La Belle Helene came up with a great topic for a post (in the "Be Back Soon... I Remember You! ;)" post): "what awesome items did you get from Fall 2007" which I thought could be updated to "what awesome items did you get from Fall 2008"?
J.Crew definitely offered some really beautiful pieces (I just love the university trouser leg pants!), some really questionable pieces (did I mention how much I dislike those bug pins?), and some overly hyped pieces (were the Ecole jackets really "the IT" jacket this season?). It would be great to hear everyone's take on what items Aficionadas/ Aficionados consider J.Crew's "best items" purchased this Fall season.
Personally, I really like one particular J.Crew Fall item that is still available- the Chiffon rosette belt. I know- what a small and insignificant item compared to some other options- but I love them! The belts are super cute and available in great color combinations. Moreover, I have been wearing the belts in multiple ways: (1) worn around the hips (with pants and jeans); (2) worn around the waist to cinch up a loose fitting jacket (like the Herringbone Fiona) and around dresses; and (3) worn as a hair accessory to cinch up a ponytail. I was able to get all four colors for less than $4 each as they were on sale in-stores for $9.99 plus an additional 40% off, plus another 15% off for the teacher's discount. I can't understand why J.Crew's online store has yet to put these belts on sale though.
What are your favorite items from this Fall season (and why)? Would you recommend fellow Aficionadas/ Aficionados to also purchase the items you selected as favorites?
The watercolor floral belle skirt depicted on your photo. Love the style, the fabric, the print.
ReplyDeleteSecond favorite is the orange Lucille. I haven't been able to wear it yet with the 80 degree weather at CA, but looking forward to it.
Hi Everyone,
ReplyDeleteI just got the Wool Herringbone Astrid in Sweet Potato. I tried it on in the store. I must say I am SO in love with it. I never thought I would own an orange jacket, but soon I will, and I am thrilled about it.
And while it was an early fall release, I do love my "dog-tee." I can't believe they made a T-shirt that looks like the best mutt that ever lived. I wear it all the time and it makes me think of my best friend and it makes me miss him a little less!
I am not a fan of most of their sweaters this season :( The fits just aren't right--- they all seem to be either boxy or very long and not fitted.
OT, for BR luxe cardholders and Gap silver cardholders--get 20% off $150 or more at BR.com with code NEWLOOK. They are also doing triple rewards points right now and of course free shipping.
ReplyDeleteI have been waiting and waiting on a good heavy coat, like the Felicia or the Greta. I am hoping that it will fit really well and be my favorite fall item, because I think they are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI really like my silvie dress too.
-Navy velvet Ecole
ReplyDelete-Craphic tee with shoe and crystal beads
-Dream tie cardigan in eggplant
-Tartine cardigan in heather mushroom
Just wondering if those bug pins were for sale in store for $1, how many of us might buy one and wear it? I probably would for $1, but not more ;)
ReplyDeleteI'd like to say the Italian Slim suit, but I haven't received it yet.
ReplyDeleteargyle - Wouldn't wear the pin. Not even for a buck. You can't even tell what it is. Nice try for asking, though. *lol*
ReplyDeleteI champion...
* herringbone fiona in sweet potato
* merino v-neck sweater in bright colors is such a great basic. I use wardrobe tape to hold mine in place at the shoulder so the V is not too low and I can go camiless.
* Georgia dress - just recvd and blogged about
* Peplum cord jacket in navy - nuts over the pleated back
* ruffle henly - I've only worn mine a couple of times but get many compliments

ReplyDelete1. Cashmere hoodie (98631)-I had to have it. It can be worn with pretty much anything; I plan on traveling in it.
ReplyDelete2. Cashmere hoodie (84747) in orange (thanks FFM for the set you created for it). The color looks in person much more like one of the orange colors in the "cashmere boutique".
3. Fiona!
4. matchstick cord ( 2 colors so far-acorn and black)
5. scarves!!! (Long washed-silk scarf and ombre washed wool scarf in light pewter)
6. city tee cardigans (v.cute)
7. Sherpa-lined goosedown puffer vest (I haven't bought any coats yet but I am hoping to get feedback from people who have have so I can get one...)

