Also, "thanks!" to AnneG who shared with us the image (click the image or here to view larger) of the Look Book cover with the note that was sent to several J.Crew card members in the mail. The note reads: "We wanted you, our J.Crew Credit Cardmembers, to be the first to get a sneak peek of our FALL COLLECTION and pre-order your favorites. Call your personal shopper to get started. Don't have one? Call 800 261 7422 or email erica@jcrew.com to be set up with your style expert." I think it was a nice touch to send card members the Look Book. :)
P.S. I have to say that I really appreciate everyone's willingness to share and contribute- you all are the best!
P.S.S. With all these new catalogs, who else thinks the website will be updated with new arrivals soon? :)
Did you get a copy of the new Look Book? What are your thoughts on the items slated for the upcoming Fall season? Do you think it's too early or the right time, to be thinking about the Fall season? ;)
Thanks for sharing these photos Naomi and Alexis. OMG the campo bag is huge. Scratch that one off my list.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to call this look Flapster. :D
ReplyDeleteI'm happy b/c the hat in look 2 looks identical to the JC hat I got several years ago that I think I lost when moving last year (can't find it anywhere). Mine was green, but I'll gladly replace it with orange.
Also hoping those oxford lace ups (look 13) are women sized-- another once-loved JC relic I no longer have in my possession.
Thanks Naomi and Alexis. I love the looks that are coming out! Any idea when they might hit the website? This makes me excited for fall :-) Hopefully some of the item # will come out so we can pre-order.
ReplyDeleteafter seeing that i am definitely going to pass on summer stuff and wait for fall. so much more interesting! :)
ReplyDeleteHm. Interesting. I like the purples, and I am definitely loving the lacey tiered camisole here. I can't wait to see it in person!
ReplyDeleteLooks like they finally have leggings.
ReplyDeleteI know it's early for fall, but I love these looks! Has anyone preordered before? I'm sincerely considering it on a number of pieces, but am curious how the process works. Especially shipping charges. If I want to preorder a couple of things, are they going to charge me shipping on each one?
ReplyDeleteTIA!
such eye candy! thank you scanning/posting! :)
ReplyDeleteOooh, LOVE the fresh new looks. I may just pass on all the summer merchandise & wait for fall to arrive! Nobody styles it better than the Crew, though in all honesty, I can't wear all those pieces layered as they show it, with clashing colors and all. Looks nice on paper, a bit silly IRL, at least for my lifestyle.
ReplyDeleteI do like the oranges & purples (though not together). My fave look so far is the ruffled cami paired with the print skirt:
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3372/3637264289_4bd761b158.jpg?v=0
Pass on feathered anything. Thanks for sharing, Alexis & Naomi, for taking the time to photograph & upload all this for us.
Accessory lust taking over brain. Purple bag and shoes with stripey tights combo... HATE SUMMER. Want cold. Want purple pretties. Want nonfrizzy hair. And maybe a 3/4 or 1/2 size Campo.
ReplyDeleteThis is completely OT, so I apologize.
ReplyDeleteBut did any of you get pleating on victoria camis ruined by drycleaners? I got my drycleaned the other day. After I picked it up I noticed that the pleats down the front on the side where there buttons are all messed up and the pleats near the color don't stand up any more. I brought the shirt back to the drycleaners and they said they would TRY to fix it. Two days later I went back just to find that this *self-moderated* people managed to completely ruin the pleats. They told me that they tried steaming it and the pleats just came undone. So now I think that any intelligent person would figure thsi out and use actual iron and not steamer since steamer does not help with crisp pleats. They said they would try again. *sign*
Did anyone have same issue? I am just perplexed and I wonder if the shirt can actually be drycleaned successfully.
Thanks, ladies!
Love the belted parka...love the knit tights and textured leggings...love the colour palette...love the slouchy suede (?) booties...
ReplyDeleteNot too sure about the shorts-over-stockings trend...only models can get away with socks-and-pumps...
VERY nice overall! Thanks so much for sharing the images.
