Weekly Share: Other JCrew-like Retailers

This is the weekly "Other JCrew-like Retailers" post (similar to the "Off On A Tangent" posts), where we can share our finds from other retailers that have offerings similar to J.Crew (like Anthropologie, LE Canvas, Gap, BR, Talbots, Ann Taylor, and the like.)

If you have recently encountered items that are similar to J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including experiences with certain merchandise pieces, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. I was in Old Navy today and noticed a few "Crew-like" items. First was the polka dot sweater, similar to the Tippi Sweater in Polka dot. Upon closer inspection I found the Old Navy version to be thin, and I think I splurge on the J. Crew Version.
Next was the heart sweater, similar to the Crew version.
The item I chose to purchase, was the pin-dot Chambray shirt from old navy, very similar to the Crew version perfect fit chambray polka dot, except much cheaper at around $25!

    Happy Shopping!

  2. The Lands' End Canvas website is nearly empty right now. I hope this doesn't mean they're eliminating the brand.

    1. Oh, I hope so too! That would be sad. :(

    2. I don't think so, since they've had their fall preview a few months ago-hopefully they are just trying to clean out all the old merchandise before the new stuff comes in. Keeping my fingers crossed because there were quite a few things I liked from the sneak peeks.

  3. I found a pair of incredibly cute and comfortable flats at Zara and posted a review here. They go with virtually everything and I love Zara's no hassle free shipping/free returns policy. I find the store has a better quality than H&M or F21 for a fashion-forward pieces.

  7. Lands' End updated their website earlier this week with new fall items - some cute things - and Lands' End Canvas as ONE new item for fall so far - a menswear-inspired vest. From past seasons, I do recall that the Canvas website puts new season arrivals on their website a week or so later than the regular LE website - so maybe by the end of this week or early next week new arrivals will be up. Also - Garnet Hill has updated their website today with new fall items - some nice things as well and decent prices (lower than JC) on their cashmere.

  11. Hi - wondering if anyone can comment on the sizing of Boden's shoes? I'm specifically looking at the color-blocked Mary Janes. I'm a 9-9.5 depending on the shoe so not sure if I should size up or size down as I've never ordered from them before. Thanks in advance :)

    1. I am always 39 in Euro sized shoes (except for Repettos where I am a 40), I think the sizes are more consistent. I am 8.5 in almost all J.Crew heels but 8 in many flats.

    2. I bought one pair of Boden's ballet flats last fall and for me it was on the large side. I'm usually a 6, and the 6 from them was quite loose. I put in some heel liner and then it was manageable but still in no way snug. So I'd say you want to size down. HTH!

    3. I have no experience with Boden shoes--I wear a size 5 or 35 and they don't sell size 35 in women's--but I will caution that the differential between US and Euro sizes CHANGES depending on whether you have small or large feet. The size charts that say 5=36 are rubbish, but once you get past size US8, it's pretty common to go up a half or whole size (assuming +30 as baseline).

    4. Also, I read somewhere that the average European width is C whereas US standard width is B. So that may affect fit.

    5. thanks everyone for your input, I'm going to start with a size 40 and go from there :)

  12. shopmurphy--I always size down in Boden. It is rare for me to have to go true to my J. Crew size with them. I took a chance with the patent mary janes and purchased a 41, hoping that the strap allows me to tighten it if need be, but I wouldn't be surprised if when I get them they are too large. I will then just exchange for the 40.

I wear a size 9.5, but I have an exceptionally narrow foot, so bear that in mind. With Boden it is more often the width that is too large, not the length.

    Hope that helps!

  13. In addition to my above comment, I wanted to let you all know that Boden has now issued its fall line. Many of you saw it in the preview back in June, but now the mini Boden, Johnnie b, and the Men's line are updated as well.

I have only received one item from the fall line, and it happens to be a dress that I already own in another colorway. (Of course, lol.) Having said that, I do love the fall version of the Riviera Shirt Dress, so if you would like to see it in action, check out my latest blog post.

Hopefully I will get up a new Boden Review Roundup before the end of the week, but it is not likely to happen before late tomorrow. :P

    1. I just looked at Boden's fall lineup yesterday and am really impressed with it. It seems they are going for a more layerable, simple look, and with less large patterns. And with the quality of garment, is going to be difficult to resist the Funnelneck jacket, Audrey dress, Loulou dress, Retro top, Sixties jumper...