ReplyDeleteRegarding bug pins-I was supposed to go to London this week and I pictured myself wearing "bug pins" on a coat in Europe....I almost started laughing :((
ReplyDeleteWas wondering how you manage to keep the rosette in place on the belts? I tried wearing mine a couple of times, but never quite managed to get it to work... also do you just tie a simple ribbon in the back? cos the ribbon belt is so long... thanks for any suggestions at all!
ReplyDeleteCASS,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the coupon codes. JCrew has left a bad taste in my mouth with the censorship of the necklace post so I think I will shop at BR and GAP today!
So far my favorites for the year are
ReplyDelete1. Featherweight merino glass button cardigan in royal violet
2. Pintuck jersey scoopneck tee and
3. High heel flare jeans
Andrea Jacket in Honey Glaze.
ReplyDeleteOrange Lucille.
Jackie Cardigan in Honey Glaze and Bright Blue.
Serengeti Skinny Belt.
Silky Jersey Pleated Tops.
The plum berry Astrid.
ReplyDeleteThe Simone snow leopared Peacoat.
FFM:
ReplyDeleteDo you own the orange Lucille? If so, what shade/brightness is the orange to you?
FFM:
ReplyDeleteP.S. do you find it itchy at all....thanks:)
Ooh, I'll play! Great post!
ReplyDelete1. Double-serge pencil skirt (96477) - I know I've raved about these in other posts, but I can't say enough good things about this flattering, well cut, beautiful skirt! Fits TTS, I'd say - .com says that it fits lower on the waist, but IMHO you'd have to size up to get that effect. My size fit right at the waist, which is fine with me. Color selection = wonderful. I've worn them with basic black, white, or a top in a similar color to the skirt for that great tonal look JC has been doing this season. Love, love, LOVE these!
2. Dream argyle cardigan (97051) - I feel like JC has kind of missed the mark with argyle cardigans in past seasons, but this one is perfect for me. In particular, I like the 3/4 sleeves, and the buttons that look similar to the ones on the Tartine. Fit is not as boxy as last seasons, S fit great and XS would've been too small. It's very versatile, I've worn with skirts, jeans, trousers. The neutral black/graphite/chartreuse is a great color combo.
3. Juliet midheels (96716) - I can't thank JC enough for lowering the heel sizes this season (I can do 3, 3.5, but any higher is just TOO much). The Juliets are wonderful - similar in shape to last year's Teutas, but with a little more room in the toe. Fits TTS, and you may be able to go up a half size if you're in between. They felt a little uncomfortable the first day, but after breaking them in I reach for them often. HOWEVER, I did get the Juliet safari midheels (97889) as well and these are a half size too small - ouch! Keep in mind if you decide to order. Both are great looking shoes with a perfect heel - I can even RUN in these. ;)
4. Lulu leather peep toes (96727) - Wow, a comfortable JC heel? I could hardly believe it myself! The 3" heel is completely wearable for an everyday heel person, and the bow is really cute and unexpected. I didn't find any quality issues with it like some other Aficionadas did, and think these will look just as cute with tights later in the fall. I got the Dark Cloud, and found that they comfortably fit TTS.
5. Heavy-wool piqué Felicia coat (95841) - I tried this on in the store in Rhubarb and was not impressed by the color or the "fuzzy" fabric. However, I did get it in Navy and think it is a great go-to coat for fall and early winter. Comfortably fits TTS, some may be turned off by the pleating in the back, I think it's cute. I guess my only complaint would be that it feels like their coat linings aren't as substantial as they could be - especially in the pockets. I like to put my hands in my pockets and it feels like over time, the lining wouldn't handle that. Nothing that can't be repaired, but still!
6. Soirée laminated-canvas bag (97152) - Got this bag on a whim when they had the 40% sale, and I'm glad I did - It's fully lined (OMG!) and very roomy, I can fit a soft textbook and some file folders in it. It has a back pocket and a magnetic closure, and can be folded in at the sides to make it more compact (kind of like the Uptown Totes, but without the side snaps). The laminated fabric is cute (got the dark cloud), and the leather handles are quite nice and well-sewn. Not quite worth full price IMO, but on sale it was a good buy and a cute fall piece!
