"Thanks!" to many of you, including Marietta, who shared with us the latest news from J.Crew this morning.
J.Crew is reminding customers that today is the last day to take 20% off any purchase from the Sale section {no minimum} and free shipping {on $150+} with promo code EXTRA20.
I honestly thought I was going to let this promo pass me by. But sure enough, I pulled the trigger on a few items this morning. Is it just me, or did some new items get added *and* some of the prices get reduced today too?
I also stopped by a store today to do some returns and noticed that a ton of their tees are on sale ($14.99-24.99). What was even more interesting was how many were available in all sizes. I get it too. Even at the sale price, the tees are cheaply made (or maybe because they are so thin, I think they are cheap). I think J.Crew might be over-doing their tee line now. Maybe producing less tees, but at a higher quality would be a better move.
Will you be taking advantage of this promotion before it ends? Are there any sale items you are interested in getting?
I made a purchase last night. And today new additions were made to the sale section. I'm surprised at how quickly new arrivals are ending up in the sale section. There are several items that have only been out a few weeks.
ReplyDeleteJenLynn: Thanks for letting me know that some new items got added to the sale section too! I thought it was just me who noticed it. And I agree, some of the items on sale weren't full price for very long! :)
ReplyDeleteWHY do they add new items?! I placed an order earlier this week and since I have no willpower I'm going to place another one. Dang it J Crew!
ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree more about the quality and the style of tees. Enough of painted tees and tissue thin ones! Seriously, these are like disposable clothing! Even at $10 more or less I'm not tempted to get them.
ReplyDeleteI also noticed some new items and lowered prices on the sale section. I placed an order for few new things added this morning. Wow, some of the items were added to the sale section really quickly. Also, a bit shocking to see a $350 Collection item drop to $149.99 in the first mark down (Lollipop Ribbon Jacket).
I would love to see J.Crew come up with more unique styles and prints like Anthropologie has been doing.
They added items that were like, last rollout new - such as that spots and sparkles cami. The torque moto cardigan was marked down to $49.99 (from $118), and had an additional 20% off, making it $39.99 - about $78 off for a first markdown! Also, the impressionist cami was $29.99 (before 20%) from $88 - another first markdown of more than 50%. Pretty crazy!
ReplyDeleteAlexis, I totally agree about the tees - some of them are such garbage. Not to mention so many of them look the same - I spent about 3 minutes this morning looking at the ruffled henley tank and the flounce hem henley tank trying to figure out how they were different!
I agree what is going on with their tees? there are too many without the right quality, come on jenna!

Yes I noticed a few new styles added and many prices lowered since Monday. I have had my eye on the Nadja jacket for some time and it went from $199 on Monday to $139 today + 20% making it only $111 for a $325 jacket. BUT I may be disappointed when it arrives as I have not seen any reviews... I also picked up the lollipop jacket which was a new addition to the sale section @ $149 from $350. Probably won't keep both jackets but wanted to pick up on sale before my size disappears. I also noticed that the trap glass necklace came down in price as well as the spots & sparkles cami. I do appreciate J crew adding these new styles prior to the 20% ending because they usually show up the next day.
ReplyDeleteHas anyone tried the Lollipop jacket? I have the Dauphine tweed so maybe if I get both it's too much tweed going on?
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone also have RL picture of the Nadja Bomber jacket?
Thanks!
I see absolutely nothing in the sale section that I want, so I doubt I'll order from this promotion.
ReplyDeleteI did, however, purchase a FULL PRICE navy blue jackie at the mall yesterday. I wanted to wait for a promotion, but I'm on vacation and I'd like to wear the sweater today.
I also bought an absolutely adorable aqua blue ruffled cardi at Talbots. So cute! And it only cost $19 after the $50 in red card promotion certificates I had.
Curiouser and curiouser, she cried. Interesting how many items have gone straight to dramatic mark-down, including that lollipop jacket. Seems like a company trying to unload massive amounts of merchandise. .... I am right there with others who are tired of all the tees. Much as I'm sure there's a great mark-up involved because they're obviously so cheaply made, it seems like it'd be smart to cut back just a bit - sale sections are weighed down and stuffed with ratty tees looking for homes ...

ReplyDeleteI agree their tees are garbage, I have two from this season and they both developed holes.
ReplyDeleteI am not taking part in this promo, I have decided to stop shopping J Crew for awhile, I don't need anything and I have items in my closet still not worn, it just crazy to continue to lust after items when you do not need the item in the first place and then be dissapointed when the item does not live up to expectations. J Crew has to improve their quality.
Totally agree on the tees. Way too many, all churned out too fast and low quality. Get back to making flattering, pretty tees that actually work for everyday use.
ReplyDeleteI did cave and buy the Turkish Delight Skirt, which arrived yesterday. I like it, but mostly because I just love the pattern and colors. The material is very thin though, and not especially flattering. Plus, it has no give, so I already have a tiny tear at the seam where my thighs are widest. argh! But I'm keeping it regardless. Just love the colors and length.
