Final Sale Is Back {Summer Bummer!}

"Thanks!" to many of you, including Kristin (in this post) and MegCrew (in this post), who let us know the following {sad} news from this morning.

With Summer in full swing, J.Crew thought it was best to bring back Final Sale (click here to shop online). That means customers cannot return and exchange sale-priced items purchased online (& in brick & mortar stores).

Honestly, I won't be buying anything on sale online for awhile. My last few online purchases with sale merchandise all had to be returned because of serious issues of fit, length, and quality. But maybe J.Crew will drastically reduce prices to move out merchandise. Let's hope anyways.

Did you check out the Final Sale section today? Were you able to snag any amazing deals? If so, please share! :)

  1. I will look -- I always do -- but unless it's something I REALLY want, I'll pass on final sale.

Do we still think the holiday weekend will bring us extra 30? When will it show up, Sunday night into Monday? Hmmm....

  2. Elaine-I thought that it was you who raved about the lace-over tank. I'm thinking of biting on it if we get an extra % off again, but now with final sale I need to do some research! I usually do an XS, or 2 in JCrew tanks, camis...do you think that these fit TTS or are they running a little small due to the lace? Thanks a million!

  3. The sweater I have been wanting to try finally made it back in to the sale section again this morning now that it's final sale...looks like I won't be getting it after all.

  4. Well, just to be a repeat, but the way JCrew does Final Sales just boggles my mind...some stores only do this to items that have been on sale for a looong time, & are really reduced. JCrew sale items are not only fully stocked in lots of sizes, but are still really high priced, like 20% off original. Some shoes are still $100 or >. Throw in inconsistent sizing....what a mess!

  5. The only good thing about final sale is that my credit card bill is significantly lower. Until final sale is over, no more online buying for me!

  6. I won't even be looking. I did not look last final sale either. It is sad. I had a free shipping code on my account through July 1 and was hoping to purchase an item but will not now. I was hoping final sale would at least last through the end of June! Was going to place and order today with code. NOT NOW! J.Crew lost a sale.

  7. Whew--I am so glad I got an order in before FS hit! Especially because I will be taking back the Eyelet pencil skirt in caspian night. Total fail!

  8. Lisa G, I tried on the lace-over tank when it first came out and sized down. I've been waiting for this one, too.

  9. Boo!! No FS shopping for me.

    and sub :)

  10. AppGal--I know wasn't the eyelet pencil skirt terrible. I got the ivory color and it is completely see-through, so thin.

Thankfully I placed two big orders during the 30 off promo, before final sale. I have several items to return and so glad I'm not stuck with them.

  11. Summer Bummer indeed! I've had too many misses with J.Crew lately. I'll be avoiding final sale unless one particular item pops back. There are some great sales at local shops so I'll be shopping here instead.

  12. @LisaG, I have the lace over tank and I think it runs really big. I will say that I've been losing some weight, so my sizing estimates may be off, but I thought it was too big before I started to diet.

  13. Does anyone have record of when summer final sale ended and regular fall sale began??? Just wondering......thank you.

  14. (original)Genny: It wasn't until October 21 of last year, so if history repeats itself again, we have a long time to wait...

  15. Ok, why do they say on the website "Introducing Final Sale"? Like it's some great thing they're giving us?! Give me a break! I've learned my lesson the hard way. When I buy FS, I inevitably wind up w/stuff I don't want and can't return. No thanks this time. I'm going to be strong and just say no.

  16. Pass, pass, pass. Like others, I won't even bother to look at sale section during final sale, and since there doesn't seem to be a point in purchasing full price from J.Crew (such quick markdowns!) then I guess I won't be looking at the site at all for a while....

I just bought a tee yesterday at Talbots, it was final sale, but I could tell from tag it was on its third markdown. No problem with this practice. AT also doesn't tag anything final sale for several markdowns. It's ludicrous of j.crew to not have a staggered system, and no doubt it costs them some sales.

  17. Fabulous Florida Mommy,

I was counting on the fact that you would know:) Yes, a long wait indeed:( I will check back in Oct.
I just refuse to buy final sale after lots of bad luck and I made it through the whole final sale last time around! Glad I bought the floral skirt when it was marked down with the 30% off last week. My last buy for a long while...unless I get to a store which only happens every 2-3 months.

  18. LisaG, the lace-over tank actually runs a slight bit big. I sized down to a Small and I usually wear a Medium. I bought one for my mom and I sized down for her also, from S to XS, and it fit perfectly. HTHs! Mine arrived the other day, I love them so. :)

  19. Lisa G - Irl pics of the lace-over tank here, here and here.

JCAs don't let JCAs shop final sale without links to irl pics.

  20. Blech. My store is still doing 30% off sale (as of yesterday) and the in store sale prices are often lower than online, so there's really no reason for me to even look at final sale online.

I also just remembered that Banana tried doing final sale for a minute, but things were really marked down. Even so, they apparently scrapped the whole idea. Good for them!

