"Looking to VENT" with J.Crew

This is the weekly "Looking to VENT with J.Crew" post, a place to share our not-so-stellar experiences with J.Crew.

If you have recently experienced a frustrating situation with J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including poor experiences with purchases & orders, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  2. Maybe this is less of a vent and more of a curiosity. I needed a cardigan the other day and forgot {I know, too many cardigans} that I had an old Jackie that ended up being the perfect color. When I went to iron it I noticed that the interior placket was not curled like my other ones and the bottom band had no puckering when stretched like my others. The date tag said Holiday 07. I looked at my newer ones, which have the same composition of materials, but they curl and pucker. What is the difference? Is there really a quality difference in cotton/spandex etc even with the same composition? I'm really just curious here.

    1. Hi TerriLynn - I think there can definitely be a quality difference even if the blend appears to be the same. For example, many old-school JCA's (myself included) had a positive experience with sweaters made of "Dream" yarn (wool/nylon/cashmere blend) when it first came out, but the last couple of years it has been reported that the same blend pills and stretches out and generally looks terrible pretty quickly. Glad to see that it's not around this year (yet).

My '07 navy Jackie is one of the most worn items in my closet, and it still looks nice and has kept its shape. For me, the flat buttons on the older Jackies seem to make a difference - the newer buttons tend to crack or not be sewn on as well. This is where I don't think the cost-cutting (on the basics) is doing them any favors. If the Jackie construction remained the same, I'd buy a lot more colors, but I haven't picked up a new one in probably 4 years.

  3. This is a serious vent. I tried on my newest Cashmere tee, LS tuscan sunflower, only to find it's been jobbed out to a cheaper mill. Now the sweater is about 3 inches shorter, both the body and the sleeves. WOW! Trying to save pennies has made this a cheap version of a nice sweater. I counted 35 of them just now in my closet and comparing the new one it's a cheap version, and a sham on JCrew. JCrew seems to strike a good style and then do their own knockoff in a cheaper version the following season; let's hope that will not be the path of this classic, collectible sweater.

  4. Still annoyed by the abundance of gold Fine Jewelry sold at non-J. Crew price points. It is going to sit in inventory until the end of time at those prices.

  5. Basics. I just want to go to the B&M and pick up a perfect shirt and a pair of 5 or 7 inch inseam shorts to fill in the empty spots in my closet. So frustrated.

    1. UGH. I got my very first "wish we had enough email" for the malta mirror metallic gold sandals. I quickly went into the store and ended up getting a pair but they are 1/2 size too small. They will have to do.
