J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

  1. I got the Linen Cargo Pants and they fit large, IMO. Millie Sandals fit TTS.

    1. Those pants run very big! I wish I bought them 2 sizes down, not just one size down. Mine are bagging in the butt, which is already poochy because the back pockets aren't lying flat any more. I love the idea of these, wish they'd done a patch pocket in the back though!

  2. Not really a review and maybe better suited to the "running large" post, but I deliberately ran my boyfriend tee (100% linen) thru the dryer this weekend. It shrank 2 inches in width and 4 in length. That changed the fit from sloppy big to stylish slouch. And it tightened the weave enough to solve the sheerness issue.

    1. Thanks, Gigi. I just took a look at the reviews. I'm always looking for reviews of Madewell items. I didn't realize Madewell reviews would be in the 'Like Retailers' thread. I thought it was just a posting for sales at stores like Loft etc.I will have to read that thread more closely.

    2. Thanks for your reviews, Gigi, and for the heads-up on the extra % off in-stores for Madwell. A nice CS rep matched the promo for me on a couple of sale items (no local store)--whoop!

  5. I received the Collection Woven Raffia Tie-Front High-Heel Sandals yesterday. I took my usual J.Crew size 7 and they fit perfectly. The back of the shoes does come up a bit high, so I might need to break them in as they rub in an awkward spot. They are beautiful shoes though and definitely worth it on sale and promo!

    2. The carrie cami runs small.I had to size one up.

    3. pathos - I reviewed the Carrie cami in stripe. It runs tts, imo. Or if you're in-between sizes, take the larger of your 2 sizes. I tried on 4 and it fit, but was tight. I would buy a 6, which is the size I take most often in J Crew tops. Should mention I'm a 36C. The lining is poly, so there's no give or stretch and that's a factor in fit. HTH :)

  7. For those JCAs who bought the Etta suede pumps (#02930) - how do you find they run? I know this is an older style but I am trying to figure out if the pair that I ordered last week is a one off or if they actually run a whole size smaller. I'm a 7.5/38 in most designers and brands but I ordered a half size up because I remember reading an old post here stating that they ran small. However the size 8 is still a hair too tight in the toes. Since they are leather should I stick with this size and hope that they open up or should I try an 8.5 (which seems a bit ridic to me) and use shoe inserts for fit and comfort if they're too big?.

    1. D*ska - I don't own the Ettas in suede, but I own the fabric studded ones. I wear 8 in J Crew pumps and that's the size I got in them. I wouldn't go larger if they're just a little too tight. Try a shoe stretcher at home, if you have one. Or just take 'em on down to a shoe repair shop and have them stretch them. They can do it gradually for you. Have them stretch them a little. Try them on right there. If they're not stretched enough, ask them to do it a little more. Hopefully they'll do it for you right there because they're just putting it on a machine that does it for them. They did it at Macy's for my friend and we were amazed so I'm sure a repair shop can do it for ya. Let them know it's the toe box that's the issue so they can focus on that area. Good luck :)

    2. Thank you so much Gigi! I was a little flustered and miffed when I tried them on. I will take them to a good cobbler that I know. I won't hazard a first time stretching at home since I've got big plans for these pumps.

    3. D*ska - I have 2 pairs of size 8.5 J Crew pumps that I've never worn, thinking that was the way to go. When you start going up a full size, the fit starts to get off. The stretch should work :)

  9. Quick rave for the seamed navy matelasse skirt that I got for $51 with the shopmore code.

I am 5-2, but took a regular size instead of petite, and the skirt was knee-length on me. I have no idea how they got it to be knee-length on the model, unless they offered it in tall. The hips are quite slimly cut so it can be unforgiving and the skirt flares out a lot more on me than it does on the model. It's definitely very swingy and a nice alternative to a pencil skirt. The fabric is thick but not heavy and the details are very nice.

Not sure I am going to keep it because I am not sure about the proportions for my frame. The waist and hips are a bit unforgiving and I think you need to tuck your shirt into it, which may cause bulges. But it is a very nice skirt, especially for $51,

  10. Just received the Sunglass Print Scallop shorts and I LOVE them. Got a great deal on them last week as they went on sale and was able to use the 40% off promo code along with the remaining amount of money on my J.Crew gift card. Wasn't sure about the 3" inseam. I'm petite, but my thighs aren't necessarily the body part I like to showcase. LOL! But I tried them on and didn't give my thighs a second thought. Leg opening was plenty wide and very flattering. The pattern is lovely, and I like the scalloped edge. The material is very substantial -- not flimsy like some J.Crew shorts I've received. The blue color is more deep cornflower than navy, but will still look great paired with a navy T. Very pleasantly surprised, as I've just recently started buying shorts again. Definitely keeping them.

  11. A quick review of the denim jackets in white (93812) and ecru (a4616): From the website, it isn't clear that these jackets are that different, so with the extra 40% off and at the time, not final sale, I ordered both. Turns out they are very different. The white jacket is a pure white, with white stitching and matte silver buttons, and 98% cotton with 2% stretch. I really like the way this jacket looks, and it's as comfortable as your standard denim jacket, but there is not a lot of stretch so it feels a bit stiff, as denim often does. The ecru jacket is very very clearly ecru IRL, with brass buttons and a distinctly different color stitching. I don't like the way this jacket looks as much, although I suppose it is a good color for cooler weather. BUT, this jacket is 92% cotton with 8% stretch and feels a lot like the JC stretch denim jacket. Those of you who have that one will know, that is a superbly comfortable denim jacket. This one feels very similar. For what I paid (mid $50s), I will keep both the one that looks better (white) and the one that feels better (ecru) because the colors are different enough that they will have different uses.

  12. Skinny zipper pants: Love, love, love. The pearl is a very pale khaki color, material is just the right amount of stretchiness. They are a medium rise (no muffin top!) and wash very well. The back pockets are in just the right place, definitely flattering. I went with the bigger of my J. Crew sizes, but I'm six weeks post-partum and did not find them to run small at all (in contrast to some of the reviews on the site).

Linen baseball tee: I purchased the grey/pink color scheme, very pretty. Fit is loose just like all the linen tees. It does stretch a bit with wear but retained it shape after I washed it on cool and line dried.

Bell floral tunic: Gorgeous pattern. Definitely runs loose and is a bit longer than I would have liked, but the pattern makes up for it.

I wore the skinny zipper pant and linen baseball tee in my blog post here: http://erikamarieh.blogspot.com/2014/07/wearing-lately-my-favorite-pants.html
