Seek & Find: Will you visit J.Crew this Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopping by a J.Crew store this weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SALE, or to see some NEW ARRIVALS {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

P.S. I noticed that many of you have already been reporting sale items (and in which stores) in other posts which by the way "thank you!" :) I really appreciate how helpful we are for each other!

  1. shocked - just discovered that JCrew customer service is now only available from 7am-midnight EST every day. There's a clipped recorded message saying "feel free to email us or call us back in the morning". I feel jilted. and very sad.

    1. That makes me sad because it means they must have laid off people, since those overnight shifts are now gone. I know they're looking for ways to save money, etc, and this is one painful way to do it, I guess. I've often had many pleasant interactions with their CS. Disappointing to learn this.

    2. Yes, that's very sad. If one had to cut jobs, though, I guess 24 hour CS is a sensible aspect to cut. As a dead-of-night shopper myself, though, I feel the pain!

    3. That is sad. J Crew CS phone reps always seem to do a stellar job. Sorry that some have had to leave.

  2. I dashed into a retail store Thu evening and was able to try the Campbell blazer in white linen. I'm so glad I did because I took a 4, instead of my usual 6. Stores had addtl 50% off final sale, making it $42+ I'm not a huge fan of the buttons, but they work on the white.

Also like the lace-up sandals. Metallic (GG4676) is just about sold out, but the red, brown & black leather (G4588) are still available. I wear 7.5 or 8 in J Crew and took 7.5 in these, which seem to be my sandal size. If you have wider feet and are in-between, I think take the larger size.

    1. Great deal on that blazer, Gigi! I feel like their linen items seem to run a size bigger. This was true for me with their pencil skirts and t-shirts.

  3. On the main j crew page it says "50% off final sale styles." On the sale page it reads 30% off?

    1. Yes, most of the sale items are 30% final sale. But in the category filter, there is an option for 50% off final sale items (less than 100 items I think) - so there are some 50% off items. But they really need to rethink their sale strategy. Unless it's a hard to find item, who in their right mind would accept 30% off items that were available for an extended period of time at 50% off (and even 60% off for a few days before that). I have to thank J Crew though for helping me not buy more stuff that I don't need!

    2. I could understand this strategy if they added new styles to the sale section, but it is the same old stuff. The last promo was on summer styles, which was also strange, as I don't want any summer clothes. I'm excited about a few new arrivals, but not at full price.
25% off in stores today, but I don't think they have any new items yet. All of this equals no purchases in the near future, even with rewards.

    3. With the roll-out arriving next week, be on the lookout for new markdowns. I'm sure they'd want to make room for new merch.

  4. The easiest way to get me to stop spending $$$ - offer a weaker promo late in the sale season. After several weeks of 50% sale we go to 30%?. Who's idea was that and why was it approved?

    ReplyDelete
  5. I took another look at the preorder merch. I have concluded that they don't want to succeed.

    1. Yea, I looked last night, too. Not much to get excited about. Especially if they're not following it with a Style Guide for us to reconsider items that we or I may have overlooked. Seeing how clothes are styled helps my purchasing decisions.

      Delete
    2. Yeah, without any pictures the preorder results just look like a mishmash to me - either overly trendy, seasonally inappropriate, attempts at "throwbacks" or rehashed classics (not that these are bad - but is the “Any day” ponte pant supposed to be the Pixie? How are they different?).

      Delete
    3. I concur as well. Maybe I just expect more from my beloved Crew but a lot of retailers seem to have an abundance of the ruffles and one shoulder and ots and cold shoulder weird stuff. I feel like there is no place left that i regularly shop that hasn't been tainted by the trendy stuff.

    4. After reading countless articles about the various measures J.Crew is undertaking in an effort to pay back its creditors, you have to wonder whether it'll all end up being for naught. You can reduce Customer Service, limit the catalogs' frequency and distribution, close more stores, but the real problems seems to lie in their actual product. Apart from quality issues that shoppers mention, their actual designs seem really uninspired and even lazy lately. They take trends and overuse them, beat them to a pulp. Gingham, ruffles, fruit, etc. It's as if they can't recover the formula that afforded them success in the first place.

I understand bringing back popular items that worked before (Cocoon coat, for example.) Same with the blazers and a print here or there. But it's their new offerings that don't always hit the mark. I know they're tying to stick to their 'Classics w/ a Twist' philosophy and that that's how we end up with that Funnel-neck button, hi-low piece. But actual design ideas seem to be limited -- Destination tees will now be replaced with Horoscope tees. That's all you got?

