Seek & Find: Will you visit J.Crew this Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopping by a J.Crew store this weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SALE, or to see some NEW ARRIVALS {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

P.S. I noticed that many of you have already been reporting sale items (and in which stores) in other posts which by the way "thank you!" :) I really appreciate how helpful we are for each other!

  1. Nothing for me. I have a few things in my cart waiting for a discount but they're all excluded from the current promos. Also have my eye on sandals from Madewell and Rothy's but both are also full priced and I've never bought Rothy's before so I'm a little hesitant.

  3. All of the items I ordered at $12.99 (petite chateau parka, cocoon, petite cocoon and lodge coats as well as Sophie glen plaid blazer) have now shipped.

The pricing must not have been intentional. People would have snapped these items at up far higher prices. But if it was a mistake, good for J. Crew for honoring the price.

  4. Continuing the purging discussion:
My two older girls moved out Sept and February and the closet outside what i built as our “guest” room has been jam packed with stuff left behind. I had already organized but didn’t go through everything and when my parents stayed over for Easter there was no place for them to put their stuff.
Decided to make that my project since they enjoyed staying here. So far two bags for charity, one garbage and one stuff for me to keep for them or try to sell.
I’m going to bring whatever remains to the spare bedroom on our floor since who knows if they will come back for more than a visit.
Meanwhile that room is full of eldest’s clothes she left (mostly packed) because she only flew with two bags and wants us to drive it down for her.
It’s kind of a strange transition. But it seems crazy to have rooms empty and closets full of junk.
I do not want to use the closets for my stuff. I’m trying to keep all my clothing and shoes in the space I have.

    1. Sounds like a fun project Suz! I stayed away from the fire sale. Initially I was too late to the party since I woke up late that day. In the end, worked out since my winter closet is stuffed. I took the opportunity to clean out my jewelry drawers and donate pieces I don’t wear. Also cleaned my medicine cabinet. Threw out expired medications. Feeels good. 😌

    2. I’ve done a lot of that Too! We renovated two bathrooms this year and husband is threatening to do ours so I took out all my makeup and just put the essentials in the hall bath. I’m known for 10 year old Advil, until I had daughters that is.

I gave myself permission to get rid of several sweaters and tops And the few fire sale purchases I made will replace those.

Trying to motivate to do more today!

    3. Yes, the purging discussion. This morning I dropped off more than I could count (or would care to) at the American Cancer Society's Discovery Shop. It was all on hangers and in garment bags. Sweaters were on padded hangers. I realized that this is above and beyond, but I will be visiting them regularly until I have completed my project. I felt a huge sense of relief.

So, I didn't participate in the fire sale, and I'm done with that. Really. As I was clearing out things to give away, almost all of it was somewhat recent J.Crew purchased during big promos and such. The things I kept are much older J.Crew that looks great still in addition to other things that are high quality fabric and construction from various sources. I need to learn a huge lesson from this sorting process. I sure hope that I have!

As always, I am speaking for only for myself and where I am in my life. I speak only of the clothing aspect here, but there is more work to be done in other areas of my life: china, crystal, silver, table linens, books, etc. I am no longer going to be entertaining like that, and the Queen isn't coming to visit.

I think it was Joshua Becker (a minimalist blogger) who said, "Not wanting it is better than having it." I keep thinking about that.

Thank you all for being here. It is helping me to have this discussion. Bless you!

    4. Mme Jacqueline - that's wonderful. Clearly this process has been empowering for you.

I did participate in what we have been calling the "fire sale". Did I buy the stuff just because it was crazy cheap? Absolutely.

I have read a lot of books that have been cited on this website (Peter Walsh's It's All Too Much, Dr Robin Zasio's The Hoarder in You, Dr. Jennifer Baumbgartner's You Are What You Wear, Anuschka Ree's Curated Closet, and so on.) I read a lot of the mimimalist blogs. And yet, I don't follow through on the advice.

I am lucky in that my spending is well within budget, but this is also what allows the situation to continue.