Kater,
ReplyDeleteI have preordered in the past but now don't anymore. I found that more than half the things I would pre-order from the Lookbook would either not be made or the style would be changed and they weren't as nice. As a result I found it was better just to have my PS let me know the first day the new things are available, then order, that way there wasn't the hassle of all sorts of pre-order charges on my card that then were cancelled or I wanted to return - when you preorder they charge you the total price ahead of time...
OH MY! Forget summer - I need to start saving for some fall lovlies! Lavender coat, fuzzy clutch, ballet flats w/big flower, military jacket w/brass buttons...those bags!
ReplyDeleteYikes!
Damn you crew - I thought I was set after all the turkey & hohoho'ing last year!
Yikes Sydneygirl! Thanks for the tip! So they charge you the total price now (as in when you order) and then it doesn't get shipped for a couple of months?
ReplyDeleteI'm so excited for these items, but maybe I should just wait!
Thanks so much for the post!!
ReplyDeleteLook 02 reminds me of Devo. (Probaby due to the size of the photo.) :)
On a more serious note, I love the styling, how they incorporated tights w/shorts, and short boots w/skirts. I find I enjoyed the styling and didn't really go ga-ga over any particular item.
On the East Coast we could sport some of those fall leggings this week...chilly!
Ooooh, thanks, Naomi and Alexis, for sharing this with us! So many items to look forward to! I mean, other than the non-frizzy hair. :p
ReplyDeleteElena, I'm so sorry to hear about your Victoria. I'd write J.Crew and ultimately ask...hmm...I'll probably do that after I post this comment. Lord knows how many of us are wondering the same thing - "How in THE hell are we supposed to get our Victorias clean?!?!"
And are those oxfords I see? For us ladies?? Eeee...
Hello! Please forgive the OT post here. Alexis, what type of handbag did you take to Paris? I'm going to Italy in Sept, and I can't decide what to take - something roomy but not too big, something that pickpockets can't get into, etc. Right now, I'm thinking of a Longchamp tote.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
I am looking forward to the fall! Actually, I could wear those clothes right now... the weather is so unusually cold around here!
ReplyDeleteLove all the crazy styling! I think Jenna and her team could take a burlap sack and make it look appealing (shiny belt, knee-highs, tights...)
ReplyDeleteThat large grey bag is calling my name!!!
ReplyDelete@Kater - No, you do not get charged for your pre-orders now. You get charged when they ship, just like any other order. As for the shipping charges, pre-orders ship for free.
ReplyDeleteBasically what happens is you get put on a waitlist, and as soon as the items are available for purchase, your order automatically gets placed, and then your card is charged. You don't get the items before or faster than anyone who orders them without a pre-order though.
I have had very, very good experiences with pre-orders.
i love that trench!
ReplyDeleteMy longstanding addiction to shorts w/ tights is probably as bad as lindsay lohan's addiction to leggings as pants... :D
ReplyDeleteI've only recently started to try out thigh highs, though. My main concern was that I'll be pulling them up constantly, but so far with the pair I have, it hasn't been a problem.
Off topic: The sale section updated online. :)
ReplyDeleteI was certain the new arrivals would show up today, as many items are already in stores and Thursdays seem to be the day the last few times.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Naomi and Alexis for posting the images of the fall lookbook. That is a lot of motivation to keep my shopping ban going and wait to splurge on fall pretties :)
I LOVE the flats and peep toes with the flowers on the toe!
P.S. I stopped in at the new Madewell store in KOP this weekend. I was not impressed. It was really small and all they really had were skinny jeans and boyfriend jeans all over the place. I'd rather walk across the way to the Crew ;)
ReplyDeleteIf anyone is interested, I called about the lace cami on page 10. It's the Chantilly Lace Camisole Item# 17221. It will be available in August in sizes 0-8. But it's $795, a little too rich for my blood.
