Weekly Share: Other JCrew-like Retailers

This is the weekly "Other JCrew-like Retailers" post (similar to the "Off On A Tangent" posts), where we can share our finds from other retailers that have offerings similar to J.Crew (like Anthropologie, LE Canvas, Gap, BR, Talbots, Ann Taylor, and the like.)

If you have recently encountered items that are similar to J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including experiences with certain merchandise pieces, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. I received an order from Tuckernuck and wanted to report my findings. This was my first order with them. I’ve been disappointed with sweater and blouse options across my usual retailers (including my beloved Kate Spade) so I’ve been venturing out with who I buy from.

The good: Poppy Red Helena Blouse. Wow! This top is gorgeous. A wonderful true red that’s perfect for the holidays. The lace is substantial and the cut is flattering. That babydoll cut tends to be tricky with a large bust but it’s a winner. I’ll likely wear 6-8 times over December. I don’t think it’s wearable after the holidays though. It just feels festive.

The bad: Evergreen Kent Popcorn Sweater. Wow this is bad. For this price the material should be substantially better. It was so itchy!! The cut was beautiful - a nice length (unlike our crew which cuts things so short!), the turtleneck was perfect and substantial, and the popcorn knit so cute. But I could not get it off my body fast enough! If this was in solid wool, cotton, or cashmere I’d buy every color. You hear that J Crew?

One other note. I placed an order for a glove and hat set at Anthro Monday before their sale ended. The order went through on PayPal but not for Anthro. So I emailed customer service and they are refusing to honor the discount. I have proof I placed the order on Monday! Awful customer service.

    1. Hi Liz, Enjoy your new blouse. I would wear this throughout winter. Don’t be afraid of being shy about the color. As for Anthro I feel your pain. We have one here. I no longer shop from them. Back when Jcrew had their store here I would walk directly across and be greeted with smirks and comments about Jcrew. I ecoalleanze right out and never entered the store again. I called customer service a few times and found them quite rude. After these days experiences I no longer purchase anything from them period in store or online and will never again. I don’t care what they have that I may like they’re on my Do Not Shop List. There are retailers out there that I love and respect and vice versa. Dispute your purchase with PayPal.

  2. I placed an order at Club Monaco. Pleasantly surprised with both purchases and would recommend both items.

    1. Kora Cami: Both ivory and black are gorgeous. The ivory is lined. True to size. It is polyester (which I tend to stay away from) but it’s a good, decent weight alternative to silk that’s not as delicate.

    2. Essential Turtleneck: Classic merino wool turtleneck. Got both ivory and black during the Black Friday sales. Great fit - true to size. Ivory is a tad sheer, but fine when wearing skin toned undergarments.
