J.Crew News: What's Happening Today? {Monday Edition}

As mentioned in an earlier post (refer here), I am on vacation! Unfortunately, I won't be able to keep up with all the latest J.Crew news, promos, and the like.

So this post is the "catch all" for J.Crew Aficionadas and Aficionados to share with one another the "current happenings" for today. Feel free to post your comments here- from current J.Crew promotions, sales, emails, and even questions on products (regarding fit & size), and the like. :)

P.S. There will be a daily "J.Crew News: What's Happening Today?" for the rest of the week- in order to keep the most current news on the most current post. :)

What comments do you want to share or ask of other Aficionadas and Aficionados? What is currently happening (in terms of promos, sales, emails, products, and the like)?

  2. Has anyone tried the studded gladiator sandals and can comment on the fit?

    Thanks!

  3. I believe the site has already updated at least sometime in the night b/c I am seeing a couple items that were not there yesterday that are now available.

I am not going to get anything with this extra 20 promo. If it was 30 I would for sure but 20 just doesn't do it for me anymore!
esp. with the high shipping costs...others, enjoy! Hope you find what you have been wishing for. I still have tags on a few new summer things I need to wear first!

New arrivals will be in stores too soon:)

  4. See, why do I never learn? I ordered some stuff on Friday, panicking that I'd be too late for the free shipping code that ended on Saturday. And now here's the 20% off sale items code. DAMN! Oh well, one day I'll get it right :)

  6. Cliquot,
Hey, but if you have to return at least you are not out the shipping costs...I prefer free shipping if returns happen!

  7. I have a question for you all - I bought a J Crew skirt back in February and it's just way too long. Will they hem it for me at J Crew, or is that offer only good for suiting skirts? This is the patterned giraffe one.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Pamela: As long as the skirt was bought full price and was bought using your J.Crew credit card, they will hem it for you for free. (This info according to my personal shopper.) However, I don't know if this rule applies if you are willing to pay for the hemming. HTH! :)

  9. I want to know where you got that pic alexis! lol love the coat and pants!

    ReplyDelete
  10. Pamela: To follow up on what Drewablank said...when I had some pants to hem earlier this year, I was told that as long as the item came from J. Crew, they would be able to take care of the alterations. I did pay for the hemming, as the items had been purchased on sale and I wasn't a J. Crew cardholder, but the $12 they charged per pair was less than the $15 my tailor quoted me over the phone -- and quicker to boot. HTH!

  11. Am seriously considering the Monterey skirt in burnt orange. Does anyone have any experience with the skirt or the color? I have so much khaki for summer I'd like something different but am wondering what colors will work. Also, is the skirt TTS? Am planning on heading to my B&M Friday and am torn between waiting to see if they have any or using the 20% off.

    Thanks

  12. Anyone else notice Ann Curry wearing the Poplin Cargo Jacket (14962) during her Inside Iran special (on last night)? :)

  13. Hello! I have a 2-part Poll:
    1. Have you had problems machine washing your premium-stretch bistro pants?

    2. Do you machine wash or dry clean them?

I am trying to decide whether to machine wash them before getting them ahead and would LOVE some advice. Thanks!!

  14. I have a question about the J. Crew guys selection and am hoping someone can give me a recommendation. I'm shopping for clothes for my boyfriend's birthday and am looking for slimmer cut dress shirts. He's very thin and thinks the regular cut is too "billowy." I'd love to get him to try some J. Crew, but I'm not sure what styles would work best. Any suggestions?

  15. Crewcrazy- Gigi did a review of this skirt on her blog- Gigi's Gone Shopping- HTH

  16. So glad to have the extra 20 off. I finally ordered the Dressy jersey strapless dress & a pair of saturday pants that had been sitting in my cart for over a week.

  17. crewcrazy,
the burnt orange in the monterey skirt is more of brick color. the skirt also runs a little big. i would size down. hope that helps!

  18. Got an email from J.Crew today saying to use EXTRA20 for an extra 20% off sale items until June 10th. See link for details:

  19. butterflyblue - There are some tailored fit dress shirts in the J Crew men's section. I thought the super secret men's shirt has a regular fit. Not slim or too billowy. Also, Banana Republic makes slim fit shirts. You might try there.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Anyone see the new arrivals in stores yet? Please report back if you have the scoop!

    ReplyDelete
  21. butterflyblue all I wear are the tailored shirts from J.Crew. They are by far the best shirt! I have compared them to so many other brands, both cheaper and more expensive. You'll never find one with a better fit or quality. I'm of average build and find it fits great, sleeve length, neck and shoulders.

If he's really thin you might consider a Zara shirt, but the quality is poor. Banana makes a decent one, but the J.Crew ones are better quality in my experience.

The oxford cloth ones are heavier than the regular ones. The lightweight ones wrinkle much easier and so I buy the standard tailoered fit. I think I have over twenty and that's all I buy or wear.

