Seek & Find: Will you visit J.Crew this Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopping by a J.Crew store this weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SALE, or to see some NEW ARRIVALS {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

P.S. I noticed that many of you have already been reporting sale items (and in which stores) in other posts which by the way "thank you!" :) I really appreciate how helpful we are for each other!

  1. Remember that the stores don't do a great job w/signs. If there's something you want and it's not showing on sale on the ticket or not signed as such, have it scanned.

    1. Gigi, I found the silver Maya's are also the perfect flat shoe to wear with the soft pencil skirt in colorblock that's currently 50% off.

  3. From the field: Foundry shorts marked to $24.99 in-store ($49.50 online), and the skinny twill utility pants (dusty pewter, I didn't see the other colors) are marked to $79.99 (FP online - $98). Both before 40% off.

  4. I stopped by the store yesterday and all sale was an extra 50% off. Not all stores are doing this. There are 2 retail stores near me and one had 50% off, but the other only had 40% off sale.

Some in-store prices (before the 50% off): Crab Top $69.99, Embroidered Floral Racerback Dress $89.99, Gemstone Floral Silk Top $89.99, Gemstone Floral Silk Dress $129.99, Cove Floral Silk Front Sweater $89.99, Cove Floral Silk Top $69.99, Pleated Shorts $24.99, Schoolboy Blazers in Black and Navy $99.99.

    Have a great week-end!

    3. Thanks Gigi! I'm not surprised the SF stores are stuck on 40. My VPS will generally honor another store's deal if it's better. I plan to let her know that there may be 50% off in select FL and NJ stores. Thanks!

  6. Hi all - despite our collective grumpy mood about J Crew, I feel like there are still a few opportunities, especially with basics, in the 50% off section on the site. (I am unlikely to make it to a store in the next while).

I wholeheartedly endorse the lightweight merino V neck - well fitting, great layering piece. Well worth $25. I paid more and don't regret it. Low risk even though it is final sale. (I know its summer, but fall will come soon!)

Anyone have any comments on the Bristol pants? I am eyeing them in linen.

Also considering the structured V neck shell, silk petal blouse, burnout patio skirt and the hooded basket weave jacket if I can find a medium.

    1. I purchased the linen Bristol pants in navy in store last week. I took my normal j crew pants size. They are a nice weight and not too long with heels. I am five foot four and sometimes regular length is way too long for me. I can't speak to if they are prone to wrinkling as I have not worn them yet but to me they were worth the sale price with % off. HTH! Also purchased the structured v neck shell and the v neck is very deep for me. Have to wear cami under it which I don't like. Nice basic top though. Thick material that does not show lumps and bumps.

    2. cousy - the lightweight merino v-neck is one of my favorites. I have several colors now - they're such a great weight for layering over or under & I love the bracelet-length sleeves! I think I have five now & will order more as long as they're available.

    3. Jess F - many thanks - very helpful.

      Taylor - you've got me beat! :)

    4. Greetings Cousy - I passed on the Bristol Pants in Herringbone Linen. My go-to size 6 was way too big, but size 4 was a little too tight. I own the Bristol Pants in Stretch Cotton and Size 6 fits fine in those. Same with the structured v-neck shell. My go-to size Small had a little extra room, but X-Small not enough. I had the opportunity to try both these items on in-store. I didn't need either of these items anyway, so this saved me some money! Both of these are FS on the website, so something to consider before clicking the "Buy Me Now" button. Good luck - Jennifer

  7. I'm chatting right now (online) with an SA trying to get a price adjustment from an order I placed on Monday for 30% off the sale prices. They're now 50% off & the guy is actually trying to tell me they're not 50% off & that the 50% off promo was only for one day! I am looking at it on my screen, each item I ordered is definitely marked extra 50% off now! I mean the difference is not a lot but still. Every dollar counts. This is nuts.

    2. Thanks gigi. He's starting to make me mad. He's saying the 50% off is only for final sale & all four of the things I bought are clearly marked as final sale. I have no idea what he's doing.

