Seek & Find: Will you visit J.Crew this Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopping by a J.Crew store this weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SALE, or to see some NEW ARRIVALS {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

P.S. I noticed that many of you have already been reporting sale items (and in which stores) in other posts which by the way "thank you!" :) I really appreciate how helpful we are for each other!

  1. I’ve been feeling very inspired by everyone’s decluttering and low-buy/no-buy stories, but I have to admit that eeps review of the gingham cashmere sweater caused me to momentarily consider ordering it. I love a good cashmere sweater and I’ve been really enjoying the ribbed cashmere v-neck cardigan (AR944) I bought a few weeks ago. But, no, I already have too many sweaters in need of decluttering. I dropped off several bags of clothes and shoes at Goodwill earlier this week, but I’m nowhere close to being finished. I started my new Goodwill bag with 3 pairs of Uggs Meena driving mocs. I have worn them a lot and I’m ready to let them go.

    1. Oops! Jeanne, don't be swayed! Stay strong!
(I did wear my gingham sweater to work from the office on Monday, and it was so warm and soft. No regrets -- unlike all those see-through thin Tippis hanging out in my closet and getting eaten by moths??? each winter)

  2. @Jeanne: Thanks for continuing to share your decluttering/purging activities. It inspires me, and I appreciate it! My latest "report" is below.

  3. And this is today's purge report. These things are gone:

All cotton Jackie sweaters. They really are not at all useful to me. They don't keep me warm, and I'm always chilled (unless I'm in my own home). It works better for me to layer with a long sleeved tee (like the "Perfect") under a blazer.

All Tippi sweaters because the fit has never been good for me. They balloon out and are 3/4 sleeves, which don't layer well for me. I don't like them whether tucked in or not.

Anything at all with 3/4 sleeves from the past when there were many of them being sold. I want my sleeves to be long no matter what the item is. More layering issues.

Last summer I purchased five pairs of printed cotton (mostly) Kickout Crops. I decided that I just don't like them. That seam in the back of the leg bothers me, and I should never have kept them. I hate to admit this, but I never wore them.

I am thinking of getting rid of all short sleeved tees. I know that might be shocking, but I am not wearing them. In the warmer months, I am not outside without being mostly covered up, and I don't need them inside. I would rather layer with long sleeves. I have way too many, and I sure don't want to count them.

So with all of that, it will mean two flat plastic roller storage bins under the bed. My goal is to have none of those.

No purchasese. The more I confront my excess, the easier it is to not consider buying anything. I NEED to have the closet for the life that I actually have. Same old song....

    1. Completely agree on the Tippi! I had quite a few - colors, prints - and purged them. I don’t know why I bought so many when it just was not a practical or flattering fit on me. 3/4 sleeves don’t layer well under anything, the merino was too thin to wear over anything, and that high, wide-banded neckline was not a great look for my 34D chest. I didn’t wear them and only kept the Ski Chamonix one because it is too adorable to give up. I tend to buy the same item in multiple colors, esp at J Crew, and in this case it multiplied my mistake.

    2. I thought I was the only one who didn’t love the tippi! I only had one, the Camo one, and I sized up so I could layer a button down under it, but the cut was tight on my chest and loose through my torso and super tight on the arms. Sold it with zero regrets.

    3. @Ruffles and Suz Has: Not sure what flavor of Kool Aid I drank when I purchased those Tippis. There were only four (many more Jackies), but there should not have been even one Tippi. There was absolutely nothing right about it for me. I couldn't wear anything under it or over it. It didn't work tucked in or not. The sleeves were odd, and so was the neckline--at least for me.

What this tells me is that this is another example of not being thoughtful and mindful about a purchase. It wasn't good for my body, it was not comfortable, it was not useful, and the fabric was not lovely. Wasted money and wasted space was the result. Oh, and I'm sure I was in some sort of hypnotic/altered state while in super sale mode.

I repeat: This purge and shopping fast is forcing me to examine myself and my habits. It's about time!

    4. @Suz, YES on the tight arms! Forgot that.

    5. Well all this discussion is helping me. I have a box full of old navy athletic shorts. Why? I guess I got them for me and my girls years ago but they are really low rise and only suitable to wear to bed or maybe on a walk. I would never wear them to the gym. Not that my husband cares but I don’t need to wear old athletic shorts to bed. 😆 Out they go.

    6. I still LOVE the Tippi, so if any of you are listing them online, please link your Poshmark/eBay closets so I can give your sweaters a new home!

    7. hi alyssa, what size are you looking for in the Tippi?

    8. oh darn, i've got some extra smalls that i've been thinking of putting up on poshmark. i hope you're able to find some!

    9. Tippis don’t really work for me either. They don’t layer well and I find them too itchy to wear next to my skin. I’m actually allergic to all animal hair, but I can tolerate it for a while as long as I wear something underneath. Which reminds me, I really should get rid of the wool and cashmere turtlenecks that I love but can’t wear comfortably.