I am pretty disciplined in other areas of my life (food, exercise, work) so I am not sure why I continue to acquire stuff (mostly clothing) that I don't really need.

Please keep sharing your journey with us.

    5. I participated in the fire sale as well and already regret my first arrival. I said I loved my Alex mill sweater blazers but the Sophie doesn’t fit as well, the pockets are too high, sleeves too short. Oh well, it will find a loving home and I will try to learn a lesson from it.

    6. @MmeJacqueline, I’ve been enjoying reading about your journey. That’s wonderful that you’ve been able to stick to it. I go through phases where I donate a lot and reduce my shopping some but then I seem to buy more and the closet is bursting again. I’m trying to be more purposeful.

@TorontoModern, I feel I’m quite disciplined in other areas too but shopping is my weakness. The thing is I love shopping, it’s fun and i enjoy it. With the pandemic I’ve only been able to shop online which isn’t the same. I know shopping has been retail therapy with all of the stresses going on. Besides clothes I realize that I’ve bought a lot more skincare and hair care during our lockdowns here and I do regret some of those purchases since they were expensive brands.
@Suz, I’m sorry that the Sophie didn’t work out. I like mine but do question the sleeve length.

      Delete
    7. @Toronto Modern: Yes, the purging/shopping ban has been empowering and also a very sobering experience.

I also read the various books and blogs for inspiration, and I take from them what I think will work for me, so I ended up with a blend of suggestions that became my method. Let me just say that never in the past have I been as serious and thoughtful as I am now. I hope that I will not have to do this again (at least not to this extent). The key to that is to plug the jug on shopping.

Like others here have mentioned, I have no other vices, but on self-reflection, this shopping habit felt like an addiction--or at least what I think that might be like. I truly believe that I've hit bottom this time. These were my enablers:

      1. Justification (no other vices; I just love clothes).
      2. No financial hardship, but it's still wasted money.
      3. I had the time, but it's wasted time. It filled time.
      4. I had the space...sort of. I could hide the problem.

It came down to not liking me and this habit. It didn't feel good, and it definitely didn't look good. I cannot honestly say that I truly "loved" these cheap acquisitions. Too many purchases were based on super sale/cheap/bargains that I was drawn to grab up. I felt like some sort of greed monster.

As always, this is 100% about me. No judgment of anyone else for any reason. I am trying to be rigorously honest with myself, and I share that with you.

      Delete
    8. @Jan: I've been through some of this binge/purge cycle before, but this time I have a very strong urge and determination to change ME and the behavior that causes this wasteful situation. The excess has resulted in mostly remorse and very little joy.

We're all in a different place in life, and this is where I am now. It's just all too much and makes no sense when I am realistic about my actual life as opposed to come mythical existence or future possibility or event.

At the same time, I have actually removed myself from some organizations and social situations that I did not value. The past year has given me the quiet opportunity to reflect on that. Sometimes when you step away from something, you find that you don't want to step back in.

Thanks for letting me share my thoughts and experiences here. You have all been very kind, and it is beneficial to me to be able to tell you about my personal journey.

In another post, I'll share my own method that is working for me. I realize it's a personal thing. I cannot do the Condo method because that would be too overwhelming. I did a little bit of "Condo Lite" by season then category. More on that later.

      Delete
    9. MmeJacqueline I’m curious how you approach it. I’ve definitely purged in the past, I like purging! I went through a phase where I got rid of almost anything not black, but have slowly added some color back into my wardrobe.
I’d say overall my biggest issue is not purging, but buying just because, and like you, for some mythical life I don’t have.
Anyway I am still following along and purging in my own little way.

      Delete
    10. @Suz Has: I'll tell you how I've been handling the purge based on my situation, which is that I did this big closet switch twice a year for spring/summer and fall winter. That means that one season was all in downstairs closets and the other was upstairs where the bedrooms are. The switch involved everything except coats, which are all in a coat closet downstairs. There are waaayyyy too many of those, but that's another story. The switch was exhausting because it was shoes (all stored in clear Container Store boxes), handbags, and all the rest except scarves and other accessories. I dreaded the big switch more each season, and it kept getting worse with all of the impulsive promo-driven purchases of stuff that I certainly didn't need and mostly didn't love. I guess it's good exercise to go up and down the stairs that many times, but I would rather take a walk outside.

