Preface: A big "thanks!" to Cass (in this post) who suggested a "weekly 'Did you try on/receive any JC items this week?' post where we could all "deposit" our reviews for various items". I think it is a brilliant idea. Hopefully this will help out our fellow JCAs! :)
This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.
So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.
Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.
In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)
This is a great idea!
ReplyDeleteI just bought the "Denim short in mended indigo wash" they are amazing and if I could, I would wear them everyday!
ReplyDeleteI forgot to say that I recently bought the Surf tweed charter skirt and I really recommend it. The quality of the material is wonderful and I think it is a piece that can transition into Fall very easily. Runs very TTS.
ReplyDeleteJust received an order last night, and it's all going back!
ReplyDeleteAdriana silk tank: Way too large across the bust (I NEVER have this problem w/ JC tops), and if I had sized down it would have been too tight at the hips.
Ruched v-neck dress: fabric is a lot thinner/cheaper feeling than prior year's knit dresses; ruching up top makes chest look big.
Twisted tissue necklace tee: I keep trying on these tees hoping they will work out, but this one was just like a thin, sad men's undershirt with ribbons tacked across the front.
Some positive, from prior orders:
Crystal corona necklace: Not too heavy, drapes nicely.
tissue flutter tank: cute!
featherweight cotton ruffle-front cardi: I think perhaps they have improved the featherweight cotton after complaints? I am noticing it to be more substantial, but still lightweight. Cardi fits well, not too short, not too long, one hook and eye closure in the front just FYI.
Great idea! Received this week:
ReplyDeleteIsland Paisley Perfect Shirt - love! Fit is TTS, my regular Perfect Shirt size. Print is versatile and gorgeous, deep charcoal-almost black on ivory. I try to never pay FP for anything - well, rarely - but I feel this is worth it.
Silk Motorcycle Jacket - going back. The zippers on the sleeves are annoying, the fit is quite cropped on me, but loose and sloppy. Looks much better zipped, as most motorcycle styles do, but not for me, even in a nice silk fabrication. Wait for it to go to 29.99, and it will, then maybe.
Fleurette Pencil Skirt - TTS classic JC pencil, but shorter in length than others, which works for me, I'm 5"4". The print is pretty, great colors match a lot of tops I already own. My only criticism: the print is a little "blurry" looking, if that makes sense, and it doesn't seem as deliberate as a "watercolor" style.
HTH!
I also bought the the Fleurette pencil skirt but found it to run a bit small. I had to size up. Probably because I'm bigger in the hips/rear.
ReplyDeleteGood to know about the motorcycle jacket. I have been lusting over that!
Schyuler dress-TTS, I mistakingly ordered a size up and it was too big in the bust and waist especially. Although a bit too short for what I need.
Coralie cami-gorgeous, I love it! It just has a weird pull/bunch on the right side of the top. Other than that, I think it's perfect.
Ginny dress-perfection.
I recently ordered and sent back the poplin boardwalk jackets in both almond and pale cinnabar. The good - the pale cinnabar is gorgeous. The bad - they run large (my normal coat size 6 was huge on me), the brass snaps discolored the fabric, and the zipper was very cheap (not YKK brand). The zipper pull looked like someone took a paper clip, fashioned it into a rectangle and stuck it on there. The coat looked sloppy and got big "no"s from my family.
ReplyDeleteLightweight cotton shore dress (item 26556): I ordered this from the sale in an xs in white as a beach coverup and it looks like a short moo moo. It's huge and very unflattering. I definitely plan on returning it.
ReplyDeleteFeatherweight cotton ruffle cardi (item 26603): I got this on sale in the store in slate. I really like it, BUT, there is only one hook to close it, it doesn't have full buttons like most J.Crew cardis do. Also, since it's really thin the top part always folds down and it doesn't stay up like the Jackie which is made of thicker cotton does. It's still cute and I love the slate color so I'm definitely keeping it!
Ordered the Nadja Bomber Jacket - fit was short and bulky not what I was expecting, didn't close well (just one eyehook). This went back yesterday!
ReplyDeleteFound out I can wear some of the boys size 14 tees. Cannot wear girls sizes because I am too busty.
ReplyDeleteThe v neck plain boys tees are very soft, just the right length for layering and are not too boxy.
There are several colors in the sale section right now. and come out $7 plus change with the discount.
sub!