ReplyDeleteNothing I'm frothing at the mouth about, other than perhaps the tiered camis--I especially like the orange one on the last page. My fall purchases are usually suiting and sweaters, so my big question for fall is whether the cashmere will be better this year.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I like to think that I don't choose to buy or not based on the way that the model looks, since my face and figure will be nothing like hers, lol, but I'm tired of this particular model and would like to see some variety, including "older" models. In the past, J.Crew has done a pretty good job of choosing models who can project warmth, intelligence, and individuality--the 07 Paris classic being a great example. In some of the recent stuff (with obvious exceptions of Lauren Hutton and Liya Kebede) they seem to be going for the vapid, ultra-skinny, model-y types.
P.S. Kater, I've had both good and bad luck on pre-orders. I have never received free shipping on a pre-order.
$795?!? I guess once you're done with it, you can use it as an heirloom tablecloth or a doily.
ReplyDeleteNot only $795, but what is up with the small size range (0-8)? I noticed this also with some of the items in the July catalog that only go up to size 10 or 12. The same was true for items last fall.
ReplyDeleteIt saddens me that the things I usually like the best (belle sketchbook skirt, for example) stop at a smaller size.
Hi all,
ReplyDeleteMany thanks to Naomi, AnneG &Alexis for the preview!
The photos are great & really help w. visualizing new ways to update my closet. Like many JCAs, I seem to buy a lot of my work clothes in the fall season. This will be a big help in planning what items i should keep or replace between now & then. Also, like Hexicon, I buy a lot of suiting & sweaters in the fall. I really hope they've updated the cashmere. Any news on the ones Liz sent back in the Happy Ending post?
Anywho, a sneak peek like this one will definitely inspire me to curb my summer spending & save up for fall.... Hmmm, my birthday is in Oct, & there's always Christmas. I wonder... is it too soon to start hinting for JCrew giftcards?
Thanks again for the treat,
Heather:D
P.S. Alexis, I also noticed that many sale items popped back today. I thought it was because the secret code expired yesterday. Maybe I'm being too cynical :}
Oh, I LOVE the oranges and blues! This makes me so happy after a disappointing spring and summer. I mean, the clothes even look happier (and so much less droopy and sad than many styles out right now).
ReplyDeleteI am a cardholder and I didn't receive a lookbook. :( Anybody want to send one my way (email or snailmail)?
ReplyDeleteEveryone: Thanks for your great takes on the latest catalog! :)
ReplyDeletehimmiefan: Congrats on going to Paris!!! As for purse, the Longchamp tote is very popular- lots of Europeans (especially the British) use the bag- you wouldn't go wrong.
I wanted to take the Jamie with me to Paris, but I knew it was going to rain and didn't want to ruin it. So instead I went with another J.Crew bag from a few years ago (unfortunately I don't remember the name and can't find an image online). Its canvas, with leather trimmings and strap, a main zipper compartment, with two small front pockets. Its quite large 14x12x5 inches. It was great because I could carry my guide book, umbrella, Frenchie Slicker, and scarf around.
P.S. I would highly recommend taking a neutral Pashmina-esque scarf. It definitely gets a lot of use. :)
P.S.S. Have a fun and safe trip!!! :)
FYI on the pre-order (my PS calls it presell) - I have done several and the shipping is ALWAYS free on a presell! One perk :)
ReplyDeleteAlso - I received a look book yesterday. It is so beautiful to look at - I have gone through it several times savoring the many wonderful details... but I have to say... wearing many of these things IRL? Not so much - at least for my lifestyle (three young boys) - but I guess that's what look books are for - the edge of the spectrum. it is delicious! YUMMY!
ReplyDeleteThanks Alexis!!
ReplyDeleteMarketeer - J.Crew did leggings a few years ago, when they were first popular. But it does look like the first time I've seen them styled as pants!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for all the work girls, I haven't gotten a look book yet but I am on West Coast, hoping still to get one.
Besides the "fur" items, I'm loving lots of the looks. They sure know how to style!
OMG - that lace top is my favorite piece and it costs $795?!?!?! Are they kidding????? And it doesn't even come in my size.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sad...
Drewablank, did I understand correctly that you also have a victoria cami but haven't gotten it drycleaned yet?