That's my take on Fall 2008 - there were some hits and misses, the prices were high, and the quality wasn't always there, but I had fun looking around. Unfortunately, my B&M didn't have a great selection and I didn't order much from .com because of the exhorbitant shipping costs and major price discrepancies. With the exceptions of #1 and #6, my fall JC shopping was done on eBay (with savings of at least 30% per item!).
Anon @6:19: The color of the Orange Lucille reminds me of the Bright Flame Tulip jacket, only a bit more muted...it is GORGEOUS!!! I don't feel it is nearly as bright as some have described and no where NEAR a traffic cone orange. I also do not find it to be itchy, but haven't worn it for an extended period of time since it's still 90 something degrees here. I did wear it in the house with a sleeveless tank and didn't have a problem with itchiness. I would say it is my FAVORITE Fall item so far, and if it came in Black or Camel I would pay FULL PRICE for it...yes, I love it that much! HTH! :)
ReplyDeleteFFM:
ReplyDeleteThank you for your reply. Appreciate it:)
Also, I am thinking a more neutral color like camel or black might be better for a coat color. I just can't seem myself wearing the orange as much but if it did go down further in price I would consider the Lucille. Cute style but needs a neutral color choice or two! Will wait for a super sale later ....
ReplyDeleteanyone have a jackie in honey glaze they'd like to sell me? i could do a small or xs. thanks!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the vintage cord skirt in honey glaze. It looks so good paired with a darker color like heather grey, navy, etc. It's surprisingly versatile!
ReplyDeleteOkay, pretty much anything in the honey glaze color. They really did well with that color this season.
WHAT?? J. Crew removed the necklace post?
ReplyDeleteCompletely random thought...but I was lying in bed last night trying to fall asleep, and this thought shot through my mind that it would be really fun to have a post that discussed how we "fell in love" with j.crew. Kind of like our j.crew testimony...the moment we knew it was the store for us :) With the group of diverse people who participate in this blog, I'm sure there would be all kinds of responses, and I know I'd be interested to read them :) Just a thought...
ReplyDeleteI loved reading everyone's picks for Favorite Fall J.Crew item- especially since there is still time to purchase many of those items!!! :)
ReplyDeleteArgyle: I hate to say this, but I totally see that bug pin being sold for $1! I hope J.Crew didn't make large quantities of those pins. ;)
AppGal: I love that idea: when we fell in love with J.Crew! I will be sure to have a post on that topic in the next few days. :)
The sweater in the picture in this post. It's great. Also the cotton cricket sweater which sold out.
ReplyDeleteThanks for making this an entry, Alexis :-)
ReplyDeleteI'm loving my watercolor floral schoolgirl skirt from this fall's collection. I pair it with a charcoal tartan crest tee from last fall, my black abby jacket, a pair of black pumps, and a long pearl necklace knotted.
I loved the blue watercolor print the second I saw it, and first thought I'd get the tank - but after trying it on, I hated how boxy it looked on me, and I really didn't like the zipper. I ordered the skirt, and it's a perfect fit :-)
-wool jersey stephanie dress in graphite.
ReplyDelete-felted wool mini in royal violet
-vintage cord skirt in honey glaze, love it! so flattering
-the crosshatch print skirt (yellow)
other than skirts, I tend to stick to the more traditional jcrew items-- cable knit sweaters, button down tailored shirts, bootcut cords, peacoats, etc.
not sure what happened to my post, hope i didn't stick it in the wrong spot:
ReplyDeletehere are my faves,
the ruffle henley tissue tee
the beaded glass necklace in dk fog (it's the one with half ribbons and half glass beads), it's such a versatile piece and i want to get it in the green/jade too
the vintage boatneck fleece top
the cashmere peplum sweater
1. Watercolor floral belle skirt
ReplyDelete2. Denim straight skirt...I have worn it every week since I bought it.
3. Jackie cardigan in bright blue
4. Chino cooper jacket
5. Vintage cord skirt in honey glaze
appgal, Love the idea....my moment was after the birth of my daughter my body shaped changed completely even though I lost all my weight and was the same weight....anyway, it was JCrew's low rise jeans that did it for me...next was the chinos.....that was my AHHH moment:)
ReplyDeleteJulie
Lucille in BOTH colors!! I just love the way this coat fits, and how comfortable it is!
