Seek & Find: Will you visit J.Crew this Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopping by a J.Crew store this weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SALE, or to see some NEW ARRIVALS {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

P.S. I noticed that many of you have already been reporting sale items (and in which stores) in other posts which by the way "thank you!" :) I really appreciate how helpful we are for each other!

  1. For Canadian JCAs interested in using a cross-border shipping service - here's my experience so far.

I decided to try Shippsy. I have not received the items yet, but I wanted to pass along some lessons learned so far.

    1) Setting up Shippsy account - done. This was pretty easy. So they give me a shipping address. Instead of a name, it has letters and numbers. This has implications later which I will get into.

    2) Placing the order - As we Canadians know, J Crew is not shipping to Canada. So I thought I would go to the US website and create a new account. The problem with this is that when I tried to check out, it would not allow me to use my credit card because they don't accommodate any Canadian billing addresses. I tried to use PayPal but then got a message about how there was a mismatch between the countries.

I probably should have given up, but I called customer service. They were able to use my J Crew Canada account, but put in the US shipping address.

    3) Note re shipping address - the system needs a name and would not take the Shippsy letters and numbers combo. So the lovely customer service rep put that in the "care of" line.

    4) Multiple packages possibility - Shippsy charges per package. I am prepared for the possibility that each of my items will ship separately, rather than in one package as they may ship from different stores. So I mentally added in a Shippsy handling fee per item when deciding to order.

    5) Taxes - I paid NY sales tax since the Shippsy address is in New York. I am not sure, but I believe I will not have to pay the 13% HST when it crosses the border because they have a higher threshold for deliveries that cross the border via courier companies (which is what will happen why Shippsy moves it across the border for me).

    6) Duties - I paid under $80 on the order, so I think (but am not sure) that I should not have to pay any duties.

I will report back and let people how how the experience goes. I have to say that there are some amazing deals on the US J Crew website and if this works, t=it will be hard to resist. (Although I would still pay a premium on the Canadian website and avoid these contortions)

    1. In terms of the threshold for taxes/duties, it looks like I will pay to pay GST, but not duties

    2. Hi Toronto Modern, thank you for the great details! I’ve considered this a lot in the past year, I live across the border so I used to ship it to a UPS store and just pop over to the US and get it. Oh, the good old days.

I used to always be able to ship to the US with a Canadian address that was stored in my JCrew account. I’ll have to check if that’s changed in my account.

Did you get the Sophie sweater blazer? I hope that this works out well for you. Please keep us updated. 😊

    3. Hi, Jan

I did not buy another Sophie.

I hesitated, and the price went up. But I counted 7 J Crew sweater blazers in my closet (which includes 6 Sophies), so perhaps it's the universe showing me a better path. (But I really do love them.)

  2. It boggles my mind the hoops that Canadian JCAs are willing to jump through just to continue shopping at JC. I almost feel bad as a US shopper that I don't take advantage of my easy access to JC sales as I used do, but then again it strikes me as baffling that a retailer in this day and age would make shopping across borders so difficult. I thought the Internet and e-commerce were supposed to remove these obstacles. So at the end of the day, I feel bad for the shoppers, and only the shoppers. JC deserves all the problems it's been facing.

    1. Lol eeps, it’s true but sadly the prices are so much higher here. Not being able to shop at JCrew these past weeks feels so weird. With everything going on it’s my little pleasure, sense of normalcy so it’s really bugging me that I can’t buy anything from them. Hope they fix things soon.

I will also say that I’d jump through hoops to get to a Target store lol. We don’t have any and it’s never this long that I haven’t been to the US.

    2. Hi, eeps.

It boggles my mind too and I am one of the people jumping through the hoops :-). I'm sure I could probably have mastered a couple of languages and learned to play a few musical instruments in the time that I've spent shopping over the years...

  3. New York should not have sales tax on items less then $110. FYI

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Thanks, Kate. That's really interesting. The package came in at just under $70 US, and there was $2 something in sales tax. It's being shipped to New York state so I figured the $2 something was New York sales tax. Who knows? (The old me would have called to ask, and if I have another order where the figure is bigger, I might, but I'm feeling too lazy to ask. )

      Delete
    2. That may be! NYC has the tax bracket for under $110. But i know when we go to Woodbury common our outlet in upstate NY there is a 4-5% tax! So perhaps they right! Enjoy your stuff! Certainly lots of work!!!

    4. above is a link to an OFFICIAL NYS publication which explains the sales tax structure and exemptions for the State of New York. City and county sales taxes are computed and charged separately.

I have completely stopped shopping at Loft and Ann Taylor because - although I have repeatedly emailed them this OFFICIAL NYS publication - their staff “explains” that they have “sources” that insist that certain items are taxable even though the State says these items are not. I suspect a scam.

So the “non-taxable” clothing cost limit is $109.99. A penny more and the item is taxable. “Clothing” is defined in the publication. The term includes shoes and shoelaces. Sadly it does not include briefcases.

