J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

  1. Shirts, shirts and more shirts. Nothing Springlike yet but it’s very early at the moment. Website is sloppy again, images not displaying and showing new items sold out. No promos for new items either. So much for the large Spring launch for now. Hopefully there will be more interesting things to come. Not too optimistic at the moment

  2. Not sure if I should laugh or cry at the landing page. The model walking on the beach? For all experiencing snowstorms or frigid temperatures along with COVID-19, and travel restrictions it’s quite a melancholy photo. You have my sympathy. At least put some bright colors out there and bring some cheer to customers. Are any of you feeling the same about the photo?

    1. Hi, Lynn, it’s not just a photo here, a lazy cut&paste there – the website needs a total rebuild. It’s always had a primitive, clunky vibe, in fact I’ve had the feeling that it was originally the creation of someone’s genius 11-yr-old nephew, and that there are built-in weaknesses and errors that can’t be fixed. They need a complete new build and a professional conversion ready to go, so that there can be a brief shutdown and a smooth transition. And then they need a regular maintenance schedule. We’ve been paying them to be their beta-testers long enough.

    2. Hi, wellfedfred, total agreement with you. You would think as mentioned before they would clean house in this area and get it fully functional. I stayed up until 2:30 this morning searching to see if there would have been minor corrections and nothing. I went to bed and a short time ago got up to read your comment and take a look again to see what they put up. I was not impressed earlier but hoping to see some nice classic pieces if any now. I’m tired of looking at leggings, baggy loungewear etc. I am a runner and do wear loosely fitted cotton ones. I don’t wear them when hubby is around because he always asks when am I going to get dressed with a smile. Have a great day and stay safe and healthy. Thank you for your thoughtful posting

  3. Kate, your suede captoes are half off today, $41.99, go get “em! (I did)

  4. Just glanced though the new items again. It appears the company has taken the turn to go classic again. Gemma pointed toe striped shoes are just one example and archived cashmere colors with new names. Thoughts about the launch today?

    1. Hi Lynn, I hope that you’re doing well! I just browsed quickly, there were more items than I expected because with a January launch I didn’t think they’d rollout a ton. I like the Gemma shoes you mentioned and it’s so nice to see brighter colours and springlike items. I liked the more casual striped cashmere sweater. I haven’t added anything to my must have list but I’ll take a closer look later. I’m glad that they didn’t solely focus on lounge wear. Have you found items that you’re interested in?

I do agree with your earlier post, normally seeing their beach shots makes me excited but it’s a bit tough to see that now while it’s freezing here and we’re in another lockdown. I guess it’s something to look forward to, I’m definitely longing to have a beach vacation.

    2. I like those Gemma flats too, they look like a pair I have from Boden. I wear them with prints for a little pattern mixing.

      Delete
    3. @pbanos, I like your idea of pattern mixing with the shoes!

  5. OT, but saw someone wearing a beautiful silk button down blouse in the style of Drake’s, Ratti Jcrew. Check them out, I purchased one, it’s gorgeous and made in Italy. Will purchase more if they send me an email promo. Pricey but worth it. The company has as a big hit at Paris Fashion Week and the retail companies are raving about it casablancaparis.com

    2. Mmm the horoscope shirts. Signed up for promos. Ya never know.

    3. @pbanos,Perhaps I do move in different circles. I am in the Aviation business and own my own company where I’m on the go COVID or not. When you’re selling aircraft to billionaires, air rescue services worldwide it’s a 24/7 business etc. I happened to see that beautiful blouse in Saint Barth’s on business. I’m not a shopaholic or throwing money out as if it falls off trees. There plenty of people here shopping far more than I do and probably spend more in a month than I purchased the blouse for😂

  6. I looked, clicked on a few things to see closer. Striped shirt dress...model shot is obviously oversized, product shot looks like the same dress they’ve had a few years.

Relaxed jogger pant in vintage cotton terry Item AB719
So the model shot with the tipped sweater blazer they are styled in a cute way, obviously crotch which I don’t mind (I prefer with joggers) but other shots they look horrible, reviews complaining that they’re drop crotch. Hello, give model sizes and measurements. Take the time so people can see how the pants should fit. Do we need to size up or down for proper fit. Not everything is meant to fit tight. This is the kind of thing that’s driving me crazy with online shopping.

I didn’t look closely at the button downs as I have so many but I could definitely use some more relaxed fitting ones.

  7. Not impressed! More of the same! Blend colors! Repeats from prior years! I am sure eventually I will get something form this roll out. Sale promo is sad! Not only is 59 off but a lot of items not included, including cashmere which is my weakness.
@ Cheritheberry, guess I don’t need the captoes and spoiled by the 70 of with prior sales! Will wait!
    Have a good day all!!!