    3. I received my July catalog in the mail today. I thought it was some type of promo flyer. Black and white cover and about 50 pages. Starts with six pages of men's clothing. The hibiscus floral, which we've seen online, a sequined burgundy pencil skirt and pair of pants and a burgundy geometric sunglass print in a skirt were all that stood out. Trying not to be negative here. Maybe J. Crew is just saving its strength for a fabulous fall roll out? Let's hope...

  16. OT: Refinery just put up this teaser

"Forget J.Crew — this is where you should REALLY be shopping."

The link goes to this article about Land's End & their massive 48% increase in net income from last year. VERY interesting because wasn't it Land's End Canvas that was a J. Crew doppelganger? They only have 16 pieces available right now and used to have pages of it. I've been looking at Land's End swimsuits lately, but haven't purchased any.

    1. oh....it was Refinery on FB where I saw that.

    2. Lands End has always been pretty dowdy, but recently they have gotten so much better. I bought a LE striped knit jacket this spring that reminded me of (old) J Crew. And I paid full price! I bought a LE suede jacket sometime last year that was beautiful - very modern.

      Delete
    3. cousy - You were probably smart to buy when you did. When things go on sale at LE, they move very, very quickly.

      Delete
    4. Gigi- I have had really good experience with landsend swimsuits- I have 2 from them and they are quite slimming. I wear mostly size 0 in pants/skirt from Jcrew and size 2 for coats/blazers and both of my swimsuits from lands end are size 2. you can get them on great sales. both of my mine are one piece suits and it really helps in my trouble area- tummy. good luck and you can always return for free at sears stores.

      Delete
    5. Thanks, ladybug007. The ones that flatter the middle were the ones I've been eyeing. Good reminder about Sears returns. That makes it easy.

      Delete
    6. Their knit dresses are also great staples and you can get a good deal when they go on sale. They used to also have rewards points you could earn and redeem either there or at Sears. Another perk is that their CS has always been top notch in my experience.

      Delete
    7. Gigi- I love LE swimwear! (and LE in general!) I have several bikinis from them than fit better and are better quality than JC. Some are still a bit mumsy, but many are very cute and modern looking. I take a sz. small in JC swim, but need a sz.6 in LE swim (and yet take a sz, 2 in pants at both JC and LE) so there's not as much vanity sizing in LE's swimwear. They even have some really cute styles in the clearance section right now.

      Delete
    8. I have several LE swimsuits. They're *ok* on me, but they're the only place I can find the style of suit I like where I can mix and match sizes. (I prefer a skirt covering the tush - not a long one, but I prefer a little coverage back there). I think our sizing is close - In JC, I'm mostly a small, sz. 4 in tops and skirts and dresses, sz. S or 6 in pants. I sized up in the bottoms of the LE swim wear and vary between my usual size and a size up in the LE tops. Wait for one of their 30% off deals. HTH!

      Delete
    9. Land End swimsuits are my favorite! I can buy bikini tops and bottoms in mix and match, the tops fit nicely (and make me look like I actually have something up there....ha) and I always get them on ridiculous sale prices. I always get informed friendly service in my Land's End department. I don't know what has happened to the Canvas line. It seems to have almost disappeared. I'll have to go check it out next week and see what's new.

  17. Just in case anyone was wondering. The Friday promotion that J Crew is having today consisted of 25% off sandals and dresses, small cupcakes and creme sodas.

    1. Doodle Daschund - Mini cupcakes sound good! The stores I visit like to do Costco brownies or mini blueberry muffins.

    2. They actually were, I ate two! The creme soda was Cane Sugar Creme from Boylan Bottling Co. and it was delicious as well. I did pick up a pair of the metallic gold callie sandals for $69.99 less 40% so I didn't feel like such a mooch eating and drinking the refreshments. 18. Sorry to bother with an OT question. Does any JCA know what happens when JCrew doesn't accept returns? I mailed some return items to Lynchburg, and among them I included two tees I purchased on final sale. I received the email saying that my return arrived, but only mentioned the items that weren't final sale. Not a word about the two tees. I called customer service and they told me that there wasn't any note attached to the order number corresponding to the final sale tees so she couldn't help me. I'm going to let a couple of days pass and call again but was curious to know if you had a similar experience.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. ...I called CS again and they processed the return for the two tees. It seems that if JCrew doesn't accept your final sale return you either receive the items back on the mail or a reward card for the amount of your return. The CS will just deposit the money in my bank account as an exception.

