What is going on?! Chateau parkas, Lodge coats and Lady coats for $25.99 less 50%? (On the US website, of course). I don't need any coats and most of them are not warm enough for a Toronto winter, but I did order 3 (ugh, it looks so ugly and excessive to be typing that number). By the time I checked this morning, only small sizes were left but I took a gamble on a Lodge coat, a Chateau parka and a cocoon coat.
ReplyDeleteSo much for my resolution to avoid buying things just because they were a great deal.
I don't know whether to hope that these coats (which I do not need) will ship or cancel. (I have to think that there is a high probability the order will get cancelled.)
I broke my no buy for the sale, too. I picked up another pair of foundry pants and some straight leg cords. All the jeans were tempting, but I already have more than enough jeans that I like and that fit well. Same with coats. I live in a semi tropical climate and I already have too many coats.

DeleteI did the same! Got two coats and a cashmere sweater, all $13 each. How could I resist? I’ve been wanting to have a chateau parka for a while but didn’t NEED another coat. And a green cocoon coat? Yes, please. Will need to get a coat rotation happening in the fall so I incorporate with all my others. Yikes!

DeleteSo bizarre, the costs are not showing up at the sale price anymore.
DeleteSuz and others, I checked after I saw your post and the $425-down-to-$35 ludlow blazers that I got for my boys are totally gone, even though there was a full range of sizes when I bought this am. I wonder if some of the huge markdowns were mistakes after all?
DeleteNow the number is 4 coats that i do not need.
ReplyDeleteI do feel like a bit of a hypocrite, but to be fair the purchases I made were items I was looking at previously and all safe purchases that can replace some worn items in my closet.
ReplyDeleteI stopped myself from buying any bottoms which is usually my issue. Peyton velvet pants, in particular. I’m not sure if I should reward myself for a job well done or be embarrassed that I have to justify why I didn’t spend $13 on pants ive been looking at for ages. I even tried them on in store. I’m hesitating because I know they’re just ok and I’d probably just wear them around the house.
Go me.
Luckily most coats were only available in 0. I totally would get a coat for $13 if there were any in my size.
DeleteThere were some black size 2 cocoons coats (well, there appeared to be at least one) when I last looked.
DeleteYes I saw those, I just know that’s not a great cut for me. I did have a chateau parka in tall 2 in my cart but it said it sold out. I also don’t know if that’s a great one for me but if it does ship I know I can make use of it.
DeleteThere was a chateau puffer in brilliant sunset but I already have the Red (the sunset is a bit more orangey) so I passed on that one!
I hesitated on that chateau puffer all winter... according to the reviewers the sunset was not red at all and was "traffic cone orange". It looks cherry red in the photos :\
DeleteYeah, I almost thought this was a mistake until I saw how many items were so drastically marked down. I got a few pants for myself (demi-boot crops and kickout crops) and also trying a couple of foundry pants -- for $13 I could not resist. Also ordered the high rise full length flare jeans in white for $49 -- they got great reviews -- and wool ludlow unstructured suit jackets for my boys. $35 down from $425.
DeleteEven if any of these don't work, they are a worthwhile purchase just for donation. Honestly, I think JC would do better financially donating these items themselves and taking a writeoff and some good press...
What do retailers in general do with past season leftovers? Sell at T.J.Maxx, Marshalls, and the like? Or set fire to them?
DeleteSince the cocoon, lodge and chateau coats were $12.99 each after the promo (I cannot believe I just typed that), that made the $12.99 shirts and skirts I had put into the cart seem expensive (!), so I was able to exercise some (minor) willpower and remove those items from the cart. So that was good. However, I was not able to resist the $12.99 Sophie sweater blazer in glen plaid. I had considered it at $50 and was so proud of myself for not buying it because I wasn't sure about the pattern (and I already have lots of sweater blazers). If I decided against it at $50, I probably should should not have bought it at $12.99. (All prices US on the US website, of course).
ReplyDeleteFor Canadian JCAs who missed the "how to" details of buying on the US J Crew website and using a cross-border shipping service, I posted the details Mon March 15 on this website.

I got that sweater blazer too, I had also considered it previously and saw it in store, the colors are not as crisp as I’d prefer but I have been living in my two alex mill sweater blazers this winter and find they’re so great for layering over a sweater when I’m chilly at home. Better than wearing a robe! 😆 Since I have my charcoal and ivory cashmere mocknecks the plaid will work well for me.
DeleteI should add I also like them over a tank or tshirt in warmer weather. So although I hesitated as well I do think it was a worthwhile purchase!