I do still find an items to love here and there, but as mentioned above, no must-haves, and less to get excited about with each rollout. The only items i added to my wish list were the stretch chinos (more out of curiosity than anything) and the wool topcoat. I didn't buy anything from the last rollout either, despite liking a camo piece or two. Nothing felt like something I had to own. :-(

    5. I like the Harlow cardigans but that's about it.

      Delete
    6. I've ordered a couple of the items, the ivory roll neck sweater with stripes - will see how the cotton-nylon content feels, and the plaid bow flats. Maybe the chinos, but likely would try on in store first. I have no interest whatsoever in tops with ruffles on the bust (?!) and cold shoulder anything. It puzzles me that a retailer that knows the beautiful items people want, keeps trying to push trendy and tacky. I wouldn't wear them anyway but those astrological sign shirts are heinous.

      Delete
    7. Also, am I the only one that likes the bookish academic look such as argyle cardigans in pretty color combinations? Instead we get a sleeveless denim top with black velvet that makes it look like her arm is in a sling.

      Delete
    8. @Elizabeth meeeeeeeeeeeee *raises hand* but then again I am an academic so no surprises there LOL

    9. I'm underwhelmed as well and worried for my favourite retailer. @TM93, you said it - none of their changes will matter if they don't change the product. They promoted somsack as being a great vehicle for change/redemption but I actually liked more items overall before he took over. I agree with others that the trends are overkill, why do they make so many iterations of the same things OTS, etc. I know this problem is at other retailers too but in the past jcrew stood out from the crowd. I especially don't understand the lack of prints when that was one of their strengths in the past.

    10. Anthro, J. Crew used to have a place for us. I loved the way it looked on me and everyone else. Such a smart classic look and looking at the older catalogs, it's so obviously appealing.

      Delete
    11. I'm so sad, on further inspection. There are a few "almosts" but I know I would be disappointed w the quality. Fall is usually J Crews best season. This first rollout appears to be a mixture of overdone trends available everywhere for months, inferior-quality encores, and the horoscope tees?

I'm realizing that what I loved is not coming back, despite my best hope. With a small closet now, I'm expanding my retail horizons upward and looking for fewer but better.

Does anyone else feel like they love JCA more than actual J Crew at this point?

    12. I'm hopeful that the pieces in pre order will look more cohesive in context of the rollout ( there is a ruby colored dress someone posted from Brookfield that isn't on preorder) - and that there will be at least some photos of how things are intended to be worn together. Ina's and Anne's tryons always help :) I too have no interest in cold shoulder and for shoulder, especially going in to fall. Really hoping for more long merino cardigans, a gold or citron pencil skirt, and some nice silk blouses. I like the fall Floral print - hoping the ruffle looks better on than on hanger!

  6. If anybody wants a trip down memory lane, the JC Catalog Archive Flickr page is still up. I stumbled upon it because I was looking for the January 2009 catalog - if I recall, Somsack drew the cover (so he's been around long enough to remember some of the more popular JC days!).

    1. That October 2009 catalog is dreamy. I want it all.

    2. Those earliest catalogs used to make me just yearn for those clothes and they still look amazing. As much as I bought (a lot) I still wish I'd bought more.

    3. Me, too. Love the Scout Chino. Really wish I'd gotten more of these.

    4. I loved the Waverly chino, for me, it was the perfect straight leg.

    5. I wish I'd gotten a Bella jacket and more of the dresses along the way. And a good crittter clasp necklace.

    6. I really wish I had bought more of the original Madison Stretch Chino pants. I bought several pairs of the first Cafe Capris in 2008, which are still going strong BTW, but not the full length ones. I echo the comments above that there seems to be no cohesive plan. It's like they threw ruffles all over the shoulder or on the placket of various garments and then added some basics. I too like argyle and corduroy for fall, and a nice a-line skirt. I'm not fiddling with a tie closed, cold shoulder, wool sweater.

  7. Aw man, looking back on those archives made me SO nostalgic and slightly depressed that we can't expect even 50% of that this year. Excuse me while I go pin my sorrows away.

  8. Got an email that purchases in-store of $75 will receive 25% off and $125 will get 30% off. Picked up the camo tippi (which has previously not been included in any promos) and used my rewards. That was the only item I've been interested in.
They were not advertising this discount in store (but had signs for 25% off for students and teachers) and the cashier asked me to present the email before he applied the discount.
Looking forward to the next roll out and hoping there will be lots more merchandise than what is currently visible by searching "preorder."

    1. I received an email that is for 25% off your entire purchase. No for higher discount for more spent.

    2. I got the camo Tippi last week and really like it! I'm hoping for more patterned Tippis soon. I see one floral in the "preorder" search but don't care for the print very much.