ReplyDeleteSo nobody has an issue with pleats being ruined? Is it just me??? I know a lot of gals here bought those. How do you care for them?
i'm a card member and haven't received mine yet. : ( i hope i get one! looks great. the flats w/ flowers are so cute!
ReplyDeleteElena: I need to check my victoria cami. I don't believe the dry cleaner ruined it, but I will check just in case. :) I ADORE my dry cleaners, and they seem to want my repeat business, so I guess either I am very lucky or they really just do a very good job.
ReplyDeleteHowever, if mine looks like yours sounds, I will be saddened. Hopefully you can repair yours...those camis look best full of life, so to speak.
Oh, and can I just say...those looks are BEAUTIFUL. Esp. love the leggings with the short double-breasted jacket and the orange tiered blouse on the last page. Wow. I may have to try this pre-order thing...
I love the gray bag as well. I really hope some of those items come in colors other than bright orange though.
ReplyDeleteIf that lace top is $795 I bet the lace skirt costs ~$1,000.
Some of the items, i.e. the cinched waist cropped tweed pants, look cool for a fashion editorial but who would wear them IRL?
Drewablank - I'm with tastymoog on the hoped for return of the oxford lace ups. For those unfamiliar, those were a Jcrew basics roughly 15 years ago when I was in college. Plain, fashionably ugly black lace-ups oxford shoes with 1.5 inch heel. They looked like men's shoes but worn with the right stockings, gave off a retro-school marm look.
ReplyDeleteElena: I've been using Dryel to clean my Victorias so far. But I'd want to get them professionally drycleaned sometime down the road. I have emailed J.Crew; let's wait and see what they say. ;)
ReplyDeletemediocrudo: I used to have a pair of Kickers black oxfords when I was in highschool, and I wore them until the sole came off. :p I'd be stoked if those were ladies-sized! :)
mediocrudo, drewablank,
ReplyDeleteI got my JC oxfords sometime in high school, 10 or so years ago. They were black/dark brown, saddle shoe style. I got rid of them about 4 years ago during a move/downsize... I regret it! Didn't wear them much, so it seem justified at the time.
The Holiday 2008 (Iceland) catalog featured a female model wearing oxfords with skinny/pegged jeans, blazers and bright socks. She was wearing men's shoes, though.
furry vest!!! :)
ReplyDeletekater: i feel exactly the same way about the lace top. shocked that it's $795 and super disappointed that it only goes to an 8. :( i will MAYBE be able to do a 10. i am dieting and have been a 10 before... but never, ever an 8. so i'm SOL.
ReplyDeleteElena- I have had mine drycleaned, and the front pleats are still very crisp. The collar pleats are no longer sharp, but they have more of an organic wave which I still quite like. I chose to just embrace it rather than be upset.
ReplyDeleteI used to work at a drycleaners, so my tip for items like this would be for you to ask to have the item spot cleaned and hand finished. That way, it wont go in the big machine and on the steam dryer with all the other silky items.
All I can say is, AAAAAAAAAHHHHHH. That was nice to look at...if the last few seasons were melba toast, this fall seems more like chili lime tortilla chips. I like many of the things--I love the brown low-heeled oxfords, the skirts made from the shiny/fuzzy/lacy fabrics, and the black and white tweed coat. While the collection still doesn't have the pizazz of a few years ago, it seems to be much more inspired than recent ones. Maybe they'll get some of my money come Fall!
ReplyDeletere: Lace Cami - I'm sure Gigi will find a knockoff of this available at a much friendlier price point and larger size range so don't be too disappointed about the $795 version at J.Crew.
ReplyDeleteNo pressure Gigi...
Elena: I looked at my Victoria cami, and with the exception of the very back part of the collar, the rest of the collar is in awesome shape. I would even say it looks better than when I first received it because it doesn't have the creases from the way J. Crew packages its items.
ReplyDeleteI feel for you...I cannot stand it when I know an item is supposed to be one way and because of a flaw in the item itself or a bad wash/dry-clean job, the item looks and feels off.
If you live in the DC area, I definitely can give you the info for my dry-cleaners...