I also got the pretty ruffles jersey dress. Nice fabric and decent length (a tad short for my preference, but doable). The ruffles on the shoulders are no joke though. They are kind of massive, so not sure if I'll keep that. They stick way out.
note to anyone purchasing (or looking to purchase) the softspun cotton cardigan: mine developed a hole in the under arm seam after ONE day's wear. i put it on at 9am and acquired a hole by 6pm. unbelievable. and i even bought a medium for a looser fit. glad i bought this one on sale, at least.
ReplyDeleteTwiga: Great minds think alike! I ordered the Lollipop jacket and Nadja bomber jacket, too! Love the price reduction AND 20% off.
ReplyDeleteI went to J. Crew Factory Store last Thursday. The whole store was on sale. I got tons of stuff including lots of tees. I thought they were all GREAT.
ReplyDeleteMethod Clothe
Buttercup-How funny! We will have to compare notes when they arrive... I also considered the Collier jacket but the price was still steep and the back looked wierd??
ReplyDeleteMy softspun cardigan also has a rip in it. Where one of the bottom button was sewn on. I love the lagoon green color but definitely wish it was not so delicate.
ReplyDeleteTHANK YOU so much for the heads up! The Andre dress I ordered a few days ago was marked down $30 so I just called & received a price adjustment. Alexis, you rock!
ReplyDeleteFor those considering the Lollipop Jacket. I bought it FP, decided it was way too much, returned and now I ordered it again. Imo it fits tts. It is somewhat boxy and on me it was similar in fit/sizing to Rose Vines blazer with not much waist definition. I took 6 in this jacket and wondered if I need an 8, while I bought 4 in Dauphine and 2 was a great fit everywhere but the armholes. I am 34D for a reference. The tweed is very nice but delicate and it will have tendency to snag, I think because of the 'ribbon' content. Overall workmanship, and quality is very good. It reminds me of similar Kate Spade jacket from this season but at $120 it now it has a very good price. It has unfinished edges but from my experience they do not unravel. The tweed is very different from Collier or Dauphine, thinner and making it much more suitable for spring/summer. It is definitely a 'special' jacket and it will be noticed. The color is actually quite subtle I think more peach than orange. Overall, if you like it in the picture you should not be dissapointed. When I bought it FP I thought I would never wear it enough to justify the price but at $119 I think it is reasonable for the quality.

ReplyDeleteI did not want to order anything this time but since they updated the sale section, I had to order the Ribbed Ruffle Vest from 78 to 39.99 after the 20% promo
ReplyDelete~another day, another order [sigh]...
ReplyDeleteToday I purchased few more items, including white frances ruffled tuxedo shirt, Silk-linen ruffle henley in antique violet and rosy peach, another(!) featherweight cashmere cardi in bright cantaloupe and Liberty floral daze cardigan ($55.99). I am so glad this PROMO is ending today.
I agree that most of the tees this season look the same. I have so many nice tees from last year. The only tee I bought this season was Max and Molly, by some reason I just had to buy it.
Can anyone comment on Collier jacket? Does it fit like Dauphine? I only saw it on Tres Tippy looking gorgeous but she is so petite comparing to me... How about Metallic moss jacquard skirt? I sized up to 6 to wear it lower on hips but wondering if I should get an 8?
ReplyDeleteCan anyone help with fit feedback on the collier jacket, please? TIA.
ReplyDeleteajc,
ReplyDeleteThank you for the great review on the Lollipop Jacket. Now I have to buy it.
I was pleasantly surprised to see the Tailored Linen Maybelle jacket on sale and ordered it in wet peat along with the Crystal Carlyle Necklace and Prism bracelet in gunmetal. 2 orders I've placed with this promo and now I'm done!!
ReplyDeleteI reordered the nadja, which i had ordered at the 199 minus 20% but it just dropped another $60. Haven't gotten the first one yet so i may be returning two of them if it doesn't work out but didn't want to lose out on cheaper price in my size if i liked it. Also picked up a few new additions to the sale--twisted pearl hammock necklace and metallic pom pom flats.
ReplyDeleteComments on a few other items others have mentioned: pretty ruffles jersey dress--got this before, would have been good but YES the shoulder ruffles are huge, so i had to return. the SA asked why i was returning and i said it made me look like i had wings.
lollipop jacket--i saw a 70-yr old woman wearing this at the bus stop with brown polyester-looking pants and since then I just cannot buy it. I think the orange really dates it.
The tee quality might be partly a style issue. Designer tees are really thin and scruffy now too. IMO JC bateau stripes have been great. The "fade out sailor" is nice heavy cotton like the "perfect-fit" tees. I love the "vintage cotton" v-necks. The fabric is very similar to my pricey RPM tees from Japan. I haven't ever purchased a ruffle or a sparkle so maybe those are the cheesy ones?