Okay, so I decided that I would do this purge by going through the upcoming spring/summer seasonal stuff. All winter would go downstairs, I will deal with that in maybe in late September or so.

I am taking it one category at a time. I started with shoes, and that wasn't very successful because I didn't feel ready to part with very many--just enough so that I wouldn't be ordering more boxes from the Container Store. I will be revisiting the shoe issue. I did donate duplicates. Yep, same style and same color--an heir and a spare. Insane!

So, I moved on to pants, shirts and tops, sweaters, lighter jackets and blazers, dresses (not very many of those), skirts, and all types of accessories.

In each category, I chose an item that I love the most, and that became my "gold standard" by which everything else will be measured. It doesn't mean that I have to love everything as much, but I do have to at least LOVE it. My gold standard items I love because of quality, fit, fabric, and how it makes me feel when I wear them. Shoes must be comfortable!

As I look at each item, I ask myself these three questions:

      1. Do I love it? Why?
      2. Does it fit? If not, is it worth tailoring?
      3. Do I wear it? If not, why not?

If I am undecided about something, it will be stored downstairs. If I miss it and want to wear it, then it's still with me. If not, then it might have to leave when I go through fall/winter things.

I've made note of things that I am really just over:

      1. Pilling sweaters that I have to shave. Au revoir to that!
      2. Anything with elastic in the waist. Not for me.
      3. Liberty shirts (as mentioned before). Not good on me.
      4. Shoes that are not great quality. J.Crew used to be.
      5. Large handbags and totes. They carry too much weight.

I'm sure there will be more things as I continue, but I'm done with those things for various reasons. During this sort/purge, I have really paid attention to quality issues. Although I have banned purchasing, when I eventually do, my motto will be "Buy better, buy less."

I have NOT finished this upcoming season. I've only scratched the surface and made significant piles of donations in pants, shirts and tops.

This is my job right now, and I will carry on. I don't expect to get it 100% right the first time, but at least the process has begun, and I am feeling better.

    12. *hangs head* I have the same “heir and a pair” issue too. This includes some Gap oxfords that were so cute but I definitely didn’t need a backup because almost 10 years later, I’m tired of them and I didn’t even break out the spare!

      Delete
    13. @liztriden: I should know by now because I don't recall ever needing or wanting that spare. My pattern is to do that when it's some bargain price. I certainly never purchased an "heir and a spare" of Roger Vivier shoes! This is so telling....

    14. That sounds like a good project, Suz. I think back to when I moved from my parent's house back in 1973. I left stuff behind and my mom never got rid of it until in 2002 we helped her move to assisted living. The clothes in my closet seemed almost like some sort of 'shrine'. LOL. I tried some of the more outrageous stuff on and miraculously it actually still fit me. But, I had no qualms about clearing it all out forever. Now here in 2021, I find myself trying to avoid accumulation. After we had that house fire in late 2018 my wardrobe was pretty much ruined so it was easy to purge the damaged goods. And of course, my favorite things were the things that were ruined, including some J.Crew pieces. I come to this site to read reviews, hoping that J.Crew quality and good workmanship will return one day. In the meantime, I'm sewing my own garments lately and that's been satisfying, too.

  8. I rec'd my fire sale purchases today, and I am shocked to say that I love everything!

High rise full length flare jean, in white and in secret garden washes: These were the only non-super sale items I ordered this week, but for $50-ish a pair, they are worth it. I ordered these in my regular size and in petite (both 26) so I could wear with flats or heels. I love both, and they both fit the same. In most styles (bottoms and dresses) I order one size bigger if I order the petite, but in this one, the petite fits the same as the regular, just with a different inseam.

9" demi-boot crop jean in Blue Lagoon wash: I followed the advice on online reviews and ordered up, and the 27 TALL (I am only 5'2") fits perfectly as full length jeans. Love.

