"Looking to VENT" with J.Crew

This is the weekly "Looking to VENT with J.Crew" post, a place to share our not-so-stellar experiences with J.Crew.

If you have recently experienced a frustrating situation with J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including poor experiences with purchases & orders, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. J Crew Collection items starting showing up yesterday on Pinterest and the models just look solemn, unhappy or sullen. It could be the styling, maybe it's meant to convey that look. I just can't get the giant felt hat and shirt combo unless I needed something for a Jack White lookalike contest. Then the Boden posts show up right next to them and they are colorful, cheery and make me think, "I want to go there" (thanks Liz Lemon!)

  2. OMG. Teri, I received the last J. Crew style guide on the same day as I received the Boden catalogue. The contrast between the awesomeness in the Boden catalogue versus the awfulness in the J. Crew catalogue was MIND BLOWING. I am really hoping J. Crew kicks it up about 100 notches for September. All of the sweat pants and sweat shirts. Gawd. The Seinfeld episode when Jerry says to George, "You're wearing sweat pants all day? It's like you've just given up." Yeah that dialogue was running through my head page after page. Hee.

  3. Has anyone else noticed (or am I late to notice) the change on the website of zooming in? Now you can roll the curser over an item and a little window opens with the magnification - but you cannot zoom in any further. Anthro has this but usually there is a choice of a close up of the fabric and you can zoom in on that to see the fabric/details better. I can not longer zoom in to the fabric as well as before. Is this only on my browser? (Safari?) DO NOT like this at all.

    1. I've noticed it in the last couple of weeks. It isn't just a browser issue (I use a different one than you). Just another 'upgrade.' ;)

  4. Slow shipping! I placed an order on 7/23 that did not get shipped out until 7/30. I think it got lost & shipped back to the warehouse because it ended up shipping from McLean, Va. I had even initiated a lost package investigation with ups. I finally received it yesterday on 8-12 twenty days after placing the order. While I am happy to finally receive the skirt & not get the dreaded wish we had enough email, this wait time was unacceptable.

  5. As long as I am on a rant, how about the factory duplication of retail items. I'm kinda over it. I just scrolled through the factory early access offerings and felt like it was a scene from the movie Groundhog Day. Item after item from last fall. Show me something new. The only thing that really seemed attractive to me was the gray flannel horsey loafer because I don't recall seeing them before.

    1. Agreed. And some of the stuff languished in the retail sale section for so long I feel like it never left the internet! (Emrboidered-front tee, I am looking at you.)

    2. Yes! The embroidered front tees are STILL showing up on the retail side. They're in my closet as I bought them a long time ago when they were new arrivals and even I am sick of looking at them.

  6. I already complained about this today BUT - I would really, really love to see more in chocolate brown. Wool Minnies, a No. 2 pencil skirt in wool... something, anything. Why is chocolate brown so hard to find?

    1. I agree girl. Would love to have a pair of chocolate wool pants. Been looking for years!

    2. I've been looking for years, too. A nice chocolate brown merino sweater and brown matchstick cords are on my wishlist, too.

    3. Agreed. Chocolate is a great neutral for me (I love it with black) and JC hasn't carried much since 2007-08. I had a nice JC chocolate wool dress-jacket-trousers combo from 2005 that finally wore out. But it has to be real chocolate/espresso, not the odd greenish brown that JC called "Chestnut." DH called it "monkey$#%&."

    4. OMG, Hexicon! I purchased "Chestnut" corduroys on the dreaded final sale; they would be accurately described as baby poop. Off to the resale shop they went as I could never bring myself to wear them.