      Delete
    5. Oh, and the tax is imposed on the sale of “goods and services.” Shipping is a taxable service.

  5. Hey everyone. I placed a big order and expect it to arrive Tuesday. I’ll report back. I have both button front skirts (plaid and liberty), a short set of vintage pjs (to wear the top with the skirts), the ruffle front midi dress in navy, long pencil skirt, and pink/blue stripe button front shirt. I also ordered both ratti pj style tops but they haven’t shipped yet. Hoping for everything to be keepers!

  6. Few updates on my end: i ordered few things and wanted to share
1.CABLE-KNIT CASHMERE CREWNECK SWEATER WITH SHOULDER BUTTONS, in pink. Very thin and not worth it! TTS! Going back!
    2. Cashmere boyfriend cardigan sweater with flower buds,
AS274. Love it! They only had xxs buy it fits great! Good thickness, colors, very unique! Little expensive $63... but a keeper!
While back I bought 2 polartec Sherpas wit full snaps! Black and ivory. I like the comfort for home and although I have been using them a lot for the last month they look terrible! The black one has pills and looks like I had for decade! The cream is getting there as well! Supper poor quality! I wash the black one and air dried. No shrinkage! But overall not worth it!

    1. Wow! I can’t believe the Sherpas look that bad. Is the black the one with the navy trim on the snaps?

  7. Better promo today off full price got me to bite. Ordered 2 colors of the new "slouchy boyfriend chino"(AV253) to try (when JC gets chinos right it is sooo good, it just doesn't happen very often anymore), and also going to try the Camille shrunken sweater blazer (AW687). I'll be able to wear that almost year round here in Michigan.

  8. I’m so tempted today to get the vintage cotton pullover and joggers, there are two styles of joggers so no idea which would work better. At 50 percent off full price it’s really not a bad price and I have rewards but won’t take a chance using them unless I know they work.

I did get my Everlane raglan sleeve mocknecks in cashmere and love. The gray and pink (me???) and white which is really bone or ivory. Not my best color but good to have. They’re soft and warm and I love the fit.

    3. Good morning dear JCA's, thank you all from the bottom of my heart for all of your get well messages. First to yippee, yes, I'm out there! Fairly long road ahead, had a total knee replacement. Not fun, but this too, will pass and there are others who have it much worse. My hospital stay was extended and I simply had no time to do anything else but to focus on the recovery process and adapt to everyday things which we all take for granted. PT is very difficult and painful even though I'm very athletic, but I no longer take any pain meds. Now for what to wear, I do have shorts and short skirts, short Jcrew cotton dresses but I'm wondering what you think of the new wide or silk/poly pants and the joggers? Anyone loving some of the patterns? Tops are easy. Just some ideas to add some pizzazz to every day living. I seem to have some brain fog as to what to wear. Those of you in COVID areas getting stuck at home have always had my sympathy and I've been so impressed how you have kept everything together with your "dress code"and pulling off looking good. Love to all of you and again good to be back here. xxxooo

    8. @jan, thank you Jan. Back to normal here with all of you and beyond happy. This is one tough challenge, but again it’s nothing compared to what others are going through or have been through. I must say that being an engineer I was mesmerized by the robotics that were used and my last memory before being knocked out was smiling at the machine and not the Dr. 😂 Hope all is well in Canada and that Jcrew has sorted out its hot mess for all of you. Outrageous 😘

    11. @Mary, I went up a size in the gingham. The pink is so pretty but who knows when I will be able to wear it. It’s been in the upper 80’s here. I forgot what else I mentioned to you. If you can refresh my mind I will let you know. As for style I don’t have much of a style at the moment oh wait yes it’s sloppy 🤣

      Delete
    12. @Lynn, Thanks for the report on the gingham. We're going to the 60s tomorrow so I'm cooling a bit on the idea of another sweater unless it gets marked way down. I can't remember what other items either, so maybe I don't need them!

      Delete
    13. @Lynn, l love hearing that about the robotics! 😄 I was going to ask if you had the regatta pants with you since they have wider legs. I saw you mention below that you do, I still love those pants. Still no international or Canada shipping and it’s been 3 weeks I think.

      Delete
    14. @jan, Jcrew is really blowing it. So much for International Relations🤣 I assumed they would have had everything sorted out by now. What on earth is taking them so long? Do they require a new Trade Agreement? Hang in there, hopefully better days and prices will be coming. Hope all is well with you and your family. 😘

    15. @Lynn, yes exactly 😂 it’s so crazy how long it’s taking! They must be losing a lot of business. Hope that you’re feeling well today. 😘

  10. @Lynn, so happy to hear from you! I'm a fan of wide leg pants with fitted tops and flats. My problem with joggers is they tend to be a bit short and ride up my calves. Is your poor knee still swollen?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. @lynn, I love wide leg pants though the fit can be tricky with crew ones, but the Ratti print ones look like they could be worth a shot. I’ve mentioned the jacquard ones which are actually more of an easy straight fit, not super wide. The navy ones that hit sale recently (with white tipping) looked decent IRL too.

