"Looking to VENT" with J.Crew

This is the weekly "Looking to VENT with J.Crew" post, a place to share our not-so-stellar experiences with J.Crew.

If you have recently experienced a frustrating situation with J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including poor experiences with purchases & orders, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. Not unexpectedly, the wish we had enough email has arrived. Anyone else?

    1. Oh no! None yet with three items shipping separately. The sophie blazer, chateau parka, and regent quilted blazer. What do they not have enough of?

    2. Talk chateau parka. I had a feeling it wouldn’t ship so I wasn’t too invested in it other than thinking it would make a good everyday alternative to the red chateau puffer I wore most days (to personal training, basically the only place I went this winter.).

    3. It’s ok, I wasn’t too invested in it other than thinking it could go into the everyday winter rotation with my red chateau puffer and black Wintress. Considering I basically only went to personal training this winter those were what I wore.

  2. Not a vent: I was woken up by a helicopter over my neighborhood this morning (joy of living in NYC) an hour before my alarm, so naturally I checked the sale section. Lots of cashmere and sweaters added today. I picked up the navy gingham since I had my eye on it for awhile, and the red pack of masks. Seriously contemplating adding more sweaters to my cart but held off since warm weather is around the corner. Still sad thinking about how I missed out on the Sophie blazer yesterday in seconds at checkout. Anyone know what's with the sale in stores while this online sale is happening?

    1. @eeps, I re-ordered the pink gingham cashmere that I had previously ordered with a birthday coupon. I was tempted to get a cashmere sweater for my husband, but he mostly wears cotton sweaters (and they are easier for me to wash!)

    2. I was tempted to order the ginghams too, but at the last minute, didn't. I have so many cashmeres that I've bought at the end of season sales over the years, and I know that the only ones I ever wear are the solid neutrals and pinks. Over the last two years I have sent *so much* unworn clothes and accessories to Thred Up (sellers get a low percentage, but they do literally all the work) that I think I am finally learning not to just jump at a good deal just b/c it's cute. It really has to be that I will actually reach for it, over everything else, even if just a handful of times. The one thing I wish I had gotten was the black chateau parka -- I didn't get it b/c I have an earlier black version, but it has the tan faux fur lining, not the black, and I actually like the black a lot better. But not worth buying, except on super sale. Which $13 DEFINITELY WAS! Congrats to any of you who got one!

As a side note, Thred Up has been so overwhelmed during the pandemic with sellers sending in and limited staff that they have temporarily suspended incoming items!

    3. @AudreyS: I think this is the first "fire sale" that I sat out for as long as I can remember. I got the email, but I didn't look because I am immersed in my own form of shopping aversion therapy. I am thinning and purging my stuff, and this is a real "come to Jesus" experience--facing the results of excess online shopping and what I would call semi-hoarding. As I've said before, I'm only referring to myself. This is something I need to do, and I am determined to change this behavior.

Yesterday I went through shirts, and there is a bloody mountain, for Pete's sake! Horror of horrors, there are seemingly countless Liberty shirts maybe worn once. I decided that as sweet as those prints are, I am more attracted to looking at them than actually wearing them.

Everything is being donated, and my place has always been the American Cancer Society's Discovery Shop. As you said, though, all of these places have been inundated, and donations are limited to certain days, hours, and amounts.

It seems that during the lock down, people have been forced to stay home all of those days and hours and face the excess stuff in our homes.

    4. I have been thinking of you MMEJACQUELINE!
I too am continuing to purge. Like you I admire the Liberty/prints but miraculously have only bought bandanas which I really enjoy! Every time a new print comes out I wonder why they don’t include a bandana or scarf. For me they’re a perfect way to include a little color and pattern.

I have a bag of donations I’m working on too.

    5. @Suz Has: Confronting the wreckage of my past excessive shopping has been sobering and rather sickening too. Although I don't want to be overly confident, I feel very determined to change this wasteful habit. It only causes me discontent, and I can see this clearly now.

My original goal for the shopping ban was Memorial Day, and now I'm thinking Labor Day. We'll see, and I will be honest about all of this. Right now it's like I ate too much and cannot even contemplate another meal!

As for the Liberty prints, I really didn't wear them much, and when I did, I can't say that I was in love with them on me. I am 67 years old, 5'3" and pretty thin (100 lbs. and maybe a bit less). I think that because of not having much "stature," these prints make me feel diminutive and not very sophisticated considering my age. I agree with you about the bandanas being a good option.

Anyway, today is sweater day, and that will be yet another overwhelming experience, but I will get through it.

    6. Well, if you need to hear it, I admire you for your determination and mindfulness.
I’m taller but feel the same about a lot of pattern. I absolutely love print mixing on others and bold color, but it feels like too much on me.

  3. I typically wake up around 6 ET, and I checked this morning. I eeps - did you go online before 6 or after? I'm wondering if there is any pattern to when they update the website. I see that there are some things now that I did not see at 6 ET, but I guess that there is some magic window of time that seems to fluctuate.

I ordered 4 different types of coats yesterday at $12.99 and a Sophie blazer. One of the coats shipped yesterday, but no other updates in terms of shipping or "we wish we had enough".

    1. I was up just before 6, and was perusing the site between 6 and 645 At the time, the sale section had 650+. Now it is 630+. But after I saw your post, I checked it again and saw about 10 items that weren't there before -- more bigger price tag items, but the less expensive ones seem about the same. I think there's fewer cashmere sweaters now. As a longtime Crew sale shopper, I was accustomed to the sale section updating around 2-3 a.m. ET, around the time a lot of promos used to switch over -- I used to check around then maybe 4-5 years ago. Not sure if that's still the case.

  4. I ordered the relaxed-fit crewneck sweater in stripe after seeing it on IG. It arrived on Monday with no tag on it, wrinkled and in a bag and a huge hole in the collar. Who packed that and thought it was ok to send? As usual, CS was great and shipped a new one expedited but still annoying. And they claimed they were sending me a return label but nothing from them. I have a few other returns to do in store so I'll just bring it with me but it's annoying.

Re: sale I did end up ordering the pastel colorblock wool-cashmere boyfriend sweater on a whim. Reviews were good and that early morning sale rush got me (and feeling fomo from missing the coat fire sale yesterday!)