DeleteI also got the sweater blazer and am really looking forward to it. Funny, that my outfit for today (which was already planned and waiting) is a black merino tneck, black pants, and the dover glen plaid blazer. I really like having that extra layer to wear at the office.
DeleteAlso bought stadium parka in gray, plaid velvet trimmed v neck tunic (3.49), yellow statement necklace (6.99), cocoon coats in forest green, eggplant and neon tangelo(? that was a mistake, meant to order lavender), relaxed fit black cashmere tneck in xs and small, cashmere crewneck sweater in burgundy, jacquard pants in size 2 (have the 0 and love them), the white tuxedo blouse, and the quilted regent blazer in english saddle. I placed four orders in rapid succession. I figured what fits fits, and what doesn't can easily go on Poshmark for those prices.
My jcrew card locked out after 6 small orders!
ReplyDeleteThat happened to me last year, I had an ongoing argument with both Comenity and J Crew CS. Some of the ladies may recall my furor. There is apparently a limit to 6 orders per 24 hour period. I never got them to lift it for me.
DeleteI don't think it's unique to the J Crew credit card. I've had my Mastercard lock me out with far fewer than 6 orders to the same vendor. They wouldn't get into the details with me for security reasons, was told that it's a fraud prevention measure. So they will let a multi-thousand single charge go through, but they will sometimes block a card after multiple $20 orders. I tried to explain to the security department how online purchasing works during massive sales and how you have to buy quickly in multiple orders or things sell out, but they were not moved :-)
DeleteI should feel glad that I'm not a tiny size and therefore don't feel obligated to buy all those $12.99 coats! This feels like a fire sale???
ReplyDeleteI had the Sophie blazer in my cart but it sold out as I checked out, so just missed it. Ah well, I didn't need in the first place.
I picked up the NB Comp 100s, patch mini in green, and the poppy dress. Not a huge order because I'm not a lucky size but also grateful because I don't need any of it (except the sneakers)! Happy shopping everyone! I'm watching the sale section deplete by 100+ items every time I refresh so I know y'all grabbing deals!
*correction: not poppy dress, the tie-neck tiered dress in scattered peony print.
Deleteyup. fire sale????
ReplyDeleteDoes anybody have any sizing recommendations for the Sophie sweater blazer? I’m thinking about ordering my smaller size but wonder whether the sleeves are short or it may shrink if hand washed. TIA!
ReplyDeleteI think it depends in part on the look/vibe you are going for. I could wear an XXS or XS, but I prefer a slightly oversized (relaxed) look. I see photos on line of people wearing it a little more fitted to the body or a little more relaxed. The sleeves are definitely on the shorter side - I'm 5 ft tall and I have no problems wearing the regular size and I'd say that the sleeve on the XS is slightly above my wrist bone. Sorry but can't speak foro shrinkage - I have a number of these and I use my steamer. The tags of the ones I own (last one bought Fall 18) says dry clean only so I suspect it would be a bit risky to wash.
DeleteI bought the Sophie blazer this winter in camel and I sized down one. The sleeves are def shorter on me (I’m 5’7”). The body and shoulders worked well in a size down because I wanted it to fit more slim instead of relaxed. Agree with Toronto Modern that two sizes likely work but depend on the look you’d like. I washed it on delicate with the Laundress wool wash just to be safe and hung to dry. I didn’t notice any shrinking.
DeleteThank you so much Toronto and jan, this was really helpful!
DeleteWell they got me today. I didn’t check soon enough to get any of the super cheap cashmere or coats that some of you have mentioned but I ended up getting four pieces for just below $45. I grabbed the Embellished long-sleeve shift dress Style AT599 Color: BLACK for $12.99 and the Sleeveless ruffle-collar top in black Stewart tartan
ReplyDeleteStyle AU262 Color: RED GREEN MULTI for $3.49.
I took a chance on the large in the Wide-rib crewneck sweater Style J0959 in color natural for $12.99 hoping for an oversized slouchy fit. My big ticket item was the Full bloom flower earrings Style AW928 Color: COOL PINK for $15.49. Thanks for letting us all know about the deals my friends!
All right JCAs. I need advice. I got the Denim Kamm pants today. Really the fit is nice, a little looser than I expected especially on the waist. They might need to be hemmed an inch or so for sandals. They are cool and comfortable but I’m not sure if I would be better off with the black or not at all. I posted pics on IG @wearthislikethis
ReplyDeleteThey look very good on you. You have the right body for this fit. Black is always more versatile but the denim looks very stylish.