ReplyDeleteI would like to see more of the graphic tees, the splash paint ones there are now are not that nice especially when you see a whole wall of them on markdown. I think all the graphic tees from the spring and last roll out are gone.
ReplyDeletealso brighter colors for summer please.
I got the impression tank and skirt will see how they look, and the bright coral lynx sweater.
Cass, your comments cracked me up. :)
ReplyDeleteHi! I've been reading your blog for a month now and just love it, thank you so much for keeping us up-to-date. This is also the first time I have ever commented on a blog, yikes! So I have purchased 2 orders with this last promo and may make another. I have just discovered the pencil skirts and the perfect shirts and am now addicted to them, they make me look so much thinner than I really am. Thinking about the Bridget dress but being a size 8 now (size 6 on 'thin' days), I fear I may not have the figure for it =(
ReplyDeleteTwiga, Jcrewphd and others who interetsed;
ReplyDeleteSuzy of Bichonluvr's closet has posted IRL pics of Nadja awhile back. Looks liek it's a great jacket:
http://bichonluvrscloset.blogspot.com/2010/03/nadja-irl-per-requests.html
I have placed 3! orders in the past 3 days, lol! I have a feel most will be going back. I have re-ordered Carlyle necklace whcih I originally got in store w/out discount. This piece is spectacular, highly recommend.
Slastena,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the link. I have not placed any orders with this promo and thought about the bomber jacket. But seeing the IRL pictures I know it is not for me. Don't like the knit cuffs. So saved me a order/return!
Slastena: Thanks for the link... I remember that post but couldn't find it again today. I'm still debating about that jacket due to the sleeves and also the length. It looks really short on the model photo.
ReplyDeleteCarlyle necklace looks really pretty - did you get the clear crystal color? I've already placed two orders during this promo and I'm shopped out...
Has anyone seen or tried on the Sea Urchin Bib necklace? Thanks!
jcrewphd: I actually bought the sea urchin necklace in NYC, even though they still had it listed at full price. They honored the promo price and then gave me an educator discount on top, so I found it to be a pretty good price.
ReplyDeleteI would say this is definitely not for those of you who shy away from statement necklaces. It is bigger than you would think and the bib hangs low (although I am thinking there would be a way to adjust it but haven't tried it yet). I love the color of the gold, I love the bits and bobbles in the bib and know that I will be able to find multiple occasions to wear it.
I haven't worn it, but maybe I will soon...hmmm... :) Hope that helps.
Two more hours left for the sale. If you want to see irl pics & reviews, you can check out my 'guide' in this post. :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you Dina!
ReplyDeletejcrewphd - i ordered the sea urchin and returned it. The peachy parts were plastic and it was a large volume necklace on my frame if that makes any sense -- lots of pouf (vs. say the carrington collar or other statement necklaces). I think it would work well on someone less scrawny than moi though! HTH!
ReplyDeleteI went to my local store tonight, and if the sale section was big last week - then it's exploded now. 1/4 of the entire store was marked down. The SA said new arrivals will be in Monday, so they were clearing out and making room. There were lots and lots of items on sale in store that are not online. The silk pocket linen cardi in every color was $59.99, the dip-dyed linen sweaters were on sale, the new sequin falls cardi in fawn that came out with the last rollout, all of the colors of the fringe tunics, the paillette cardigan that was $118 is now $69.99. Tons of stuff. Unfortunately, there wasn't an additional percent off in store.
ReplyDeletejcrewphd,
ReplyDeleteYes, I thought the length looked really cropped on the model for that jacket as well. That was my first I am not sure and then the sleeves bothered me. I decided to buy/try the lollip instead. What the heck...looks unique and I like orange and a pop of color instead of the neutrals.
@ jcbellemarie: thanks for your feedback. I was worried about the plastic part of the necklace. If I'm paying that much for something I don't want plastic parts showing...
ReplyDelete@ Summer: I ended up not ordering anything after my order in the morning. Hopefully the Lollipop and both Nadja stick around for next round of % off. :-)
jcrewphd,
ReplyDeleteYes, I hope they stick around for you too.
I had not ordered anything at all with this new % off promo and had not planned to until the update on Wed. I thought I would try the lollipop and a couple of other items since it was not final sale.
Slightly OT but just found the Ginny dress in mink at my B&M for $79.99, so if you missed out on the 20% online promo you can still get it at the discounted price. Soooo frustrating when things are priced differently online and in store but it does get me into the store to check!
ReplyDeleteOh so disappointed. I was hopeful 'til the very end.
ReplyDeleteChris,
ReplyDeleteWhat may I ask were you disappointed in?
Summer, disappointed because this was one of the first times I bought absolutely nothing! Which by the way was great on my pocketbook, but I just didn't see anything I loved. And I waited until the end and checked when they restocked, but still nothing for me.
