  1. Preorder is working! There is a leather pencil skirt in a color which has modernized its name for social and professional reasons but which was once known as Avocado. There are luscious green velvet Averys - unfortunately the user reviews are from 2016. On first gallop through, didn't observe any fruit and vegetables. So as usual, some lovelies, some ghastlies, and some puzzlers why why why.

    1. no fruits...but bees and terriers. seems critters are in again. too bad about my astro sign. taurus. the long sleeves and black bull make it the worst one.

    2. That avocado skirt is lovely, but I've not hope in owning it as it doesn't come in Petite, bummer.

This item: Ruffle-front periwinkle shirt (Item G9206) - they REALLY are pushing those gigantic, excuse me, 'dramatic' ruffles on us, aren't they? Hoo-boy.

The Aquarius tee looks ok, a little too retro for my tastes, not sure. I like the concept in general. (I don't get the Pisces one though -- that phrase is from Entourage, at least in recent popular culture?)

The San Remo copy is pretty, but wondering why they made the ruffle in that bib design.

Oh well, curious to see what everyone else is interested in!

    3. I checked pre order. Love terrier button down...hate the horoscope t's...those have been done a million times by a million companies..major fail will be on sale rack in no time

    4. Horoscope tees, a horrible idea. Too 70's for me, and not even designed tastefully.

    5. Correction-I meant to say...artsy. Cool art design.

  2. I love that there are tons of new arrivals in the pre-order section. Just type pre-order in the search box It looks like the San Remo print is back but this time they are calling it fall floral. It is available and a sleeveless top and the lardy shoe. I like the plaid regent blazer with the velvet tie. There are also some critter pants. The natural denim pants with the velvet tide looks nice too. Finally some new eye candy!

    1. Make that the Lottie shoe. I need a proofreader.

  3. Enough with the one shoulder and Ots tops! If it is cool enough for long sleeves I do not want one arm or my shoulders exposed. The only items added to my wishlist from the preorder items are the ratti graphic diamond print skirt and flats and the striped Avery flats. I seriously don't need any more shoes but will probably cave eventually. I think the worst for me this time is the sweater with Ruffle sleeves. I just think this looks childish as do many of the other ruffle tops. Again I am sure some will love just not my style at all. Nice to see all the preorder items available to view!

    1. Oh my, the gingham one-shoulder ruffle top! It's like, "How many trends can we jam into one piece?"

  4. I like some of the new arrivals. The plaid regent blazer is on my radar. Some of the horoscope tees are cute but, of course, my Virgo one is lame. I like the vintage plaid colors but not that ruffle on the top. I also like to new Audrey flats in graphic diamond.

But, I'm trying to be good. I splurged on the wrap sweater pop back, so if it ships, I'm waiting for September to splurge again.

    1. I like some of the horoscope tops but mine is boring. Can I wear a horoscope top even though it's not my horoscope? Hmm . . .

    2. HA! i was wondering the same thing! pretend to be another sign?! :)

  5. Overall, I'm a bit disappointed with the new items. I am not a fan of any of the prints, the fall floral isn't really my color scheme and the sequin floral is just ok. Soooo many bib ruffles, no thank you. And at this point, all of my summer OTS purchases can take me right on in to fall. The colors of the coats and blazers are also disappointing...avocado, no thank you :/ I do like some of the Avery heels and the resume dress in everglades green and those wide leg polka dot pants might be interesting. But overall...I'm a little blah about this one so far.

    1. Yeah, I haven't liked any of the prints in a while and also do not wear bib ruffles (or OTS/one shoulder tops). I am honestly trying to give them my money, but can't find anything to buy :( lep33shops

    2. Anne- fall floral is not my color scheme either. Overall the prints have been less than impressive recently. I also agree think the colors on the winter coats are a snoozefest. And yikes at the bib ruffle! This is another look that I think reads juvenile at least to me.

      Delete
    3. Feeling the same about the prints! I was all ready to post in the 'Love' column today about how much I (all of us, really) generally love their prints -- yesterday I wore Punk Floral pencil and paired it with a white sleeveless shirt with blue polka dots. It looked really nice and I always get compliments on this skirt!

But i haven't felt like that about many of their prints lately. There hasn't been one that i really LOVE, you know? That orange and black heart print -- a few weeks ago, a few JCAs were commenting on how this combo only works on Halloween. The blue floral print -- forgettable.

I commented above about that bib ruffle (and the dramatic ruffles for that matter). They put that bib ruffle on those long-sleeved tops/thin sweaters last time and even my favorite SA bluntly said they were a miss, as they extend almost down to the navel.

