The copywriter from Space has done it again. Item BD622 Cashmere Relaxed crew neck sweater in Neon Thistle Peach shown with a scarf. Unless I’ve recently become color blind it’s the scarf not the sweater. Now for the latest: Willa blazer in Black Watch tartan BD009, two new Liberty Prints Liberty May Nouveau, Liberty Poppy Amelie floral, PJ print in winter garden floral, a Villa coat in stadium cloth Decorative pink BA 538, some varieties of green in items, a new satin pleated yes pleated ballet slipper BD236, a cashmere track pant BD301 and zip jacket BD030. There are other items, however these stood out as I initially scrolled through. Will reserve my comments for later.
ReplyDeleteHi Lynn! I definitely ordered those Liberty prints. I couldn’t resist ;)
DeleteLynn, re Item BD622 they also spelled “thistle” wrong! Thisle????
Delete@Liz, Barbour has a long coat with a Liberty print interior too in case you’re interested.
Delete@Suz, yes. Somehow that was deleted in my post.
Deletethisle or thatl - so far, I am Not Entranced.
Delete@wellfedfred, Here’s something that might “Entrance” you, Van Cleef and Arpels Sous les Etoiles High Jewelry Collection. Stunning.
DeleteThis rollout is quite exciting with lots of beautiful colors and prints. Disappointed in the dress selection but definitely ordered the long pencil skirt to try (yay long enough for tall people!) and a couple of the Liberty print blouses. I also like the velvet blazer in both the peach and emerald. Ive been referencing a lot of vintage crew looks on Pinterest for inspiration and one look I love is a peach blazer with a blush blouse and bright yellow pumps and jeans.
ReplyDeleteFYI, the petite and tall versions of the long double serge wool pencil skirt are $30 cheaper than the regular length.
DeleteA few things I like but what I pulled the trigger on this brisk fall morning was university Terry sweats. At 50 percent plus the extra 20 percent they are a great price. I had been eyeing similar ones from Everlane which cost $68 each piece. I ordered the set for about $60. (Trying two sizes because it’s not final sale.)
ReplyDeleteI probably should have gotten white for walking at night but got black. 😬
I also like the velour but that fabric feels a bit cold. I have the set in gray from last year and do like the new baggier pants and some of the autumnal colors, but I’m not wearing them for dress up and the cotton Terry is more practical for chilly mornings and evenings.
I found a few things to potentially wishlist however I’m still disappointed in the release. Initially I thought there was a lot more color but upon further review a lot of the items are swimwear. IMO there are still too many inferior fabrics/materials and less than appealing styles (dropped shoulders, smocking, puff sleeves, short/boxy fit)
ReplyDelete@trixxie: That's pretty much how I felt. Seems there were so many puffers that were really Michelin Man looking. I was not excited about anything. The only thing I put in my bag was a pair of black corduroy high-rise pants.
DeleteIn a way this is good for me because I certainly do not need more. I just wonder if this designer will turn out to be good for J.Crew.
Agree with above. Not much a like too many puff sleeves and smocking. I like the liberty prints but the style isn’t for me. Also disappointed the flannel PJs aren’t 100 percent cotton.
DeleteI liked a lot of things in this rollout, but my color complaint is J. Crew doesn't do enough blues.
Delete@cate, the company always had beautiful brilliant blues that stood apart from other retailers. Disappointed. Blame it on the designers and their overall depressing choice of colors
DeleteAlthough the Liberty prints and a few brighter colors are encouraging, my first thought when I looked today was, "too puffy, too ruffly, too oversized." It's just not my year for clothes. Some years are like that, you know? Your body type and style are just out of synch with the season. I would like another lady day coat if the red is a true red. Oddly enough, the patent oxfords, which look pink on my monitor, caught my eye for spring with linen pants. I had a pair of J. Crew pink suede wing tips years ago and I loved them.

DeleteLynn, I still have three stadium cloth coats in beautiful shades of blue. One is a toggle coat in a heathehred turqoise, one (my favorite) is a cocoon coat in a heathered medium blue, and I forget the style name of the third but it's a royal blue coat with a belt that was featured in the catalog they shoot in Japan that one year. The Chateau Puffer comes in "Seacoast Blue", and I like the color, but don't care for the coat style.
DeleteCate, I have an old stadium cloth in the Vivid Fuschia from years ago and I loved that turquoise color and decided on the other one. Kicking myself ever since. How I miss the vibrant cheerful colors
DeleteLynn, the fuschia is gorgeous too. I don't think they've been selling that color lately, either.
DeleteDo I see...puffer PANTS?
ReplyDelete@silver_lining, and I’m still laughing 😂
DeleteMy chubby thighs have been waiting for this moment!
DeleteI’m always cold in the house and last fall I bought faux leather puffy joggers. They started falling apart right away so I returned to Nordstrom ASAP. I’m blaming it on Covid brain. Won’t make that mistake twice. 😆 (not that I had Covid, just the need to wear warm, comfy clothes).
DeleteMy dad had a puffy suit he wore in the garage in winter. Also good if you work in refrigerated storage. Even my ski pants are not that fluffy!
DeleteI am not impressed by the rollout. Colors still too muted for my liking -- too much "heathered" tones. I am still seeing a lot of oversized sweaters and smocked tops (ew no) and poufy sleeves. And I don't understand the continued use of felted wool for outerwear. It looks and feels like someone washed a regular coat with hot water and ruined it. I particularly dislike the jewelry in this rollout - the resin earrings straight up looks like oyster shells. Calling them "made in Italy" says and does nothing for me if they're ugmo.
ReplyDeleteAm not that excited about the Liberty prints, but I like the winter garden floral - that's a nice vibrant green - but don't particularly like any of the styles it's used on.
@eeps, exactly you must have read my mind. I do like the winter garden floral print for the PJ’s, I think it would have looked nice as a silk blouse. Again, I’m not impressed with what the designers have been doing and I do not want to dress like a little girl or a sloppy teenager.

