J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

  1. Oh Happy Day! I checked the website this morning to find “The Work Remix” featuring a way more polished edit of pieces in cashmere, leather, ponte, stretch wool, etc. A few new items but most are not, it’s more the styling and edit of pieces featured that conjures up the “before times” when J Crew offered an elevated look that wasnt smocked, oversized, acrylic, pajamas, or targeted at middle schoolers. I hope this promo is successful for them and we see more of this - reminds me that there are still things to love at J Crew.

    1. I agree. Although I'm a sale shopper, I like the look of the A-line skirt in champagne leather, item BG166.

    2. Thanks for sharing. I hadn’t noticed.

    3. I really like the idea of the cinched waist swear blazer, but I’ve noticed significant pilling and pulls in my J.Crew sweater blazer, so I’m slightly hesitant.

    4. I was looking at that blazer too but it’s poly and viscose, which doesn’t sound great.

  2. I might complain about JCrew offerings at times but my love affair with Everlane was hot and heavy and ended quickly and bitterly.
Just a slight exaggeration, but they are just missing the mark too much.
Sweaters are either way too cropped, like 18,” or tunic length. And boxy! I saw their new cotton sweater and almost ordered until I read the length.
They have some nice pants but dry clean only? Come on! I know the pleated trouser is having a moment and I love it but I’m not buying dry clean only pants for everyday. Yes, I can gently steam them but I’m really trying to avoid fabrics that I need to baby. At least my Everlane cashmere raglan mocknecks hand wash really well.
They too have started making sale items final sale, but the sizing is just too inconsistent for that to work. I ordered a pair of sneakers in a different color than ones I already have and the size was much smaller.
I will continue to check the site but my Everlane purchases have been almost non-existent.

    1. Hi Suz,

I’m sorry that you haven’t had the best of luck with Everlane! Do you have any thoughts on their outerwear or leather accessories?

    2. Yeah... I hear ya on everlane. I bought a bunch of stuff in the past and now I'm basically down to just buying from them if I need to replace plain tee shirts.

    3. Elizabeth, I have a few Everlane items I absolutely love but they are from previous seasons. The only outerwear I have is a trench which is lovely and two denim jackets I like a lot as well (and enjoy wearing). I have been tempted by some of the puffers, especially the longer ones, but haven’t had a need. I don’t have any of the leather pieces but have a mini backpack and a large backpack that while not the most attractive is super functional and has been durable. I also have some underwear and tshirts I like.
I have probably a dozen Everlane sweaters. A chunky wool turtleneck I loved so much I bought two backups and alternate colors. So I’ve appreciated them in the past and will continue to try. I just think they’re missing the mark for me this past fall and winter.

    4. I agree that everlane has missed the mark this year. Even worse is Madewell. Ill-fitting, cropped clothes.
Elizabeth I own several Everlane loafers, wallets and bags in 2015 to 2019. All have held up well. Especially the made in Italy ones.

    5. Kikigirl, I’ve just about stopped looking at Madewell clothes. Terrible blends, everything boxy and cropped. I do like their cotton bandanas though.

  3. I did some closet clean out today and the School Boy blazers and Hacking Jackets are so beautiful, particularly the camel School Boy and the green and blue Hacking jackets are really great.

    1. @Cate, same here. I’m so pleased with myself I didn’t give them away. Still wear them and they look like new.

    3. I had a few but had to get rid of them—they all got too tight in the shoulders. 😞 I loved the red linen schoolboy. I think I my daughter took it. At least it didn’t go too far.
I tried to replace it a few years ago with a new red jacket JCrew was offering but it was absolute garbage.

    4. Cate, you are lucky to have a collection of them, and Kate, agree they are slimming! I also have kept my Schoolboys and Hackings and even one Bella. They still look brand new and the lining and interior piping is so nice. I’ve tried most of the newer versions of J Crew jackets, but an oversized style makes me feel a little sloppy and just does not flatter my frame.

    5. I had a purple velvet Bella. Sadly it was destroyed in our house fire.
