due!" I say "do you understand what postage due means?". At this point she tells me she is going to talk to a manager. I say that I'm trying to tell her that they are obviously have problems in their shipping department....why am I bothering??? She returns and tells me she will refund the amount to my credit card. GAWD. I'm still shaking me head over this!

    2. That's bizarre-I wonder if it was shipped from a store (still shouldn't have happened). I just received a pair of shoes from Anthro, shipped from a store, thrown in a bag (no box), wrapped in a couple pieces of tissue. They were smushed flat and were both floor samples :/ I emailed Anthro a few days ago; haven't heard a peep. J Crew definitely shows them up in the CS department.

My order arrived quickly and then the next day I got a gift card for the amount of the shipping ($7). I didn't have to call or do anything - great customer service on their part. I will also say that I really like Athleta items and they have a superb return policy - "give it a workout" and return if not satisfactory.

  26. Stopped by the Sherway Gardens location - sale section is so tiny (maybe because it's a newer store?). Managed to get the hibiscus print shorts for 25$. There were a couple of the twist back dresses left, a bunch of the paisley eyelet tees, as well as some coloured chinos and these enormous tunic sweaters (the XXS was incredibly boxy and the fabric very itchy, as it was an acrylic/wool/linen/alpaca blend). Can't remember much else.

Tried on the Turner pants in 0; sized down, as per many other JCAs. I'm about 5'2.5" and the regular length worked for me, but I would probably order the petite for an ankle length pant. Super bummed that the floral print ones are 20$ more expensive in Canada!! Will def be ordering those online, as they are the same price as the solids. Ended up buying the Chelsea rain boots in leopard, and used my sister's student discount ;)

Speaking of, one of the associates asked my sister for proof that she is still a student. Then she gave the whole "one time courtesy" spiel, since my sister had no such documentation on her. Has anyone else had this happen to them? It was the first time one of us was asked that, and I thought it was kind of strange

    1. Greetings Pathos . . . I believe that the merchandise gets shipped back to the distribution center, and a lot of it makes its way into their Clearance locations. You may see some surges in the website's sale section. An in-store SA was encouraging me to visit the Lynchburg, VA clearance location. Unfortunately, it's just kind of far(!), and I'm concerned I would buy a ton of stuff because it's marked down so much. Then again, that is the point, right? Cheers - Jennifer