ReplyDeleteAndrea in Honey Glaze (but I may get the Rhubarb as well!)
Cooper jacket in British Khaki (so versatile and looks so nice that I also got it in Rhubarb!)
Jackie cardis in Maple, Honey Glaze and Bright Blue
Black Chiffon Rose Tee (I like to wear this with my Turquoise Schoolgirl Sweater or my Rhubarb Tartine cardi)
Lydia blouse in Rhubarb (thanks FFM!!), Fog (w/Silver Tartine cardi), Orange (w/Hazelnut cashmere cardi), Navy and Peacock...these just look so feminine and are so comfortable!
Butterfield in Silver (love it with Peacock)
Silky Jersey tanks (so versatile!)
melissa- i have a jackie cardigan in honey glaze (XS) i am willing to part with. however, i don't have an ebay account so the transaction itself might be a different story...
ReplyDeleteMy faborite is wool tuesday trench. It is a classic piece of jcrew style.
ReplyDeleteMy favorites are:
ReplyDelete1) Double Serge pencil skirt in Ochre
2) Green Plaid Sparkle pencil skirt
3) Lydia in Watercolor Garden & Bright Peacock
4) Ombre ring
5) Dog Critter Argyle cardigan
6) Sparkle Argyle Cardigan
7) Sequin Argyle cardigan in Heather Graphite Navy
8) Dream tie cardigans!
Here are my favorites so far:
ReplyDelete- Lydia in fog, orange, and watercolor
- city-fit watson pants in every color (awesome fit)
- ribbon necklaces in black and golden avocado
- juliet heels in blanced almond
- bootcut cords in coral
- cord skirt in coral
- Long sleeve cashmere tee in hazelnut
There are more, but these get constant wear in my closet. Can't wait for the Holiday collection!
Alicia
Without a doubt, for me, my favorite item from Fall was the Spicy Mustard Lucille.
ReplyDeleteThe next one I love is the Marcella Blouse in honey glaze. Honey glaze is one of my favorite colors - I think I own three pieces from JC in this color!
What made these items especially lovely (besides the fact that I love the way they look) was I purchased them on sale! :)
OT - I just received my order from Tuesday. It was all final sale and I received every piece. It just showed up today, but the order was never shown as "shipped." I think the web problems with final sale may be coming to an end.
ReplyDeleteAlicia
lydia in dark fog. LOVE LOVE IT!
ReplyDeletevelvet navy ecole (haven't worn it yet)
jackie in bright blue, honey glaze(don't have this color though b/c it sold out!)
rosette tee in teal and slate
juliet heels in black and safari
lulu peep toes in dark cloud
gray belle skirt
wow. looking at this i have spent way too much this season!
This comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeletejoanna- how much do you want for it? i think if you have a paypal account (not necessarily ebay) we can work it out. thanks!
ReplyDeleteMy favorites are the:
ReplyDeleteSparkle Plaid Tweed Pencil Skirt
City-fit Luxe Cord Trousers
Metallic Bouclé Houndstooth Clea Jacket
I want the Duchamp-print Astor Jacket and Cashmere Butterfield Jacket - but not willing to pay the price yet.
Great topic, LBH & Alexis!
ReplyDeleteI buy most of my items on sale, so they probably reflect earlier collections:
-whisper lame tank (though it does need tailoring to look less baggy)
-Patent Leather Mary Jane's
-Academy Cashmere Cardigan (will wait for that $400 price tag to drop)
-Chino Cooper Jacket (I picked up Ruburb, but both colors are excellent)
-Solid Harlow blouse? (I don't own this yet, but I'm VERY tempted to pick it up!)
-Tuesday Wool Trench (I know that this got of well-deserved complaints for not fitting well, but after a quick trip to the tailor, it fits as it should--and I love the end results)
Carrie: Because the belt is so thin, I never use to to actually support to tighten anything. I either wear it over another belt (a soft, wide leather sash belt), or look it through pant/skirt loops.
