The email above features the not-yet-officially-released-online Crystal and Pearl Pastiche Necklace (Item 22596; $135.00). J.Crew describes the necklace as:
A lush twist of textures—hand-set crystals and hand-knotted acrylic pearls with dark-gold ox-plated and 14K gold-plated brass chains (pearl) or hand-set Czech glass stones and hand-knotted acrylic pearls with dark rose-gold ox-plated and rose gold¿plated brass chains (pink frost). Signature spring clasp closure. Import. Length: 22"Not sure what to make of the necklace... it could either be hot or a hot mess. I have to see it in person to figure out which description best fits it. ;) On a bright note, this email only confirms that new arrivals will be available online soon. {wahoo!}
What are your thoughts on the necklace? Do you like the style- from the crystals to the brass chains to the stones?
I love the brass and pearls but not so much the rhinestones. It looks like a cute holiday necklace for friend parties...... not work or family.
ReplyDeleteHonestly, I have seen very similar at Forever 21 and it runs between $8-$10. I definitely know there's a big quality difference but not enough for me to be concerned about the random few wearings this would get. If a person thought they would wear it a significant amount then the investment might be worth the JC price.
ReplyDeleteI saw this in person today and it is quite lovely! It doesn't fit into my lifestyle, but if it did, I would own it. There's also a matching bracelet and a set in "rose gold." My JC was unpacking new jewelry and I bought a new necklace - lots of chains with three small fireballs scattered throughout. LOVE! I also tried on a new black and rhinestone ring that I like as well - I hope it shows up online, since the jewelry sells well at my b&m.

ReplyDeleteI just saw this necklace, but in the pink frost color (the one in the picture is the pearl color according to the website). I liked it, but I agree with Cari, it would be a special occasion or holiday party accessory. When I saw in the email, I thought it would be really big, but surprisingly it is not and it is lovely.
ReplyDeleteSee? These emails are proof that there is no benefit to being a cardmember.
ReplyDeleteOT:
ReplyDeleteDoes the NY Collection store carry bags that are only available online?
Thanks!
I hope my B&M gets this one in because I'd love to see it IRL. It looks lovely in the pic...so far I like it. :)
ReplyDeleteI LOVE Jcrew jewelry but my first thought was, ummm, no. After reading the comments from those who saw it IRL though I will look for it at my B&M
ReplyDeleteFinally, being a cardmember pays off for me. I'm always the jealous one reading about everyone else receiving freebies. Today I received my first gift from jcrew-a pair of the heirloom flora earrings for being one of their "very best customers." I have not purchased much of anything from jcrew for a few months. I also got a card with a special cardmember number to call and a note that says to "keep an eye out for emails introducing our special benefits."
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful earrings! A little heavy for me, but gorgeous. Has anyone else received a gift??
Congrats on receiving the earrings, Julie! Alexis posted about JCAs receiving this gift last week ... Click here to read. It was so nice of J.Crew to send such a lovely gift :) Hope you enjoy them!
ReplyDeleteI just got the earrings today. But with the amount of $$$ I spend in that store, they ought to send me earrings every month! Still, very nice.
ReplyDeleteI also got a pair of the heirloom earrings yesterday.
ReplyDeleteThanks lilaccupcake--when I stop shopping jcrew, I stop reading JCA! I guess I'm more than a week behind Alexis and the rest of the JCAs.
ReplyDeleteI think the gold necklace is beautiful as well, but I don't have anywhere to wear such a statement piece.
I have a tough time spending that much on costume jewelry.
ReplyDeleteThe necklace is beautiful but I thought it was a little bit much (as far as the look) of it when I tried it on... so I went for the bracelet version in rose gold instead! I absolutely love it! It's not too flashy and I think I can wear it on a day to day.
ReplyDelete<3
I really like this! But Banana Republic has similar necklaces and bracelets for less (most under $100). I've had good luck with the quality of BR's jewelry.
ReplyDeleteThis is one of those pieces that I love looking at but know I would never wear. It might be fun with a holiday dress, or a wedding.
ReplyDeleteOh, I am such a sucker for these darn statement necklaces. :) I went ahead and ordered the pink frost (which from the looks of it should be nice against the olives I own in my closet). I DO wear these necklaces a lot, and I don't reserve it just for special occasions, so for me, this is a no-brainer, but I can see why some ladies would put off purchasing it!!!
ReplyDeleteI tried searching for it by using the term pastiche and even the item number and I was not able to find it that way...I had to click through the actual e-mail to get the page to load. Hmm...
I look forward to reviewing it on my blog...if I ever find the time (seems to be in short supply these days). :) Have a great Saturday, all!
I am glad that Alexis was able to provide a link because I still am unable to access the info on this necklace through the search function (either keywords or item number). Although I clicked through the e-mail I was sent to order it, if you do not get cardmember e-mails this link appears to be the only way to find this on their website! You rock, Alexis...
ReplyDeleteRegarding the gift of earrings that JC is sending out, my ps told me that some are trying to return them for the cash. And, remember those 25% off cards? Well, Mickey was in a store and saw customers handing them back through the line. He was not happy, since he sent them to "certain good customers" so that could be why no card this fall. I'm still hoping we get one though; I mentioned that to my ps and he said he'd mention it in their meeting. Btw, some "higher ups" recently visited our store and really liked it, so it's moving up a notch on the level system. I'm hoping that means they'll carry more shoes and some of the "higher end" clothing items.
