J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

  2. I placed my first JC order today since November. Just the black leather captoe boots -- to replace the ones I bought in 2018 and promptly wore to death until this past December, when I replaced them with a similar pair from Anthropologie. I looked back in my order history and saw that I paid $41.XX for them in 2018, which I remember thinking was so cheap! This morning they're $55.XX with the new sale promo. Still a great price for a great pair of stylist minimalist boots with a heel that I can handle.

    1. I love those boots and I also trashed mine this year! They Literally had holes. I was thinking of replacing them. But ended up getting the Chelsea sock bootie. They also minimalist and seem very comfy and tts. I picked up the crepe sole brown boots for $36 they should be here Friday! For my 18 yrs old daughter who is discovering boots vs another pair of sneakers I picked up the Pointed-toe Sadie boots in leather for $28 and Fiona Kitten-heel Ankle Boots for $14. They arrived yesterday and she is most happy! I been on a search for Sherpa jacket! Can’t find xs. Overall I did few returns and have a bag ready to go for tomorrow!

    2. EEPS, so funny I had and sold those in black and almost every color! They ended up being more “conservative” than I really wanted but they were lovely. I had to stop myself from getting them in leopard.

KATE, does your store allow returns of final sale items? I’ve not tried in awhile and I hope everything I purchased works but in the past I know they’ve been ok at times,

    3. I go to rockofelar! They usually very nice! I got a few times it’s an exception! But they usually allow it. I tried few jersey stores and they were much more rigid!

    4. BTW, have few non final sale items, jeans I bought to try! Etc. some are final sale! Will see what happens! I go at opening so they not that busy! But it’s a risk every time! Lol

    5. Suz - I remember you had the patent red ones? Too daring for me. The black ones are classic - I love the heel height and shape. I can't do anything much higher or skinnier anymore. I thought about the leopard ones but I don't like the covered heel. I would trash those in five seconds. Calf hair shoes and I don't get along.

    6. Eeps the red patent was too much for me too. I love red shoes but realize I need skin showing to make it work. The boot silhouette and the patent made them too loud for how id wear them. Maybe if I had tiny little feet. 😆 I don’t.

    7. @eeps and @Suz, I have the red patent. I wore them yesterday with plaid trouser jeans, a red turtleneck and navy blazer. To work at home! I have big feet (10) and they love their red boots.

    8. Rock it, girlfriend, meanwhile my husband calls me Ace Freyley with my Stella McCartney star sneakers.

    9. @Suz Has, I still have a photo somewhere of me dressed as Ace Freyley for Halloween in high school.

  3. I ordered my husband the Legacy blazer Item F3867 and a pair of pants in a Tollegno wool AG643. Not really WFH wear, but I'm expecting that to end eventually. When it does he'll look great. There was only one blazer in his size, so hoping not to get cancelled.

    1. Good finds. I don’t know that I’ll ever see my husband in dress clothes ever again.

    2. I think he really likes to dress up, just has trouble getting motivated to take of the stretchy pants when working at home.

  4. I hope someone can comment on Madewell's Adelle Ballet Flat in Leather (MA455). I think this is a new item. They're described as "super comfy."

I also like the older model featured in the Latest Drop area of their homepage.

  5. 10/15 items I’ve ordered since Dec 26 have shipped. I received one and I’m pleased for the price, let’s hope that streak continues.

OT but I placed two Everlane orders during their sale (was hoping to just keep one pair of jeans, maybe a sweater and boots, nothing has arrived yet) but they just released two more pairs of super high rise jeans that I think I must have. So whatever I haven’t spent at jcrew I will be spending there.

    1. @Suz Has, did you receive any of the black pants, or did you cancel those?

      Delete
    2. I canceled them when they refused to allow the birthday rewards but then purchased the crochet trim ones with two filler items with my birthday rewards.
      Stupid...
Then I ordered the lace paperbag ones with the top just to make an outfit.

I did not order the jacquard or the joggers. One review said she liked the jacquard ones but I’ll wait until they’re even cheaper (or not) before I take a chance on the fit.

    3. I'm eyeing up the lace pants too since they come in a Tall. The only reason I held off was the dry clean only. I'll probably wait anyway to see how you like them.

    4. I ended up with the tall 0. I realized that high rise pants like that I need to fit smaller. It’s the 9/10” rise that I have sizing issues with because they need to sit on my hips.

    5. I didn’t even notice the dry clean only aspect. I’d prob just steam and spot clean.

  6. Hoping for a full price promo soon as I’d like to order the vintage pajama set to wear the top a la Jenna. I was not into the trend the first time around but super into it now. It’s also always nice to add new pj pants to the stash!