OT ladies, but I could use your advice:
ReplyDeleteI ordered the Strappy Florence dress (93490) from the final sale. When it arrived, the braiding at the top had separated from the straps, and it would need to be fixed before it can be worn. While I can theoretically take this to a tailor to be fixed, I don't care for the dress enough to spend more money making it wearable. Would it be possible to ask J.crew to take it back for a return? (remember--this was on final sale). I've returned one item on final sale before, but only because it was actually missing a main component (belted jacket missing a belt).
auryane: DEFINITELY call CS and tell them you want to return it...I would actually consider that a defect. You shouldn't have to have a brand new item repaired in order to be able to wear it...I don't think they will have an issue with taking it back. Btw...I'm assuming you don't need a Polyvore set for this dress now?
ReplyDeletemelissa- my email address is tangj@u.northwestern.edu. i think this would be much easier to work out over email! thanks.
ReplyDeleteAlicia,
ReplyDeleteThe web problems would not be coming to a stop if your order arrived without it stating shipped online. I am sorry but your post makes no sense!
Oh boy, too many...
ReplyDeleteMarcella Blouse in Fog (finally grabbed on sale!)
Double Serge Pencil Skirt in Bright Blue
Graphic Slub Tees...I have 4 now, eek
Denim Straight Skirt, so useful
Merino Long Glass Bead Cardigan in Deep Persimmon
I usually judge my favorites by purchases that I find the most usable and versatile! My faves are:
ReplyDeleteFelicia Coat in Rhubarb (great everyday coat - no belt to mess with and great length), Skinny Gold Leather Belt (goes with everything and very nice leather), and Serengeti Tank (a very wearable and unique silk piece that can be paired with just about any color!)
Love these the most - but it's hard to pick only a few!
What I meant was that none of my final sale items were dropped from my order. Also, the order arrived in 4 days - around the time that old orders used to ship in. Sorry for the confusion.
ReplyDeleteAlicia
OT/QUESTION-
ReplyDeleteI LOVE THE RUFFLE HENLEYS TOO-got it in white, plum and slate and they are gorgeous, comfy and all those things. How do you all wear your besides by itself and the obvious jackie or cardi over it--any fun ideas??
Thanks!
I just went to the Northpark J Crew during lunch and I wanted the Tartine Cardi in the Honey Glaze. Of Course they didn't have my size so I used the red phone to call CS. CS told me that J Crew didn't make the Tartine in Honey Glaze even though I read the style # and color code to them from the tag. I was appalled. I've never had a CS that wasn't helpful.
ReplyDeleteanon at 2:25: The tartine comes in two "yellow" colors. One is buttercup and the other is maize. It looks like buttercup is closest to honey glaze. I can't believe the CS wasn't more helpful. Good luck ordering one of these. They are both beautiful!
ReplyDeleteOkay! This fall, I love:
ReplyDelete1. Sequined chiffon ruffle cardigan. It's sold out for good reason. Lovely, soft, un-itchy wool. The dark colors keep it from looking too cutesy with all the decoration. Just a little elegant or playful. It doesn't have the fit problems blumre talked about.
2. My wool double cloth Tuesday Trench, in navy. This replaced my beloved pea coat whose lining was shredded and whose fabric was wearing thin. I had to go down a size. It's very well made, nicely lined, with the most luxurious fabric.
3. Lightweight stretch trouser jean in smooth rinse wash. A trouser jean that's not too baggy, not too slim.
4. Bootcut jeans in premium rinse wash. Grown up jeans.
am I navy, navy, navy or what?
I also adore the Lucille jacket in spicy mustard plus
ReplyDelete- Velvet ecole jacket in honey glaze and tawny olive which dresses up/down really nicely and looks good with a flower clipped to the label, though I think the pockets are too small to be useful for anything but a bus ticket and I like to use jacket pockets to hold my cellphone (it falls out of the ecole and clea jacket pockets)
- Metallic boucle houndstooth clea jacket in buttercup - which has same small-pocket problem as the ecole jacket
- Bootcut cords in aubergine - I have a couple of these cords from last season, too, and I love them
- Silver/pewter slim belt that doesn't look like it's on their site anymore - I got it to go with just one outfit and I find myself wearing it a lot
- Crepe Mimi t-shirt wedding gown which I got married in last Sunday and it made me feel so glamorous
Two items I have that I'm just not as happy with as I'd hoped to be
- vintage slim jeans in size 27, which usually fits me perfectly and these feel too big/baggy so why is the description "slim?" I do like that the inseam is 32" instead of 33" because 32" fits me perfectly and 33" requires alteration
- Cecelia dress which has really nice drape but feels a bit too clingy around the waist and makes even slim me feel a bit lumpy and in need of spanx
* Double cloth Lady coat in bright saffron and Lucille coat in spicy mustard - everyone wears black coats in Chicago, which gets so boring. I love the bright colors!!! Plus, if I ever get hit by a cab, my coat can be Exhibit A in my trial (how could you not have seen her?!?!).
