This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale
items at our
various local J.Crew stores. ;)
If
you are stopping
by a J.Crew store this weekend to see
what's available (if
anything!) in the SALE, or to see some NEW ARRIVALS {sigh!} in
person, maybe you might be
willing to share that with us in this
post. In particular, if you could
share with us a few of the
noteworthy items that are available, at
what prices, and potential sizes
the store is carrying (as well
as the store location)- that would be
fantastic!
Also,
please let us know if your local store is
carrying an additional percent
off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)
P.S.
I noticed that many of
you have already been reporting sale
items (and in which stores) in
other posts which by the way "thank
you!" :) I really appreciate how
helpful we are for each other!
Wondering how everyone is styling their Downtown Field Jackets and Excursion Vests now that fall finally seems to be arriving? I have multiples of each as I’m sure many JCAs do and I love them for practical reasons, but I’m a little bored. Are they “dated?”
ReplyDeleteI have two excursion vest. no downtown jackets . felt they were too short in length for me.
Deletemy vest (navy factory) black (retail) are my weekend go to right now. the factory I use for working out doors in the yard.
The retail black is more polished with the gold snap and nicer pockets. I like my long sleeve perfect tees or tissue turtle necks in solid colours. I sometimes do plaid/or gingham shirts...but this is what I think is starting to look dated. IMO.
I don’t think it’s dated. It’s very versatile. I wear my excursion because it’s always cold in SF. I’m afraid I wear often that it’ll get worn out soon, and I can’t replace it because JCrew didn’t make it this seasonš„. Just yesterday i received a complement. I do hope J.Crew produced it and it’s coming out this end of October. Highly doubt though when they made a cheap Mercantile version. Why J.Crew?!
DeleteI really wonder about the field jacket since it is such a "J Crew" staple (before everything went to crap, that is). But I am completely unapologetic about my excursion vests, the Marty Mc Fly look keeps me warm in chilly temps. I layer them over everything, especially tshirt dresses if I'm going casual.
DeleteThat's a great question. I evaluate my jackets every year to decide what to keep. I've got an old Factory downtown field jacket in olive green that I haven't parted with yet (I sold the retail maroon one, never wore it). It seems so classic, and it was from Factory before their quality went downhill. But I don't wear it. This might be the year I get rid of it, if I don't get interested in wearing it soon. I have several other olive jackets from J. Crew and Madewell that I love and wear all the time. My biggest issue with the downtown field jacket is its weight. I usually need a warmer jacket. The downtown field jacket seems strictly decorative to me.
DeleteI have 3 excursion vests (black, navy, and forest green) and one fleece vest (honey colored). I don't wear these a lot either and should probably keep only one of them, but which one to keep?
Hi cate - I love olive jackets as well. I've got a long one with a striped lining, a Factory one that looks like the MW Fleet jacket, a mossy brown DT jacket, and I had to stop myself from ordering the quilted field jacket "just to try". As far as the vests, I feel like I've tried one every year and they just haven't worked for me. I don't know if it's the fit, the zipper, or what but I just feel like I'm wearing a cardboard box in them.

Deletesilver_lining, I think the vest quality has changed. Mine are older and they're softer (not from wear, I don't wear them that much) and the newer ones I've tried on feel kind of stiff/different.
DeleteI have so many olive jackets: I have the J Crew Factory Downtown Field Jacket (don't wear it much), the Madewell Outbound Jacket (don't wear it much), J. Crew Sterling Jacket (hood and length are good for a light rain), the J. Crew Boyfriend Fatigue jacket (I wear this the most spring/summer/early fall and always take it with me when I travel), Madewell Northward Crop Army Jacket (don't wear it much), the J. Crew Sherpa Lined Parka (sooooo heavy, hardly wear it, but can't part with it), and what I think is called the Madewell Modern Military Jacket (my other most worn - the weight is perfect for cold weather in early spring or late fall to walk the dog). I have a few others that are not olive/not J. Crew/MW.
