Love It or Leave It: Falling-Petals Jacket

Regular: $240.00

There is definitely something pretty about the "falling rose petals" which are "styled in a beautiful silk shantung and boasts frayed silk chiffon trim carefully applied by a single tack to a picot-finished organza ribbon". The rose petals are just the right touch of feminine grace on the standard jacket.

This seems like a great jacket that can dress up anything- from a dress to a Summer wedding to a pair of khakis or jeans to a late night bite with friends.

With that said, I definitely have some reservations about the jacket itself. (1) With its straight shape fit that hits at hip, I am not sure how flattering it will look. Even the stylists at J.Crew decided to belt the jacket on the model for their catalog image above. (2) Although the "Buff" shade is beautiful, would this same shade wash some of us out? I would love to see this jacket being offered in some other colors as well. (3) Lastly, I am surprised that this J.Crew Collection jacket is unlined! For $240, is lining too much to expect? ;)

What are your thoughts on the Falling-Petals Jacket? Do you "love it" or would you "leave it"? Have seen it at a store? If so, please share with us your review. :)

Quick Poll: Do you like the Falling-Petals Jacket?

  1. LOVE IT!
Maybe the reason for the unlined is to not make the jacket to puff..

  2. The fact that it is unlined is an absolute deal-breaker for me. For that price, what were they thinking?

  3. Leave it. I do believe this item will only look good on someone shaped like the model, lean and straight.

  4. Definitely should be lined. On the side view you can see the model's t-shirt line on the sleeve near the cuff. Way to sheer for me, although I couldn't get past the short boxiness in the first place. And the falling petals would likely look best with the jacket hanging open, which is a good thing because it has no buttons.

Try to guess how I voted in the poll. :P

  5. It's not that there's no lining, it just got pulled out and shredded by the stylist's cat. Since the photoshoot was that day, the stylist went with it and attached the mangled fabric onto the lapels! jk

It's a pretty color and looks nice enough on the model, but it just looks so teeny and shrunken. Pass for me.

  6. I think it's so pretty, but agree with everyone's concerns. Has anyone actually tried it on?????

  7. I don't like the petals with the standard notched lapel--as Cheesy notes it makes the petals look like a shredded afterthought. IMO this would work better on a V-neck jacket without lapels.

Without a lining, the fabric will probably cling to whatever is worn under it, making it bunchy, yuck.

(But I loved cascading flowers Astrid . . . still regret not grabbing it and am hoping for EUC on ebay.)

  8. When I first saw this jacket, I thought it was gorgeous but after seeing it in person (at NYC Soho store) it definately is a no-go for me. Way too thin and fragile plus it's not lined so you can see right through.

  9. At first, i loved it. Then i realized it wasn't lined and became concerned. After i saw how fragile the chiffon looked, i thought it would fray, and the jacket became a no-go. I might reconsider it if drastically reduced.