ReplyDeleteGreat Idea! It will be wonderful to have one place to go to get reviews.
ReplyDeleteI'll be back with some info....expecting a package soon!
Love Love Love my Beacon Tote in Pale Oak. So chic, so soft, so roomy, so unbelievably cool.
ReplyDeleteIt's already getting dirty, so am looking into how best to clean it. So worth it, cuz I love it and it makes me so happy ever time I carry it. Would love a pebbled version for the Fall..
Cropped ruffle cardigan (24578) - Definitely tissue-thin, which can be a good thing in the summer. Ran a bit large and was a sloppy mess on me.
ReplyDeleteWeekend halter dress (25402) - The soft violet color is beautiful, the fabric a nice drapey jersey not rayon-y feeling. V is not too low and the bust coverage was appropriate. BUT, no shape at all-hung like a sack with no waist definition. The back was too low to cover my bra. Too short on me and I'm only 5'6". Ran TTS to slightly big. A belt improved the look, but the low back makes it unwearable as a dress and it's just too shapless as a swimsuit coverup.
Oh, forgot to say I LOVE this idea!!!
ReplyDeleteI have ordered several pairs of shorts from J.Crew this summer: the 5" chino shorts, the 7" chino shorts and the Broken-In Boyfriend shorts.
ReplyDeleteThey're all fantastic. Soft against the skin and sturdy chino on the outside. I uncuff the boyfriend shorts but they sit well either way. You can't beat the colors either -- the shadow is a nice saturated navy, the canyon is a pale (but not too bright) yellow and the cognac is warm and goes with many other summer colors.
I love that J.Crew offers different short lengths. I hope they NEVER change this. Their chino shorts are perfection.
Felted wool bistro mini: I know this is an old item, and I'm not even sure if there are any still in stock, but I was finally able to get it during the last promotion. It's such a great fall/winter mini! I think it fits a little small (I am usually a 0 in JC skirts and got a 00). It's obviously short, and may be too short if you're taller. I like the length-- and I'm only 5'!
ReplyDeleteSchuyler dress: This one went back. The fit is a little weird... the bodice is really tight and the skirt part felt so loose and airy. I guess some people like that in a dress but I just wasn't feelin it. It's pretty short, too, but I think it fits TTS.
Tailored denim pencil skirt: Great alternative to jeans for casual Fridays! Fits TTS; I'm always a 0 in JC pencils. It has a little bit of stretch and looks really cute on.
Super 120s High Waisted Pencil Skirt: I have recently discovered JC suiting and already have 2 of these skirts. Love them!! Fit is TTS. Petite is definitely noticably more snug and is 2 inches shorter! At 5', a P0 is the perfect length.
Floral cara beach dress: Really cute beach coverup and summer casual dress. The bust is snug, but not overly so, and the bottom is roomy enough. I got an XXS since that's all that was left but I would suggest sticking to your usual size.
Linen-cotton shawl-collar cardi: Did not like this... I think I just don't like shapeless cardis that you need to belt. The material is a little cheap though.
Daisy day skirt: Just bought this at my b&m yesterday for final sale. It's a cute print and great summer casual skirt. It flares out a little more than it looks. I sized down for this one.
Forgot to mention that the V neck in the back of the Schuyler dress is really low... I wouldn't have been able to get away with wearing a bra
ReplyDeleteI had pre-ordered the Indigo-Stripe Schuyler dress in 2 sizes but ended up returning both of them. I do think it's cute, but the smaller size was a bit too large in the bust, plus it's pretty short. I did a review with IRL pics a little while ago on my blog: Click here to see it. :)
ReplyDeleteOrdered the Hockney Tote and Hockney Hobo recently. Leather looked and felt nice. Both are nicely constructed, lineded and detailed with inside pockets.
ReplyDeleteBoth are also HUGE. Tote could easily work as a weekender. Because I wasn't sure I needed a weekender, I returned the tote and ordered the hobo. When the hobo arrived I was shocked to find that it was almost as big as the tote!
Island Paisley Bubble Skirt: Very comfy and cute, great length if you like your legs, true to size, made well.
ReplyDeleteIsland Paisley Perfect Shirt: Also very pretty! The fabric is very lightweight and nice for summer, fits true to size and I've noticed... all their perfect shirts fit the same way! Yay!