I don't need this many lightweight/mid-weight jackets, but they're all so great that I can't seem to part with any of them. I need a support group!!! FWIW, I haven't bought a jacket in a while, so maybe I am getting better? :D
I have a black downtown field jacket and wear it regularly whenever I need something heavier than a jean jacket, but don't want a leather jacket. I actually wear it to work a lot and when I'm not as dressed up. Can vests really be dated? They serve a function of providing warmth! The solid color vests are not my style, but I wear the plaid and fuzzy leopard print as I can style them a bit edgier.
ReplyDeleteI've been pulling out all of my vests the past few weeks. I find them perfect for the weather we are having right now where it is cooler in the morning and warms up later in the day. I don't think they will ever go out of style - I still have one from the Gap that I bought 20 years ago!
ReplyDeleteBoring but I layer my excursion vests over workout clothes and with jeans and light sweaters/shirts. When it’s really cold I use them as an extra layer.
ReplyDeleteI have the olive green uncoated downtown field jacket. Sold two others in black and dark gray. I don’t find them heavy but wear over tees or tanks with shorts or jeans. I love them with a basic top and then a more chic accessory like a silk scarf or jewelry. (The dark gray was my favorite I think! I’m finding them a little stiff lately but maybe I need to wash it to soften up the cotton.)
Going to my local store to return the Collection silk tiger dress. The dress is stunning, and the silk feels substantial. The cut is also really nice in a retro-modern kind of way and the fit is perfect. THIS is exactly the kinds of garments J Crew should be making. It really pains me to return it because it's worth every penny but it doesn't work for what I need, and since I had to find a replacement, I can't keep both.
ReplyDeleteI bought a size 2 for the sale price. If anybody wants it, just shoot me an email since I know it sold out as soon as it made it to sale.
I am looking forward to checking out the latest rollout in person!
I love it but wish it came in different color ways. The blue/orange just doesn't work for me. I don't generally wear dresses but love the style and pattern so much, I'd consider it a special item I wore a few times a year.
DeleteI stopped by Liberty Place (Philly) today to make a return, and scoped out the sale rack while I was there. To say there was nothing tempting is an understatement (other than the Abigail Borg silk camis; I loved the blue/white pattern).
ReplyDeleteI had a funny conversation with another shopper, though, who asked me if I knew if there was an extra % off sale. When I said there wasn't, she stuffed the three sundresses she was holding straight back onto the rack with a scoff and "for this quality I wait for the GOOD discounts." I'm with her...
I checked out the new double breasted coats; unfortunately the boiled wool doesn't look/feel that great in person, though the evergreen color is selling briskly.
tried these on as well. (when doing returns last week) I don't need this type of coat. It was okay...but I really only see it selling in sale section at a another % off.
Deletetried on a few Point Sur tops as well. definitly not me. very Madewellish!
Not placing any orders...but are there now tow promos goning on at the same time? 40% SHOPMORE 30% off POPUP ? Still nothing off sale.
ReplyDeleteI think one of these days they will do a Flash sale and try and clear it in one day. probably a day when I don't have the time to persue the 29 pages of sale... this is okay as I want/ am taking a break from ordering online. Its been easy so far this week!

DeleteIf anyone wants to see J Crew done right you have to check out j.crewing on Instagram.
ReplyDeleteHer pics are magazine worthy. in fact J Crew really should be paying her and using her photos.
I just love looking at her posts...its 'Old J Crew" Just what we all want to see..
I went to the mall today and I didn't stop by J Crew but I did go into madewell and they were having a promotion... 20% off your purchase, 30% off your purchase of $200+
ReplyDeleteThe signage in store said the sale begins on October 1 in stores and online, but for some reason our store allowed us to shop the promo early. I bought the Spencer Sweater-Coat, among others, and I'm obsessed! I thought it was a really fair price at $105 with the promo.

DeleteThanks for the update!
DeleteWent to the store today and they had the full fall rollout stuff displayed very well...but ugh when I touched them the quality just wasnt there! The velvet is such a cheap rough velvet...gap did velvet better last year?! Everything is shorter and boxier and cheaper and it makes me so sad. Fall is in my opinion peak j crew and the quality wasn't there.