    4. TM93. Do you mean the blue floral tippi? with the sequins...Horrible! Looks so tacky like from Sears and for old ladies..eeek

      Delete
    5. @RN, yes, that print! It also comes in a Pencil skirt version (sans sequins), but I think the Tippi version is even more boring.

On a more positive note, the Popover in Terrier print isn't as bad as I feared - i like the burgundy color they used for background. (I have limited use for popovers, however, as they don't tuck in well. I actually don't think they're meant to be tucked, but that's another topic.)

    6. Anne, I feel the same way. More and more, I am inclined to sew my own clothes to fill the void that J. Crew and Anthro have left in my life. I realize this may not be everybody's cup of tea, or within means or skill level (sewing is quite a costly and addictive hobby!) but this is the only way I am able to fill my closet with high quality garments made from natural fibers (silk lining woot woot!).

      Delete
    7. Hi Anthro Blogger - do you have an Instagram account? I'd love to see what pieces you make!

    8. The funnel neck shirt (H0949) is so ugly. I really would like to have been part of the discussion where that shirt got the greenlight.

      Delete
    9. @silver_lining I do, It is @anthro_blogger. My sewing skills are much much better than my photography skills :)

    10. @Jazmine, that funnelneck, with the button closure on one shoulder, looks like an oversized baby/toddler top.

  6. Looks like they added another pocket on the cocoon coat too...meh.

    1. I don't like how the pockets are placed, and slanted design...

    2. yes. the fiddled with it. slant pockets and two on one side.
glad I have a older one.

    3. I am in the market for a new one this year. I guess I'll be shopping eBay or stalking popbacks. I foolishly bought one in the spring but it doesn't fit me now.

      Delete
    4. I have the cocoon in green when Marissa was still the head designer.

      Delete
    5. Don't worry, there should be plenty of the older ones on ebay. I wish they would have just moved on from the Cocoon completely and done something new.

      Delete
    6. I agree. I'd like to see some new coat styles this year.

      Delete
    7. I echo the "old" Cocoon coat love. I have one from 2012 or 13 in black with tags still on and the nice, horizontal flap pockets and inside piping (quality design details!!), but I was terribly underweight then so when I finally put on the much needed weight, it didn't fit like I wanted it (I gain weight in my bum, LOL) so I bought it a size up last year. The fabric and design are not nearly as sharp , elegant and durable as they were even 3 years before. It's quite staggering. Still wish the old one fit me, and I'm sure it'll get sold once winter rolls around, but more than anything, I wish I could show Somsack the decline in quality with these two coats in my hands. And 2012 wasn't even J Crew's "Golden Age"!

      Delete
    8. @Anthro Blogger, I know exactly what you mean about that coat, as I've had the same exact reaction with their Majesty Peacoat. My 2012 one has been worn to death and is need of urgent replacement so this past winter, I snagged a good deal on one ($90 for the Heather Red color!) As soon as it arrived, I could see the difference in quality. Both were stadium cloth, Nero Gori wool, but something seemed off. The wool felt fuzzy, cheap and light. My old coat has a more substantial, solid feel to the wool that was lacking in the new one. Returned it right away.

      Delete
    9. @TM93 Yes! The wool is definitely lighter, more "spongy" rather than substantial! Disappointing! I really wish my old coat fit me as I bought it too late in the winter to wear, but I worked so hard to gain the weight that I am not even going to play the what if game. Clothes should fit us, rather that tailor our bodies to fit the clothes so I just need to let it go LOL

  7. -Parker Camel Topcoat (it has been on my wish for years but never had it in petite and camel)
    -Leopard double strap flats
    -Natural denim top w velvet
    -Beret (ouí ouí)
-Petite Quilted Field Jacket in moss
-Velvet slingback flats in bronzed topaz
-Pleated trench coat (mildly interested but the pleats might overwhelm my frame)

    1. Changed mind about the field jacket...meh.

      Delete
    2. Like the quilted field jacket but I'd prefer a regular collar on it, not the stand up kind. If it goes on sale, I will give it a try. My old quilted jacket from J Crew is nearly worn out.

  8. There are always mysteries with J.Crew. The photos of the funnel neck shirt make it difficult to understand the fit. What is the reason for releasing the cropped pant in stretch chino now?

    ReplyDelete
  9. I typed in 'preorder' in the search bar on the J crew website and 6 pages of new fall arrivals popped up. The new trend for j crew is making astrological tees????

    1. too bad. my asto sign is the worst one. long sleeved? white? and a black bull. no thanks. but some of the others are much better.

    2. You know, this one is a head scratcher for me. No offense to anyone who likes the tees, but it seems so 1980's and not in a vintage way. Hard pass for me.

  10. Also disappointed to see the new dress pants are poly/viscose/elastane...the Cameron ones were promising but that seam up the rear end...ugh.

