"Thanks!" to many of you, including Marietta, who let us know about J.Crew's latest email, sent this morning.
J.Crew is showcasing their knit dresses, by featuring the Dressy Jersey Strapless Dress (Item 14982; $78.00). Although I have not tried on this particular dress, I am a big fan of J.Crew's jersey viscose fabric (refer to the "Product Review: Dressy Jersey Grecian V-neck Long Dress" and "Product Review: Flowy Jersey Bateau Dress" posts).
What are your thoughts on the Dressy Jersey Strapless Dress? Do you like or dislike? Are you a fan of J.Crew's jersey viscose fabric?
FYI,
ReplyDeleteThe Milla Gown, item 11729, is now marked down $200 to $299 for anyone who fell in love with it.
I like this dress! I actually just got the twist front bandeau swimsuit - the top is exactly the same as this dress :)
ReplyDeleteBy the way Alexis, I just started a blog - would you mind adding it to your blogroll?
ApproprieThanks!
Although I loved the flowy jersey bateau dress from last summer, I'm not crazy about the dressy jersey strapless dress. Unforunately, its not very figure flattering for me since I'm bigger on top. I'm hoping in the later summer rollouts, we see a jersey version of the popular strapless beach dress. It has a much more forgiving bust line.
ReplyDeleteI tried this on, I thought it was very flattering and am waiting for it to go on sale. One weird thing - it has a detachable strap but the strap is super long, wouldn't help hold up the dress unless shortened.
ReplyDeleteI'm with JCREWGAL on this one. I love love love jersey dresses as a rule, but this one screams "droop city" to the more bountifully endowed among us. I know this one is cute on others, but I'll have to pass.
ReplyDeleteI love this dress! It runs big, but is so incredibly flattering. I also found the removable strap to be pointless, it's way too long. The twisted top is really really cute on! I just wish they had the papaya color in my B&M
ReplyDeleteI love it! I've worn the gray 3 times already and the papaya once :) ...with the chandelier necklace as pictured, and a cardi. Pretty colors.
ReplyDeleteVery cute! I will wait for it to go on sale though.
ReplyDeleteLoved it on the hanger, not so much on me. (I really wanted to love it!) I'm in agreement with the busty comments- not so good on the well endowed girls. My other complaint is the heavy jersey fabric. For me, it seems to cling to all the wrong spots, showing many lumps and bumps. I'd rather have a lighter knit that skimmed the body. More flattering, IMO. My good friend bought it at a recent shopping event and it looked way cute on her- minus the weird neck strap thingy.
ReplyDeletei haven't tried on the strapless dress yet (i'm a little afraid of 'em) but I am a fan of other jersey dresses in general. Esp. those from other seasons...the Lisa dress & Tie-front dress are my two favorites.
ReplyDeletelove it, but wish it would go on sale...:)
ReplyDeleteIs it too soon to start wondering when next new delivery will arrive? I'm hoping for cute shorts!
ReplyDeleteNichi: Thanks for the heads up on the Milla- it is a gorgeous dress! :)
ReplyDeleteStacie: I added your site to the blog roll! :)
JCrewGal & CheesyGoodness & AppGal: Good call on the strapless part! I am small in the bust area- and still J.Crew's strapless dresses concern me. I was curious if this strapless dress really stays up.
Cortney_Joy: I didn't know this dress has a detachable strap- that is definitely a plus. Although the length of the straps sound like their still an issue.
SparrowsAndSparkles: Congrats on the dress- the colors are gorgeous! Do you wear them with the straps?
JBird: Sorry to hear the dress didn't work out. :(
Mrs. Anketell: Knowing J.Crew it will go on sale soon! ;)
Cortney_Joy: I think someone on the blog mentioned the end of this month. :)
The jersey dresses are cute, but the lack of tailoring is very apparent in the unstructured fit. The dresses show every lump and bump as JBird says, because they just hang down and cling wherever. The colors are nice and the material is comfortable, but it doesn't stand up over time. To me, these always look like beach cover-ups. A little too sloppy-casual for my taste.
ReplyDeletetried on the dark charcoal ~ love it, but waiting for a sale. I returned the croc jacket, bec. the 4 was too big, and got instead at ann taylor loft: offwhite jacket that Gigi reviewed, black/white polka dot skirt, and navy khakis for same price as jacket. I am taking a break from Jcrew, until newer stuff goes on sale.
ReplyDeleteOT: I was at the South Coast Plaza B&M (Costa Mesa, CA) and there was this cardigan that looked very similar to the cascading ruffles Astrid. It was short sleeve 100% cotton (very thin/see through) and the chiffon ruffles/petals went all the way down the front buttons, but not around the collar. So beautiful. They only had 2 left: small in ivory and medium in a color that was a bit brighter than tea rose. The price is $88. Apparently, it sold out within a week of arrival. Fits TTS. Wish I took a picture. If anyone's interested, the store # is 714 979 2739
ReplyDeleteI like the top of this dress and the material. I plan on trying it out after this months shopping ban.
ReplyDeleteZoelicious: That sounds like the 'Cascadia Cardigan' that is supposed to be released in June. You can see it in the Collection Lookbook on the website. But that one is cashmere, so maybe thats the cotton version, too. Can't wait to see it IRL!
ReplyDeleteI think this dress is very pretty. I would buy it on sale but not full price. To me--$78 is pricey for a knit dress. If it was cotton or another other more substainal fabric then a definite buy now!
ReplyDeleteAppgal...I know what you mean about being afraid of strapless dresses! My friend refuses to wear them and I cannot blame either of you:) LOL
I got this in the charcoal and the navy and am loving them. It is strapless, but it has the removable strap so it doesn't *have* to be strapless. I did tie a know at the back of the strap on mine, though, for more support. I live in these kind of dresses in the summer, so it was worth it to me. And it has the nice boning in the side of the bodice/bust to give some extra support and make it less likely to roll down, which is what worried me about the Sanur. Of course, I did use the Mickey card to get 25% off. Without it, I probably would have only gotten 1.
