JCA "Help Style Me!" Weekly Post

This is the weekly "Help Style Me!" post, where we can share items we are having trouble putting outfits together with. Elaine (in this post) says it best, "You know, that thing you bought because you love it and you keep pulling it out and then putting it away without wearing it?"

Please share your J.Crew item (either that you own or are thinking about getting) that you would love help creating an outfit with.

Also, please help out by offering your styling advice. Feel free to include links to your blog (where you incorporated that piece) or to Polyvore (where you showcased an outfit with that piece). Thanks in advance! :)

  1. I love my kaleidoscope capris, but would love some styling ideas beyond a solid black or red top. I'm all for 'daring' - pattern on pattern, etc...what say you all?

    1. They look cute with the blue-green turquoise of the tippi heart sweater. If only the heart was red. I think a solid sweater in this color would look fab!

    1. Thanks very much for the heads-up. Now if only I could decide whether I'm brave enough for final sale...

    2. Bummer Just placed an order yesterday. Will have to try my luck to get a price adjustment.

    3. Thanks, Nicole, I called for PA, got usual lecture that so many have reported here, and then a new twist: PA approved as "one-time courtesy" but it will take two or three billing cycles to process. Guess Dear Leader is making money on the "float" as well as on the shipping. Not that I expected a wire transfer, but still....

  5. Alright, finally settled on items in my cart. Before I hit checkout, does anyone have a general opinion on whether the lucille dresses generally run larger than the ella? I ask because I only have one of each (same size) and feel like the ella is a bit more snug.

    1. I THINK I figured it out between the reviews here and the wonderful blogs of a few JCAs. Fingers crossed!

    2. Popcorn_Heiress - Imo, the Lucille ran a smidge larger than the Ella. I took my current size of 8 in the Ella. I was definitely a 6 in the Lucille. Hope your selection is perfect for you!

  7. I just knew there would be a promo and of course ordered yesterday at 4:45pm. Are you able to get an adjustment if the order hasn't been shipped?

  8. I have the green lucille on its way to me. Hoe do I wear this dress ladies? Once it cools off I'm thinking white button down under.

  9. Two questions ...

First, I need someone to tell me how to start working scarves. I have a small box FULL of JC scarves because I can't resist the beautiful prints, but then they just sit there unworn!

When I try to casually loop them around my neck atop a tank or cami, the way women in their 20s do (I'm 39), or the way the scarves are looped in the hero shots online, I look like a neckless bag lady and like I have no idea what I'm doing.

Some of the ones I have are here, here, here and here.

Second, I'm wondering if I made a mistake in not purchasing the filigree embroidered strapless beach dress. I dithered this morning because all I could see myself wearing over it to make it work-appropriate was a denim jacket! Urgh.

    1. This is my go to video for scarves, something here might work for you: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5LYAEz777AU

I tried and passed on the filigree dress, I'm very pale with pink undertones and the color of the beige was more yellow and not doing me any favors.

  10. I love my Lara Glitter Peep Toe shoes, but am at a bit of a loss as to what to wear them with. So far I'm only coming up w/jeans or a skirt for a casual type thing. Maybe w/a dressier dress too. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks!

  11. Not that it matters, where did this promo come from? I didn't receive an email or anything. It's not even mentioned on the website.

  12. Do you think there is a way to dress up the FILIGREE-EMBROIDERED STRAPLESS BEACH DRESS? Please help me. Thank you!
