Weekly Share: Other JCrew-like Retailers

This is the weekly "Other JCrew-like Retailers" post (similar to the "Off On A Tangent" posts), where we can share our finds from other retailers that have offerings similar to J.Crew (like Anthropologie, LE Canvas, Gap, BR, Talbots, Ann Taylor, and the like.)

If you have recently encountered items that are similar to J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including experiences with certain merchandise pieces, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. I did a review of a beautiful Blarney Woollen Mills Aran sweater on my blog here . The site offers some gorgeous Aran sweaters (as an alternative to the Aran Crafts t-neck that's sold out online at J Crew), free shipping and free returns too!

  2. I shared another group of J.Crew-like items on my blog in this post. Included this week are alternatives for the Liberty perfect shirt in June's Meadow floral, Bouclé motorcycle jacket, and Skinny utility chino in camo, just to name a few. :)

  3. I love Boden's Cashmere Off Duty Sweater. I have this in the cotton version but I don't like that one nearly as much (arms are too tight and turtleneck bothered me). If you buy it, make sure you like the very deep side vent at the hem. I don't mind it at all, but it's very deep. The body is a looser/swingy fit but not A-line. I bought this in a size Small and Medium and kept the size Small. The arms are fitted but don't feel tight on me, even with a long sleeve perfect fit tee underneath. The turtleneck doesn't bother me a bit and I hate most turtlenecks. The cashmere feels very cozy and soft. I think there is also a merino version of this but I have not tried it. Sizes have been popping out and in so if you are looking for your size and it's not there, keep checking back.

I also love Boden's Cable Sweater. I have it in Silver Melange. It's 80% wool, 20% nylon. I think I'm going to try it in the Mariner Blue color too. It's meant as regular clothing, but Iike it with PJ pants too. Sizing is probably TTS. I like a size M in J. Crew sweaters and I tried sizes 8, 10 and 12 in the Boden Cable Sweater. I ended up keeping the size 10. The 8 looked fine but felt kind of tight, I wanted a looser fit. The length is good/normal on me (I'm not very tall, 5'4"), the sleeves are normal length. Basically it's like the J. Crew popcorn sweaters, but all the problems are fixed.

  4. I like Everlane's Petra tote bag (the smallest one - I forget what they call it). It's much nicer construction and leather than my similar J Crew bags and it fits my small MacBook (in its own sleeve) plus the other things I need for a workday. It doesn't have any logos or namebrands anywhere. I appreciate products that are attractive and not branded.

  5. Hey, all. Boden reminded me (I had forgotten) that the current *at least* 25% off plus 40% off 40 favourites deal is ending tonight. I don't know if they mean the *at least* 25% off is ending, or if the 40% off 40 is ending, or if both are ending, but something is ending. LOL. :)

Mentioned it at the beginning of this blog post (which includes a link to the sale)here.

I do know that the end of season clearance/sale starts soon, so I am keeping my eyes peeled for that and will absolutely update my blog the moment I know of the switch. Don't know how much will be left by clearance time since so much of their stock sold out this year, but like J. Crew, there are always popbacks.

    1. Their popbacks are kind of nutty, I'm seeing things come and go in the middle of the day. J. Crew seems to only update their inventory in the early mornings. Maybe I'm imagining it, but something I put in my cart was taken out, then it was showing available and when I added it to my cart it was not added/immediately removed, and so on until I tried it a few hours later and the item I wanted was added to the cart so I quick checked out. Not sure if it will ship since it was low stock but we'll see.

    2. I know! It is nutty. I just kind of check items randomly, and sometimes item popbacks will come at 2 pm, sometimes at 6 am, sometimes late into the evening...

I think yours will ship, one thing I have noticed is that their stocks on-line do reflect what they actually have. I think I have had one item canceled on me and considering how much I order from them, that is pretty decent.

Good luck! Which item popped back???

    3. The Cashmere Off Duty Sweater in Oatmeal! It's expensive but I know I will wear it a lot because the gray one I have is one of my favorite things.

  6. I have a vent about Gap...their shipping specifically. I placed a large order (14 items) a week ago. I have received 1 item, 6 others are arriving today in SIX different packages. Half of the order is still pending shipment. I know that there have been complaints here about JC's new shipping policies (ie shipping from retail) but Gap is *so* much worse. I hope JC doesn't end up as bad as this. Gap's saving grace for me is free returns that have always been promptly refunded. The exact opposite of their shipping! Even so, this last experience definitely makes me wary of ordering again.