I just called cs and got some info on some other pieces:
ReplyDeleteThe jacket that is shown with the way overpriced but beautiful lace cami is called the school boy blazer, item #17072. It will sell for $178, comes in navy and heather carbon (or something "gray" like that :),, runs from 0-12 and "debuts" in August.
The double-breasted pink coat on p. 29 will come from 0-14 and will cost $298. I didn't get an item name or number but the SA listed a ton of colors on that one (including cobalt for all you blue lovers out there), but didn't know for sure which one was shown in the picture - her guess was "dusty blossom" but she advised me not to preorder until they know for sure. Hopefully it won't be one of those cases where the actual color doesn't get made because I love the candy pink!
As for the coat on page 14 with the ruffle down the front - they didn't have much info on it because it doesn't come out until november. But it only comes in three colors - stone (which is shown - I was hoping it was going to be a lavender color!), black, and "ember" and the SA wasn't sure what that exactly would be. I wish there were going to be more colors on this one because it's beautiful! oh well!
sorry for the long post, but I thought I would share the info I got!
OT - Have any of the men tried the Utility jacket that's been out for a few months? I bought one for my husband but the M fits like a small and I'm wondering if it has the wrong tag or if everyone is sizing up.
ReplyDeleteTIA
I just found out from J.Crew about a top in the fall look book. It's the silver sequin short sleeve top. It's called the Sequin Art Deco top, it's $495.00 and is available in sizes 0-8. I am a size 10-so that leaves me out! I am really upset that the fall collection clothes are only coming in the smaller sizes-I don't think size 10 or 12 are plus sizes! So please, if you are a size 10 or 12, call or email J.Crew to complain! Thanks!!
ReplyDeleteHi Kater,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the info. I was most esp please to learn about the schoolboy jacket. I'm also pre-stalking the grey hacking jacket w. black piping.
Oh, who am I kidding? I'm in luuuv w most of the jackets & some of the coats already! Of course the sad irony is that I live in CA now & there's not a lot of coat weather on the horizon. I can hear it now "But sweetie, a trip to London/Paris/Venice in Oct. would be perfect for my coats." :}
Thanks for the info., Back to my reg scheduled summer day dreams,
Heather:D
Hi again,
ReplyDeleteSorry for the many posts today... Also sorry for an OT topic. However, I thought I should mention a jcrew ref in an NYT article.
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/06/17/fashion/18codes.html?em
Apparently, "all- American preppy style has come back for another goround. There is madras everything, button-downs everywhere." Of course this comes as no surprise to the stylish folks on this site. Still, it's nice to see that others agree that the look has merit.
Hope all your finds are fab,
H:D
OT, but does anyone in Tucson want one of the discount cards I received? It's the refer a friend thing, the card gets you 20% off a $125 appointment purchase. The idea is that you get 3 friends to do it and then you get a discount. I don't have anyone to give them to so I won't get the discount but maybe someone else would like one! Mrsnonia@aol.com
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing this! I adore J.Crew's fall & winter items.
ReplyDeleteCan JCrew stop with the ruffles please! I do like that grey printed blouse though.
ReplyDeleteRe: size ranges, soon they will only be doing 0-6. They used to have many items go up to 16, and now only the most basic khakis etc do. Then they at least had all styles in a 14, until in the fall they had several styles only going to a 12. Now down to only 10s and 8s. I can understand that certain super pricey items are not going to be mass market, but it's getting a little ridiculous and offensive. I am tall and fit but have hips and a chest so I need a size 14. Apparently JC only wants business from ladies with bodies like their models?
ReplyDeleteCass, if that's true, then that is really ugly of them. Size-ism rears its nasty head again. On the other hand, maybe they have just decided to ignore American sizing altogether and do JC size, which for a couple seasons seems to be more fabric bang for the size buck. 8 is the new 14? Hmm.
ReplyDeleteCaptainCrew said "I'm sure Gigi will find a knockoff of this..."
ReplyDeleteI'll be on it! Forever 21 here I come! They've already had the rhinestone statement necklaces in the past. A little different, but the same flavor.