Hayden kick out crop in smooth stretch twill: reviews were all over the place wrt sizing but I ordered my normal size 2 and it fits perfectly.

Garment dyed demi boot cropped pant: also tts.

Garment dyed foundry pant: Only tall was available so I ordered my normal size 2 and since I was planning to roll the bottoms anyway, they are great.

Embellished long sleeve shift dress: TTS, love. I probably wont wear more than once or twice but for $13, that is fine, and I will pass it on. Great buy.

  9. Ruffleneck tuxedo shirt in lightweight cotton poplin
Item AS759. Ordered to replace similar I “outgrew” across the back/chest. It’s so similar to my old one but something about the collar is off. I’m going to try and steam (or wrinkle as I see them on display) but it’s off. And I literally loved my old one to death.

    OTOH pave flower y necklace
Item AU146 Is nicer than I expected! I like it but thought of a friend who often wears this type of necklace so I might gift it to her next time we have a backyard hang. I wish I bought two.

    1. Wanted to report back. I wet the shirt and twisted/rolled it as I expect they must do for display let it sit, did it in the other direction and then hung to dry. It makes the shirt much more casual (which because of the lightweight fabric it is) and it gives the collar a little movement. Much better.

  14. I skimmed the new arrivals, and perhaps I missed anything interesting (to me), which is good since I am on a shopping fast. What I saw looked shapeless, dull, and lacked appealing colors. This makes me optimistic that I will easily make it to my first goal (Memorial Day).

As some of you know, I have been sharing my journey to shop less (not at all for now) and purge. That continues to be a sobering experience, but I am starting to accept that the guilt of excess and waste is becoming an investment in learning and growing out of this behavior.

I continue to plow through the thicket of impulse buys and unearth the thoughtfully chosen items based on love rather than opportunity at a bargain.

This is hard work, but it is good work. I feel as though I am gaining mental clarity. At the end of the day, I write down what I have learned about me and my choices--the questions I continue to ask myself as I sort:

    1. Do I love it? Is it good quality?
    2. Does it fit and flatter?
    3. Do I wear it? If not, why not?
    4. IMPORTANT: Would I buy this again?

    Back to the salt mines....

    1. Mme, I’ve been following your purging journey. Thanks for sharing. I’ve been doing a lot of closet assessment this year as well. I’m hesitant to purge too much because I expect my needs will change after the acute phase of the pandemic and WFH are over, but I’m wondering if I will really reach for high heels and fussy outfits again.

I am finding that the majority of the items I am purging are relatively recent J Crew sale items of low quality that didn’t launder or wear well, but there are many classic and iconic J Crew items (coats, shoes, cashmere, dresses) that I still adore and won’t part with.

      Delete
    2. I seriously cannot imagine wearing high heels ever again aside for special occasions. Low heels ok but I’m avoiding any clothes I feel like “need” heels and just keeping the mostly old crew ones I like wearing.

      Delete
    3. @Ruffles: Thank you for your nice reply. Yes, I would say that the easiest things to purge have been those recent J.Crew sale items. I think I have learned my lesson about that. I am choosing to have fewer things but nicer things. More is not better. Better is better.

Also, too much of my closet clutter belongs to someone else's lifestyle or some mythical version of myself. I am evicting that person who doesn't exist, and I'll be glad when she is gone.

At the same time, I have edited and opted out of various organizations and activities that were not satisfying. I also know that I am no longer going to attend any charity fundraisers (dinner and auction). If I want to support that cause, then I will send them a check. So, I will go out even less than I did before, and I absolutely will not miss it one bit. Frankly, it was boring me into a coma.

If something is high quality, I love it, and it fits beautifully, then it will stay until it doesn't. I'm finding that the more I part with, the more I want to part with.

This shopping fast has been easy so far, and I think it's because confronting my excess has made me feel slightly ill. I can't say for certain that I will actually be a person who has a minimalist/capsule wardrobe, but I know for sure that I will be a much better version of myself.