ReplyDeleteI also visited the store today. I completely agree with your comments. Everything looked nice but when you got up close it was all such poor quality. I didn't even want to try anything on. All of the poly was disappointing.
DeleteNordstrom has some pieces that are not available on the retail site - a cute navy and burgundy pencil skirt (definitely ordering), a silver velvet dress that looks gorgeous (wish I had an event to wear that to!), and a pretty black and gold dress. Also, the button chino skirt in black.
ReplyDeleteI checked out Nordstrom's site... That pencil skirt with the burgundy puff sleeve sweater is really nice!!!
DeleteI think the black and gold dress is item J8259 and the velvet dress is item G8681, both on the site. The black and gold dress has the banner for the 30% popup code but I didn't do a mock checkout to see if it actually applied. Hope that helps- haven't found the pencil skirt, though! I'm thinking at that price point it's probably not lined.
ReplyDeleteI noticed two topcoats I like, the plaid topcoat which seems to be a dark burgundy with pale pink and cerise. And the herringbone topcoat which looks similar to the Regent topcoat. Curious to see how these feel regarding material and weight. I don't need another coat AT ALL but as someone who dresses fairly boring otherwise. I like a coat that makes a statement when I'm otherwise wearing all black.
ReplyDeleteHere are a few gems: Really like the zip up teddy coat. It looks and feels very nice IRL. Had to size down one size.
ReplyDeleteAlso order the cashmere boyfriend v neck and really love the fit and feel of it. Sized down too in this one.
One more thing that is not new but i “discovered” it for me and have since gotten two colors. The v neck camisole (i know its poly) buy if feels and wears really nice.
Forgot the wide legged trouser jean in classic rinse. Really liked those too (size down).
DeleteWonder if the stores are doing 30 off sale?
ReplyDeleteNothing off sale in my store.
DeleteI worked all weekend. Store was 30% off full price and sale with the regular exclusions (cashmere and juliette cardigan). We were extremely busy.
DeleteI purchased a few new items. The cap toe leather boot is very comfortable with soft leather. I liked both the snake and black, but went with black. Also the button fly billie jeans in charcoal wash, slim perfect shirt with embellishment (took the larger of my two button down sizes) and striped shirt with jewels (yoom the smaller size). Jeans and boots were tts. The jeans are a completely new silhouette for me, and I'm excited about them. I hope this helps someone.
I really like the embellished shirt!!! Let me know how it works. Waiting for lower price...lol
DeleteI am wearing it today with my black camerons. It ironed nicely and I've received a few compliments. My store didn't have a 2 to try on, but it would have been too tight in the bust. The 4 sleeves are not quite bracelet length but are shorter on me, and I'm okay with it. I have very long arms and usually that's a deal breaker, but it works with this blouse. I'm very happy!

DeleteI am really loving the red cap toe boots are they comfortable?TIA
DeleteI can only wear shoes that are very comfortable or my feet reject them. While I haven't worn these longer than to try them on, they were very comfortable in the store. I was surprised how nice and comfortable they were. The snakeskin also. We did not have the red to try on.
DeleteRockefeller store in NYC has 30 off full and SALE prices.
ReplyDeletenot in Vancouver Canada. only full price.no extra % for sale.
DeleteThanks so much Kate. My store didn't have it, but they matched Rockefeller. I also called CS for PAs and they processed them.
DeleteSo glad.... we all need to save... I also price adjusted 3 orders and was able to place an order for the Abigail Borg dress in size 2.... now I have size 2 and 4 arriving.... not a bad deal with 30 off plus 15 from the catalog... $59... hope it works, I don’t really own anything this loud... but like the colors and style
DeleteThat's an amazing deal! You will love it! I bought the Borg dress at full price and haven't regretted it at all (I'm wearing it right now for that matter!) It isn't overly loud - there are lots of navy and muted olive tones in the floral. (Although I'm not afraid of a little loudness -- I'm wearing it with lemon yellow loafers today).
