"Looking to VENT" with J.Crew

This is the weekly "Looking to VENT with J.Crew" post, a place to share our not-so-stellar experiences with J.Crew.

If you have recently experienced a frustrating situation with J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including poor experiences with purchases & orders, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. I asked CS to let me return a final sale item because it was too big on me. I had previously tried the item . The one that shipped was definitely much bigger. They told me to take them to a tailor (at my cost) I insisted they let me return them ....they said no....I said I am a long time loyal shopper....they said no. The item is going to the thrift shop and I am going elsewhere to shop ( a short boycot but a boycot) By the way the item was a $50 pair of jeans.

    1. Call back, you will get a different person and they might let you. I will bet if you take them to a store, they will at least let you exchange them. That stinks that they would tick off a good customer for $50.00. So not worth it for them but they have ticked me off as well for less.

    4. My local store also takes back final sale items. Try again.

    5. I agree, try again. Personally, I usually email CS and get better responses. I've never been denied any of my requests (within reason of course).

    6. I've always been able to return mis-sized / mis-tagged / damaged etc. things, even once a pair of shoes that were fine except for the fact that someone else's arch supports were still in them! The key is giving the overworked burnt-out rep a quick and concise explanation. So definitely, definitely try again!

    8. CS 's reason for denying refund was that they have done this for me before. I tried 6 times.....no refund. I am taking a well deserved break from J Crew.

    9. Update.....emails and tele. no refund. we are not going to do this for you again. oh .....and if there is anything else we can do for you just let us know. It is only $50 jeans but I am just tired of ill fitting , wrong sized, over or under sized items. Maybe breaking up with Mickey and Jenna for a time will have me making better purchases ( basically no final sale )

    10. I'm so sorry this happened to you. Did you try going to the store and exchanging the item for a gift card?

  3. I can't decide whether to return the new Cece flats or not. I have several of the old, quality pairs and these are definitely sub standard in comparison. They still seem to be popular online though - I had to wait two months for these black suede ones on backorder. It is just sad when a good, quality item is replaced by comparative junk for the same price. The stickler in me says to return just on principal.

    1. it sounds like you should just return them. every time you look at them you're probably just going to think they're "junk."

    2. I really wanted the Burnt Sienna colorway and waited for them on backorder too but as soon as I got them I knew they were going back. Like you said, they are junk now! Too bad because I really like the older ones I have...

    3. The positive reviews online are probably from people who never had a pair of the older ones. You can't miss what you never had. :)

    4. They used to be $128 and made in Italy.

  4. Ordered an item via WWFIFT. A week later no charges on my cc. I called, rep told me order was never placed, left a message for the associate who helped me in store even though I asked her not to. Called again, order found, shipped half an hour later. Item arrives and it is damaged. I speak to a rep who offers me a replacement at my expense, and wait 2 to 3 weeks to get credited. Call takes over 45 minutes, I have to run to a meeting so I ask for a follow up. Supervisor calls me later that day, claims item is sold out and she is going to be generous enough to fix my issue by allowing me to return the item. Claims problem is solved, does not apologize. I call back immediately, speak to a VPS and he fixes my issue, orders the item and has it overnighted. He apologizes. What happened to CS? Infuriating to say the least but shoutout to the VPS who turned it around!

    1. The VPS sounds excellent. I wonder how he could track down an item that was sold out?!?! That's good you pursued the matter and finally got satisfaction.

    2. Some of those VPS's have some magical powers. I worked with one who found a sweater for me in a long sold-out color because he had a contact in the warehouse. Got the sweater - in that color and in my size - and it was just what I wanted :-) Cheers.

    3. Vava, simple. The necklace wasn't sold out! The supervisor just didn't know what she was doing. There are still some left in stores.

    4. with a decent inventory control computer system any item in any JC store should be able to be found and shipped from any store,

Bloomingdales and GAP just did it and shipped free for me last week

    5. Replying to own thread
still don't understand why the salespeople at JC can't do a store search from the register yet.

  6. I'm wearing my stacked sequin shell for the second time. I haven't even washed it yet, and, brace yourself, there's already a bleepity bleep tiny hole in the bottom. How does this happen?!?!? I haven't even paid my J. Crew bill for it yet. I actually think T shirts from Old Navy are better quality. How did this happen?

    1. I just posted a bad review for a cashmere sweater that has been worn 5 times, is a pilly mess AND has a random hole in the back. Really not happy, these are not exactly cheap. I get sucked in every time by the pretty colors. . .

  7. My battle over the educator discount continues in the Great White North! First encountered the denial of the discount two weeks ago "it already ended in the States." Really? Nobody here seemed to have encountered that. Was told in a second store on the weekend that the "program had ended, a month ago." So I started firing emails to CS, which thankfully has been very responsive (should this be on the Looking to Love page...?) After my first round, went back to the store armed with the printout assuring me that the discount was still in effect, to then be told begrudgingly that it would only be honoured on full-price items and could not be stacked or used on sale items. Cue another round of emails to CS, which resulted in a phone call from Virginia HQ, a more detailed email suggesting that the Toronto stores were out of line or following outdated directives, and a promise that the matter would be discussed with the regional directors and Calls Would Be Made to the stores involved. I may have gotten some people in trouble. Don't mess with a disgruntled educator.

    1. well....discontuing a long time discount. I feel the screws tightening at J Crew...whats next. No promos...or sale section ? Mickey .....your ticking off solid customers.

    2. Apparently JC have not discontinued it - but the Toronto stores were saying it was so. After my series of emails and phone calls, I imagine all will be back to normal soon, as CS seemed dismayed and wanted specific stores and details. I actually said that if it were true, i wanted my email passed on to Mickey as proof of how a loyal customer is lost!

  8. Ordered the Marbella sandal and was very disappointed about the lack of quality. Price point is lower but the sandal isn't 100% leather. I would rather pay more for quality. Also, all percentage off sales are now considered final. No more buying clothes for my daughter to try on at home and return what doesn't work. Voiced my displeasure about these issues with J Crew but don't really feel heard or cared about. I loved J Crew I don't want to have these complaints.

    1. KGH, I have not had that experience at all - I am able to return percentage off sale items that are not marked final sale at time of purchase. Why do you think that all percentage off sales cannot be returned?

  9. Does anyone know if you can use your j crew cc at madewell?