Timex vintage field army watch: Okay, I finally decided to get this, and I love it! The white face is so pretty compared to the other option, the watch case isn't smoothed over to give it the vintage feel, could fit anyone, and the straps are easy to switch out! A must-buy if you need a watch! And worth the money!
Neon sparks tee: Cute neon specks, substantial fabric (5% polyester which surprised me), fit is relaxed/slightly large and far too long in the body... probably going back.
ReplyDeleteSpace dyed tee in grey: Love. Unique fabric - very lightweight but not sheer, fit is TTS and flattering. I'm loving the "open crewneck" a lot of the tees are sporting lately.
Cotton hammock dress in grey: Love. Fit is TTS, all hems are finished, has bra strap keepers, very flattering and just a great casual dress for hot days or would work great as a beach coverup too.
Grommet belt in black: Another love. Picked this up on a whim for $9.99 and it's perfect. Nice width, gold grommets add a little interest to the basic black leather and also allow the belt to be worn at waist, on hips or anywhere in between.
Gallery stripe Marlie shell: Torn on this one. Size down one like many J.Crew shells. Very straight fit, but looks cute belted and neckline/armholes are perfect, not too low or high. BUT the "white" part of the stripes is actually more of a faint blush color instead of white/ivory as I was expecting - so it kind of looks like I threw it in the wash with a red sock.
Great idea!
ReplyDeleteJust two reviews for now...One, the toothpick jean in Amore wash is a LOVE. I am late to the whole skinny jean trend; tried these on a whim and surprisingly fell in love. The material is lovely and stretchy. They are a great deal with the 30% off!
The Cotton hammock dress in orchid shadow was a miss. I love the color and the knit material, but the fit was all off for me. First, the straps didn't flatter at all (although I have broad shoulders so maybe that's why). It was very short (mid-upper thigh on me, and I'm 5'6"). I ordered an xs and it was still loose on me. Don't be dissuaded from trying it out, though. Dinagideon loves hers. It's just one of those dresses that you need to try on to see for yourself!
Awesome idea. I am constantly looking for online reviews since I don't have a store where I can go an try items myself.
ReplyDeleteLove this thread, thanks Alexis!!
ReplyDeleteA few favorites from recent orders:
ReplyDelete-Chiffon Tiered tank- LOVE LOVE LOVE this top! It is cotton modal so it has a great stretch and is dressy enough to wear under a suit for work. I think it runs a bit big so I would order down a size. It is also long so perhaps not great for anyone petite.
-Big fan of the Carona & Trap glass necklaces and get a lot of compliments on both
-Rumpled Sateen tote- Super fun color for Summer, Leather handles, roomy with lots of pockets and for $49- totally worth it!
-Linen-Cotton Shawl cardigans- I didn't notice them until my SA had one on and then I ordered it in 2 colors. They are fab with a tee and some fun jewelry and I will probably be able to wear them into Fall.
-Sent back the Nadja & lollipop jackets:(
Alexis- Love this post!
Nice idea thanks :)
ReplyDeleteI have on hold probably won't get...
Cashmere zip pocket cardi. I was interested in this when it came out because I love my shrunken cashmere hoodies from several years back and thought it may be a bit similar. However for me I have fit issues. BUT there are several provisos (sp:)?? I am very very small so if you are a bigger size, broader shoulder and or have a bust, try it.
For me this cardi was cut sort of wide, and is also hip length. The length is not a problem, but the neckline and zipper were weird. Zipped up it was just okay but the problem is that the top of the zipper hit about 4 inches below my sternum which is odd. So then unzipped it also looked weird because it had the gold zipper part starting way down on each side. I looked at it with my friend, he is a manager in the store and we agreed it looked funny. The V is just very low.
The pluses, I thought the cashmere was nice and thick, the zip pockets were cute. It was nicely finished. Some nice colors. The navy was nice - I was not in love with the contrast of the gold zippers on the hanger, liked it better on, also the pale apricot color (my favorite but that is because it suits me), sepia (brown) if you wear that color, and the lavender (also love).
So for me it did not fit the bill for an addition to my zip up/shrunken hoodie type cardi collection sadly. I won't spend money for something even on sale if it is weird fitting, but others may like this. I would advise not to buy on Final Sale/try before buying.
