"Looking to VENT" with J.Crew

This is the weekly "Looking to VENT with J.Crew" post, a place to share our not-so-stellar experiences with J.Crew.

If you have recently experienced a frustrating situation with J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including poor experiences with purchases & orders, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. I hate economy shipping!! It already takes boxes a week to get to the west coast with standard shipping. Now tack on extra days with economy in multiple shipments from stores. Hate it. And I will not pay shipping. I can get free three day shipping from my other favs-- shopbop, nordstoms and piperlime. AND free returns. That's where my $$ has been going lately.

    1. I share your gripe about the lack of free returns. Especially when a lot of (sale) the items I've been receiving from J. Crew (and Madewell) are shipped from retail and are shopworn. I just received a blouse with a giant smear of lipstick on the sleeve. Ugh.

    2. I agree economy shipping sucks. I either pay the extra $3 or include ride alongs to meet the $175 min for free standard. Fortunately I live near several J Crew stores so I can easily return the ride alongs but I understand that that is not an option for everyone.

  2. Why is there never any silver-toned jewelry? They'll bejewel half the store with silver sparkles and gems, but not one silver necklace or bracelet :(

    1. Agreed! I'd like to see some silver as well. I actually wrote to customer service a year or two ago requesting silver. Maybe not enough demand?

    2. I totally agree. I have purchased some items from EBay in black and silver from years past. But even that supply is drying up or is really expensive.

    3. I'm with you on this one too and have been thinking the same thing for years. I also got engaged recently and am snobby about not wearing other jewelry that clashes with my platinum engagement ring. :P

    4. Yes! I hate gold-toned jewelry on myself, it would be amazing (not for my wallet) if they started offering choices in silver.

  4. Is the sale section going to get replinished anytime soon?? I am CERTAIN that there are plenty of extras of the last few roll-outs that need to go.

  5. Why did my order of five items arrive in four different shipments? They could have easily fit in one box. Strange. None of them appear to have come from a store - fortunately, all were in perfect shape.

    1. Me too, cousy. They shipped one lone shirt in a big box (?) & another in an envelope. Both were in plastic though so I assume they didn't come from a store. Still found it weird.

  6. Frustrated that the Blackwatch schoolboy was "so popular it has sold out" during the 30% promo but magically appeared in all sizes the day after!

  7. Annoyed that my "style guide" has arrived at my home for three months straight telling me to visit my local store in Orland Square (IL). Why yes, I'd love to visit. Unfortunately, that store closed LAST JANUARY!!

  8. J Crew needs better quality control measures for outgoing shipments. I received another customer's order yesterday instead of mine and spent about 20 minutes getting everything sorted out because I used my rewards card and didn't want to lose my 10% ebates which was over $50! The CS rep couldn't sort everything out so I asked for a manager who did but still a pain and now I also need to drop off the wrong items to be returned. I know, third world problem, slip ups happen, but I am glad in have this little space in the world to vent to my fellow JCAs who will understand:)

  9. The new shipping is the worst! I live in DC and used to get my packages in 2 days. It's now been over a week since I placed my last order!!! Arghhh!

    1. Why don't you just select UPS shipping? If that is your preference. The difference is $4. Under "account" there is a way to make sure that UPS standard shipping is automatically selected at checkout.

  10. I tried on in store the Herringbone Utility Pant in a 2, it was a little snug and way too long. So with the last promo I purchased in 4P, it arrived yesterday and I could barely get them over my knees. I thought petites were supposed to be shorter but not smaller, very frustrating, was hoping to take on a trip with me tomorrow.

    1. I wear mostly petite size clothing. For J.Crew, BR, Eddie Bauer, Nordstrom, Loft I wear one size larger in petite than regular sizes.

  11. JRS,

Shorts are supposed to be shorter, not smaller. Petites do run smaller at J. Crew.

  12. Do you think the cashmere leggings are really sold out? Or are they just hiding them somewhere? I wasn't expecting them to be a big seller at full price and was hoping to get some after Christmas on sale...Oh well.

  14. Navy striped down vest-anyone else bought this and it smells like gasoline? Like its un-wearably strong smelling. Send it back? Hang it up and the smell will dissipate? Wash it? Help!