      Delete
    4. I’ve been trying to evict the mythical version of myself and her wardrobe and accessories for a long time, but she’s a persistent little bey-atch. And in fairness, I have learned a few things from her. (1) If you’ve only got a few days in Paris or Florence or Rouen or Milan, be SURE you wont have to spend any of those precious hours doing laundry. (Real me has gotten stuck over a basin of woolite suds enough) I mentioned Rouen because it has a wonderful old old plague cemetery complete with dance of death scenes. (2) mythical me might be related to my mother, because MM always has a clean hanky and an extra sweater and scarf and a supply of ballpoint pens. Real me forgets to bring them. There might be more hints on the blog later.

  15. I’m on a pant ban, though I like the look of a few and some of the shorts. Some of the tops looked interesting and I am happy to see more linen and cotton and less poly (at least what I was looking at) because I really don’t need to add any more poly shirts to my closet.

    2. This was my thought when you posted the sneak peek @shopping celle. I feel like summer is J.C.’s “season” in which they can go wild with fun patterns, bold color, and surprise love items. And as @julielion says below, it’s remarkably close to items I already have from them.

    3. Yes @Zach and Mere. Where are the fun signature prints that Jcrew is known for?

    4. Agreed on the colors -thinking of that greyish green filter that makes orange look peach - exactly!

And the shapes seem to be the same across a lot of retailers...cottage or regency core, is that what we're calling it? I miss the prints - while I don't mind Liberty I would like some interesting prints.

I have another summer of working from home ahead of me so I'm sure a pair or two of elastic waist shorts will make their way in to my closet and maybe a t-shirt dress. The tiered dresses seem to have another summer in style, I'm well stocked there.
I am also trying to be more mindful of what I add in to my closet after sending multiple bags to donation and three bursting bags to ThredUp (also quite a few J.Crew sale items that didn't quite work)

The camp shorts, button downs, shirt dresses, etc. I *just* bought a J Jill linen gingham button down off posh for $10 that looks almost exactly like the Irish linen shirt in gingham (AY672). Also, funny thing about that item, J crew titled it "slim fit short sleeve..." when it is long sleeve. :P

    1. I agree. Also see very little difference in Madewell, jcrew and everlane. Same colors elastic waist shorts, tanks and shots. Lot of relaxed fit clothes. I do like that they have more cotton options.

    2. Same. And I already have some of the everlane bottoms. Not sure I need more.

    3. yes so true about MW, JC, everlane blurring together! And all the relaxed fit, looser clothes. I know retailers are expecting people to continue with the more casual styles post-pandemic but I wonder if that will be the case? Or if people will say "I'm sick of sweatshirts". (and ha how many many sweatshirts are being offered these days.)

    4. I think the baggy “relaxed” fit is mostly a cost cutting measure. No need to worry about proper fit if the garment is just a shapeless sack.

      Delete
    5. @Jeanne I agree. There is a lack of clothes designed for different body types. Slap on the word “relaxed” and release it in every pale color possible. I think classic fashion will return. Not sure when.

    6. I think "dressing up" will return, at least in areas closer to major cities. Many of us have still been buying and are looking forward to getting out, celebrating and wearing these items. I have been disappointed by the other diners' attire the times I have been to upscale dining establishments (though understand their choice), and have many friends who feel similarly. Give me heels!

    7. Even though I'm not shopping now, there is nothing in J.Crew's new arrivals that I would want for free. It's just not my style. I am more tailored, and I am very comfortable in more fitted clothing. The colors are so dull and drab. I agree with Jeanne that the "relaxed" look saves on cost.

    8. @Cheri: I sure hope you're right about people getting back to dressing up a bit. I get that anyone can wear whatever they want wherever they want, but when I think an experience or venue is supposed to be special, it is nicer when people are dressed for it.

    9. I also like dressing for dinner and miss it! In the before times we would go out each weekend night we could, even if just an hour for dinner. And typically I’d be rushing to get dressed after a game or something, but it makes even going to the most casual dive into something more special.
My version of dressing up might be different now but I look forward to doing it again soon.
Heels...as long as I can walk a few blocks in them since walking a bit is part of our ritual.