ReplyDeleteI just picked it up tonight. I love it and plan to wear it with my normal jeans, cardigan and tee. I'll post pictures on my blog. All the new jewelry is gorgeous!!!
ReplyDeleteMath Teacher,
ReplyDeleteOne of the sales assoc also mentioned their visit from corporate. I had asked about the leather ruffle gloves when I was checking out. She said they did not carry them, but hoped to carry more items in the future due to the corporate visit. Very interesting.
Leader, we'll keep our fingers crossed. I just hope we don't lose crewcuts - I enjoy shopping for my niece and nephew. They had the peekaboo sequin cardi, which is not something they would normally carry, so hopefully more items will show up there with each roll out.
ReplyDeleteI tried it on today at my local B&M and it is a no for me. I was just not that crazy about it.
ReplyDeleteThis reminds me of the twist-a-beads I wore in the 80s. Nothx!
ReplyDeleteI like it! I would wear it with everything this fall. It does remind me a bit of a tangled mess we pulled out of my grandmother's jewelry box last spring. . . but in a good way ;)
ReplyDeleteok, off topic, but...wasn't there supposed to be a new rollout this weekend? I was in the store at Columbus Circle in NY today, and while there were a few new things, nothing wowed me. A TON of sparkly teeshirts and that was it. so strange. I asked the SA about it, and she said, oh, we just did a new roll out on Thursday...the next won't be for a few more weeks. Does she just not know what she is talking about? Weird?!
ReplyDeleteJC - regardless, the SAs at Columbus Circle B&M are perhaps the worst in NYC. Some JCAs said recently that they were standoff-ish or pushy.
ReplyDeleteI was told that it was just a preview of the holiday rollout
ReplyDeleteOK, I am CRAZY for most of the J. Crew Statement Necklaces (except that little Atomic number...) but I'm thinking I would go with your "hot mess" option on this one, Alexis. It looks like what happens when I take off a multi necklace ensemble at the gym in a hurry, put it in my bag, and pull it all out a couple day's later.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, my B&M is in the 3rd World ranking of J. Crew stores and I'll never see it IRL to confirm...
I love the Crystal Lattice necklace; love the Crystal Pyramid too, but this, to me, looks like when your necklaces get hopelessly tangled in the jewelry box. It probably looks very different IRL.
ReplyDeleteI agree on the "rollout that never was". Not very many new items at all. I exchanged a sweater for the heather carbon schoolboy blazer though and that was good.
I saw the necklace in store today and thought it was really cute. I wouldn't pay that much for it, but I might pick it up on sale. I work in a casual/creative office so it would totally work for me with a lot of looks. Saw some other "edgier" new necklaces out that I haven't seen online yet - very cool! I like the direction JC is going this season!
ReplyDeleteYeah, I had the same reaction as Laura - this necklace looks like my jewelry drawer after a bad shuffle. I'm someone out there will rock this look, but it's a pass for me.
ReplyDeleteI just saw a similar necklace at Target today: Multi Strand Faux Pearl Twist Necklace - Goldtone" . It's very pretty IRL, too. :)
ReplyDeleteThese tangled/mixed up necklaces are everywhere. Some look interesting and wearable, others look gaudy. I don't think this one works very well because it is too planned with its symmetry, which belies the purpose of wearing a montage of different components.
ReplyDeleteFFM,
ReplyDeleteWow- this may be the first time I've actually preferred a Target design over a similar J. Crew design. Thanks for the pic!
I saw one that is nearly identical to this in Ann Taylor Loft yesterday. It was $44.50. I don't see it on the website but it truly looks just like this. I think they're both just ok, and like Preppy Sue, I find it hard to spend this amount on costume jewelry, so I won't be purchasing this.
ReplyDeleteI like the Target one FFM posted. Thanks for letting us know. I may have to check it out.
ReplyDeleteIt maybe pretty on some other JCA's. I actually prefer understated necklaces so this one from JC is a pass for me especially at this price point. I'd rather save $$ and get me some real Tiffany's.
Hi Alexis!
ReplyDeleteI've added pics from the Nov. catalog to my blog!
www.mybagoverfloweth.blogspot.com
Enjoy!
I would say it's a hot mess. As I have said on previous occasions, I'd rather have just 1 real pearl necklace than 200 "pastiche" cheap looking ones. :(
ReplyDeleteKathryn, would you mind letting me know the name of the animal print skirt on the first page of Jenna's picks. It looks fabulous but I could not read any of the info.
ReplyDeleteTIA
KATHRYN - THANKS FOR THE NOV. PREVIEW!
ReplyDeleteFFM - wow, that Target one is spot on! Talk about a look for less.
ReplyDeletei'm in the hot mess category. plus, the gold plated brass chains look cheap to me. and i agree with a lot of folks that even if i did like it, there wouldn't be many times i could wear it, so no way would i spend that much money on occasional jewelry.
ReplyDeleteKathryn: Thank you so much for sharing those images with us all!!! Yey for new catalog!!! :)