      Delete
    2. So, even though you got a full credit for the returned FS items, if I had a FS item I returned to them, they'd give me a reward card/due bill for the items??? I've always just assumed I was stuck with it.

      Delete
    3. I'm not a very experienced JCA, I started buying in January so I wouldn't generalize my experience, but so far I didn't have any problem returning final sale items for a full refund. My post in this thread was actually my first 'problem'. So far I called JCrew in advance of my purchase whenever I wanted to buy final sale and explained that I wasn't sure about the sizing because I'm not able to try things on in stores before buying. I did this when I bought my majesty peacoat and lady day coat, and they placed a note allowing for a return in case I wouldn't keep them. With this reassurance I bought many items in the past few months. I returned the lady day coat without any problem (I loved the design but didn't like the quality and CS said that they would stand by their products and gave me a full refund). Then I wanted to buy matchstick cords but wasn't sure about the sizing, I again called in advance and asked sizing advice; one CS told me I'm P25 and another told me I'm P26. Bought 3 P25 which were too small and was allowed to return them and buy 3 P26 instead (I love them by the way, don't understand why they are still unsold on sale). I also bought a majesty peacoat, classic schoolboy blazer and hooded basket weave jacket in these conditions and I loved them and keep them. All of this in final sale, and with the reassurance that if I didn't want them I could return for a full refund. Sometimes I don't understand JCA's complaining about final sale, to me that's the only time I buy and never had any problem. Regarding what the CS told me yesterday, I don't know if it's always like this, that's just what she told me. Anyways this wasn't a big sum of money, just a $20 return, I wouldn't expect that they would make an issue out of it.

  19. I visited the Lenox mall store in Atlanta during lunch (right at 1pm) and there was a sign advertising the Friday event but I didn't see any refreshments. The sale section was packed but I didn't see anything I wanted that isn't in my online order on the way.. However they had lots of swimsuits in store which I assumed was online only.

  20. I would stop by, but I'm bummed that my local NYC stores are 40% off when others are 50% off sale. The inconsistency bothers me.

I'm also puzzled why some people are scoring the Cleo strip loafers with bow at a great price, while I'm told they are full price in store. Is it that only the "sandy reef" colorway are on sale? I'd better stick to the "reef blue"-- I know I'd get the other version dirty immediately ; ) (https://www.jcrew.com/womens_category/shoes/loafersoxfords/PRDOVR~A4978/A4978.jsp)

Sale sections were packed but most of my sizes were gone. I did snag black boy school boy for $60. I really wanted to get the merino scalloped sweater in the heather slate and navy in XXS and they did not have any left. they were 59.99 before 40% off. I tried on the arrowhead dress in neon in size 0- my usual dress size and I am not sure if that's the correct size for me or not. the Arm pit area was big- in any case size 00 is on it's way to be from an online order. I love shift dresses but not sure if this is going to work out. while looking at all the sale items, I felt like all the clothes reflected early/fall even winter as they were all every thick materials/wool etc. I feel like jcrew has really missed summer clothes this year- July roll out is fall clothes, right?

I took a bubbly water but resisted the cupcake:) I tried on the floral cove "scuba" dress, on sale at 89.99 plus 40% off in store. No bueno on me. I also think the dressing room lighting in the remodeled store is horrendous so I'm sure that didn't help. 2. LekkerNewYorker - Droopey rather than drapey lol. Very well described. I didn't button the keyhole when I tried it. Does buttoning it bring the hole together more or is a cami required for more conservative situations?

