Seek & Find: Will you visit J.Crew this Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopping by a J.Crew store this weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SALE, or to see some NEW ARRIVALS {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

P.S. I noticed that many of you have already been reporting sale items (and in which stores) in other posts which by the way "thank you!" :) I really appreciate how helpful we are for each other!

  1. For those interested the gold stripe dress got marked down further to 159.99 before 30%. I placed the dress in my cart last night to sleep on it and decided to pull the trigger when I saw the price drop. The dress showed as in stock in my cart but showed as out of stock when I clicked on the product page. The sale still went through and it was fully in stock in all sizes late last night so I can't imagine the dress sold out. I ordered the dress in two sizes and a t shirt. It's strange because two separate cc charges showed up on my order confirmation- one for the dresses and one for the t shirt, the other item. Has anyone had that happen? I hope that doesn't mean they are canceling the dress order. I went to a retail store yesterday and purchased the calf hair pouch and black and white stripe jewelry tray.

    1. Ok, the dress is now fully in stock. The site must have been changing over.

    2. I wonder if it means the items are shipping from different places.

    3. Cate is right. I had this happen on my last order -- each of my 4 items came through as a separate charge on my credit card -- and each item was shipped separately from a different store.

    4. Interesting, I wonder if that means they know when you place the order if it's coming from a store v warehouse. The two dresses were grouped as one charge and the T shirt as another so not each item was charged separately. I guess I'll find out (hopefully) shortly!

  2. I know this is a bit off topic but I was curious about a comment in the Vent post this week. Dina posted that they are no longer shipping from the Lynchburg warehouse and fulfilling online orders only from stores. Dina, if you see this, I would be curious where you heard that, or if anybody else has insight. I did receive a few orders last week from the warehouse so I was surprised to read that. If this is true then that's a big bummer given the number of issues I've heard about with store fulfillment of online orders.

    1. This also came up in another post a month or so ago (maybe someone has the link). It looks like orders are being filled from store stock in addition to the warehouse but it's not consistent. A couple of months ago I had a single order come in multiple shipments, one was clearly from a store and had been stuffed in a bag with a different printed receipt and another came from the warehouse. Not sure how the decision is made.

    2. 312JCgirl - Alexis posted about the new shipping method J.Crew is now using here back in November. HTH! :)

    3. All thanks for the replies! I was aware of the new shipping method where they will draw upon store inventory but I assumed they would still continue to ship some items from the warehouse as well. Dina's post implied they were not shipping from the warehouse at all, which I had not heard. Maybe I misunderstood.

    4. I got a shipment recently with maybe 6 very small thin items (i.e. tees) in a gigantic box. Everything was in fine shape, but it made me think it shipped from a store. This could have been sent in one of their regular thin boxes. The box was huge, embarrassing to receive such a big box for a few small things. Then I have to get rid of the box. Seems wasteful, although I suppose it was what a store happened to have on hand.

    5. They are definitely still shipping items from warehouse stock. I think the new process of using store stock in addition to warehouse stock to fulfill online orders is an attempt to manage inventory better, and not lose a sale if the item ordered is OOS at the warehouse but still available somewhere in the retail system.

I guess the additional processing and shipping costs of store sends must be lower than not getting the sale at all.

    6. I also noticed a few items I received have been shipped from a Salt Lake City warehouse. It's probably set up to serve the Western customers better, which is great. Orders have been arriving much faster from there.

    7. The last two orders I placed shipped the same day I placed the order! I used standard not economy shipping though.

  3. There seem to have been additional markdowns -- items that I hadn't seen on sale before (e.g., Tipped Sweatshirt in Heather Pavement Navy - item 09397, Cece Ballet Flats in Black - item 64408, etc.) now are. That's like two markdowns in one week, no? It makes me think merchandise isn't moving as fast as expected. I can't wait to see their holiday sales numbers.

    1. To clarify, I'm talking about online markdowns, not markdowns in store. The online-instore pricing discrepancies are back in full effect. I'm pretty sure I saw the double cloth tipped coat (item 02467) marked down to $199.99 in store.

    2. Yup - the embroidered top in green plaid (07599) just got its first cut to $79.99 (I just noticed in on my wishlist) - the stripe version went to $88 promo a while ago.

  5. For anyone thinking about using the 30% off promo to buy the Claremont Purse, I bought one (in black) on Monday and sent it back this morning. Pros: Loved the style and the design. I've been looking for a black crossbody with minimal hardware, and the Claremont definitely fit the bill there. It's very vintagey-cool; looks like it could be anywhere from 30 years old to brand new. My iPad could easily fit inside, as well as my wallet, sunglasses, and keys, and the outer back pocket is perfect for easy access to a phone and Metro card, etc. Cons: I didn't like the leather. It felt sort of stiff and waxy, and the bag arrived with some pits in the leather that looked like the bag had been pressed against a tiny metal knob (?). Overall I just didn't get the LOVE feeling when I pulled it out of the box, so back it went.

    1. Same for me, Whitney. I ordered the red and the grey and they're both going back. The leather for the rococo red was nicer than the grey (it is textured like tessuto) but it had some scratches. The leather for the grey already looked worn; just too soft.

  6. I'm looking for the black and white stripe ceramic travel coffee mug (it has a light blue top). Someone posted that the Lenox store in Atlanta still had the mugs, but all the had were the Moroccan-print ones. Can anyone let me know if you see this one if you hit the malls this weekend? kalscdc@gmail.com

    Many thanks!

  7. Does anyone have the Convertible Toggle Coat? I tried it on in the store but I seem to be between sizes. I tried it on in black, but I am interested in the Heather Graphite color (have not seen it in person though, have you?). What is the coat or color like? If you have this coat in any color (or even just tried it on), how did you feel about the sizing? Are you glad you got it or do you regret? Thanks!