Oh I was trying the XS. I am 28" bust and tall but proportionate ie not long torso or anything, so nothing is going to 'fit' tightly on me. That was not the issue, it was the neckline/style/zipper placement.
wondering about the zip cardigan and cotton pere cardigan?? recently purchased a linen/cotton shawl cardigan in pale buff color and really like it--perfect to throw on over a dress or tank for summer, and could work into fall,as well.
ReplyDeleteI know someone else already reviewed this item, but I thought I'd share my thoughts too (which are pretty much the same)
ReplyDeleteIsland Paisley Bubble Skirt: I rarely buy JC items at full price but when I saw this, I had to try it! Fits TTS and it is a really nice material and amount of bubble. I think it's a great addition to any summer wardrobe!
Does anyone by chance own the tailored denim pencil skirt? I bought one online last night, since I've been looking at it for a loooong time (they're now backordered in a 10 and will shipin Oct.) but I'm a little worried about the fit. Description said the front was pleated and the back was seamed for shaping ... the hero shot of the skirt showed the front but there were no front pics I could enlarge or zoom in. If this skirt adds paunch to my middle, I'll cry!
ReplyDeleteI'm currently between sizes, so I'm not sure I can add any value to the thread, but here goes ....
I bought 2 of the pleated flower vine tanks during the last % off promo and I ended up returning both. After just 1 or 2 wearings and before even being laundered, they stretched out in a very weird way. I didn't hang them & I'm not busty so not sure what happened, but they are tissue weight, so who knows...
Also, I must have tried on 15 pair of vintage matchstick jeans -- the distressed ones. They fit VERY oddly. For some reason I don't understand, the waist is enormous. I finally settled on a size 30, a full size smaller than I normally wear, and after a few wearings, they start falling down again.
Is it becuse there's no lycra in them? if that's the case, I may be done with non-stretch denim. The same thing has happened to some gorgeous Crewlet cutoff shorts I bought on ebay *and* the destroyed denim cutoff shorts I bought at Mdewell a few weeks ago. :-/
Last but not least, I bought the pretty watermelon pink nail polish made exclusively for Madewell by Butter of London and I loooooooooove it. It's a perfect summer toe color, and so far it's held up amazingly well, as well as an OPI pedi, I'd say! I recently bought a bunch more Butter polishes off of eBay and I love those too. Highly recommend.
Elaine, I bought the tailored denim pencil skirt and I really like it. If you're between sizes, I suggest sizing down. I'm always a 4 in JC pants and shorts, and this skirt is a bit big on me. I've just been belting it. I don't think the pleats are too pronounced either. HTH! :)
ReplyDeleteAw crap. I sized up. I was on the fance and figured better to be a little big than too small ... maybe I'll get it taken in. Thank you!
ReplyDeletePaper Poplin Perfect Shirt in the most amazing brilliant lavender has sold me to buy perfect shirts in all colors and patterns. Amazing fabric! I got this on a whim and it's been my favorite purchase thus far
ReplyDeleteI got the check shirt in navy too, and want the gingham checks now!
I can second the broken in boyfriend chino shorts; I wear a 0 or 2, and got a 0 in these as they are slouchy and stretch out during wearing. But they are flattering rolled short or left un done.
I'm still struggling to find a summer pant that fits, the scout is too baggy and the skimmers are too tapered.
Does anyone have a review of the Claudette bag? I was lucky enough to snag one of these last week (before the promotion, but oh well!) but having received it, am not sure how easy it will be to care for. I am the mom of three little kids (5-8), so I usually go with leather... Any comments would be so appreciated -- I really want to keep the bag!
ReplyDeleteOT: But I could really use the vast J. Crew knowledge I know you JCAs have.
ReplyDeleteCan anyone identify the cardigan in the link below? Either by name or style number? TIA.
http://tinyurl.com/3xmb23b
Thanks everyone for sharing your amazing reviews. Everyone is being super helpful... I love it!
ReplyDeleteAlso, thanks again to Cass who came up with this post. It is a great idea!!! :)
Marseilles Floral Cami, item #26995... I tried on and bought it today. I actually had to size up for the wrap front to lay properly. In my normal size (4) it looked all wrong but in a 6 it looked perfect! I love the print, and the material is substantial (not sheer at all).
ReplyDeleteHi all,
ReplyDeleteAn IRL pic of the cotton guaze petal cardi on my blog here
Not to eveyone's taste probably, and very, very sheer!