I ran to the mall today to make a return at Tory Burch and didn’t stop into J Crew. Might be a first for me, ha!

    1. That's funny Liz, I was just thinking today how I wasn't into the pajama top as daywear trend the first time around - then I saw someone on today instagram (it was @theedgyprep) wearing the pink PJ top layered over a long sleeve stripe shirt and was like "wow, I like that". It's a little ways down in her feed if you want to see it. :D

    2. Thanks @julielion96 for sharing! Super cute mix with the pink and stripes.

    1. Beautiful colors! Can’t wait! I have a fuss.... so there are all these items and when places to cart are $0. But says few left. Obviously sold out. Has anyone caught any of these items ? It’s frustrating! I did catch few from saved to later when they show, mostly in early am. Is there a pattern to this madness ? Lol

    2. healthier blue? lol i assume it’s heather blue unless JC’s copywriter from outer space is on a diet for the new year.

  8. oh my gosh, Harling Ross (formerly of) ManRepeller has a mini feature on the banner JC page.

    1. I saw this on Instagram (not sure where), and I remember her from Man Repeller, but forgive me for asking, why is she relevant? I wonder if I am just not in her target demographic, or what it is she actually does?

      Delete
    2. That's what had me scratching my head...Harling Ross and J Crew? I can see Madewell maybe but JC? I think she's just an "of the moment" writer, influencer kind of person. Her MR pieces were often funny, like "I used this product on my hair and here's what happened" kind of things. Why is she relevant..who knows.

    4. Isn’t MR cancelled because they treated their minority staff poorly? She’s a pretty girl who has a quite a few fans JC is hoping get younger women interested in their clothes.

    5. I saw that, and almost unfollowed JCrew on IG. I think she is a poor choice for a feature given her history with ManRepeller. Not to mention she isn’t really representative of the brand or diversity/inclusion goals. Blair Eadie I understand - her style has always been preppy, colorful, young. I don’t know what Harling brings to the brand. But in general, JC needs to work on diversity - Blair, Harling, Jenny Walton... surely there’s stylish influencers of other sizes and cultures who are fans of the brand and would love to be given a voice.

    6. I agree with you @eeps. We need more diversity 🙂

  9. I think I have three crew packages arriving today.

First one was birthday rewards order. Crochet trim pants sized up to 2, vintage cotton tank (size small) and Pearl drop earrings AS690. The latter items were filler to get 70 off.

The pants will be an effortless way to dress up and be comfy. They work with a chunky sweater and heels in a sort of Victoria Beckham way. I should prob hem them an inch to wear like this but may not. I can belt them and wear on my waist but the rise isn’t great for my torso length.

The tank is not the same as my older version but I like the cotton and it’s not that big. I don’t love the cut on its own but it’s great for layering.

The earrings are a surprise win. I wasn’t sure if they’d be comfortable but they’re light and although the stone and Pearl are chunky and oversized they’re not as garish as some other chunky earrings I’ve gotten and will be fun to wear with my mostly subdued black shirts.

Devon camera bag with removable strap in red. This is a great size for essentials where I find the belt bags are slightly smaller than I’d like with my current phone size. The strap is tricky to take off, I will have to put some effort in because I want to switch with a Longchamp strap.

    1. oh you managed to get a red Devon bag! I saw one yesterday early AM but it was gone from my cart before I could rush to checkout. I like that the strap can be changed out.

    2. I ordered last week!I managed to get the strap off, it’s very securely attached. Somehow I don’t have any bags this size.

    3. @suzhas I’ve been trying to get the red Devon bag! Lucky you, it looks really cute & a good red.

    1. That was a pleasant interview. It doesn’t surprise me, her reaction actually. I think of people who go from being “workaholics” to being at home parents...it’s not an easy shift. I’ve always liked her and this makes me relate to her even more. (Not that I’ve been a workaholic for many years...)

  11. Reporting back! Went to rockofelar yesterday! Returns went fine! I was only customer! Sale 50 off, reg items 30 off. Small tiny sale section! I love the staff at rockofelar!
I bought few throngs online: pajamas, Sherpa jacket, tuxedo Camerons, curvy white shirt few I get items! Will report back! Have a great day everyone!!

  12. Today I got the lady jacket in Italian lurex tweed. AR591.
It’s beautiful. For looks and quality I like it more than I even expected. My issue is the fit. The website said it was 23 plus inches long and it’s over an inch shorter. It’s too short on me! I’ve tried styling it a few different ways and it’s ok but not sure I’ll reach for it.
I don’t even want to ask about returning. 😔 it’s size Xs And runs large. I can layer over a heavy sweater. (I’ve had to size up to size 6 in coats and they barely even fit over the same sweaters).