DeleteAgreed. Slouchy looks, very poor fabrics, hate the colors. This likes more like Madewell. And the quality there is much better. What happened to the old J Crew? I still wear my old stuff. The new stuff lasts only 1-2 seasons. Sigh.
DeleteI'd totally wear that cashmere tracksuit, but $$$'s. And not for actual track workouts.
ReplyDeleteI think it could be cool. Not my colors so I’m not even going there.
Delete@pbanos loving the cashmere tracksuit. Added it to my wishlist and will patiently wait for it to go on sale;-)
DeleteSame for the long vest in recycled sherpa, instant love ! So chic, love how they styled it with the topcoat
Disappointed in the styles used for the Liberty fabric. Also not that excited about the Liberty prints offered. I wonder if J Crew can select from the Liberty archives or if they are restricted in what prints they can use. There are SO many beautiful fabric prints on the Liberty London website.
ReplyDeleteAgree, don’t care for most of the styles offered. Don’t like that the corduroy straight legs are a blend instead of mostly cotton. A lot of the new denim styles will take my eyes a while to get used to. Didn’t see any shoes/boots that appealed to me. No Jackies, no Tippi-type merino sweaters - boo!
Hoping the next rollout offers things I’d like to buy but honestly my closet is bursting with brand new clothes. Don’t need another thing!
Liberty probably has pricing tiers for their prints, and JC is allowed to pick from whatever tier they're willing to pay for.
DeleteThanks, eeps. I’ve wondered about that for a while. Visiting the Liberty London fabric room was a highlight of my trip a few years ago. If only I could sew!
Delete@shopalot same here re Liberty styles. Hoping they do a regular shirt (no ruffles, no puff sleeves etc) in the Poppy print, such a beautiful print!
Delete@fleur de lys Agree! Hoping they’ll bring back the slim perfect shirt. The classic fit is too long/roomy for me.

DeleteI actually *love* that poppy floral print. I just don't like puff sleeves. It's a shame. I truly do not know what shape puff sleeves flatter.
DeleteLast week I ordered
ReplyDeleteRibbed cotton-cashmere relaxed turtleneck sweater
Item BB427
I mis-gauged how relaxed the fit really is. I read the length and know that’s a good length for a little front tuck, but the back is even longer than expected. I have a long torso and it covers my butt long. So, that’s long. The neck is fitted, the fabric is not itchy which is huge for me, I like the sleeve length and the overall fit, but it’s just longer than I would wear. I don’t know that sizing down would help enough.
Would it fit under the new tie waist wool trouser? Bum covering is warm when you don't have puffy pants.
ReplyDeleteIt’s really too long. I could tuck the front slightly but those pants aren’t the best for a big tuck. 😉
DeleteMeh, but I will look closer later. I like the winter garden floral but like others none of the items in the print appeal to me. Why so much swim when it’s almost November and not even close to resort yet? My impression is most of the rollout is still overwhelmingly warm mid tones which are awful w my coloring, and still lots of loungey jogger styles when I’m tired of Covid clothes.
ReplyDeleteJ Crew is historically so good at Fall/Holiday it’s always my favorite Crew season. Maybe next rollout will have more for me.
Wonder if some of it was delayed and was planned for earlier in the year?

ReplyDeleteRec'd one of the two pairs of pacific sherpa lined clogs today. I love these! I get shearling lined ugg slippers every year, but they wear out quickly b/c the shearling is on the footbed. With these, the sherpa is only lining the inside of the top of the shoe, which is actually perfect and kind of brilliant. Your foot stays warm, but doesn't get sweaty hot, and the footbed doesn't wear down! They are nicely shaped (not sexy, obviously, but not birkenstock clunky), not heavy, and stay on your feet. I definitely recommend them.
ReplyDeleteI do think staying with your true size is the safest bet for this on final sale. I am always a straight 8 at MW, and sometimes 8 is too loose in the heel. I am usually an 8.5 at JC, sometimes an 8, and I got an 8 with these and they are perfect.
Received quite a few items last night and was pleasantly surprised. Will review the ones that are still in stock.
ReplyDeleteDrapey gathered button-up shirt, item BB274. Sized down to an XXS and was worried the sleeves would be too short because I have long arms, but it fits great! Bought the icy orchid for $5.76 and happy to have a color to wear with my gray camerons to work, and gray jeans for regular life. Not a color I had in my wardrobe.
Pull-on silk skirt, Item BA909. $41.99. Based on reviews online and here (sorry I forget who now), I ordered my regular xs. Fit is great. I may have preferred the elastic waist more snug, but I can tighten it slightly with the silk tie. Also, had I been able to try an XXS I may have seen it was too tight. Loose is better than too tight. Happy with this. The price is great and I think I will be able to wear it during different times of the year, both casually with a tank and flat sandals, tee and sneakers, as well as more dressed up. Excited to find something to wear with my tall snake boots from a few seasons ago.
Ah, I didn’t see that you posted about the icy orchid drapey shirt. I’m going to steam mine tonight.
DeleteI'm so glad you are pleased with yours!