On me I had alot of gap in the arm hole with alot of bra showing. Ugh. And it's too low cut for day wear. At least for me. Sadly I order the pleated poplin skirt and it was too big. Geez. And the next size down is gone. BUT...I ordered in Petite. I'm not petite, but the petite in the skirt is as long as a No. 2 pencil skirt, so I thought I would try it. Also returned my full price two tone panama hat, cause it' almost 50% off now. I mentioned the Friday event and the SA's were surprised I knew about it because they had JUST learned about it that morning. Seriously, everyone who reads this blog knows MORE that the Crew employees!!! I suggested they read this blog to know what's really going on with their company and their customers. They are clueless. What a way to run a company!

    2. Interesting....upon having a second look in only one photo is a model wearing a few braclets.....all others are without any jewelley ? have we seen an end to big necklaces....or just a basic/bare look for summer. Or maybe someone on the shoot forgot to bring the jewels!

    3. Hmm, maybe the next thing we'll see is models wearing boat shoes or going barefoot on boats (instead of those spiky thin heels).

  37. OT, but I could use some advice. I placed a big order- big order for me-$350,, and I am unhappy with almost everything. (I got the hubby a t-shirt on sale and he's going to keep that...yay...) The Downing tote in heart-perforated leather is a bit overwhelming on my 5'3" self (so bummed), the pleated crepe short is NOT flattering on me (so bummed), 4" chino shorts are actually nice (typical), and the Barbour Hartpury jacket does not fit at all. I spoke to someone over Live Chat and I asked about the sizing of Barbour since I am unfamiliar. I am usually a 2 in Jcrew outerwear. She told me the jacket starts at a size 4 and that Barbour size 4 fits like a Jcrew 4. I went with the 4 since one review said it runs small. It definitely does not fit like a Jcrew size 4 (unless I've gained weight and I'm fooling myself) I really don't want to pay $5.95 to exchange this, especially since this is not my fault. Any of you ladies have experience with getting a free return? My local Jcrew does not carry Barbour. Should I email about this? Or am I being "that girl" and being too cheap? Lol.

    1. As far as I know the only thing you can't do is to return non-factory items to a factory store and vice versa. They should accept everything in your store. I'd recommend that you call CS first and make them add a note to your order saying that the return is authorized so that you don't depend on the lottery of getting a nice CS in the store. CS's are very different. Regarding being cheap, it is JCrew interest that you feel happy with your purchase so that you keep buying. If you find a CS that treats you as if you were trying to steal candy from a child then say a polite 'thank you' and call again. CS's are usually extremely nice and understanding from my experience. If I find an exception I call again.

  38. Ina thanks for the catalog post- I think the only thing that caught my eye was the maxi with the embroidered straps. It looks interesting. In the meantime I fond some good sales and may have spent too much 25 buck for each items was too good to pass out but it adds up. Also a little peeved about certain things i bought- as commented above they went down further so I'm going to take a few minutes to write down order numbers items and price difference so I can email CS. Also peeved about the crab top got i when it was on promo as a new arrival now it's on sale and an additional 30% off....ho hum

  39. I visited my store last night to check out the summer Friday event things going on. No refreshments were in my store. I entered the contest, but I had no idea what the special promo was until I was checking out (FWIW, the dresses and sandals were 25% off and each Friday is a different promo). I ended up getting a pair of the Andie chinos in fatigue. They were $46 and all sale was an extra 50% off, plus I used my student discount so they came to $20. I bought my regular size even though they fit a little snug at the waist because reviews seemed kind of all over the place. I wonder if a size up would have been better, but I didn't have time to try on another pair. I wanted to get the vintage cotton stripe-sleeve tee but my store doesn't have any. I hope J.Crew offers free shipping soon because I don't want to pay for shipping!

    1. Good deal on the Andie chinos, Kimi. I got the same color in my regular size and the waist felt a little snug on me too. They seem to stretch a bit with wear though.

