J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

  1. I ordered the silk/pima tshirts for my husband. These are very nice, look and feel a step above a cotton tshirt. Nice enough to wear for 'dressy' casual, with a summer suit or trousers. His usual size is a slim XL, but in these the regular L is a good fit.
    Liked enough we picked up 2 more during the 60% sale. Note the blue is not bright like shown on the monitor, it is a much more attractive medium shade.

  2. Need some advice. I got the Harper backpack in italian leather (black) as a work bag because I have neck/shoulder issues and can't carry shoulder/hand bags regularly anymore. I'd been switching between a Fjallraven backpack and cheapo pleather ones from Primark - the Fjallraven works for more casual days, but when I'm wearing a nice work dress etc. and I need to look more polished, I use the pleather ones as they look like leather and are a bit dressy. I've already one through 2 pleather ones in a year because of frequent use/poor quality so I decided to upgrade and get either a real leather backpack or a good quality backpack. I had been thinking about a Calpak laptop backpack because I saw it on someone and it looked really sleek, minimal and the right proportions, but I realized that I could spend a few bucks more and get the Harper backpack with real leather. I received it yesterday and the quality is nice but to me it looks like a sporty backpack in leather, rather than a nice professional person's backpack. Am I wrong here? I honestly can't tell if my opinion is skewed bc I originally had my heart on the Calpak bag or the Harper looks sporty. (rounded top? kind of puffy? thickish straps, larger dimensions?)

    1. Well everyone will have a different image of 'professional'. I think the Harper is a clean lined classy looking bag. You can use it for work, but also for travel or daytrips . The external pocket is convenient for frequently needed small items. To my eye the rounded top is a plus, it looks more shapely and natural when worn than the boxy backpacks.
      If you really want durability, go with Tumi. But have lots of $$$'s handy.

    2. I agree the Harper is on the sportier side of leather backpacks, but I think the beautiful quality leather and hardware elevates it somewhat. I’ve been using my Harper satchel I picked up quite cheaply in the January flashening and I’m really pleased with the quality. That being said the Harper backpack is more backpack than purse, while some of the dressier backpacks out there are more purse than backpack.

    3. Shopgrrrl, I think you figured out my problem. I want something that is less of a backpack more of a purse but with straps. As nice as the Harper is, I already have a few sporty looking backpacks. I’ll be returning.

    4. Glad I could help! I went through the same thing looking for a backpack for an extended urban working vacay. Didn’t want a rugged outdoorsy pack, but the purse backpacks were too small or not robust enough. Finally found a bag that more or less hit the mark but it wasn’t easy.

  3. Is it me, or is the link to Factory gone from the JCrew site?

    Received my husbands $8 Factory Printed slim casual short-sleeve chambray shirt K8283. This is such a nice summer shirt, surprised the price dropped so low. It is nicely sewn, better than some JCrew shirts we've tried. The pattern is flowers, toned down by the two-shade chambray color way. He took his usual slim XL and is happy with the fit. Works well with his off-white chinos and a pair of navy sneakers.
