Madewell Email: Summer's latest and greatest

"Thanks!" to many of you, including Irina, who shared the latest email from Madewell this morning.

The email features Madewell's latest and greatest new arrivals (click here to shop online).

Overall, Madewell is not for me. I stopped by two stores in the past two weeks and I am just not their target customer. However, they do have one or two pieces that really appeal to me. I am really crushing on the Denim Wrap Skirt (Item 42985; $95.00). Love the length, love the style.

I also really like the Shiprock Sandal (Item 45777; $128.00). It is the perfect black/brown sandal for Summer, with just the right heel height.

They are also offering free shipping (on orders of $00+) with promo code GOSUMMER.

Will you be checking out Madewell? Are there any items you are interested in getting? If so, please share. :)

  1. All merchants need more midi skirts. So many have maxis but no midis. Maxis are fine if you're a college student or just wandering around town, but they're a little tough to wear to a business casual workplace. :)

  2. Tamara: So right! I think midi skirts are just the best. :)

  3. I completely agree with you both! My workplace is pretty casual (for my profession), but there is NO WAY I could get away with a maxi skirt. Definitely not a mini either, even if I wanted to wear them - which I don't! :)

  4. Has anyone tried the Sheer Shapes tee dress or the Widelegger jean in explorer wash and can provide comments on fit/quality? TIA

  5. As I've mentioned a few time recently, I'm really liking Madewell, but I don't like paying return shipping and I don't like final sale, so will probably only buy when I'm in a store. Which will be infrequently since I live about 1000 miles from the nearest one. :)

xoxo - I tried the wideleggers in explorer wash a few weeks ago in the store - they were quite nice. The denim is quite thin - more like a light chino or twill pant - which makes them great for summer and shoulder seasons, and gives them a really nice drape. They fit perfectly in my normal denim size (I'm a 4/27). The inseam is quite long, which is great if you're tall or like wearing wedges with your widelegs. I'm 5'7" and was stepping on the cuffs when barefoot. I also liked that the leg went straight out into the flare, rather than being tighter to the knees then flaring - more of a true wideleg than a bellbottom. Overall, I would have totally bought them if I had a bigger clothing budget. As it is, I have to cross my fingers they'll make it to sale, and tide myself over with a cheap pair of flares from the Gap. :) I'd say, since Madewell offers free shipping and returns on denim (hopefully that includes Canada!), you should definitely give them a try!

  6. ajr, thanks for the info on the widelegger jean. Can you share what size you take in J.Crew matchsticks or toothpicks for comparison?

  7. xoxo, I bought the widelegger jeans last weekend, but I have mixed feelings about them. They are definitely comfortable and lightweight, but they are a tad short for me, especially when I wear 3.5 inch wedges. Probably I will post the picture on my blog so that you have a better idea.

  8. I tried the denim wrap skirt from madewell, it was HUGE, I ordered the smallest size too. Their sizing is too crazy. Everything I order goes back....I am happy to save you some shipping cost on this skirt, it is not that cute in person and adds pounds and volume!

  9. jessie, I would really appreciate an IRL photo. I was wondering if they are truly as long as they say because I have an older pair of trouser jeans from J.Crew that were supposed to be 33 1/2" inseam and they are barely 32". Disappointing since I think trouser jeans look best with heels.

Can you comment on sizing compared to J.Crew matchsticks or toothpicks or even Madewell rail straight jeans?

  10. I have the widelegger jeans and they are by far my favorite pair of jeans right now. They are really light weight. I wouldn't really classify the material denim. They are a perfect summer pant. They don't bell out whatsoever, they are a wideleg from the thigh.

I wear a 27 and sometimes a 28 (I have large thighs) in Jcrew jeans.

I am 5'6" and with 3" heels the were still dragging when they were new. Now that I have washed and dried them (it didn't matter if they shrunk) they are the perfect length and skim the bottom of my 3" heals. They are for sure longer than any Jean or pant I have bought from Jcrew in regular length.

I know tippy from tres tippy has pictures of them on her blog.

  11. Also if you search the blog FFM posted actual measurements for me when I was asking around for reviews.

The best thing about madewell jeans is that you can return them for free....

    Hope that helps!

  12. I just measured the inseam of my washed and dried wideleggers and they measured 34.5". I think they are about .5" shorter than new but if I pressed them out like they were new I bet I would have a little more length. (if that makes any sense?). I'm probably just making this more complicated for you!

  13. xoxo - I usually take a 27 in Matchsticks and a 28 in toothpicks. I carry any extra weight in my hips and butt, so I have to s/u for the really skinny styles.

  14. My only complaint about the denim wrap skirt is that it looks too authentic. :) It looks like it came from someone's attic, from a box that was tucked up there in 1976 and never disturbed until this year. :) I'm all for retro and I'm the hugest fan of 70s clothes and culture, but I would prefer modern interpretations, not direct copies. So how about a denim wrap skirt in one of the more homogeneous dark colors like their Fall 2011 mens jeans? Not this pre-faded denim which will be out this fall anyway? Dark is on the way back, no rips, no tears, no fake fading.

  15. Xoxo, I took my usual jcrew matchstick size which is a 28 it is also my jeans size at madewell, including rail straight and skinny. These wide egged jeans are little loose, I can wear a 27 but 28 is more comfortable. I will try to post the picture, but I think they look a little silly....

  16. Thanks ajr and jessie, I really appreciate the sizing advice and other comments on the jeans.

jessie, I'm curious why you think they look silly, hope to see a pic on your blog sometime soon. :^)