  18. A lot of big oversized clothing. The item I think I like the most, AY976, the High-rise classic straight-leg jean with patches, doesn't have a tall option. Other than that, I like the beachy bead jewelry and maybe the relaxed fit linen crewneck sweater.

  20. I went to the mall last night to return some lingerie items I purchased from Nordstrom. I stopped into jcrew. The only item that caught my eye online was Cottage dress in Liberty® Mauvey floral
Item AY639. I have a short torso, I felt a design like that one might work for me. The cotton is high quality, the colors are not as dull as depicted online. It is closer to the second to last pic. It’s unlined as described. I had no time to try on. The rest of the displayed items in store were all relaxed fit in pale rose pink and light khaki green hues. As mentioned before I enjoy the experience of going to the mall and window shopping. I think I enjoy it more than the actual process of trying on and returning. 🙃

    1. @kikigrl, thank you for the in store update! I liked the Liberty cottage dress too but I have a long torso so I don’t think it would work. Glad to hear it’s more vibrant.

I agree with others mentioning the colours being a bit lacking. I’m disappointed that they didn’t release beautiful prints. I don’t understand why when they used to have so many great ones. This release reminds me more of Madewell. I can’t remember who is designing right now.

    2. Most welcome, Jan. I am not sure the dress will work on my body type. I wasn’t happy with the lack of lining. I would have preferred if the bottom was lined. I hope things improve for everyone, and you get to visit a jcrew store this year 😃

    1. i bit. i was interested in the espadrilles at J.Crew but they're over $100 and i wasn't too keen on spending that much on something that's got limited use... but i really like the factory stripe version and they're way cheaper so i feel a little better about that splurge.

  22. I always love a Liberty print, but I’m not fond of the new shirt design. I am busty and I really need darts! Considering the size of my current Liberty shirt wardrobe, I guess it’s just as well that I not buy more.

I’m trying to sort and declutter my large shoe collection, but I’m having very little luck getting rid of shoes. I removed a few pairs that were heavily worn and a few pairs that I rarely wear and don’t particularly like, but most are in excellent condition and I honestly love most of my shoes. I think I need to implement a one in, one out system as the size is getting out of hand. Part of the problem is that I take such good care of them LOL. They seem to last forever. Many of my shoes are a decade or more old and they still look new(ish). For instance, I was thinking about getting rid of a pair of yellow Doc Marten oxfords I bought in 2012, but instead I am wearing them today. They’re fabulous! Shoes really bring out my hoarding tendencies. 🤦🏼‍♀️

    1. Oh my goodness I wore 29 year old Doc Martens this weekend...am I dating myself? ;)

    2. @Jeanne: In my decluttering (and shopping ban) journey, I started with shoes first, and that was a fail but for a few pairs. That didn't even begin to scratch the surface. Yes, I would definitely say that shoes were my worst hoarding activity. I got very frustrated with myself, so I put them all away and moved on. I have been successful in every other category of the purge process, and I plan to revisit the shoe scene at the end. I've thinned out so much of the other categories, but I also think this just might be the beginning. The more I get rid of, the more I want to get rid of.

I have one small-ish closet downstairs that is the "holding area" for a few maybes. Some would require alterations, and I need to be more thoughtful about that and really decide if it's worth it.

I hope my current attitude and feelings toward shopping remain. As for me right now, mindless shopping is "so last year."

    3. One of my decluttering issues that’s been haunting me for years: When I was working in a professional office environment, I purchased a rainbow of wool pencil skirts - J.Crew, Brooks Brothers, Talbots - then a medical issue caused me to rapidly gain a lot of weight. The skirts had been worn once or twice, or not at all, and they no longer fit. 😭 I couldn’t bear to part with them, so I packed them in a huge storage bin. I have since lost the weight, and they all fit me perfectly, but I no longer work in an office, so they remain packed in a bin. I suppose this is an example of having clothes for my mythical self, but I just can’t get rid of them, even though they aren’t appropriate for my current cat-centric renovating-an-old-house life. I still fantasize that someday I’ll wear them. 🤷🏼‍♀️

    5. I can't pare down my shoe collection either! It's awful. It's just that I quicky get rid of shoes that are not comfortable, and what I have left, I truly love. And, like you Jeanne, they are all in great shape. I am actually waiting for my kids to finish high school so I can turn the homework room into my shoe closet.