      Yesterday’s Goodwill bag additions included:
      * Several pairs of well worn Chuck Taylors that I no longer wear. They are still perfectly wearable, but I have other sneakers that I like much better so I rarely reach for them anymore. I know someone would love them, so it’s time for me to rehome them.
      * 2 prs of J.Crew sale Tretorn that are in barely worn, like new condition. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with them other than being plain and boring.
      * A pair of Vince mules that have barely been worn. They are the right size, but something is off about the fit. I constantly feel like they’re falling off or they’re going to make me trip. I walk strangely because of it and take them off as soon as possible. I have Frye, Chaco and multiple Birkenstock mules that feel so much better, so why torture myself with these?

One thing I’m noticing: I much prefer “fancy” shoes over more plain shoes. I will usually reach for the bright colors and odd styles over the practical shoes. I buy and keep way too many pairs of plain black and brown shoes because I feel like they’re something I should be wearing, instead of my beloved collection of Hello Kitty shoes. (Yes, I have a collection of Hello Kitty shoes LOL.)

    10. @Jeanne: It sounds like you're accomplishing quite a bit and analyzing what your true preferences are. I'm making notes of my likes and dislikes and am planning to review that list often so that I don't make the same mistakes.

  4. Thank you for sharing.

I haven’t done much physical purging this week since my donation bags were picked up and I sold a few things on posh but I have a few things I’m trying to mindfully consider.

Black Kamm pants only because I love how the denim make me feel.
Clog sandals, mid heel, maybe from everlane which are currently waitlisted but among the lowest price I’ve seen. I got rid of a too high pair and most of my other heeled sandals and think these would be a good addition. But I have lot of flat sandals and low lace ups from last summer.
Comfy but attractive shorts. I have running shorts which are really too short and more dressy shorts but I’m feeling like a lot of my casual shorts miss the mark for looks good and are comfortable especially as my legs have gotten more muscular.

I’m not rushing into any purchases but I’m continuing to go through what’s in my closet and move anything I don’t find flattering and comfortable to another space to determine whether I hold on to it, pass on to my girls or get rid of it.

    1. I like those everlane clogs too. Classy looking.

    2. I like the ankle strap and not too high heel. I really don’t need to be in a high heel but I like the chunkiness of it. Last year I was tempted by the madewell clog sandals but it felt silly to buy because we didn’t go anywhere. They didn’t have neutral colors though. Most of my Everlane shoes are super comfortable so that’s a plus.

    3. Yeah I agree the perfect heel and color. A cheaper version of the Swedish brand. I am
Tempted to try but I know I shouldn’t. I injured my ankle last year, not sure this is the right thing to do 😭

    4. My size is backordered until June, so I have some time to decide. I do feel an ankle strap gives me some support!

    5. Well my size is now shipping this week. I ordered the black but if I don’t loveeeee them I will return. I did sell three pairs of my Birkenstocks I no longer wore and two pairs of daughters outgrown Nikes so feel one pair of sandals is a fair replacement!

  6. Today I went through some things which has to reiterate why I will avoid certain fabrics.
JCrew paperbag shorts from end of season summer 2019. Hem totally came down on one leg. Washed once. Shrunk and are unwearable.
JCrew paperbag pants from end of season last summer (purchased fall I think). These are a tencel blend and I should have known when they showed up with loose stitching and somewhat misshapen they were not great quality. Worn minimally and washed ONCE according to label. Totally shrunk and unwearable.
The same thing happened to me with those madewell pull on shorts but it was during the season I bought them and they did credit me at least.
Maybe I paid $50 for both but it’s $50 gone.

On a positive note I’ve washed my vintage cotton joggers several times and they have washed well.

  7. No JC visit for me but I was in Chelsea Market so I stopped by the Price sale (misc brands). The only thing I got was an Eberjey lacy bra for $10. What broke my heart were the lovely Vince sandals, mules, loafers, all priced at $39/pair but of course none of them were available in my size (7.5-8).

Some Theory dresses priced at $65-$150ish ... Theory pieces were in great shape. Practically showroom calibre. But the Rebecca Taylor items (RT & La Vie) were horrible - looked old/faded/dirty. Pricing was $29-$65.
    Last day tomorrow.

  8. This is what is inspiring me today:

"The easiest way to enjoy your favorite things is to only own your favorite things. A closet full of clothes that don't fit, things you paid too much for [or perhaps too little during some super sale], and items you don't wear weighs on you every time you are looking for something to wear."

  10. Australia Lime Market: The growing infrastructure and building industry in Australia is the primary driver of the lime industry growth. The demand for lime is also being driven by the growing steel industry in the region, as steel materials are protected from corrosion and impurities with hydrated lime.