    1. I also wanted to see this coat in grey color but my store only had the black one.
I tried the black one in size 2. Most of my coats from jcrew are size 2 exception being the cocoon coat which is 0 so I would say it run TTS but it felt tad bit small to me. It didn't seem that special to me. I didn't like the material that much- my personal preference is the stadium cloth as they are so warm. I also did NOT like the material they used for the toggle buttons and the rope material they used. the fit was fine but I would not even consider it unless it goes on sale in the $130 range. Gigi reviewed this coat i believe. I am looking at the black oversized coat that just went on promo today but i probably would not like the material as my bow coat from last year is the cashmere/wool blend and it's not as warm as my cocoon coat. HTH

    2. I tried the toggle coat too and it fits tts but a little snug. I also didn't like the material the rope on the toggles was made of - it felt very cheap and rough.

    3. ladybug007, I thought the 8 was good until I tried it on with the elbow patch sweater and then it felt tight in the shoulders. The 10 felt good with the elbow patch sweater under it. All my J. Crew coats are a size 8, though, so I'm hesitant about the 10. I will look for Gigi's review, thanks! I agree it's not the most special coat, but the proportions of it looked just right on me. I don't understand why it is priced so high.

snowbrdgrl, I did not love the rope on the toggles either. It was rough. Thanks!

    4. I tried on the black in store and liked it but didn't think it was worth the price. I found a beautiful grey one at L.L. Bean that I liked a lot better. It is very warm! And less expensive. I would recommend it, although they are sold out of a lot of sizes.

    3. Not sure if you noticed, but the blogger was wearing the Wool Cashmere sweater from J Crew, the one you spoke so highly of! I thought of what you said about the sweater when I stumbled upon that particular post. Mine should be coming on Monday. Can't wait to try it on. Are you going to get the Coccon Coat now?

    4. I got the coat in gossamer peach and I think it's more pink than peach - it is the same shade - just a little darker than the pale pink cashmere scarf, etc. It's very pretty!

    5. Wendy, no I didn't notice that! I hope you like it! I am not sure about the coats. I may try the Cocoon because I can't find the Toggle in my size in gray and because I'm not sure about those rope closures.

    6. Thanks Debby! I might try it then, I was hoping it was more of a light pink.

    7. I have the Toggle Coat from the 2007 Winter Season (the yellow one) and the rope closures are not as white as they used to be. Someone on JCA recommended using OxyClean to brighten up the rope. Haven't tried it yet, but now I know what I can do it the rope ties get really dingy. HTH!

  10. Store is supposed to have additional 20% off sale + the 30%

    1. Oh, whoops! When I was in my B&M yesterday the 20% signage on sale was gone and it was just 30% off your purchase. Sale is no longer final.

I bought some jeans and some perfect tees (on sale w/additional 30%). I was going to tear my hair out if it was supposed to be additional % off sale.

    2. My sources are not always correct. I'll be irritated if it's true. Hoping a JCA will let everyone know either way.

    3. Gigi - SF Centre was doing a stackable promo earlier in the week. I stopped by to do a return earlier today and the stackable promo is gone -- it is back to 30% off the entire store. If someone else's store is offering something different, I'd love to know.

  12. I was in the store yesterday, and they said that any item that was subject to the 30% off was final sale. I purchased the crinkle boy shirt in red check and the pajama pant in green-blue plaid flannel. I commented that it's not final sale online, but for some reason, my store always says final sale whenever there is a promotion. Is this true in anyone else's experience?

    1. No, I went in yesterday and the sale items were an additional 30% off, but not final sale. Due to the type of promo, they wouldn't let me use my educator discount on top.. Which is usually a good way of telling if it'll be final sale. If the store let's you use the educator discount on top of the sale discount, then it's final sale... If not, then it's not final sale.

    2. The whole store was 30% off when I was in the other day. There is no way they could make it all final sale.

    3. I called J.Crew HQ, and they said it should not be final sale. I then called my store, and they apologized for a miscommunication by their staff. Only sale items (not promo items) with additional 30% off are final sale. Grrr. Now I have to brave the mall again to finish my shopping.

    4. I just was in store bought a tippi which was on sale, plus 30% off not final sale.

      Delete
    5. The 30% was not final sale in my store. It seems that these universal "% of the whole store" promos at retail and factory stores won't allow you to stack another discount on top, such as the educator's discount. Mimi, they wouldn't let me do it, either :)

  16. I purchased the Everly pumps in metallic trim and it seems J Crew finally fixed the sizing. I wear size 7 in open-toe shoes, 7h in most pumps like the Etta, Mona, and Valentina, but always wore size 8 in the Everlys (silk prints & suede) because the toe box was so tight. However, for the metallic trim pumps, I had to exchange the 8 for size 7h. Anyone else notice the change in sizing?

    1. Yes! A year or so ago I couldn't manage a 10 in most styles but the 10.5 (when available) gave out too much. But lately, I'm totally consistent across the board.

PS I love the way J Crew suede gives out and beautifully molds to the foot.

  19. J. Crew has been shipping really fast lately. I remember they did this last year too right before Christmas. On the other hand, I was in line last week beside a girl returning merchandise that was not what she ordered, so we'll see how it goes. I remember they did a good job with it last year, though.

    2. I have the sweatshirt tcv14. I really like it. I would say it fits TTS and very similar to the Horsing Around sweatshirt if you ever tried that one on. It's very soft and seems to be substantial. The only thing I thought was kind of weird was where the seam is sewed at the bottom because it seemed to make the trim much wider than the other sweatshirts J Crew has had this year. I haven't tried washing it yet, but I usually hand wash anything that I think might be questionable in the washing machine. Hope this helps!