Actually, this is my general problem with paring down my closet. I DO get rid of clothes and accessories quickly (within one season) if I don't love them. So I would say I love 95% of what I have in my closet, and that 5% will be donated or resold at the end of the season.

However, I have far more clothes than I need, having collected for a good 20 years now, and I wish I had a good metric to use, and more willpower, about what to get rid of. I don't really think the frequency of wear is a good bar for me because I often only wear things once a year or once every other year, but I still love them too much to give them up. Like you Jeanne, the JC pencil skirts are a good example. They are gorgeous, and even though they definitely do not get frequent wear in my stay at home mom life, I can't part with them knowing that I will never be able to replace them with skirts I love so much and that fit so well....

    6. @Jeanne and AudreyS: Quite honestly, even after this big purge, I will still have way more than my life requires. I certainly understand about finding it difficult/impossible to get rid of perfectly good items from a previous or mythical lifestyle--especially since we all know that quality has declined so much. I guess the silver lining is that it makes it much easier not to purchase newer impulse buys at some super low price when often those items don't measure up to what you already own!

It is so challenging to sort it all out. All I can say for myself is that it's a beginning, and I do believe I've learned my lesson regarding the hoarding of extremely marked down items. I sure hope I'm not fooling myself about that!

I read a blog post today where decluttering/purging is compared to a fad diet: "You stopped eating for a week, but did you do anything to change your habits? Or to address the reasons WHY you felt the urge to lose weight (declutter) in the first place?"

"Declutteing is NOT the beginning. It is actually the second step. You might clear a few bags of unwanted junk and maybe even stop the flow of new things into your life for a while, but like most people on a diet, eventually your willpower gives out."

While I'm glad to be thinning out, I need to change my behavior so that it doesn't accumulate like this again.

      Sigh...but the shoes....

  23. Following up on the color palette of the new arrivals ... I saw a few of the new items in store yesterday and I would describe the colors more as “soft” vs. “dull” and definitely prettier in person IMO. Especially the linen items. I bought the relaxed linen crew neck sweater in light mint and sized down.

The fits do seem as baggy and unstructured in person as online but I’m finding that at all merchants. I don’t think it is as much of a cost-savings thing as it is a strategy to transition people (who may have a few extra pandemic pounds?) away from sweats and elastic waists as life gets a bit more normal.

  24. Just came back from my birthday trip to Mexico to find all of my items from the fire sale have arrived. Surprise: I love them. Well, one was NB Comp100s and the other was a pack of masks, so don't really count.
I got the serge pocket mini, and I ordered one size up to accommodate the high waist which was the right call. Now I can breathe AND tuck in a top. And since it's a size bigger, it also feels slightly longer too.
The tie-neck tiered dress in scattered peony print was a surprise love. I got it one size larger but it was petite so I knew it'd fit between my usual size and the next up, and it's perfect even in the shoulders which are my usual problem area with any JC top. The fit of the dress is already a bit oversized anyway so it helped that this was a petite fit. Already in the wash so I can wear it this weekend.
Lastly was the gingham cashmere in navy. Surprised how soft and thick it is -- def not see through. I was anticipating thin cashmere like the others I've gotten in the past year. It is so soft! It's a slightly boxy cut with the side slits (didn't anticipate that) but I don't mind it. Super comfy and glad I waited for a fire sale to pick it up. If I had known the quality would be better, I would have gotten the pink one too.

Glad your items worked out! I was eyeing the gingham cashmere sweater but we haven’t had any promo. My sweater drawer is overflowing so maybe for the best.
