J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

  1. Has anyone seen/tried on the Striped Eyelet Dress yet? I'm wondering if the V-Neck is as low as the one on the Chevron Pleated Dress, that practically came down to my navel.

  2. Is it just me or is the photo on the home page screen (on your mobile device) a little strange? It first appeared on April fools day and I thought it was a joke. At first, I thought I was entering an x-rated site or something...

  4. I tried on the Bristol Trouser in Bistretch wool. It was on sale for $69.99. I tried my normal size - 0P.

It's a very nice pant. Though unlined, the wool is not itchy (and I have sensitive skin) with a flowy drape. You feel the wool, but they aren't heavy. I don't think these pants would drape as nicely if they were lined.

I am 5-2, about 100 pounds, and not very curvy (straight figure), and the cut of these pants just did not suit me. The knee hit at the wrong place, and the pant was too roomy for me in the hip area, which made me look sloppy. The length was such that I'd really need a heel for it to look nice. I don't think sizing down would really save me because of the way the pants looked around my knees.

I almost kept them because they really are nice pants. I just didn't feel fabulous in them.

    1. I tried them as well... Awsome fabric, awsome drape. Size 2 was too big in the waist, so they slouched down in a crotch. Size 0 did not drape well in the leg and looked tight. They were also long... Would need hem... Back they went. Also... My pair was defective... Had a broken needle peice at the bottom... Customer service was good... They are sending me 1035 in navy....
      Also tried the flannel Bristol
Size 2 fit true to size... But they waist was high... Returned as well. Fabric was awsome

  5. Oh, I also tried the SIlk Chiffon Heidi Dress in parisian yellow, in my normal size. It's TTS. I liked it. They've structured the bodice so that it really shapes you in a flattering way. It's almost like a mini corset, but it's not constricting in any way. Just super-flattering. I also loved the light golden yellow. Parisian indeed!

It's a true empire waist, which normally I don't care for, but it works well - so flowy. It hits right above the knee.

I didn't keep it, because the fabric is super-delicate, so my eventual dry cleaning bills will be steep (i'm not very dainty). But it's a well-designed dress with thoughtful details.

  6. Here is a review of a jacket I've tried recently.

    Double-cloth motorcycle jacket (item b7872)
I really like the idea of a moto jacket done in wool as it seems less edgy than leather. Because the jacket looked somewhat fitted on the model online, I decided to order both my regular size 4 and a 6 to ensure that I could wear a light sweater underneath. As it turns out, I didn't need to bother because the 4 was plenty big.

The jacket is actually very nice, and I loved that they kept the details simple and not overdone with a bunch of straps, zippers, and pockets. The little flap pocket on the waist is fully functional BTW, which was a nice little surprise. The double-cloth is nice (as expected) but I've noticed that now it's a wool/nylon blend. My old (maybe 6 or 7 years) stadium trench in double-cloth is pure wool and still looks like new after all these years. It's true that I don't wear it daily during winter each year, but the quality still speaks for itself. There's no way of knowing, of course, how well the wool blend wears compared to the all-wool.

The hardware on the jacket is bright yellow gold which to me looked a little cheap; however, that's probably a personal preference. The double-end front zipper is a nice option but the zipper was difficult to insert into the two sliders and was kind of rough to close. Maybe that issue will work itself out with wear??

The color of the jacket is true navy; no problem there. As mentioned before, the fit in my usual size was fine with plenty of allowance for a sweater. The main reason why I didn't keep the jacket was that the two short zippers that close the side pockets bent to conform to my body, which is not necessarily a bad thing, but by doing so the bosom part of the jacket was suddenly emphasized and not in a good way. Basically, it made my chest look big and saggy. 'nuf said, except that this may not be an issue for ladies with a smaller chest.

Over all, I think this could be a cute jacket for the right person, especially at the current price point.

    2. I love this jacket. I also tried on the 4 (my JC blazer size) and 6 (my JC coat size) and bought the 4. I'm 5'5", 130 lbs., broad shoulders, average chest. I stalked this until it went on sale so I got it for a steal with the extra % off. I wear it unzipped and it's the perfect spring/winter coat here in SoCal.

  7. FACTORY JACQUARD MOTORCYCLE JACKETc2373
I take a 14 in J Crew and sized up to XL for this one. Unlined but nicely finished. Shoulder pads and the cut give it a 90s vibe. Online the fabric appears to be woven with a nubby texture but in fact it is a print. Looks great. Overall, a good, lightweight, work-appropriate spring jacket.

  8. Has anyone tried the laser cut midi skirt that can comment on sizing? The reviews online don't give me much to go by. I just ordered one in a size lower than my usual size since that was all that was available...hoping based on the other full skirts I've tried this season that I may be able to get away with it. I have a good inch in the waist of my punched eyelet skirt from this season that's in my normal size. Thanks!

    1. Anne, I just ordered the white one in my regular size. You're right, the reviews were vague about the sizing. Have been torn as to whether I should have taken my smaller size but we'll see... never saw it in store so fingers crossed. Will post on IG when it arrives.

    2. Anne, I also ordered lower than my size by one as I have a smaller than average waist (for my build). I was torn between that and my regular size. it hasn't arrived yet though. I agree, all of the reviews were really lacking with decent size information.

    1. The meteorologist on the Today show was wearing the pink pleat front mini this morning with a white navy patterned blouse. Looked great on her. It was such a random coincidence as I had just finished looking at ur review and turned on the television to see that skirt!

  13. Summerweight Cotton Pullover Sweater (Light Shell & Seashore) - I ordered one size down from my usual knit/sweater size as I wanted a fit similar to the Tippi. The measurements for the xxs were very similar to the measurements for the xs Tippi, except for the sleeve length. The body of the sweater fits me similar to the Tippi, slightly loose, but not baggy. The arms are a tighter fit, however. Not uncomfortably tight but I lift weights and you can see the muscle definition. I think part of the problem is that the material for the upper sleeve is thinner than that of the body. Not the look I was going for, but I'll live with it as I like the sweater overall. The fabric is not soft, but ok. The body of the 'Light Shell' is slightly sheer, but not enough to need a cami. The 'Seashore' is not at all sheer in the body, just the upper part of the sleeve.

Collarless Short-sleeve Popover (white) - Being 5'3" I decided to try the petite xs. I should have just gotten my usual regular xs. The sleeves are too short and look kind of awkward, not like the model shot. The body is cut straight, but I think because of where the hem hits at my hips, the waist balloons out in an odd way at my waist. Tucking the shirt in, it looks fine in the front, but still has that odd ballooning in the back. I'd exchange it for the regular xs except it's a bit too sheer for me. My nude bra was visible and I would need a cami, not something I want to wear with a shirt that I had hoped would be a nice Summer option.

  14. Just got the Minimalist Cord Necklace in gold. It's a sleek, simple design, just right for adding a bit of polish to my new Summerweight Cotton Sweaters. If you like a minimalist look, I highly recommend this piece. I don't see it on-line, but I'm guessing some store might still have them.