Garden ribbon shift dress: The execution is beautiful with the pretty watercolor motif and organza material. A silk lining in this dress would have been nice given the organza.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, this dress wears quite stiff and unforgiving. The top is boxy. (Notice the model wearing a belt.) If i sized up, the bodice puckered open, and sizing down, it was very fitted with little room for sitting.
If you like this one, i think this dress is best for a smaller bust with slim hips. Also, it's on the short side, so a consideration if you're tall.
I'd be curious to read others' opinion on this dress.
Asymmetrical ruffle cotton dress: Love it! Fits true to size and is so comfortable. Hides all bumps and lumps. :) It is one of my go-to dresses for the summer. Looks cute with a cropped jacket too.
Totally OT, so I apologize! A small group of us Baltimore/ DC area JCA's are getting together this Sunday evening, 6/27. Of course, shopping is involved and perhaps a bite to eat afterwards. If you're interested, please email me (I can't post all of the details here.) redhed_01 at hotmail dot com
ReplyDeleteAlexis, you are so sweet with the shout-out. Really appreciate all your work on the blog...it's a nice little pick me up for me during the day!
ReplyDeleteOT-Sorry. Beware... My ENTIRE order from Monday was just cancelled-arghhh. Yes all 8 items:( very sad.
ReplyDeletePixie: Do you have an online personal shopper? When you order items, and they go on sale before you even get it, I ALWAYS get the credit. Forget about calling general customer service - unless you get them on their famous line "We'll do it this one time...."
ReplyDeleteAlexis: I LOVE this idea! This is THE J Crew resource!
Thanks for all you do!
Michelle: The sweater looks like the Linen Seafront Cardigan (style no. 15141) from SP09. HTH!
ReplyDeletePixie:
ReplyDeleteI own and LOVE the claudette tote. I am so glad I bought it. It is wondeful in that it is chic, and family friendly (the silk is very sturdy, in my opinion). I have in real life photos on my blog (My Superfluities) somewhere. I don't have much time tonight or else I would look it up for you myself, but you can search through the blog and you should be able to find the post with its photo! :) Good luck. I think you will also HEART it big time...
Meme you are a lifesaver. I must have looked through 10 different old catalogs but didn't go far back enough I guess. Thanks again!
ReplyDeletePixie: And now I sound like an idiot. LOL. You have it. Duh!
ReplyDeleteAnyhow, I found that it held up well to the days I wore it out and about...but to each his own. I love the weight and the chain bag and feel like that is more important to me than if I get a small stain on the tafetta. :)
Good luck. Let us know what you do!
Recent purchases include the oak tweed pencil skirt, which I love and highly recommend. Also got the grommet belt in both ivory and black for $9.99. The ivory is great with the oak tweed skirt! Paper poplin perfect shirt in the avocado green color. I had previously purchased the lavendar color to wear with my neapolitan skirt and I love the fit.
ReplyDeleteI picked up several of the featherweight cotton cardigans on sale, the longer ones. They look great belted over dresses and skirts. I live in a warm climate so I appeciate that they are a thin cotton, yet not too sheer. Perfect for the chilly office building.
I would kill to get my hands on a Claudette tote. Decided I couldn't live without it too late. Every time it pops back I miss it. I'm so sad.
ReplyDeleteOak tweed skirt: Just received it today, LOVE! Fits TTS, great quality fabric.
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know how the flower mosaic embroidered tunic fits?
Just bought the seersuckered gingham perfect shirt in abyss blue. TTS or maybe a teeny big. I LOVE it. It's a perfect cotton for summer.
ReplyDeleteMadewell black/white striped zipper hoodie. Super cute, length covers hips, but it runs narrow. I could barely close it to zip it up and when I did, I could hardly move my arms in fear of ripping the back.
HTH
I've bought the Linen Cotten Coverstitch tanks (24534) in nearly every color since they went on sale. I love the fit, the fabric and the colors. They make a fantastic base-layer that you can pare down to on hot summer days.
ReplyDeleteIf there are any left, size down - waaay down. I usually wear size 6/8, and I bought these tanks in size XS. The fabric stretches when worn (body heat?) and becomes baggy.
I learned this the hard way by tearing the first one I bought out of the bag, heather stone in size S, wearing it immediately, and wishing I'd waited to exchange for size XS. Within 20 minutes the front of the tank was so baggy I had to keep tucking the straps under my bra straps, under the shoulders of my jacket so I wouldn't flash my dinner companion.
