J.Crew's Final Sale is Back {boo!}

"Thanks!" to many of you, who shared the following {not-so-great} news with us.

The Grinch strikes again at J.Crew! :( J.Crew has brought back their dreaded Final Sale (click here to shop online).

As far as promotions goes... J.Crew is still offering to take an additional 40% off sale items with code SHOPHAPPY. This offer now expires January 7, 2014.

I checked out the sale section and I did not notice any significant price decreases. So I could get the same items yesterday, at the same prices, with the option to return. But today, no returning allowed. Ugh.

On a related note, many of you have mentioned that the in store prices for sale items are priced lower (before any promotion applied) than its online counterparts. It definitely is worth a visit to the local store, especially since you can see the merchandise before purchase.

Will you be checking out the Sale section? Are there any items you are hoping to see or to get? Does your local B&M have "40% final sale" as well?

  1. as much as i hate FS, there was a popback in sz 0 for the neon tweed dress from months ago that I had regretted not getting. argh, jcrew, you won this time.

  2. Once again I pulled back into the sale vortex. Bowery and Ludlows in oxford cloth; perfect for spring and summer although right now that feels like a world away.

The Ludlows were exempt from the promo but at $79 for what they call navy, but reads like a blue oxford button down shirt colour and regularly north of $200 a good score. But the Bowery pants were the steal at $19, regularly $88 in a pale blue. Both were slim cut and after checking the website both sold out now.

Time to try and dig out of the sale fever!

  3. And what about the new arrivals?! I'm asking my bridesmaids to purchase the new Pamela dress in poppy and it's already saying only limited quantities are in stock.... I'm hoping they can get at least free shipping, but hopefully hold out for a 25-30% off code. Any ideas as to when the next promo will happen??

  4. Site update has a few cute items, but I am also holding out for a promo and larger roll-out after the holidays. My guess is that they won't do a promo for full priced items, till the final sale items are cleaned out! I like the Moonglow Paisley items! Especially the silk tee!

  5. Anyone comment on the collection leather flower tee in terms of fit? I'm a perfect shirt size 2 and usually take a 0 in tanks and tops like these. Thanks!

  6. I got the J Crew Schoolboy (Italian Wool Flannel) in Burnished Rust, Size 0 in store. It was originally marked at $69.99. But, with the 40% off it was for $41.99 and with my student discount, it became $35.69.

I also wanted to see if there was one in Peck Green in my size (since they were both on sale online) for the same price but it wasn't in stock. :(

    2. Sam, I don't know where you are located but the Rockefeller Jcrew in NYC had 3 Peck Green blazers. None were in size 0 though and they weren't marked $69.99 for some reason. I asked the SA to do a price check and they said it was $198.

    3. I saw the peck green in the Northbrook Court J.Crew marked at 69.99 in sizes 00 and 2 today. I bought the schoolboy blazer in grey which was also marked at 69.99 with $35 with the 40% off and student discount. Good deal!

  7. So frustrated as usual about the FS, but what's really bugging me currently is all the dresses with poorly placed pockets that ruin their silhouette, including the crepe racerback, a lace dress I returned with a silk sheer top, and the new misty fog floral shift dress. I'm so reluctant to buy these otherwise adorable items because the pockets just add unneeded emphasis and always stick out. Anyone else annoyed by this?

  8. Was at b&m today. 40% off fs. The selection was picked over pretty good. I picked up a gray pair of ribbed tights, a jackie cardigan in bright coral color, and a necklace. I don't the name of necklace. I tried the red tartan popover, but wasn't crazy about it so I passed on it. I prchased a oatmeal boatneck merino sweater at made well for 30 dollars. They had 40% off again merch eas picked over.

    1. Whaaaat! I just went back to the site and SALEFUN is gone from the sale page. I know what I saw.

Maybe it's a sign of what's coming down the pipe soon. Sorry JCAs.

    2. SALEFUN is for Canada if you change your country at the top. So you weren't seeing things Gigi!

  15. Hello JCAs! For those of you shopping the 40% off online, I've updated the list of Promo-Priced Items and Final Sale Markdowns (the promo items receive the discount but are not final sale). That list can be seen here.