I'm excited for fall. I hope I'm brave enough for tights & shorts. Thanks for sharing the photos, Naomi!
I didn't get a Look Book, so it's nice of Naomi and Alexis to share! I want to see some boyish blazers and hacking jackets. It's really my style and I haven't seen much like them lately. Did I see a purple bag in that slideshow? Yes, please! I don't think it's too early to be thinking of fall, but I wish I'd had enough warm weather to wear all my summer pieces at least once. (She says sighing at her new unworn peony swim top)
ReplyDeleteIf anyone has noticed, I haven't been commenting since the Anonymous comments were removed. But I couldn't keep quiet any longer. Into the fray!
Thanks so much for sharing, Naomi & Alexis!! No idea if I got one as I am away and not sure I want to ask hubby to check the mail. :) I am loving the orange tiered top and some of the colors here. I am very curious about the bright blue skirt, too.
ReplyDeleteCheesyGoodness,
ReplyDeleteYes my PS has even told me that she noticed that fewer and fewer styles are coming in sz 14. Luckily some of their stuff runs big, so I can take some of the boxy jackets in a 12, but in the small-running pencil skirts and sheath dresses I am completely out of luck. Occasionally I think of commissioning my Parsons-grad friend to knock off some of the styles for me in my size!
I agree with CheesyGoodness. Some of the clothes lately seem to have the much softer fit/vanity sizing that expands the range so the size numbers are out the window. For those lamenting the limited sizes, an 8 could possibly fit a 10/12, who knows? I've also read a lot of posts where the smallest-sized clothes are too large or ill-proportioned for some JCAs so that's another question about the size range.
ReplyDeleteNot thrilled with the release, overall. Some interest but I have been done with the ruffles and fluffiness for a while, lacy ruffles included. That's OK though, I don't need to buy what doesn't work.
Thanks for sharing and creating some great buzz, Alexis, Naomi, Gigi and all. Love this community.
The paisley dress and tweed coat on page 34 please. Sweet!
ReplyDeletei agree with the sizing complaint -- i'm a size 2-4 and my wife is a 12-14 in jackets/shirts and 10 in pants. i'm glad i was able to get her wedding dress from jcrew last year in a size 12 (and then have the waist/hips altered to fit her).
ReplyDeletetastymog - i recently got a really lovely pair of oxford laceups from fluevog - the laureate tennyson's -- pricey but adorable and comfortable
http://www.fluevog.com/code/?w[0]=search%3Atennyson&pp=1&view=detail&p=1&colourID=2465
Elena - I am sorry to hear that. However, you are not alone. I have the exact same problem as you. I sent my Victoria ruffle shirt for a dry clean and it came back with all the pleats flattened out. I was speechless when I saw the shirt. :-(
ReplyDeleteMy dry-cleaner kept telling me that it's manufacturer defect and that they would not be responsible. Even worse, one of the staff told me that, when I dropped it off, I should have told them that I want the pleats to stay. I couldn't believe my ears when she said that.
Anyway, my friend also suggested me e-mail J.Crew and ask.
Lily
Just talked to a SA at our local store and she said they will be getting small shipments in for the next few weeks. And...drum roll...an "extremely large" shipment will be coming in mid-July. I'm assuming that means the cute catalog stuff?? Can't wait to find out! I'm wondering if the larger stores will be getting them in sooner, though.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI don't see much that thrills me. Black leggings as pants? That's been done since 2006, at least, and it is a look that does not flatter most of us! I prefer to wear actual pants. Under skirts, maybe, but it seems odd that JCrew is jumping on the leggings bandwagon now.
all who posted about the victoria cami - i'm so sorry to hear about the dry cleaning travails with this top. i lusted over the top, but now i'm glad i didn't go there. . . .
ReplyDeleteIt seems JC sent the Lookbook to non-cardmembers too... me! I couldn't believe my eyes, but I do a lot of online shopping so...
ReplyDeleteI want the Hydrangea colored bag. Too bad about the price of the lace top, I think it's gorgeous. This fall line-up looks to be very promising. =)