  8. Late January rollouts have always been underwhelming, and I thought this was better than most imo. I love the lattice floral print, the fisherman crewneck striped sweater and the gingham sweater (not that I need anymore gingham) and the pebbled leather tote. I am a fan of all things navy for spring. I can't wear any of these items until April at the earliest, but it is a nice escape in the midst of the blizzard we are having at the moment. I do wonder about the unlined leather shoes though.

  9. Looks like they leaned it hard on stripes, which I don't mind. I definitely get the back to classics feel, and a bit of the back of the old 'Crew feel - especially that cashmere sweater with the oversized flower.
The one item that caught my eye (first on IG, enough for me to go find it on the website) was Item AV997, the Ribbed cashmere crewneck sweater in stripe. Looks really cozy, and was astonished that a cashmere sweater from JC would be hand wash. What. the. I can't tell from the product description if it's meant to be that oversized or if the model is wearing 1-2 sizes big. Either way, until I know it won't be see-through, I'm not paying full price $200+ for it.
    - Collection ruffle-collar top in striped silk-twill (AW707): this legit looks like the top of a clown costume.
    - Ruffle popover top in mini hearts (AW727) - this looks very sweet but ugh poly, no. Even the product photo looks like it's clingy/staticky.
    - Carolyn mule flats in Liberty® print (V978) - $148 for house slippers. I mean, the product description even says "these will be your go-to shoes that are basically like slippers you can wear out of the house."

    3. @Suz - omg you just reminded me... it's the same colors/striping pattern as a bed skirt that I have!!

  13. I wasn't too impressed with most of the new items, but I do like the navy cashmere crewneck embellished sweater (AQ378). I don't own any cashmere from JC- would this fit TTS or slightly small?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Depends on the fit. The product description says fitted, but I can tell from one of the model photos (showing the back, zoomed in around the waist) that it has side slits. My JC cashmere with side-slits at the bottom are NOT fitted - they're a bit wide and boxy. BUT never trust JC photos - they've been wrong many times in the past. I suggest you call and ask, go by product measurements for your usual size and your own body measurements.

  15. Could anyone comment on sizing for the Nordic Boots? They have so many good reviews but I'm not sure whether I should go down or up. I wear a 7 in open toed shoes and a 7 1/2 in sneakers so I feel like I may be in between. TIA for your help!

    1. I am 7.5 and took size 8. Supper comfy!!!

      Delete
    2. I'm 10-10.5, and the 10 fits comfortably. When I take 10.5 it is usually for width in the toe box, and these are wide enough.

      Delete
    3. I’m an 8.5 and take a 9. I do have some shoes in size 9 but almost always 8.5 lately.

      Delete
    4. Thanks so much for the help!

    5. I’m late to chime in but I have a size 9 in the Nordic boots and I’m almost always a sz 9 in shoes. With the furry lining they’re a tiny bit snug but very comfy. If I wanted to wear thick socks they’d be uncomfortable. Good luck, they are great boots!

  16. I broke down and ordered two items the cashmere gingham crewneck in the Vivid Fuchsia Snow AW 108. I love the pink and already have the navy/snow cardigan featherweight from years ago with the matching shell. Pale Citron in the crewneck. That’s it for now.

    1. I thought of you when I saw the Pale Citron!

    2. Lynn, the navy gingham was my most-wanted new item. Please let us know what you think. I was worried the cashmere might be too thin. What do you think of the big flower on the navy crewneck? I like the idea but am afraid it might be too "embellished." I feel like you often read the photos better than I do.

      Delete
    3. I didn’t notice the fuschia gingham until you mentioned it @Lynn. I love it! I also love the navy gingham like you Mary G but I have so much navy that I’ll try to hold off.

    4. Mmm those featherweight sets – have to excavate mine and see if they’ll play nice with the Covid19 gain. I have quite a collection (blushes).

      Delete
    5. @Mary G, Mary, I will you know. It’s not a featherweight and I don’t mind. I would say they are are average weight. Not heavy and not thin. These can be worn all year round in certain temperate climates. As far as the one with large flower, I’m not fond of it personally. It seems to be a bit overpowering and perhaps a little cheap looking. Then again, it’s difficult to tell from the photos and white kind of material the flower is. I do like the pink colored sweater more than the other, it makes more of a bold statement. Not much help. Hope you’re well.

    6. @pbanos, Ah you know me so well. Just hope it’s a pretty soft pale color. I saw the shirt you mentioned I like it. Stylist mentioned how pretty it is. There should be a promo soon. There are in the stores 30% off on new items.

  17. Hey all. I liked a few things in this newest rollout. Love the long pencil skirts! Regular length at 28.5” is unheard of! And tall has that 2 extra inches. I’ll order both regular and tall and see what I like. I also like the longer length in some of the button downs. 29” again is unheard of. Sorry to all the more petite ladies, but this tall girl is going to enjoy the extra length and add some shirts to my closet. I especially like the pink and blue striped shirt. Lastly, with the news of new shows for Sex and the City, the embellished cashmere is a definite must have. Will try to resist both colors but I’m not sure I have the will power to, lol! Agree with others about a website revamp and beach photos being out of touch with most of us. We are skipping our usual florida trip this February so it will be cold and dreary in my world for the foreseeable future.