ReplyDelete* Watercolor garden rosette dress - I ordered this twice and had it cancelled on me, and then it disappeared from the website, and of course I was crushed...but then my puppy woke me up at 4:30 am, so I checked the website, and they had one! It just arrived today!
* Sparkle plaid tweed skirt - I wasn't crazy about this at first, but FFM put together some fabulous outfits with it, so I broke down and bought it. Love it.
* Jacinda jacket in honey glaze - actually, anything in honey glaze. Fabulous fall color. I own lots of honey glaze pieces between last year's and this year's fall collection.
* Lydia blouse in brilliant orange, bright saffron, and dark fog - beautiful! Great for layering too.
* Velvet ecole jacket in burgundy - so pretty!
* And finally, all of there wide-leg wool pants - fabulous for work and play.
My favorite item is the paintbrush floral belle skirt! I never pay full price, but I did for this one. I also love the ruffle henley, which I got in plum. Oh, and the silver mocs. :) One more, the chino cooper jacket in british khaki.
ReplyDeleteOoh, one more. How could I forget the cashmere argyle vest?! I LOVE this. It's so cute worn over a short sleeve tee or a button up. Once again, thanks kater for helping me find this. :)
ReplyDeleteMine favs are
ReplyDeleteBootcut cords, esp acorn and coral
Rose tee
Cash argyle sweater
City tees
sherpa hoodie
ReplyDeletecity tee cardigan (wish it hit at the hip)
tissue turtleneck tee
bootcut cords
yoga jacket
Re: Anon at 2:25 PM
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure about this specific instance, but keep in mind that many of the colors and styles of certain items are "retail-only," meaning that the catalog/website have no inventory in that color and they are only carried in the store. I don't know why, but in the future, if the item is full-priced, the CS should be able to do a locator for the item and try to find it in the store inventory. Always ask, although in my experience they don't always know what I'm talking about.

ReplyDeleteHere are my Fall picks:
ReplyDelete- Please, accept me into Lucille Club, I adore my Spicy Mustard Lucille too....
- Matchstick cords ( in dark cement and sweet potato)
-Navy Velver Ecole- so versatile and so plush
-City Tee cardigan in champagne with ruffles- it looks like Tartine (style # 97647), I assume it's a store only version
-Soiree jacket in Heather Silver
-Black wool ribbed thigh-highs (very funky)
I love my laminated canvas bag, too--the fun colors make me happy, and on sale, it was like $20.00. A steal! Awesome!
ReplyDeleteI also love my cashmere argyle vest. It's very, very pretty and soft, and I think the ribbon detail is lovely.
And always, always, always, the Jackie cardigan. I got three this year, in tangerine, spicy mustard, and purple. The Jackie cardigan and a good pair of black trousers have consistently been my go-to wardrobe items, three seasons a year. They always work, no matter how I'm feeling. Can't live without 'em!
Love, love, love my new Original-fit wool Herringbone Jenna pants in Sour Lemon.
ReplyDeleteJackie cardigan in any color.
Double-serge pencil skirt in "Bright Blue"
Italian Boucle pencil skirt in 'Honey Glaze"
Tartine cardigan in "Deep Persimmon"
I just love "Bright" colors.....
1)Felicia coat in black
ReplyDelete2)Stretch vintage cord jacket in ecru
3)Dream turtleneck in eggplant & bright azul
4)Liberty twisted placket shirt in deep hyrdrangea
Not very fancy but I love the t-shirts with the paint store and "queen's tailor" on them. Super-soft and I love the spot of gold or silver on them too.
