"Looking to VENT" with J.Crew

This is the weekly "Looking to VENT with J.Crew" post, a place to share our not-so-stellar experiences with J.Crew.

If you have recently experienced a frustrating situation with J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including poor experiences with purchases & orders, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. Not a vent - New rollout online today. Took a quick look and not a lot grabbing me so far but will look more later at lunchtime. Still an absence of any darts on the blouses which makes me regret not getting the navy Irish linen shirt last year!

  2. Not a vent:
New arrivals... A number of things I like such as Oxford cotton A-line shirtdress (Item AW785) and the cashmere tee in stripe and Margot w/flowers... But I really do not need another dress or more sweaters. My closet is overflowing.

  3. The new rollout warms my preppy heart, with all the navy, crisp white, stripes and general clean lines. That said, I need nothing and will be buying nothing.
But someone please tell me why the Tea-length skirt in ikat antique floral (AW810) is $395 full price for a poly skirt? The product description says "special Italian fabric." I don't see the words "Collection" or "Ratti" or "silk" to justify the price.

    1. @eeps, I wondered the same thing at first. So the pattern is woven in the fabric rather than printed on. The 'inside' face would look like the 'outside', rather than a mishmash or blank.

Not buying either, but agree I like the new items. I like the cashmere polo in stripes, though it is so short. And the cashmere sweatshirt.

    2. The prices of certain items seem rather high IMO. Why does a pair of cotton pajamas (not Liberty fabric or anything special) cost $98? Noticed this at Factory as well. $79 for a thin cotton sweater from Factory? No thanks.

    1. I'm waiting too. Nothing I'm in a hurry for.

  6. No new Tippi sweaters...I think they're gone for good. Also no more breast darts in any shirts.

    1. I noticed the lack of Tippi sweaters, too. There is a new Margo cardigan and shell - both merino wool. The description length sounds way too short for me; however the pictures don’t look that bad. Since all the stores near me have closed, I won’t be ordering due to the $$$ cost of returning. If anyone sees the new cardigan in person, please do a review.

    2. I can't speak to the cardigan, but the Margot sweater is much less flattering on me than the Tippi. I dislike the higher neckline and the longer sleeves, and I find the wool slightly rougher than the Tippi.

    3. Agree, Alyssa. Much less flattering on me, too. I did buy the printed Margo sweaters offered last year because I’m a sucker for the prints. I will not be purchasing any of the solid Margo pullovers. Too frumpy on me.

    4. Agree. Why discontinue such a good basic?

I’m bummed. My grey and camel tippi looks worn out. I have no choice but to purchase the Margot.

    5. @kikigrl Have you tried ebay or Poshmark? I’ve been hunting down some vintage crew there lately (cashmere, shoes, and tippis). They have several ntw! I think on ebay you may be able to negotiate with sellers but on Poshmark you certainly can, and if you don’t have an account, me or any other JCAS can refer you for $10 off. I am equally bummed!!!!

    7. Thank you for the suggestion Anthroblogger. I don’t typically shop ebay or Posh. Will look into this.

  7. Boring. Cheap fabrics. Cheap threads. Awkwsrd cuts. No imagination. No flair. Feh.

    1. Agree. Disappointed.
Too much sweatshirts and joggers. 80s are back.

    2. Same feeling here. No interest in anything I saw. I wonder if this is from the new/old designer who replaced Chris Benz. If so, I don't think it's a good sign.

  8. Still not sure how they are dealing with sale stuff. I keep looking at things I purchased months ago and prices are higher. I think retailers are just playing pricing games across the board though.

I’ll be honest I’m not even thinking of spring much, though I know I could probably replenish my white tees but don’t like my JCrew ones. I basically wear them to bed or under sweaters but the cuts aren’t great. I used to love the madewell whisper cotton tees (not the muscle tees because the neckline is too low) but the newer one I got is not great. It’s a silly thing but a staple all year for me.

  9. I looked and I like the vintage plaid. I’m in Texas, so hard to think about spring with our current weather. Definitely not planning to purchase anything. Will wait for more rollouts.