Agree with PBanos about crew joggers but I may venture to the store today to try the vintage cotton ones. I would wear them Loose and slouchy though

      Delete
    2. @pbanos, thank you!! Do you like any of the pants I asked about? Poly or silk? I was thinking the lighter the weight but better. Easier to put on. I do have a problem with wearing the joggers or rather putting them on. Would probably be difficult and short on me too. Haven’t tried them though. Yes, the knee is still swollen a little. Thank you for asking.

      Delete
    3. @Suz, thanks so much for the info. I would really prefer a more easy straight fit as you suggested with the Jaquard. I may order a pair if they have my size. They’re pretty!! Haven’t spent any time looking at the items but will do so and post if I find something. I’m not in love...yet with the Ratti’s. I do love Ratti but I’m failing to get excited as in the past. Maybe just having a manic Monday. Please let me know how your try on goes with the joggers. Your expertise along with others here is priceless, even more so now.

    4. @Lynn, I used to think I prefer silk, but I've been liking this pair: High-rise wide-leg trouser in leopard Item AQ617. I picked them up as the price was so low, but find them good for working from home. The leg is relaxed, but the ankle does taper to 15". They are long enough to work as ankle pants. The other advantage of poly when you are not feeling well is they are easy to launder. And some of the new poly materials are quite nice.

I also have been wearing pull on wide leg velvet pants from Loft for lounging, but they'd probably be too warm for you.

I've two pair of wide leg silk trousers from last summers big sales, and they are great. But out of stock.

@Suz Has is a fan of Wide-leg pant in palm tree jacquard
Item AQ776. I didn't catch these when they were on great sale, otherwise I would have tried.

I looked at the two Ratti pull on crop pants, but that seems like a high price for poly. The length is borderline, and I find anything shorter to be too short for me.

      Delete
    5. @pbanos, it’s unfortunate that I left most of my Ratti pants at home except for the Regatta print and the Safari Jungle print. Those would have been perfect. I agree, I have no problem with the poly fabric and they’re low maintenance. The new Ratti is on the high side so I will for another promo. There’s a striped navy/white poly pant that I thought about ordering although I don’t like elastic waists in the front as shown. Thanks will keep your ideas in mind

      Delete
    6. I bought the leopard pants AQ617 when they were under $10. They’re very nice but I wish I had sized down 2 sizes instead of the 1 size I did. With the higher waist pants I’m wearing a smaller size, I know I haven’t lost any weight😂

      Delete
  11. @Suz, I just grabbed a pair of the jacquard pants. Hope they don’t get cancelled. Thanks so much

    1. Just to let you know I tried them in three sizes and kept two! The 00 was fitted, the 0 fits perfectly and the 2 is a little loose like a more structured pajama pant. I wear the 2 around the house and love them. The 0 is a bit more tailored but not tight so I kept those too. I can wear them a bit lower on my hips but they also work at almost my waist. They may be a little short on you, they hit me at the low ankle. But for warmer weather even two inches shorter would be a fine crop length. I hope you like them.

      Delete
    2. @Suz, thank you for the sizing details. I ended up ordering 2 and they were nice enough to waive final sale and return shipping. I like the idea idea of at the ankle. I bet they look beautiful on you.

  16. @yippee, happy you did. Grateful for your offer of tips and strategies for recovery. To be honest I’m a little overwhelmed by this new regime I have to follow. I do have a little de-stress item which is so helpful and supersedes advice to meditate or use pain meds. I have a Voodoo doll which someone gave to me in Haiti back in the early 80’s. Oh how I love sticking pins. She travels with me, doesn’t give me any bs and provides great satisfaction and anger management. 😂😂😂 I’m furious with the woman that hit me. Thanks again and I will reach out if I can think of something. Find anything you love with the new Jcrew stuff?

  17. @Lynn, I am in Florida so more or less permanent caution and not traveling. WFH and volunteering and walking the dog. Minimal or no clothing needs. Wants-yes. Love searching. Jewelry, which I need less than clothes, is more of a siren call. Love the voodoo doll. Are you pursuing an action against the perpetrator?

  18. @yippee, good morning are we neighbors? I’m with you regarding minimal clothing needs. We have a Lily Pulitzer store in the neighborhood so I see an awful lot of this line as other higher end brands being worn. I would always have enormous pride wearing Jcrew’s more beautiful items because I rarely saw anyone else wearing them. Yes, I am pursuing action not because I’m an ambulance chaser but with the hope that she gets punished for her actions and because there was no show of concern or an apology. I’m so grateful doggy wasn’t injured. You know what’s it’s like here in the Banana Republic as I call it🤣 Jcrew should print some “Be Nice” tees. I have a pair of socks that are cute pink/with dark lettering that says “Mean People Suck”. These are a love for me and people took notice of these. A little too graphic for Jcrew though. Caution? What’s that! We don’t have COVID here, disgraceful behavior and complete lack of respect towards others. 😡