    3. Like JessF, I got an email for 25% off an entire purchase. Must present email.

    4. That's weird, I got an email like the Dish that says in store 25% off >$75, 30% off >$125 this weekend but I thought it seemed like every store and not something I have to show an email for. It says valid in US and Canada.

      Delete
    5. I did not receive an email at all. Sad trombone.

      Delete
    6. No email here either, but I prob wouldn't have used it... It does irk me, as a cardholder. Also bugs when I see a link for early access to new arrivals on FB, but nothing for cardholders. Meanwhile, Madewell Insiders is great. 🤷‍♀️

    7. I received this email & not others. So, who knows how it works. I will stop I'm since it's tax free weekend & I have some in store pick ups to retrieve.

    8. Store was offering tiered promo of 30% off $125. Decided to try metallic gold lace up sandals after @gigisgoneshopping feedback. They're super cute & fit tts. Able to stack 15% off bounce back card with 50% off sale, so $19. Store was busy due to tax free weekend.

  9. Does anyone have the drapey ruffle neck top G4078? I bought the ivory one and I like it a lot but I am having bra complications. I can't wear a conventional bra because of the way the shoulders are cut. I can't wear my nude strapless bra because it's quite apparent that I am wearing a strapless bra (like most thin ivory tops, there is some sheerness to work with) and of course, I can't wear a camisole to camouflage the strapless bra because of the cut of the shoulders. I guess my only option is to try different strapless bras if I'm going to wear this top and see if others are less visible. I suspect the strapless bra showing through would not be an issue with the darker colors but the ivory would be so versatile .

If you have personal experiences to share I'd be grateful.

    1. Hi Toronto Modern - I think that Gigi was asking about this one the other day, maybe she has some input. I was going to suggest a racerback bra but looking at how the shoulders are cut in at the front, I'm not sure that would work.

    2. Hi ladies! I haven't recvd my tops yet. I have a bra that converts to a criss-cross and I'll be trying that, first. I have tried it on and know the material is on the thinner side, so I can see how it has to be the right bra for the ivory. Will report I receive it. ;) I got Sun, too, but am sure that will be easier "to bra."

  10. If you are curious to know what Jenna Lyons is doing nowadays, I stumbled on @Glamourmag on Instagram. The styling she did on these women are fun. Very editorial. I can totally see her signature--volume, colors, layers!! Jenna on fashion steroids. 😂

    1. I agree. It would probably blow the whole fall wardrobe budget though!

    2. @Shopping Celle it would definitely take my budget. Jenna's styling in this article made me notice a piece I had dismissed in the runway shots. I think her elegant creativity with separates is what I have been missing from J Crew lately.

    3. Enjoyed the Glamour piece a lot! I pored over the outfits to see if Jenna used any J Crew pieces in styling her "squad." She didn't.

  12. My husband and I are on vacation in Boston so I of course took the opportunity to visit a new store. We stopped into the Copley store where men and women items are in separate store fronts. I'm 6 months pregnant so there wasn't anything I really wanted to buy but it was fun to check out a different store. I still like my Somerset Mall store better. Also, I took a major chance on a final sale dress - the knit off shoulder dress in red. I figured it was a good risk because it's knit which would fit my bump, reviews said it could be worn on the shoulder and it looked long enough to hit my knee but still lay over the bump. It's my new favorite dress! And it works great now and I think will work after baby next spring too! You can check out the dress on my Instagram @liztriden

  13. Made the mistake of going to the Kansas City Plaza location again today. My in-laws live here, so I sometimes shop to get away. Anyway, the place looks like it's going out of business- entire shelves and bays are just empty. They hardly had any inventory this afternoon. On top of that, no one greeted me or paid any attention to me, even though they were not very busy. I finally flagged down an associate who was incredibly snotty and acted like she was doing me a big favor by answering my question, which was whether all of their inventory was out on the floor. She said that it was. I then asked if the location was going out of business and she seemed totally offended and asked why I would ask such a thing. I pointed out the lack of inventory and she said that they are expecting a new shipment next week of new things. I left empty handed, again. This location used to be really good but I honestly think the company is going to start closing b&m locations soon. The writing is on the wall, both with the lack of merchandise and the drop in customer service.

  14. Stopped in to make the last of my returns from the 50-60% off sales. Store was quiet. I looked around for about 5 minutes and left. Sale items were very picked over and nothing new that I needed to try on. I did see the Lottie flats which were on my wishlist but with the elasticize back that really can't be seen on line the display shoes looked like a smooshfest already and I will pass. Glad to say I have no pending orders or packages as I need a break.