Alas, the same is also true of the Tissue Sequin Spotted Tank (26533), which I recently picked up on sale in size S at a B&M in the Boston area. It was the only one left in any size, so I felt like I'd scored, which is probably which I chipped down $39.99 for it.
It's pretty, but it's longer IRL than it looks on the model online. It comes down over my hips and backside a little farther than I'd like. Also, there are a lot more sequins around the bottom of the tank than is probably necessary.
The sequins are sewn onto both the front and back, so it's strange to feel them press into your skin when you lean back in your chair at dinner, or when you're driving. It's not uncomfortable, per se, just strange.
My other concern with this tank was that I'd catch the sequins on all sorts of things and they'd fall off, but there are so many clusters that it probably wouldn't matter!
I'd lusted after it for so long online that I nearly wore it out of the store, tore the tags off that afternoon wore it out to dinner and again found myself tucking the straps up under my jacket and worrying all night that I was revealing too much skin!
Happy shopping!
Has anyone seen the Hockney Tote IRL and have any comments about it? I'm thinking about pulling the trigger before the sale ends, but haven't seen it anywhere except online. Thanks!!!
ReplyDeleteSuzy and Dina, thank you so much for your comments! I decided I will keep the bag... it is so pretty! Dina, love your blog and did see you mention the bag -- was hoping you would chime in!
ReplyDeleteOn other purchases, I am a sucker for the perfect shirts and the pencil skirts, which I find to be happily reliable in fit. Yay!
I also have a ridiculous amount of J. Crew jewelry! Based on comments here, people seem to generally love or hate it, and I fall into the former category. Some recent pickups: (1) the Martha bracelet (item 28403), which is crystal (as opposed to cut glass) with a lot more sparkle that in my opinion makes it worth the extra $; (2) the pearl twisted hammock necklace (item 22599), which is large (I'm only 5'2", 105 pounds) but not overwhelming -- I LOVE it!; (3) lady four-strand pearl necklace (item 21846), which I got with Alexis' birthday promotion (how wonderful was that?? Thank you Alexis!). I know it's questionable whether we should buy real jewelry from a clothing store -- even the sales associates tried to talk me out of it! -- but with the 15% off, it was a decent price and although the pearls are not spectacular (they aren't graded), they are pretty, and the four strands of different sized pearls make it a substantial, unusual necklace. I thought I might return it when I ordered, but I ended up loving it. (4) faceted raindrop ribbon cluster necklace -- I saw this in my b&m last week for $39.99 and picked it up -- the ribbon was a bit ratty, but I'm not a huge fan of all this messy ribbon anyway, so I carefully cut it off and luckily, was very happy with the result -- a very pretty unusual necklace, minus the mess!
Alexis, such a fabulous helpful idea, especially since the J. Crew website has no reviews. Thank you!
Have any of my fellow P0's tried the crewcuts girls' tees/tanks in the newly-offered size 14? I've grown very frustrated with most of the women's tees/tanks being too large and WAY too long, even in XS. Really thinking I could rock the Girls' feisty flutter tank, although at the moment it only seems to go up to size 12 :(
ReplyDeleteAlso wanted to add a plug for the paisley poem blazer (25607), which I have not read much about online... It is very similar in cut, if not identical, to the roses vines blazer (25959), but for me (I am Asian -- olive skin, black hair), it is a much more wearable color. It is a beautiful print, and somehow appears to have an overall, neutral-ish color. It complements my skin, whereas the roses vines print somehow washes me out (although I have to admit, I have this too, and like it nevertheless...) Both jackets are quite fitted -- I need my freedom of movement, so I ordered a 4 instead of my usual 2, and it still looks fine...
ReplyDeleteDara, I'm a petite 00 and have thought about trying the girl sizes, too... particularly the cashmere sweaters.
ReplyDeleteDara (and Bright Young Thing) - I take anywhere from a size 0 to 4 (or even 6) in J.Crew tops, and I've had luck with Crewcuts size 14, especially anything jersey or with some stretch. I've bought plenty of tees - sometimes the sleeves are a bit more cap sleeve than regular short sleeve, but they fit fine, and I'm comfortable in them (which is the important thing to me). I bought a Crewcuts dress in size 14 as well, and it fits well as a tunic length type of thing - a bit on the short side, but fine otherwise.