    2. I thought they were tight in my regular size but after a day of wear they stretched out perfectly!

    3. Perfect, thank you guys so much! :)

  40. I paged through the July catalog while the nice ladies at the register tried to figure out how to process a web return where the packing slip was missing. "That shouldn't happen," one helpfully explained to me. Well, yeah. I was also told that they were not allowed to enter the order number that was shown on the sticker on the plastic wrap! Finally I convinced them to try, and all went well from there, to their surprise, but I was glad to have the catalog to focus on. In the unlikely event that one of them might be able to read my facial expression, right? So I think the skimpy July catalog served a useful purpose, and I think it also shows that JC is trying really hard not to over-order. However, I didn't bring it home with me.

  41. Thought this was an interesting piece on Jcrew that appeared on Bloomberg: http://mobile.bloomberg.com/news/2014-06-13/drexler-reaps-350-million-as-he-tries-to-revive-j-crew.html

    1. It is interesting. It implies people are rejecting jcrew for basics. This is why intjinknthe go back to basics argument is faulty. Too many other stores offer basics.

    2. I actually prefer to get my basics from Talbots. The tee shirts there are much nicer than J. Crews.

  42. Stopped by the factory store in Milpitas, CA and the whole store is 50% off. SA said it ends tomorrow. Was able to snag the pull on shorts in the emerald floral for about $17 ($34.97 clearance).

  43. Pop-back this morning of the Flowerpatch print peasant top on the website sale section. I just received mine on Friday and wore it yesterday. Posted photo on my blog here. I really like this top!

  46. That Bloomberg article is very interesting.

I stopped by yesterday. I bought the gray t with stars. It's was full-price, but I felt like I needed to buy SOMETHING. The sale section was a third of the store.

I really wanted to snag some cute shorts. J. Crew is my go-to for shorts every summer, and left with nada. The SA said new arrivals will be in store on Monday and it is the last of the summer rollout.

I really hope J. Crew gets it together for the fall. I usually buy SO MUCH for fall. But dang it, I really needed shorts. Curses, J. Crew!

  47. I stopped in yesterday with a pile of returns. The sale section was packed and I found a few things to try on and a few things came home as well. I tried on the white cotton pique lace dress, puff-sleeve seersucker blazer, lace shift dress in california poppy, and the stripe zip-back dress. You can see them on my blog here

The puff-sleeve seersucker blazer was marked down to $99.99 + 40% off which is a better deal than online. When I asked the SA to price match the online price of the pique dress I was told that they can do one price or the other - they could do the in-store price with their promo or the online price with the online promo. That was the first time I'd heard that.

    1. Yes I heard this during the recent promos, about the Cleo loafers BUT then the SA didn't even notice that the loafers had an online promo during the summer items promo because she didn't even try it. She is a manager, too. I didn't notice till I got home that the on line price PLUS on line promo was better deal than instore price plus instore promo (which at that time was 30% off loafers). It should not be so hard to be a customer.

    2. Anne, where did you see the seersucker blazer? Did you happen to notice if they had any in size 00? Thanks!

  48. Went to the Lincoln Park store yesterday. I bought the sleeveless pocket dress and...it's going back. This thing is too big. I used to be a small at J.Crew and I don't know what has happened to their sizes. The armholes on this thing are huge. I have never made more returns to J.Crew than in 2014. I'm about to give up, honestly. It has a terrible drape and just looks like a potato sack. Also, there were no real markdowns in the store and when I was checking out, I noticed a flyer that says they have a party every Friday with refreshments and markdowns, starting at 1 p.m. I had been there the Friday before and no such event was going on. I mentioned that to the associate and she said, "Ok, see you soon!" What?! I think the quality of the store employees has deteriorated, too. I was asked four times in a span of less then three minutes if I wanted to start a fitting room! Stop!

  50. ugh just made another purchase (I thought I was doooone) but those linen pants are too good to pass up at 44.99! Unsure of my size I just got 2 pairs in 6 and 8....figured I still spent less than 1 pair at full price and if one fits then I can consign the other....

  51. @innisfree I was at Walden Galleria in Buffalo, NY and I didn't notice other sizes, I usually go right to the back of the rack since I'm a size 10...but they had a full rack of them so it might be worth a call! Good luck!