  22. crewcrazy - I bought the monterey skirt in my regular JC size and it works. I did not try it on in a size down b/c it was the only one in the store at the time (catalog return). I will wear mine lower on the waist, since it's shorter. I haven't seen the burnt orange, so I can't comment on the color, but I love the skirt. It's perfect for hot, humid climates! HTH

  23. Just wanted to share here because I was very excited to buy these this morning with the 20% off:

The Greer pleated satin sandals (item 14714) which I thought nothing of from the online pic were absolutely stunning in person at the Madison Ave collection store this weekend! They still had them marked full price so I didn't even bother trying them on, however when I got home and saw that they were $130 online (down from $198) I could not wait to order them! With the promo, the price is now $104. Still by no means free, but believe me when I say these are gorgeous in person. I will be pairing these with all my new J.Crew summer skirts!

  24. Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on the soft tee ruffle top. Would you recommend sizing down, does it fit similarly to the tissue rolling ruffles tank? i think it's super cute but wonder how it will look with my larger chest...

Also any recommendations for sizing on the saturday pants? I'm wanting some in white so don't want them too tight, but too loose would look bad too. Has everyone gone tts on these? Thanks!

  25. Did anyone else receive a follow-up call from J Crew to see if the package they shipped out arrived oka? and for verification of shipping address?

I did, it was so strange, I wonder if there was a shipping screw up again around the end of May for some unlucky customer.

  26. Kendra,

I just washed my bistro pants in stone. It looks like they shrunk a little. I washed them and hung them dry.. I tugged on them a little to get wrinkles out, but it didn't work. They are a wrinkled mess and while I will attempt to iron them, I would just go ahead and get them dry cleaned if I was you. They turned out pretty badly!

  27. Coco,

The soft tee ruffle top is HUGE! Definitely size down. I ordered an XS, and have to take it back... :(

    ReplyDelete
  28. kendra - I have washed my bistro pants and they turned out just fine. Cold water and gentle setting, no dryer. I have the khaki and black, as well as the superfine cotton in navy. No problems for me at all. If they are wrinkled I put them in the dryer on the steam setting and hang them up.

  29. coco, I am normally a medium to large to x-large in JC's knit tops. I have broad shoulders and a 36C chest, so depending on how narrow and tight the knit top is made depends on my size. I bought the soft tee ruffle top in an xsmall and it's perfect. So, if you're tiny, then it will be big on you IMO. I wasn't sure how it would work with my chest, but it doesn't emphasize instead the ruffles seem to minimize. HTH

    ReplyDelete
  30. Leslie & Math Teacher, thanks that does help! I normally take a medium or large in jcrew knits. I took a medium in the rolling ruffles tank, it is still a little big but I think it looks better that way than fitted. so would you suggest the same size as the rolling ruffles or size down from that even?

    Thanks!!

  31. I went to the Cherry Hill store today.

New merchandise was in. It was all very summery. Lots of cute shorts.

FYI - the sale section did not have an extra 20 percent off. Guess the promo is only good for online, not B/M.

    ReplyDelete
  32. it really stinks they no longer do the extra sale in store, as well. Will they ever go back to that???? Extra 20 does not really make a difference online, with the shipping costs and all!

  33. Crewcrazy & Lauren

I just purchased the Monterey skirt today in the Ikat print and it is so awesome. I bought a size down since they looked so big IRL. It fits perfectly at my waist, but that is where I like skirts to sit on me, so it was fine. You could def get your reg size and wear down lower on your hips though. The length is also not too short for me (mom of 3).

The Bistro Orange is really nice IRL. You can use it as a brown neutral, so pretty much anything will go with it depending on how you like to mix up your colors. I actually picked up that color in a favorite tank to wear with the afore-mentioned Ikat skirt (which is a pinkish-peachy-tan)!

  34. xoxo the superfine cotton bistro pants, jacket and dress are all sold out online. I love the pieces and wanted to pick up another pair of the pants, I've been wearing the pair I have a lot. Much more comfortable than the other bistro pants IMHO and they actually can pass for suiting.

If anyone sees the superfine cotton bistro pants at their local B&M, please post. I'm sure they are still FP but worth every penny.

    TIA

  35. coco, I originally sized down on the Saturday pants, following experiences/advice posted on at least two of the blogs on the blog roll. I was bummed that they were too tight when I received them, and I had to order again. So for me they fit TTS. If you haven't seen the white in person, you might want to know that the lighter colors are a bit see-through and show the wrinkles a bit more. HTH.

  36. I received a call from jcrew online asking if i want a online personal shopper..
They said that they can help me find hard to find items and can also give me sneak peeks of new arrivals
Did any one receive such calls?

  37. K Mel, I have a pair of the studded gladiator sandals. I have a slim foot and the strap that goes across the toes is tight. It just fits me and I can 'feel' the straps tightness.

The thong is not twisted narrow as most thongs so it is wider betweeen the toes. Also, they run on the narrow side.

As you can already guess, they're gorgeous on, prettier than the picture!! I purchased the Tan Rose with silver studs. Hth!

  38. I'm looking at bathing suits and wanted to know if anyone has experience with these 2 items:

"Seaside Underwire Seersucker French Top" http://www.jcrew.com/browse/single_product_detail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524441795340&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302024062&bmUID=1244516121443

    and "Solid Shirred Bandeau Tank"
    http://www.jcrew.com/browse/single_product_detail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524441795424&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302024062&bmUID=1244516637180

I think the tank looks really cute on the model but I am very small chested and am afraid a one piece will flatten me even more.

  39. IRL- thanks for the review! I have somewhat wide feet so I have a feeling that they wouldn't work.