ReplyDeleteJust for reference, I have broader shoulders, and am a 36B/C bust.
Fiore Cotton Cardigan: So cute but the quality is really lacking. I noticed a long thread hanging down from the elbow the first time wearing it. I snipped it off with scissors, without pulling on it or anything. By the end of the day, a big hole in the elbow had unraveled. On top of that, the fabric is rough and not very comfortable.
ReplyDeleteMy bad, wrong cardi! The Fiore Cotton Cardigan is fantastic, great quality! I was referring to Featherweight Cotton Ruffle Cardigan.
ReplyDeleteJust received today crystal patch earrings and necklace. The earrings look so cute on the model in the video on the website. I think those earrings must have been modified b/c the actual version look like big clunky cloth things hanging from your ears. Also, one of them arrived totally broken, and you have to bend the ear posts down to get the clasp on the other side to fit over them. Even if they hadn't arrived broken, they'd def be going back. The necklace seems to be much better quality, and looked so cute on mannequin in store, but on me I thought the patches were just a bit too obtrusive.
ReplyDeleteOh well, got some better deals on clearance jewelry in-store this week! (Infinity earrings for $14 and salon bracelet for $21!)
Just got the chino bubble skirt in wild mushroom....I LOVE it! Super cute!
ReplyDeleteFits TTS, pretty short (I'm 5'8" and took a small - it falls just below mid-thigh), very full. And bubbly and pleaty all over (not sure if pleaty is a word)
It looks just like the picture online, so if you like the way it look on the model, I def. recommend....I tend to like the crazier J. Crew stuff :-)
I know that this dress has been out for a while, but I just wanted to put in a good word for the Painted Silk Bridget Dress. It is so pretty and unique, and I get compliments on it every time I wear it, from people who can't believe it's J. Crew!
ReplyDeleteDaisy Day dress, i tried it a while ago at my B&M but I noticed it went on sale today.
ReplyDeleteFits TTS. Liberty fabric is beautiful and substantial. The quality of it seems very good. It has built in support in the bodice (almost like a corset) so it stays on pretty well. It even has a strap with hooks to tighten the waist. The cut on the top is very flattering. It is longer than some recent offerings (i.e. schuyler dress)I am 5'7" and it came down about 2 inches above the knee. I think it would works best for relatively straight figure. If you are a pear it would definitely accentuate the hips and if you are busty you may need more support. But the ruffles actually lay more flat irl than on the website which is a good thing. Overall, if you like strapless, are not afraid of ruffles all over your bum, don't mind shorter length and don't plan to wear it to the office it is a fun, flirty, girly dress.
Couple of super quickies:
ReplyDeleteGingham schoolboy blazer (27098) - TTS (I think, since they only had one size up and one size down from my normal size and neither fit just right). I seem to remember reading negative fb on this one but I liked it. As others have noted, it is only partially lined.
Piped-and-twisted pocket cardigan (26139). I sized down bc the knit is so thin I think it will stretch out. Note that the trim on the pale buff color is black, not navy.
Cotton-wool ruffled placket cardigan (27843) - TTS to a bit small. Thin knit, but I like that it's washable.
Linen-cotton shawl-collar cardigan (25683) - TTS. Tried it on really quickly, but liked it. Can hardly beat $24 in-store for a light summer-y cardi (stores have additional 20% but final sale)
Draped glass necklace (27998) - really pretty but didn't like the way it laid on me bc it's not symmetrical. The large and small parts aren't spaced evenly and I thought it was really noticeable toward the top.
I tried the Shimmer crinkle shell in my B&M the other day and since it is 20% off I though some may consider it. I really liked this top. The style and look is similar to Grand Ruffle top (LOVE it!) but this one is a closer fit. The ruffle down from does a great job if you don't exactly have a 6-pack abs and it is not a see through. I liked the slight shimmer and bronzed twig color. It would go with everything and can be dressed up and down. I love that it is not too long and does not bunch up at the bottom. I think the difference between S & M was pretty significant unlike some other JC tops. The S was rather snug on me but the M was baggy. The shoulders were narrow and it would look better with racerback type bra. If you want to show off your toned arms (I wish this was my case) this is a great top. If not, I think it would look great with a cardi but I did not try it.