ReplyDeleteI love the jewel-button cardigan because it has big crystal fake diamond buttons. My 6-year-old daughter thinks they're REAL diamonds! BLING!! Also, It's very soft and not itchy at all.
ReplyDeleteFun post! Here goes:
ReplyDeleteLady Day coat in Sea Salt - what a lovely, feminine fit! And an ivory coat - I feel so elegant in it!
Wool Tuesday Trench in Navy - also a lovely coat. The cut was perfec on me in a petite (one size down), and it is so easy to wear over jeans, trousers, cord skirts, etc.
Watercolor Lydia - all that and a bag of chips! I love the fit and style, but have trouble wearing it under a cardi or jacket because of the ruffles on the back of the neck, and sleeveless weather has come and gone here in New England! Otherwise I'd buy the solid colors, too.
Trouser Cords in Sea Salt - what a great way to extend white pants into fall and winter. I do not usually like the Favorite Fit pants, but sizing down helped them fit like they were made for me. They really do make my 28" inseam look longer, too!
Dream Argyle Cardi in pony/charcoal - just received this last weekend and can't stop wearing it! So soft and perfectly cute! Wish there were other colors left.
Dream Turtleneck in dark eggplant and black - this fabric is much nicer this year than it was last year. It is soft and not itchy (and I have very sensitive, allergic skin - tomatoes give me hives!) They are classic and look great with jeans, trousers, skirts, cords. Will probably buy more colors soon!
I could go on, but I'll stop there. Thanks for the great topic!
FSW
covert5 - I haven't tried the ruffle henley with anything special to report on. Only alone with jeans or trousers. It might work under a v-neck and I'm sure it looks good w/a cardi. Hope you got my return email.
ReplyDeleteI've spent more at J.Crew this season than I have in a long while. I attribute it to the following: reading this blog (really, it's true, I have bought things I would have bypassed due to the reviews), better styles at J.Crew, and not-so-great styles at Banana Republic/Gap/Anthro/Limited.
ReplyDeleteThat said, I really enjoy the following:
-Cord skirt in dark fog, I never would have bought this if not for reading this blog
-Straight denim skirt, same sentiment as above, and I really love it and wear it every week! So glad I read this blog
-Dream tie front cardigan in eggplant (still too warm to wear it here)
-Ruffle henley in black (again, still too warm to wear, maybe next week when it gets to be in the 80s)
I did buy the Penelope heels on FS. They came today and I could barely get my foot in them. Not only that, the strap at the ankle was too tight, and too short for me to punch another hole in. I called CS and explained the problem, and he said as a "courtesy" he would let me return it. So I drove to the store and the associate said she has the same problem, that she can't even get the espadrille ankle straps around her ankle, and took it back, no problem.
I asked when they would be getting the holiday line and she said Thanksgiving. Huh?!? That seems contrary to what I have read here, unless this first push next week will be fall phase three or something.
Here are the misses I have had:
-Jacinda jacket
-Merino Paige jacket
-Penelope heels
My fav's are:
ReplyDelete- Navy Tuesday Trench - Gorgeous!
- cashmere argyle cardi in wheat
- Lucille (can't pick a color)
- Peacock hammered silk tank
- honey glaze dream tie cardi
- Silky pleated tops (thank you ffm)
- Long merino jewel button cardis
- Penelope flats in metallic silver
- ALL graphic tees (too many cute ones to name)
- Everything in plum (LOVE)
Ok, I'll stop there but I could go on and on! :)
Forgot to mention!
ReplyDelete8. Polka dot rosette dress in spiced mustard (I bought it for $69.99 with additional 20% off)-it's adorable
9. Featherweight merino glass-button cardigan in deep persimmon. I love the length, fit, (everything about it!). It looks GREAT wit honey glaze tee and jeans
10. Sparkle argyle cardigan (navy with the perfect amount of gold threads- barely noticeable). I think if I had 100+ argyle sweaters and cardigans, I still wouldn't have enough
11. Merino lady jacket in charcoal (because it's different than any other sweater-jacket I have)
Double-serge pencil skirts--awesome fit and fabric! I purchased ochre and black and will be picking up more.