    1. The pink and blue stripes caught my eye too! I didn't look at pants length - are they going to the ground now?

    2. @Jan, Hi Jan, sorry I didn’t reply earlier. I just love that pink gingham it stands out and is so cheerful looking. My stylist told me they only have 100 in this color which is why I ordered it right away. Many more in the navy. I will let you and MaryG know what the quality is like once I receive it. I think wherever we are we really would benefit from nice bright colors. Hope all is well up there for you and your family.

    3. @wellfedfred, I bet you do have a lot of the featherweights from the good old days. Such beautiful colors back then. I love all of mine and they haven’t pilled or snagged. Pull them all out and wear them they do have give to them. You’re not the only one with COVID gain. I was feeling the pain from the gain at 3 lbs but as I found out the sweaters are very forgiving. I’m back to running again so my baby fat is gone. That and no more cheesecake😂 Did you happen to look at the Casablanca Paris line? Do tell me what you think if you have a chance. The silk button down tops. Zoom in on the details.

    5. @wellfedfred, love that one too. Only an XS available. Luisavia Roma has a sale on them plus 30% off. Girlfriend is stopping by the store in Italy to see what they have available that’s not online. Many times they hold back items for locals. I’m in trouble

    6. Liz I was also excited to see longer pencil skirts (and then tall versions!). Now they need more than just those 4 boring/standard colors. (I already have black, don't want pink or white, and the brandy color is a question mark.) Very happy JC has been going for longer skirts recently. Not only was the beach pic on the website landing page painful/annoying to see ,also the person (the "wellness advocate" interview) sitting at a table enjoying a drink at an outdoor cafe. ouch. Stuff I can't do, way to rub salt in the papercut J Crew. :(

      Delete
    7. @Lynn, thank you! You’re right, the bright beautiful colours are something we could all use. I look forward to your review of the sweater, it’s def on my wish list.

    8. I didn't expect much from this rollout and I don't expect much until September. I'm happy to see longer skirts since I'm almost six feet tall but for how many years have we begged them for tall Jackie cardigans/shells?

    1. I think I have that sweater, it's the navy one with the quite bright pink and ivory tipping. Since the pink and ivory is just a tiny highlight I don't see why that would be too much. You'd basically have a navy sweater over a pink/ivory one. Just don't add pink and blue floral pants.

      Delete
    2. I was able to pull up a pic of that sweater blazer and I’d agree with pbanos that I think you could wear them together. Online it looks like the pinks are similar.

    3. @Lynn, I’m daydreaming of that gingham sweater with white pants now lol

      Delete
    4. @pbanos, yes that’s it and thank you for your great expertise!! White jeans, blue jeans. No flower power promise. By the way no I didn’t order the yellow gingham ballet flats either. @jan, come in go ahead and do it. I’m sure you will love it. It’s the big seller at the moment and no reorders.

    5. Confess I have blue/white gingham block heel slings I wear with a blue/white gingham top & white flare jeans. Also blue/white floral sneakers and a blue/white floral turtleneck with the same pattern. Last week I wore my black/white polka dot cashmere sweater and black/white polka dot court pumps. I wear these pairings for fun!

    8. @Lynn and @Suz Has thanks for the encouragement! I didn't play dress-up as a kid, but am making up for it now. Today I'm wearing a leopard sweater/jacket that I got at Ann Taylor a couple of years ago for a crazy low price. I think it was ahead of it's time. But not wearing my leopard booties, that would go over the top even for me. So I'm wearing black suede booties. But I did put on tortise earrings to hook up with the sweater!

How did you get a vaccine appointment? I signed my mom up in three places (State, Morris County and Morristown Hospital) and haven't had a chance. She's over 80.

Remember to wear short sleeves when you are getting a shot in the arm. Good time for a cashmere t-shirt.

    9. @SuzHas, that’s great news about your parents! @pbanos I hope that your mom gets one soon. In Ontario, it sounds like my mom won’t be eligible until April.

    10. PBanos essex county is doing a decent job. Somehow a bunch of spots opened Monday and they were able to get in.
Friends of mine volunteered and yesterday 200 people were no shows which really breaks my heart. I wish there was a way for people to be on call if there are no shows. So many people are waiting.
I am sitting back and hoping those who are more at risk get their appointments.

    2. @Jan, relying on me? Oh no! I miss the snow and still have a sled and toboggan from childhood and nowhere to use it. Oh the days😘

    4. @jan, thank you and I understand how you feel. What’s the old saying “we all have any what we can’t have”. I have to mention I will be going back to Europe most likely sometime in March. It will be so nice to be back in a temperate climate and be able to see all my favorite flowers again and wear some of this winter Jcrew stuff sitting at home. Won’t be returning to Florida ever again either. I need more normality which we don’t have here. 😘