DeleteGoing to look now ... you look amazing in everything, and I agree high waist is best for you. With your wide shoulders and narrow hips, the wide leg look is a winner because the width balances your shoulders. I scrolled back to find your pics with the Everlane wide crops. So, I prefer the legs on the Kamms, but like the fly, hips and waist better on the Everlane. The length is a little long for a summer crop, it would be great with booties though. I've tried cuffing wider legs too, it never works and won't stay put if you do get it even. That's one for inexpensive jeans - you can afford to have more than one length. One for summer, one for flats, one for heels. I always buy blue denim and then I wear my black, white and ivory more often.
DeleteThank you both for responding! I was not sure at first (when I posted) but I tried with a basic white tee and flat sandals/sneakers and really like them. My mom, sister, husband and three daughters all liked them too. My mom said she’s never seen me wear such flattering jeans and loved the high rise. Even after I told her the price she said she felt they were worth it. (And she is a Macy’s/kohl’s shopper for the most part).
DeleteSince the denim is such a limited color I am leaning towards keeping them and adding the black at some point.
PBanos, thank you for explaining that, and doing such research. It’s been difficult for me to put that into words, about the shape/proportions. This is the right rise for me because they sit exactly where they are supposed to, and in real life I actually like it better than the Everlane which is a few inches lower in the rise.
I wouldn’t have kept them cuffed, I was just checking on the length but after trying with different shoes I like it.
I know the look (especially the button fly) is not for everyone, it’s a little quirky, but I am into it.
Then enjoy them and know you have a great fit. Keep alert for a black pair, since you are always searching for the perfect black pants. If you do that you could shorten the blue and keep the black long.
DeleteThe black (all colors) are actually shorter than the denim, so I’d keep the denim as is.
DeleteI flip back and forth between thinking "How did I miss the discounted cashmere!" and "Maybe it's a good thing I missed the discounted cashmere". (Although the sweaters would take up a lot less space than the coats I ordered.)
ReplyDeletei'm just glad you guys are all buying up everything i want in my size! :D
ReplyDeleteAgreed! I did buy one single item - the double serge wool pocket skirt in fuschia. I'm wearing the bright citron one today with the silk 'goat' print shirt.
DeleteOne of my $12.99 coats (Petite Chateau parka) just shipped... Unbelievable.
ReplyDeleteWow!
DeleteCame here to post my Sophie blazer shipped, from Lynchburg.
DeleteSame. They must want to clear it out quickly
Deleteamazing! I missed the coats this morning. I sat this one out, probably just as well but excited to read about everyone else's deals!
DeleteI can’t believe the one morning I didn’t look at the site I missed the deals lol. Excited for everyone who found some great deals! I can’t believe the prices. Wish Canada would get some kind of promo.
DeleteAnne, I was up at 6:30 and the coats were only available in 00/0 XXS by then so who knows if there was much in other sizes.
DeleteThe only reason I checked was because as I woke up Cheritheberry texted me and said “Crew 50 off sale, there are coats for $12.99.” 😆
And I was up all not but have intentionally (and successfully) not checking my phone at night! I decided to not snooze through my 6:15 meditation alarm, the first thing I did was check Crew, et voila! I figured $12.99 coats were worth potentially waking up Suz Has. No, I did not meditate lol but I was raring to go by 7 am!
DeleteGrabbed a cashmere striped wrap (coincidentally wore my solid color today) and a cashmere dress for a grand total of $20. I was shocked to see the coats marked down so much, but maybe this is what they should do to clear out of season merchandise? I’m not sure the $25 was necessary, but it was effective.
ReplyDeleteI missed the cashmere wrap by sleeping later I guess. That's really the only thing other than the double serge pocket skirt I purchased that I would have ordered.
Delete@pbanos. Got lucky with my husbands 5am alarm this morning. The early bird gets the cashmere wrap.

DeleteA review! I got the 9" demi-boot crop jean in charcoal (item J6329) during the buy-more-save-more promo, and I love it. I am only 5'2" so almost all of my jeans are cropped -- skinnies for winter, with boots, and often demi-boot with flats in warmer weather. I happen to love button flies, esp. now that they make them so they are so easy to button and unbutton, and I have several pairs in denim, white, and black, but none in grey. These are thicker denim with less stretch, but still TTS. Perhaps a little less comfortable than thinner denim with more stretch, but I wore them all day today and didn't have to pull them up once. Love.