Also for those who may be shopping the Madewell 40% Off Sale, I've updated the list of Madewell Promo-Priced items here.

    Enjoy your weekend! :)

  16. Well, I totally caved and bought the double breasted Schoolboy in navy. With the 40%, it comes down to $60 (the price was marked down to $99 on sale). That seems like a pretty good deal to me.

  18. I stopped by the store to return a couple of things and get one of those theft prevention things removed from an online order. I tried on the mini-bows sweatshirt in small, one size up from my usual. Much prettier in person. The x-small is sold out online and don't want to risk the xx-small on final sale. The store also had the tissue turtleneck tee in heather stripe in gray, which is sold out online.

I also tried on the toothpick jeans in Lewiston wash only because they were marked down to $39.99 before the 40%. These are really small! My other toothpicks are 25, but the 25 in these were super tight. Only a couple of sizes marked down though. I saw a bunch of others but not in the sale section and couldn't be bothered to ask. But I'm curious--do items go on sale only in certain sizes?

    1. Has anyone not received a package they order before christmas yet?
My package was suppose to arrive 12/20 but I still have not gotten it. The tracking on UPS show out for delivery everyday since 12/20. I just sent JC an email but it appears to be a UPS problem? Not sure what they can do. What was your experience. I guess it is sitting on a truck somewhere lost :(

      Delete
    2. I had the same issue with UPS. My package was suppose to be delivered on a Monday and the tracking said, 'in transit'', but it never came. I called J. Crew twice and twice CS told me that it's UPS...they said if I don't receive my package by the next day, I should call J Crew back and they will file a claim on the package. The following day, the tracking said 'in transit'. I called UPS CS and they told me that the package is 'out for delivery' and I will receive it that day. I called UPS CS twice that day just to make sure. They have their internal system that is more detailed. My package DID arrive. I would call UPS CS and have them track it down for you. It might be a wait though. I waited a good 15 minutes before a live person took my call. HTH! Good luck!

  20. Can anyone tell me the in store prices of the military pocket shirt, black & white crinkle boy shirt & the Sabrina coat? I would like to know if they're cheaper than online is. Thx!!

    1. The military pocket shirt was $39.99 at my store before discount. The black and white crinkle shirt was still full price at my store. I'd be curious if anyone has seen this cheaper in their store.

    2. The black and white shirt was still full priced at my store too.

    3. Thx guys! I thought someone here mentioned the other day that the Sabrina in Navy was $149.99 before discount. I would love to get it at that price. I'm going to have to look into that. The military shirt was also $39.99 at my store too but only available in sz. 00.

    4. Jruby18 - Confirming the military pocket shirt is $39.99. Lots of them on the rack at SF Westfield. Haven't seen a cut on the b/w crinkle shirt. I bit on the red tartan popover, $39.99 in-store vs full price online.

I also read the Sabrina in navy for $149.99 here on JCA. Saw the neon papaya in SF, marked the same price.

      Delete
    5. Sorry ladies..the red tartan popover was $59.99 before 40%. I was thinking of a number near the net price, after 40%.

      $59.99 on that one in-store, pre-discount.

  22. Stopped in today and bought the Side Zip Varsity Dress. Adorable and was pleasantly surprised at the length. Above the knee-ish like Martime, not mini length.

Sale section picked over but I picked up a pair of studded cedes for $30. Cece

    1. Oh and the Moonbeam Paisley. I may be in the minority here but I didn't like it. Didn't pass my kohls test. I.e. Would I love this if I saw it at kohls instead of j crew?

      Delete
    2. I will have to use your "Kohls test"--that could probably save me a lot of money! I am anxious to see the Moonbeam Paisley though

    3. Ruffles, did you get the pyramid studded Cece flats? I was quoted a much higher price over the phone yesterday. Last in store price I saw (12/20) was $59.99 & 30% off. Thanks so much!

      Delete
    4. shopalot - I saw the pyramid studded Ceces for $59.99 in-store on 12/19. They don't always look at the info in the register and might be going off the last sticker price on the box -- as we know, not always current.