ReplyDeleteSparkle Tweed Pencil Skirt--fun, modern tweed.
Watercolor Lydia--makes me feel artistic every time I wear it.
Weathered fuschia twisted placket liberty print shirt--like the Lydia, a beautiful and usual print.
Donegal Tweed Ecole in Light Evergreen--beautiful colors in the tweed--you'd never know from the website photo.
Ombre Ring--its big, its colorful and reminds me of the beauty of late summer. LOVE IT.
FFM:
ReplyDeletethe return went smoothly, so I won't need one. Thank you!
Some of you mentioned owing the matchstick cords. Do they fit as snugly as depicted on the model? The description states that the legs are straight but it appears to be form-fitting on the model... more like skinny jeans. Also, are these TTS?
ReplyDeleteI used the extra 20% off private sale to purchase MY favorite item from fall...the saffron yellow French Serge Day Coat! I love love love it. I had some trouble with the sizing, but ended up with a 6--one size down from what I take in Lady Day and Tulip Coat, one size up from Wool Tuesday Trench, and I take a small in the Classic Peacoat, so go figure! It is just breathtaking in person though, the bow is beautiful. A keepsake to be passed on to my own daughter someday when I have one!
ReplyDeleteLydia blouse in fog
ReplyDeleteMerino lady jecket in charcoal
Olivia shell in oatmeal
Audrey dress- i splurged and it is sooo worth it!
J Crew Old Timer:
ReplyDeleteI am hour-glass shaped with pear tendencies ( think, Scarlett Johanssen, sort of :)) and I am wearing matchsticks with no problem. They have a straight leg, not very clingy; definitely, not like cigarette pants most matchsticks are. I think J Crew really hit a nail in the head with this shape. It's really flattering on most figures.

Favorite items, some perhaps from summer:
ReplyDelete1. Whisper lame Zoey tank, the white/cream color
2. Ruffle henley in plum
3. Watercolor floral Madison dress
4. Featherweight merino V-neck, eggplant; featherweight merino glass button cardigan, light pewter- I get some version of the merino V-neck every year; they used to have this softer Egyptian cotton (?) blend V-necks that I love
6. Super 120s pinstripe suit, charcoal
7. The red jelly flats-- they are death to walk in for an entire day but I like to put them on for a burst of color when I know it's going to be a short day.
Want the sketchbook Belle skirt next and a pair of the Juliet midheels.
I am in love with my brown suede city flats... The price point kept me away for so long, and now I only wish I had gotten them sooner!
ReplyDeleteI'm sad that my dream sweater is a super awkward fit... too boxy.
I love all of my tissue tees... but the basics are starting to look too generic...
please bring back and keep the boat necklines and shawl sweaters in more styles and colors!
1. Double-serge pencil skirt - only wish I could afford more than 1 @ full price.
ReplyDelete2. Sherpa-lined goosedown puffer vest in bright peacock - my bf bought this as a bday gift (at my request!). Love the color, supersoftness, and warmth.
3. Wool-blend ribbed tights in rust - love the look & feel. Warm, but not itchy.
4. Cashmere argyle vest in gray - a bit long in my regular size S, but so cute, esp the bow detail.
5. Watercolor floral rosette tank in deep atlantic - so pretty in person and flattering on pale skin.
Hey Alexis,
ReplyDeleteI just started reading you blog, and I have to say, it's fantastic!
I've really been obsessing about the Astor tweed coat this season. But now it's sold out, let alone going on sale like I hoped! And whenever they restocked in my size, it would sell out within a couple of hours =(
One more favorite. I just bought the luxe knit tee yesterday, and I love it! Especially with the chiffon rose belt. So, if there are still some around in my size after another markdown (or bigger extra %), I will be buying more!
ReplyDelete1) felted wool mini in sea salt
ReplyDelete2) ruffle henley in plum
3) graphic print cut out tees
4) skinny patent leather belts
5) Chiffon rosette belts!
~I wore these with everything...even to a hockey game to cinch a hockey jersey that was too big on me. I love!
~for the anon: I wrap the ends twice around me and tie a bow under the rosette. The shape settles in and you can't tell it is wrapped twice.