    1. I need work pants and noticed the same thing about the fiber content. I'll stick w the Super 120s. I wish there were some options that aren't such a hi rise - I know they're "in" but if you are short-waisted w a chest, they just don't flatter.

    2. Yes! Waiting for high waisted pants to go away almost even harder than OTS tops.

  11. I love the new Liberty print perfect shirt and the gorgeous blue Harlow cardigan. I don't need another Liberty shirt and certainly don't need another cardigan of any sort but I know I will purchase with a promo. Nice to see some things that aren't ruffled, off the shoulder, cold shoulder or all three rolled into one (although there are plenty of odd looking things under preorder). That olive green romper made me LOL. Needed a chuckle this morning, just not while I was drinking water!

    ReplyDelete
  12. OT. are any of the off the shoulder tops able to be worn "up...over the shoulder" and stay that way. as it you can wear a bra? some of the colors and prints are pretty. but I will not ever wear an off shoulder...I just can't.

    ReplyDelete
  13. OT - I've admired the madras prints for men this summer even though I'm female. I would like to add that I also love the Kokeshi doll print, the fish print, indigo blue silk-linen and floral print camp collar shirts. I never used to pay attention to the prints for men, but strangely I find myself wandering over there more often these days.

    1. To add to the topic there is also so much less to sort through on the men's side. While I realize that in general there is always going to less on men's than womens I really think they could scale back the women's production, you don't need 20 styles of Ots tops, how about five. I feel like they did the same with the new bib ruffle thing. Too many!!!

  14. JC merino V-necks are a fall and winter staple for me, so I was hoping for some new colors. Fingers crossed that we will see some later.

I have no need for the Avery velvet pumps but I've loved dark green velvet ever since Scarlett O'Hara's curtains . . .

And interesting to see that the San Remo print has been recycled.

    1. There's also a rollneck sweater for those who are interested.

      Delete
    2. Agree about the San Remo print! It's nice to see that they recognize that there are some treasures in the print archives but the colors, while pretty and very fall, are tough for many people to wear near the face. Maybe a skirt in the next rollout.

      Delete
    3. I think the library print should be next! Signed, an academic and former librarian :)

    4. I still have (and love) my original San Remo sweater, and it's in great shape after all these years.

  15. Boden also has a version of a terrier print in a tee with a grey background and a button down (Classic shirt) with a light pink background. As much as I love Boden I like J. Crew's version this time (assuming the fit isn't boxy/oversized). The puppies pop more against the maroon, which is a better color for fall, and with the inevitable promos I'll probably pay less for the trend at J. Crew even though the initial price is higher. Although, no fabric comp is listed which might end up being a dealbreaker...

    1. @Alyssa, i like that terrier print, too. (Just saw it comes in cropped pants, too, which is somewhat surprising to me. Similar to the Bee print, I guess, in design.)

    2. Alyssa, I have bought these popovers a couple of times before, and they tend to be a cotton/silk mix. I hope this one is too!

  16. Have you guys seen the Silk Cold Shoulder Top in heart print?

    1. Can't they put a ruffle on it as well. That would be the ultimate!!!!!!

    2. No bow on that? 😂

And the one-shoulder gingham ruffle top... I would feel ridiculous wearing one long sleeve. Because it is ridiculous.

  17. Checked out the pre-order selection...a few interesting pieces. Then I sauntered over to Coach to spend a gift card that was burning a hole in my pocket and was instantly unimpressed with their R-T-W. I used to think of myself as somewhat stylish but clearly I must be missing the current fashion train or have fallen off completely! I will reserve all comments until the actual collection at JC and Coach arrives in store because I know I am missing something. Until then...

  18. What's up with those funnel neck woven tops? Can't imagine how that could be flattering. Is it me or do the cropped stretch pants (G7465) look just like the Jesse Kamm sailor pant (at a more affordable price point)?

    ReplyDelete
  19. I like the silk wide leg polka dot pants; I'm a fan of olive, so digging "dried thyme" collection leather pencil skirt. Harlow tweed trim in merino wool will be a good substitute for a blazer. Tippi sweater in printed hearts is just cute & looking forward to seeing the heart skirt shown @ NWFW. Hoping Avery glittery tweed heels will work since velvet versions didn't work on my feet. As noted by others, there are some head scratchers too. All of the OTS, one shoulder, cold shoulder, bib and ruffle from spring & summer is in clearance with multiple sizes available.

  20. There are a few things I like. I actually love the striped funnel neck too. I think it would be flattering on me (black and white). I like the quilted downtown field jacket too. I don't need much and we are moving so I won't be buying anything right away.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I don't know if it's because I haven't bought a ton of stuff from Madewell, but I have been really pleased with their sizing so far. Everything I have ordered has been TTS.
