J.Crew To Partake in Flash Sales???

"Thanks!" to Calicoandtweed (in this post) who shared the following tidbit with us:
I have no idea of when or how or even if truly, but my in-store VPS told me that JCrew will be having summer Friday flash sales from noon to midnight- different sales/promos each time. If so, it might be interesting.
If true, then it would be fun to see what J.Crew would come up with for flash sales. J.Crew Factory tends to run really nice flash sales that last a day (typically 30% off and free shipping on everything). It would be great to see something similar at regular J.Crew.

UPDATE: "Thanks!" to Miss JR (in this post) who shared the following with us:
From my VPS:

SUMMER FRIDAYS@J.CREW: Everyone loves an excuse to shop, so why not celebrate the end of the work week with a trip to J.Crew? Starting Friday, June 13th, we will be kicking off a series of "Summer Friday" in-store. Events will run from 1pm - 9pm (close of business). On these special days, customers will enjoy:

Friday, June 13
Friday, June 20
Friday, June 27
Refreshments: Sweets and Sips!

Exclusive Promotions -Each Friday we will offer a different category promo for just that day.

Endless Summer Vacation Sweepstakes: we're partnering with expert hotel website Mr.&Mrs. Smith to give one lucky customer a 3 night hotel stay at The Betsy South Beach in Miami. Customers can only enter by attending a Summer Friday event.
Okay, I am pretty excited to see what J.Crew will do on those special days. It is a good way to get customers back in stores.

Did you hear any news about a J.Crew Flash Sale? If so, please share! :)

  1. I guess we're getting flashed.

    Mon - 40% off sale section w/TODAYONLY
    Tue - 30% off sale section w/SHOPNOW
    Wed - ?

They need to throw in some free shipping no min if they want this stuff to move.

    1. Maybe we're not getting flashed. I read the date wrong. SHOPNOW is good from 6/10 - 6/17.

  2. I read a few articles last week about J Crew's poor performance last quarter, which is partially attributable, these articles claimed, to their promo-heavy approach. Given that, I wonder what the thinking behind flash sales is.

    1. I have a post for tomorrow on this exact topic! This promotion seems to address some of the issues they are having.

  3. I don't think having a good promo leads to poor sales. I think having undesirable overpriced merchandise leads to poor sales.

    2. Undesirable merchandise, exactly! I have nothing in my cart and no desire to visit the B&M.

    3. What, you don't need a $150 bulky-knit sweater in June?

  5. It's a good concept, but I agree with others that I'm not buying because the original prices are too high and the offerings just aren't what I'm looking for. I'm loving Madewell more, but I don't buy because there aren't many sales.

    1. Agreed - plus, I don't think that this recent practice of excluding new arrivals from promotions is helping any. If I see something new with the red "EXCLUDED FROM PROMO" in my cart, I just turf it to my wishlist where it sit until it either goes on sale or I lose interest.

Regarding Madewell, I'm also liking their stuff more but there are few promos (and even fewer global promos) and things go to Final Sale on first markdown. However, when I have purchased (and I think the free ship/no minimum is a HUGE plus) I often have no regrets, am not checking the website constantly to see if it's been marked down, etc. I buy, wear, and enjoy.

  7. I don't have any insider news from stores (I live far away from them) but I noticed some recent developments in online pricing. At least in the case of two products I noticed that there were sales that lasted less than a day. I was stalking the webpage early in the morning during the 50% final sale (the only time I can afford JCrew) and saw two tees go from $10 to $7 including discounts, just for a few hours. In the case of the vintage cotton cap-sleeve tee, it was at $7 between 5 and around 8 in the morning. I had just purchased a couple of them for $10 and was going to call to get a price adjustment but since I didn't want to wake up anybody in my home I waited until I woke up at 8-9 a.m. The price was $10 again at that time (19.99 with the 50% discount) and costumer service didn't accept the price adjustment. Maybe JCrew wants to limit sales but doesn't want to lose low budget costumers, so they only give small windows of sales, which price concerned/perseverant shoppers can access anyways if they really try...

  8. I've got some OT news that other JCAs may be interested in.

Racked NY is reporting that J.Crew is going to have it's Sample Sale in NYC at the end of this month. June 24th to June 29th to be exact. You can check out the details in this post.

They are also reporting on a 24-Hr CFDA pop-up that will be in their NYC Prince street store starting June 12th. See the details here. I wonder how well their CFDA collab is doing this year.

And finally, there is this Dailymail UK article about the stock available at outlet and factory stores with heavy concentration on J.Crew's factory versus retail clothing. I wish some eBay sellers would read this. I know some deliberately try to pass off factory as retail but some others honestly don't know there's a difference. You can read the article here.
