JCA "Help Style Me!" Weekly Post

This is the weekly "Help Style Me!" post, where we can share items we are having trouble putting outfits together with. Elaine (in this post) says it best, "You know, that thing you bought because you love it and you keep pulling it out and then putting it away without wearing it?"

Please share your J.Crew item (either that you own or are thinking about getting) that you would love help creating an outfit with.

Also, please help out by offering your styling advice. Feel free to include links to your blog (where you incorporated that piece) or to Polyvore (where you showcased an outfit with that piece). Thanks in advance! :)

  1. Some styling ideas for new and older J.Crew items here.

  2. Visit this post for some of yesterday's cuts. I've listed the store prices for many of them as well. Surprisingly, the in-store prices and online prices seem to be matching up for the most part. Remember the stores have been offering an addtl 40% off final sale.

  3. Question about the chino shorts: for those of you between sizes, do you go with your smaller or larger size? Do they shrink in the wash much? Stretch out with wear?

    1. I'm not between sizes but they don't shrink. They might give a little during the day with wear, but they don't lose their shape. These are always a solid item from J. Crew.

  4. Kid Fabulous - I consistently take 6 in j crew, but go for 8 in the shorts. Two words: inner thighs. They ride up in the size 6. Sometimes they stretch out a little in the day, but not enough for me to get the 6. My hip size is 39" if that helps. I haven't had any issues w/shrinkage. HTH

    1. Yes this helps. Thank you! I was trying to decide between a 6 and 8 with a 40"ish hip size but was unsure due to all the crazy sizing.

  7. I am wondering how you style your Origami Dresses. I bought a couple in different colors for work or court or whatever but belatedly realize one cannot really wear a blazer with them. Do people just wear them to cocktail parties? If I don't get any ideas, you will see these lovely NWT dresses on the For Sale posting! I really like the dresses and they are flattering but now they seem a bit like closet orphans!

    1. Hi Margaret. I have a couple of the origami dresses. I wear them to work. It sounds like you work in a conservative office as do I. I also struggle with how to style this style of dress. I do wear it on its own in the summer but definitely could not wear it to court as the blazer option does not seem to work. I do wear the dresses with cardigans. I wear the navy dress with a navy cardigan which seems to work well. I would love to hear any other styling suggestions too!

    2. Thank you. My office is not conservative and these dresses are for other business events or occasions. I could see wearing them to work with a cardigan (though everyone would be shocked I was so dressed up!) but my intention was more formal. I have some lovely shawls which would work (colors work etc.) but then that is more avant garde than I need!