  21. Lisa G, if you take an XS or a size 2 in JC tops, go for XXS in the lace-over tank. I took an XS and I have broader shoulders than most, but also fit nicely in an XXS. You can search on my blog for this to see a photo. HTH

    I also hate Final Sale.

  22. Hate final sale. It's just a ridiculous practice for them to apply to pieces that are fairly new. I really try to stay away, unless something super-wishlisted pops back, drastically drops, and that I've already tried on for size.

  23. A big thanks to all of you who chimed in about the lace-over tank...this is such a wonderful community and I'm very grateful for all of your advice! I also hate the final sale. I'm a SAHM on a tight clothing budget and just can't risk purchasing items that can't be returned-especially when it's not a super sale price. We must stay strong!! At least I'll know if I cave on the tank, to purchase the XXS. Thanks again!

I wonder if we'll see an influx of current JCrew merchandise on eBay in the next few months...items listed by poor people who have learned the hard way about JCrew's dreaded final sale (aka me...last fall!)

  24. So sad, I wanted to order a sale dress I've already purchased 2x in different sizes, neither of which fit, but how can I rationalize final sale on an item for which I clearly don't know my size? (And of course it's catalog/online only.) JC's sizing continues to be all over the map and varies widely from item to item, and it's just not worth the risk after you've been burned enough times. I get that I'm only one person, but I'm making a statement against final sale by refusing to buy from it. Period. It's a terrible policy that needs to go away for good.

  25. I thought I had left a comment but I don't know where it went... Anyway I went to the Rock Center and Madison Ave stores and got the featherweight cashmere crewneck in the heather green color ($69.99), a Jackie in the organic green color (yes, I missed some green in my closet) for $27, the shortcut sweater in a slate color that I had never seen before (very cute!) for $31 and the Cosabella cami for $17. Also got the Oxford shirts in retro orange for $21 even if they are still fp in store. BTW the Toggle cardigan is $49.99 and really cute if you are spending the summer at the beach.

  26. crazy, every store at the mall has 40% off markdowns with no FS, and JC has final sale with just one markdown??

check out GAP and Talbots this weekend and Ann Taylor they really, really want you to buy

    does J Crew

  27. Dara,

I agree with you. I bought the same skirt in the same size and the waist was at least an inch difference in the skirts this summer. I will not order final sale either. Too inconsistent in sizing and too high of price for not being able to return. I held out for the last final sale and did not buy. Am planning on doing it again.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Sad. I would like to buy some suiting but sizing is too inconsistent for me to risk it with final sale. The last 4 items I have bought I have had to return due to sizing being off.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Sizing help! I tried the bootcut jeans in store in my regular 26 and they fit really well, and I ordered them online but a 26 short as the regular were sold out. NOW, has anyone noticed a difference in fit between the regular length & short? The short are fitting a bit smaller, like shrunken all around the way a petite would be.

Anyone experience this or is it just me?

    ReplyDelete
  30. FYI- Shortcut sweaters are still marked 44.99 in store but are 29.99 online so you should definitely request they call catalogue (which they did for me and brought it down to 20.99 which is a good deal for this sweater)

On a side note - I bought the Silk Sophie and then bough it again on sale in the SAME size and there was an inch difference in the chest and length. WTF. Even if you have tried on something in store and order it final sale - it might not actually be the size it is marked!

  31. If Final Sale is on until October, as I've read in these comments, that is just CRAZY, because I'm not buying Final Sale online. No wonder JC's numbers are plummeting! They are driving shoppers away with this Final Sale craziness.

  32. Sorry I posted this first in the "new colors" listing..
    I'm a newbie!

Bought the cashmere isabel sweatshirt in a few colors during the 30% off. Runs REALLy big but I love oversized so small worked. The kelly green, called pond green was not the same soft quality as the other colors...
    anyone else buy this sweater!?!
    And..
who would swim in a pond that was THAT shade of green!'
    Happily it wasn't final sale!

  33. OperaRach,

Yes, my point exactly. I bought two skirts both the same item number and size "Just in Case" and glad I did b/c there is a difference in waist size between the exact same skirts. So happy I can return one!

    Refuse to buy final sale.

    ReplyDelete
  34. No final sale for me either; guess I won't be shopping the sale section until October :( I did place a large order yesterday ordering several sizes of items I knew I wanted anticipating the dreaded Final Sale - will be doing a large return when I determine what fits and what doesn't.

Went to Talbots today; 40% off sale prices and returnable within 90 days. Guess who got my money?

Wake up JCrew; you're not all that anymore. Your loyal shoppers have other options and are using them.

(hee hee - my verification words is "poons" - exactly what final sale does to the JCrew customer.

  35. Well...as much as I am anti final sale as the rest of you here...I made a purchase. Finally, finally scored a pair of Mara Wedges. I wanted the rose dusk as I have posted on the looking to find for months and months, but had to settle for the cobblestone. Now begins the waiting game to see if my order is canceled.

  36. Man, glad I just returned about $600 worth of ill-fitting sale items. This should help my credit card bill - thanks J.Crew.