      Delete
    5. Thanks for reporting back! I'm glad it's more of a Maritime length. Some of the sweatshirt dresses lately have been swim cover-up length.

      Delete
    6. What color did you get in the Varsity dress? Did you like both colors? How did you think the sizing was on it, TTS? Thanks!

      Delete
    7. Hi Cate! I got the black and I found it TTS to a bit roomy, especially in the waist. The heather gray is cute too but it's REALLY sweatshirt-y looking, if that makes sense. I think the black will be more versatile for me.

Shopalot, yes I got the pyramid-studded Ceces. I need another pair of ballets like I need a hole in the head, but I didn't have RED. The Deer Park IL store had several pairs and are doing 40% off sale. They are also stacking the educator discount if that applies.

Muffin, the "Kohl's Test" helps me make decisions often! Sometimes I think I loooove something just because it's a new arrival w a J. Crew label on it, but I know that if I saw it at Kohl's I walk right by :)

      Delete
    8. Thanks so much for the Cece pricing info. It was the educator discount that threw me off. Having a black pair of the studded Ceces sent to me so I'll have to wait and see what I was actually charged.

Ruffles, I am in IL too! Oakbrook didn't have the red Ceces. Would love to score a pair of those.

  23. I also saw the Moonglow paisley tee today. I thought the print was interesting and beautiful. It was a more contemporary pattern, I will admit that I really like color, patterns and textures more than solids most of the time.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I'm also in the minority who do not love the moonbeam paisley top. But, I'm not usually a fan of stronger prints on myself. I feel like they wear me, instead of the other way around. I do think the colours in this are beautiful and cheerful though. Fairview and Yorkdale stores in Toronto very picked over today in both sale and regular price areas. Why does Yorkdale have such awful greenish lighting in their dressing rooms and curtains that don't close well, instead of dressing room doors?!

    1. It reminds me of Vera Bradley's paisley patterns. Not my fave either, although I love the colors.

    2. Cate, I agree. The colors are pretty but the print itself looks very much like a Vera Bradley design.

  25. Question - have any of you bought and worn the Collection Cashmere Chevron sweater (05267) ? How is it holding up? Is it a bad piller? I ordered it last week (so it's returnable) and like the look & fit, but am a bit leery as far as durability.

    3. Hey, gigi and flaminga. :) I went ahead and responded...but I will put my two cents here, too, just in case.

"I love this sweater and think it should stand up to the test of time, relative to other J. Crew cashmere sweaters. It seems very tightly woven and from what I could tell of the few wearings it has had, it hasn't pilled terribly. It does pill, but only about the same as I have come to expect from my Boden and Pure Collection items. I haven't washed it much, but I definitely baby my sweaters, with a gentle hand wash cycle and laid flat to dry. "

  26. Another order today; but I promised myself to slooooooowww down.

Surprisingly none of the four items are final sale and one was even third party but still got 50% off.

I wonder how they decide what final sale is and what isn't?

  29. Went to the vancouver park royal store today. They are offering 50% off sale items. It is final sale. Prices in store are, as usual, much better than canadian online prices. And, there are some items in store that are on sale that are not marked on sale online. For example, Excursion. Vests are full price online but marked at $99.99 in store before the 50% discount. They had quite a few colours and in most sizes. I got the black. The red check crinkle boy shirt is also sale priced at $74.99 before the discount. Lots of bow popovers also marked at $74.99 if I recall correctly. There were also quite a few sale priced items scattered throughout the store and not in the sale section so it is worth taking a walk around and checking the tags. I also wanted to mention that the fair isle leggings in the blue colour way were marked on sale at $74.99 before the discount. There was one in each size of xs, s, m and l. I mention this because I recall a JCA asking if there are any in store. Not sure if that helps if you are in the US but thought is would put that out there. And my final comment of the day: I was in the store for at least 45 minutes and made multiple trips to the fitting room. Not a single sales associate asked me if I needed any help. It was not very busy so no excuses there. It was pretty sad service.

  30. There were new Promo-Priced items and a lot of new markdowns added to Final Sale today. I've listed them here on my blog.
